Burn error message 4261

Hello, I cannot burn in iTunes. After the third burn, it says "Unknown Error Occurred 4261".
I have looked this up in the forum and tried several of the fixes that were listed and it is still not working. I used to be able to burn, now can't.
Any suggestions??? Thanks

The last failed audio CD burn had error code 4261(0x000010a5). It happened on drive D: HL-DT-ST DVD+-RW GSA-H21N on CDR media at speed 16X.

Had trouble posting entire message first time. Here goes again.
I got an Error 4261 message on my computer some months ago while attempting to backup my iTunes music ---about Dec. 2006. Hopefully, the problem is now solved. This was a difficult and time consuming issue to resolve. I shall provide some details of this resolution (worked for me) as I know some others are having the same problem. I hope to post this message to others with 4261 errors.
I have a Dimension E510 computer bought in 2006. I am using Windows XP. My CD ROM burner is as follows: HL-DT-ST DVD +-RW GWA4164B. I wonder if you have the same type CD ROM.
At first, several thoughts came to mind. Google? Never listen to music again. Invest in a sledge hammer? I decided to try and fix the problem and would work on this for the next eight months. Recently, I decided that this problem had to go away. I tried various things to correct the problem often with technical assistance as the following indicate:
Changed copy speed//Did a restore on my computer (no help)// reversed restore
Updated iTunes files//Did virus scans
Contacted a company techie—Discovered my warranty was still good. Cdrom driver was updated. We got the iTunes program to copy a disk. Problem solved?? Time passes.
The problem reoccurs. I contacted a techie again. He was able to get another program to copy on the cdrom I was using to copy iTunes music. I was told that I should contact an iTunes rep. $$. (One can save files (ex. photos) to a new file created on the desk top and copy them to a cdrom---a test method used.)
I read suggestions about updating my BIOS and chipset on the iTunes message board. Not being a techie I wasn’t so sure about this. Time passes.
I didn’t buy music.
I read messages saying that I should backup my iTunes music.
Called techie again. Updated cdrom driver. We were able to copy data using the same cdrom used for the iTunes copy. (Again this was not a fix. It was indicative of an intermittent cdrom failure occurring over time, and one manifesting itself in iTunes.) I asked him to try to copy another. Amazingly, this copy failed. Something was wrong. Now we’re getting somewhere. Techie eliminated select startup files to try to determine source of a software error, if one. This did not fix the problem.
Techie deleted a couple registry files. (I don’t like deleting registry files because they serve a valuable purpose, but I’ not a techie. Later I would have to do a file repair on iTunes and a photo program. iTunes has a repair feature which was on my desktop—a holdover from a previous attempt to fix things with an iTunes update. I ran this without harming my music files, and this repaired the program.)
Techie said I may have a problem with my current brands of CD-R disks. I bought and tried other brands---four all total. This did not work.
I happened to attempt to copy some pictures as I was interested in having some developed. To my surprise, my computer stopped the copy citing an error with the copy process. The problem now manifested itself with another software program. Heretofore, I could successfully copy pictures using the same cdrom but not iTunes music.
I called the techie again. I told him what I had done and new error in copying other files to the cdrom. We attempted to use other programs to copy music and picture files on the cdrom. (My thinking is, if they had worked, then the cdrom was OK, and the problem was a software problem and likely involving iTunes.) We could not get any software programs to copy files to the cdrom in question. This was a clear indication that the cdrom was defective. We likely used up ten CD-R disks in these latest attempts.
Looking back, there was a subtle indication of a problem with the cdrom. There was a problem with one of the songs I had copied to a new disk (No. 24 of 24 songs on a disk). The song was copied with errors. This shouldn’t happen.
The company replaced cdrom free of charge the next morning. Wow!
I tried the new cdrom and began burning iTunes music right away. No 4261 error message. I also copied pictures to the same cdrom without any error messages. I also successfully used other brands of CD-R disks.
Replacing the cdrom on my computer fixed the 4261 error on my computer. I hope something here will be of help to some of you who have the same problem.
As I mentioned earlier I had problems with iTunes and a photo program after cdrom installation but fixed them. I also experienced problems with Windows Media Player and Roxio/Sonic. They didn’t want to recognize the new drive (E:). Restore made things worst so I undid this. I spoke to a tech again about these issues as I wasn’t certain of the scope/nature of problem. We updated both programs with updates from company support pages. This seems to have fixed the problem. Point made here was the need to keep files updated with the latest and greatest. Having had Windows ME in the past, I was reluctant to change my files too often. Now I have no choice but to do this. Many thanks to Techie.
The thought in my mind now is whether performing updates and specifically on Windows Media Player would have fixed the error to begin with. I don’t know, but I did run an update on my iTunes, and there are no updates for my photo program . Looking back I would have tried the updates first before I replaced the cdrom.
Kindest regards. 08/13/07

  • Error message 4261 when trying to burn discs

Arghh, this is driving me mad. Since I updated to Itunes 11, I have been unable to burn playlists to disc. I'm a teacher and need to do this a lot for my work. I've wasted about 20 blank CDs as they start burning, then after a few tracks I get the message "Cancelling disc burn" and the disc is ejected with the error message 4261. I've tried changing the burn speed, I've unchecked the box about including CD text. Why is it doing this and more importantly, how can I stop it?
    Can anyone help?

Please can anyone help me with this?

  • Burn error message 261

I too am getting burn error message when I try to burn my playlists to CD since I downloaded iTunes 5.0. I am burning a MP3 CD and there are only 640 MB to be burned to a 700MB CD. I have gone through all of the iTunes suggested solutions. I have contacted Dell (my OEM) and the manufacturer of my CD-R/RW drive (Samsung). I upgraded the latest firmware for my computer and CD Drive. I still get the same message...burn failed for unknown reason...error message 261. It works in Windows Media. What gives? Is there a fix? Seemingly, quite a few other customers are having the same problem. HELP!Apple is there a fix on the way?

    Hello Armando,
I'm not too sure if I could help you since you're running a Windows machine but if you want some reliable answers, could you re-post your question in the iTunes for Windows forum? I'm sure the people on that forum would help you better. Sorry about that.

  • HT203164 cant burn cd error message 4261

Need help with error mesage 4261 please

Just like tapperkatz, I am having the same issue.
I uninstalled itunes, downloaded the latest version and reinstalled it. No difference.Still the same dreadful 4310 code!!!
Read some instructions here and made a change in registry. That didn't help either. I use several other CD burning software. There is some sort of conflict among them.
I am using ASUS laptop with Windows 8 and 8 GB Ram. Nero startsmart essentials software bundle that came with external samsung cd writable is able to burn audio cd's. But it is somehow clunky and I prefer itunes. The laptop came with built-in cd/dvd burner. Other programs to burn dvd's are working fine. So, the issue is the itunes software.
Any idea would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

When I tried to email to the iTunes support they told me they didn't handle this type of problem, and I'd have to call their technical help line and pay whatever fee they charge for calls. Please help! Or else I guess my husband wasted $400 on a video iPod that's worthless.

    Here's my diagnostics:

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

  • DVD burn error message

I get this error message when I try to burn a data DVD: "Burning the disk failed because communication to the disk drive failed. (error code 0 x 80020022)
I am attempting to use the original drive system (Pioneer DVD-RW DVR 104) and it plays CD's and DVD's without a problem. Thoughts? Jim

just had this problem with a 17" MacPro purchased in Jan 09. Toast Titanium 9 had no problems burning the CD. tried it again in Finder but backed the burn speed down from 24x to 8x - no problem.
I can only assume it is cheap media causing the problem - we have no problems with Maxell CDs at full burn speed (24x). The CDs causing the problems are Verbatims (rated at 1-52x) that have printable surfaces.
    hope this helps

  • G5 DVD burner error message? Help please?

I get this error message when I try burning a 1gb quicktime movie to dvd on my pre installed standard burner. Thanks in advance
the link below is a screenshot of the error
    http://www.darkstargraphics.com/dvd_message.gif
Im at a loss and ready to by another
below is the dvd burner profile
    PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-106D:
    Firmware Revision: A606
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 2000 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW
    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
    Media: No

The error "internal target failure" appears on PCs using this drive as well, so it appears that it's not a Toast specific error.
However, in my browsing, no one seemed to be able to tell if it was a true hardware failure of the drive, or if it was caused by poor quality media.
I'd try other brands of media and a lens cleaner before flashing the firmware. And, if you do decide to flash the firmware, the current, official firmware for that drive is here. The link in MLCinma's post contains hacked (region free) firmware and is outdated in any event.
Let us know what brand of media you're using and what speed you're burning at.
The DVR-106D has had lots of reports of failures, so it could very well be the drive. At least a replacement DVR-111D will only cost you about $40 - $50.

  • DVDSP Build and Burn Error message

I am new to DVD Studio Pro and came across a problem during the build and burn process.
When I try to build/format or build, I get an error message that says:
Language codes for "English" and "English-2" must differ. Build cancelled.
I am not sure what to do. Does any one know what this means?
    Thanks

You made another language by mistake. Go to to the bottom of the outline and delete "English-2" and re-build.

  • CD-R burn error message

I get an error message that says iTunes can't burn the playlist because of Medium write error on CD-R disc of various brands, But it works with printable CD-R just fine. I am using iTunes version 10.6.3 (25). Worked fine prior to this week!

Hit Command + Option + esc on your keyboard and force quit iPhoto. I'm sure it just got stuck talking to your optical drive.
    Hope it helped

  • CD Burn error message

MacBook wii not burn CD and opens Error Message.  I went to system profile, then to cd disk, then to system preferences to set window to open iTunes for cd disk drive.  Fixed. :)

It means that your burner could not write to the CD.
You can try another brand CD.
You can select a slower burn speed in the "Burn Disk" dialog box. Some people have trouble using "maximum possible" and a slower speed helps.
You can try a CD/DVD lens cleaner disk and see it that helps.

  • Burning error message please help.

I have a disc image I created and I burned it successfully the first time I tried it. Now everytime I try to burn the same disc image I am getting the below error message. I don't understand how it could have burned the first time, but now I have 12 unusable DVD's. I am burning at 1x speed. Any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Doug

    Strange...
Can you play the disk image with your Mac with Apple's DVD Player application (you have to double-click on the image to mount it to play it)?
Was the disk image created in iDVD?
You also might try 2x or 4x burning.
What kind media DVD-R or DVD+R) and brand are you using?

  • Dvd burner error message "device failed to calibrate laser power"

When I try to burn a dvd, I get an error message:
The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.
and then it spits out the disk. This has never happened before.
    Advice?

If Wjosten's suggestion does not work, clean the dvds - http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=50448 or use another dvd brand - Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden are highly recommended by Mac users.

  • Backup iTunes library problem using LaCie DVD Burner error message - help!

    Hi!
I just purchased a LaCie D2 DVD +-RW DVD Burner for my Mac Mini running OS 10.4.8 and iTunes 7.0.2. I've installed the latest LaCie drivers and iTunes recognizes the burner so no problem there. When I try to back up my purchased playlist iTunes checks the media everythings fine but when it tries to start the burn process I get this error message: "The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred (-8785)." It then ejects the DVD-R. The Burner works fine with Toast, so the issue is with iTunes. I've tried using both Apple DVD-R's and Sony brand just in case that was it. Any ideas? Please?
    Thank you,
    Sam

i recently got an error message while burning a dvd with lacie. i had been using the same cd's etc. found the solution on roxio boards (which don't allow just anybody to join obviously).
the problem is iSight. it can cause problems with the lacie while hooked up to the other firewire connection. unplugged the camera and viola!!! lacie works again.
    hope this helps you too!!!
