Burn / Formatting Finished

There seem to be a few unanswered treads on this topic so I hope someone has the answer.
I'm using an older version of DVDSP. It was working fine so had no reason to upgrade but slowly I'm losing functionality. My problem now is when I try to burn I get a message to say Formatting Finished. Now I have burned this DVD before - it's a showreel with a mix of 4:3 and 16x9 footage on it and with eight menus. The disc has always been configured as 4:3 and I have set the 16x9 footage to be letterboxed.
i've deleted all the video and audio TS folders. Under Advanced Burn the drop down won't let me select anything but Hard Drive wheras I have always used an external drive. I'm confused.

I did every diagnostic thing I could think of and finally, I stripped the DVD burner out of the system and replaced it with another drive and it works. I no longer get the formatting finished message and I am able to select the new drive under Advanced Burn etc
It may be that this is not the complete answer but it does seem to be an answer - check your DVD drive is functional.

Hi, please help me When I render my project in IDVD, video and audio runs properly, but when I burn it in professional quality and burning is finished there was no audio on the last two chapters, one audio is attached to the clip and the other one is from itunes, pls help

    Hi
    My first two thoughts
    • Shared to Media Browser - BUT as Large or HD - try Medium !
    • audio from iTunes - use to go silent
    - in iTunes
    - Create a new PlayList with needed audio
    - BURN this as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) - NOT .mp3
    - use the files on this CD in Your Movie project - I ALWAYS DO - and only use .aiff ever - never .mp3'
    My notes on this:
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • HELP! URGENT! burn/formatting problems ASAP

when i burn/build/format. in the log it says "warning: the file 'name.layout' found in the video_ts or HVDVD_ts folder will not be included in the final disc...and "warning: the file vob_data.lay' found in the video_ts or HVDVD_ts folder will not be included in the final disc...WHAT IS ALL THIS? ..cuz im having issues playin it in the dvd play..does that have nything to do with it? URGENT..its for a client

No, unless something is very wrong with your system, those files - stuff that DVDSP needs to manage & organize your materials and programming - are not the cause of your issues. Those files have no place on a DVD.
Most compatibility issues - as far as playback is concerned - are caused by media (the disc(s) are bad or just don't play nice with the DVD's player laser), +bit rate+ (your audio and video information go past the limit of what a DVD player can handle) or +authoring issues+ (you goofed when it came to what should happen when your DVD loads, for instance).
The first thing to share is what settings you used to encode your audio and video. And where you encoded - in DVDSP? Or with Compressor?

  • How do I burn a finished movie to a DVD?

I just finished creating a movie in iMovie.  I need to burn it to a DVD but there is no option in the share menu.  I tried sending it t a file on the desktop and currently it hasn't showed up.  I tried a few times.  Not sure if it just takes a long time and as I tried it 3 times, it's just taking longer.

    For that you need iDVD.
Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Dvd burning format

I am wanted to know how do you burn a dvd and have it be able to play on a dell windows pc what format should you save it in when your in final cut and how should you save it if you what to email it on a pc mac is not hooked on net

Compresion for DVD-video is always mpeg2.
No matter on what machine it is beiing played (dvd-player, mac, pc).
The format in your NLE is not that important, aslong as it will be accepted by your DVD-authoring app.
This app. will convert it into mpeg2.

  • DVD Burn Never Finishes

I am trying to burn a 1 hr 43 minute Quicktime file to a DVD using Compressor 4.0.3 being run on a new iMac with 20 GB of RAM (the QT file is 147 GB in size, but I am assuming this is the point of Compressor and that it will be compressed to fit on the 4.7 GB DVD). Compressor has run for 24 hours on this job and has been stuck at 03:39 remaining for the past 18 hours. It has output an m2v and ac3 file but not burned the DVD.
What am I doing wrong with Compressor?
Can I somehow marry up the m2v and ac3 files onto a working DVD?
Thanks for any and all help!
    Mike

Just learned something. Went to a machine that's running Lion…looked at Library and all hidden files and could not find the app – in Application Support or anywhere. Will have to do more research.
Despite your results your workflow is actually the most reliable way to output to DVD. Some comments and suggestions:
It's hard to say why Compressor didn't complete the job action. At the very least I'd repair permissions in Disk Utilities, trash Compressor preferences. (Use this tool)
Is there a particular reason why you chose Pro Res 4444? Typically, it's used when there is a need to preserve an alpha channel and its file sizes are far greater than 422 HQ (which in turn are much greater than 422).
If you were using a very high-end camera, there might be an advantage in using PR 422 HQ, but for most HD footage plain vanilla 422 is perfectly fine.
Because you're going to be compressing very large files to SD, it is quite common to introduce artifacts into the image during the process.  It's a good idea to test the quality of your compressed movie by testing short sections of your movie.
You set in and out points in the Preview window that define the length of your test section. Then open the Inspector and adjust the bit rate by moving the sliders in the Encoder pane. As you do so, you'll see a message at the bottom which will state how long a video can be encoded at that bit rate (be conservative in your settings because it's an imprecise estimate).
Open Frame Controls and set Resize Filter to Best. Then Submit and evaluate quality. Adjust till you get something that's satisfactory, then do the encode for the entire sequence. Consider outputting to a Disk Image if you think you may want multiple copies.
    Good luck.

  • X61s Cannot burn/format DVD

I have tried with multiple blanks DVD-R and I cannot burn any DVD. It runs and then just says general failure. Any way I can troubleshoot this. I do not have another drive to test.
    It says DVD MultiRecorder CD-RW
Is this in fact a DVD Burner.
Thanks for any help and/or suggestions.

It is not a DVD burner. It is a CD-RW and could read DVD disc. So you could burn DVD-ROM by this device.

  • Trouble when formating finished movie into quicktime!!!NEED HELP!!!

Okay this is urgent! I am done with my video project but when I click "Share" and choose "Quicktime" and then select "Full Quality" and it compresses pretty quickly my movie is only about 3 min. long. When I go to play the Quicktime video of my project about halfway through the video the video playing halts like a pause, but I still hear the audio playing. What is wrong???!!!???? I need help fast!!!

Does your iMovie play ok within iMovie? How long is your movie before you try to export it to QuickTime?
Try closing iMovie and deleting its preference file: YourUserName=>Library->Preferences->com.apple.imovieplist.
Trash this plist file. Reopen iMovie. Try to 'share' it as quicktime movie again. Depending on how long it is, this may take a while.
If this does not help, post back.

  • DVD Studio Pro- DVD won't burn, will only format

    Hello,
I'm trying to burn a DVD with DVD Studio Pro, eveyrthing works great in simulator.  I exported from FCP to Compressor and used the Best Settings 90 min for compression (my video is 23 min).  When I click burn it goes through the steps but after it goes to formating it says formatting complete and ejects the DVD, the log says this....  I specifially noticed this line "Note: The file ‘.DS_Store’ found in the ‘build’ folder is not a DVD-Video file and will not be included in the final disc or DLT.
Note: The file ‘THE_NEW_OMNIPOD_SYSTEM_DVD.layout’ found in the ‘HVDVD_TS’ folder is not a DVD-Video file and will not be included in the final disc or DLT.
Note: The file ‘VOB_DATA.LAY’ found in the ‘HVDVD_TS’ folder is not a DVD-Video file and will not be included in the final disc or DLT.
    Start formatting"
Any idea why that is happening?  I've tried just using build and putting the HVDVD_TS folder onto my desktop and then putting it from my desktop onto a DVD and buring that, but that didnt work either.

  • Problems with burned playlists audio format

I was doing fine, burning and burning without any issues. Not sure if something got updated to cause this. One day I'm playing an audio CD in my car that I burned from a playlist in i-tunes and it sounds like a "skip". then another. I pull the clean, brand new disc out and clean it off, go back it's still there. Same deal on other cd players also. Since that day I've burned about 15 discs from a couple of playlists and only 1 has been without these errors. There are usually about 10-12 per CD and they sound like a quick skip or dropout and they repeat if I go back in time on the song, they are there each time. The song data in i-tunes and on the ipod is perfect. I've tried a couple of brands of CD-R's. Same issue. I've tried with and without sound check. With and without other programs running. I've tried to update the burner driver but couldn't find an update. I've run a disc with many of these problems in "EAC" a bootleg burning freeware to see if they show up as errors, they do not. Here is what I'm running Itunes 6.0.4.2 driver 2.0.4.3 DLL 2.0.3.2
    Confused. Thanks for any help.
Dell Inspiron 5100 (laptop)   Windows XP Pro
      Windows XP Pro

Oh, and a couple more observations. The "burn disc" yellow/black wheel doesn't spin smoothly like I thought it did before, and the burn hangs up at the "burning disc - finishing" stage, I have to manually quit it. The disc plays, but with these little dropouts.
    Thanks for any help!

    PLEASE HELP!!!
I have created a project, a DVD with menus and subtitles in 2 languages, yet when I burn the DVD (both using build/format option and build format options separately)the resulting DVD has no main menu, actually it has no menus at all! it goes straight into the DVD film where I can change subtitles language only from the remote buttons. The project compiles successfully but once formatting it gives me two hilghlighted errors in the log (which I gather are the layouts/menus)HERE IS THE LOG (highlighted part is error message):

I have burned another project with menus succesfully..

    Hi
FIRST check that your Play Movie button in your menu has NOT an Auto Action selected that make it plays automatically your movie when the Menu loads. You'll find that setting in the Advanced tab of Inspector. If not . . .
You can try a workaround, no matter that if you have your Menu as First Play it must work. Try yhis:
    - Create a simple black JPG file i.e. in Photoshop
    - Create a Slideshow
    - Add a the JPG to the slideshow, set duration 2 secs
    - Set the Slideshow as First Play
    - Set Slideshow End Jump to your Main Menu
    Build and burn again.

  • Burn Problem

I'm not a beginner with DVDSP, but have recently the installed program on my other G4 MDD and find that while there's no difficulty setting up a project, when I try to burn the it to a dvd the burn icon doesn't respond. All I get is a dialog saying Formatting successful/Formatting finished.
DVDSP3 works fine on my other machine, and no, it's not the drive on this one either, as I can burn anything in iDVD.
I've tried Advanced burn, Build, Format, Build and Format...no luck, same message. Also, in trying to use Compressor, I get an error message - Unable to connect to background process. Well, I don't care about Compressor so much as I'd like to use DVDSP - I paid several hundred for it, and it's not working.
    Help very much appreciated.
PS On the Compressor issue, I went nuts trying to figure out how to get Qmaster working again - the widget that lines up jobs for the app. I downloaded help shareware, reinstalled Compressor, tried fixes using the Terminal - -nada, zip...help.
    thanks,
    K.

I posted about this a while back.
duh, I finally figured it out.
I used Toast 6, in the end; to back up my docs and elements of the Lib folder.
Prior to and during burning Toast came up with a list of items it couldn't find. If it can't find, it can't burn, -39 error = Crash.
So I noted what those items were and what folders they are in, in my user Lib. I tossed them from Toast list. voila!
FWIW, those items are mostly from the user/lib/Prefs folder and a couple from user/lib/App support.
In my case I wanted to preserve Safari history and no other Safari items, iKeys folders (which I'm demo'ing and have certain lists that one would want), and QuickSilver (all except lists) and Microsoft (for Office).
So I burned today without problems. Hopefully the files are good if I ever have to.
I do this back up once a month at least, more often depending on what work has come in.

  • Burn won't even start

    hi -
i'm trying to burn my project, but whenever i click the "burn" button, it just says "formatting finished" and won't do anything else. i don't even have a disc in the drive!
this is the first project i've tried to burn on my new macbook pro - which probably has something to do with it.
any suggestions are greatly appreciated! thanks!

What version of DVD Studio Pro are you using? I don't recall seeing a "burn" button in either 3 or 4. You probably know this but I'll mention it anyway: the "format" button alone won't do too much. Have you built the project before using the format button? (Alternatively you can use the build/format button) - the output should be your DVD drive. Otherwise it should prompt you for where to save the disc image and will create the image to your drive, which can then be burned using Disk Utility or other specialized burning software.
