Burn from one disk to another

hi,
i ordered 2 superdrives so i could make copies of my burned DVD's. on the website, when you configure the computer, it says "make copies of your burned CD's and DVD's with simplicity and ease!"
well, i could not figure out how to do this, so i called apple support and after being on hold forever, they tell me that with the software that comes with my computer, it is not possible to make copies. and, they do not recommend any particular software either.
i am now on hold with customer service (now over 20 mins) waiting to see what they have to say about this.
what is the deal? has anyone been able to burn from one DVD to another? by this, i mean from one finished burned DVD to a blank DVD.
thanks!

I'm using Toast 6 so I'm not sure how this works on other versions. First click on COPY from the icons available at the top of the Toast window. It will then give you : read from: here you should choose the drive you want to copy from from the drop down menu.
Then at the bottom of the Toast window, next to the burn buttton, you click on the triangle and choose the drive you want to burn with. It's always safer when copying to burn at a slower speed, as even with buffer underrun you don't want the burn drive to try to pull data faster than the copy-from drive can supply it.
This procedure will not work for commercial DVD video, as they are copy protected.

  • Copy Time Machine files from one disk to another: error 50

I have a 500GB disk used with TM, and bought a 1TB disk. I tried to copy the TM folder from the 500GB disk to the 1TB so that the larger disk could take over as my main backup.
However, when I copied the TM folder, it gave this error message:
"Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (error code -50)"
Tried twice, with same error message.
Any suggestions as to how I can copy the TM folder from one disk to the other, without getting this error message?

Try this program called superduper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html the trial version should allow you to do what you want. I used this to back my time machine back to my mac and then back to the disk again so that I could delete and resize it. If it doesn't work at first try turning off time machine while copying and deselecting it as the TM drive.

  • Copy a user account from one disk to another

I replaced the hard drive in my G5 imac, and for one reason or another, using restore failed to create a bootable disk. Instead, I reinstalled Leopard. I would like to copy the old user account from the old hard drive so I can seamlessly continue using my computer. I created a secondary account on the new drive with the same name as the old one, and then copied the contents, but that didn't work very well.
Can you advise how to restore the account from an old disk for use on a new one?

Well, the desktop picture was generic, opening firefox gave me the error along the lines of "cannot open firefox, firefox is already open." Trying to download a new firefox tells me that there's no room on the disk. That's about where I stopped. Pretty much everything isn't working right.

  • Rebuild ASM Disk - Copying multiple datafiles from one disk to another

    Hi,
I have an environment of four 11GR2 Oracle databases on a Linux server. Each database has its own ASM disk.
    DB1 -> ASM_DISK1
    DB2 -> ASM_DISK2
    DB3 -> ASM_DISK3
    DB4 -> ASM_DISK4
I need to rebuild one of the ASM disks (ASM_DISK1), but first I need to copy all of the datafiles to another disk (ASM_DISK2). I tried backing up the database using RMAN, but it was taking too long (nearly two days when I cancelled it). So now I am going to copy the files using ASMCMD CP command.
Basically my task is as follows:
    1. Shutdown database.
    2. Copy all data from ASM_DISK1 to ASM_DISK2.
    3. Drop ASM_DISK1.
    4. Re-create ASM_DISK1.
    5. Copy all data back to ASM_DISK1.
    6. Start database.
    Database size is 700GB.
I am using the below script to copy the files.
    Copy Script
    ================
    asmcmd ls +ASM_DISK1/DB1/DATAFILE >> asm_list.txt
    for FILENAME in `cat asm_list.txt`
    do
    asmcmd >> asm_LOG.log <<EOF
    cp ASM_DISK1/DB1/DATAFILE/$FILENAME ASM_DISK2/DB1_BACKUP/DATAFILE/$FILENAME.dbf
    EOF
    done
    ================
I will then rename each file in the database like so:
alter database rename file '+ASM_DISK1/DB1/DATAFILE/filename' to '+ASM_DISK1/DB1/DATAFILE/filename.dbf'
    My questions are as follows.
Is this approach a valid solution?
Will renaming the files during copy corrupt the files?
When I copy the files back to the original disk after rebuild, then rename them, will the database be able to start?

And how do you propose to update the controlfile to point to the new location?
unless your datafiles are offline and/or the database is down, you will corrupt them and have an unusable database when you finish.
how were you doing this with RMAN? Depending on the size of your database(700G), it very well could take some time. I have restored databases at a rate of >300G/hr from scratch. You will need to shutdown at some point to relocate the controlfiles and system and redo logfiles.
Just curious, what is the problem with diskgroup ASM_DISK1 that you want to rebuild it?

  • How can I move my DRM-protected movies from one disk to another on the same computer without running afoul of the big movie houses?

I need to off-load my digital copies to another disk I just bought, located on the same computer, so I can have more room for other things; my collection is getting too big, I guess.  I'm afraid if I just move them and re-integrate them back into the iTunes library, it will mess up the DRM status and lock me out entirely.  I'm hoping it won't treat this exercise as one of my allocated copies and increment the counter counting device transfers.  Any ideas as to how to safely do this (without hacking, etc.)?
    Thanks.

is this second library in a different account on the computer?

  • How do I transfer projects from one disk to another disk?

I just installed Windows 7 on a second drive in my computer (XP on the original disk).  My previous projects were all created on the XP disk on PE 2.  I want to move all that work into the Windows 7 environment, and run there from now on with Premiere Elements 7.
I can't find anything in the Adobe knowledgebase that explains how to do this.  Can anyone please give me some pointers?
    Thanks in advance,
    Ron

    Ron,
You do not need to move the Project and media. You can Open your Project just fine from the other HDD.
Now, if you are going to replace, say your C:\ with what is now you D:\, and will re-assign it to C:\, you will just Copy over all of your Project and media to the new drive.
If you will be placing the Projects and media onto another HDD (drive letter), when you first Open the Project, PrE will ask you "where is the media?" Just point it to the new location, and it will re-link to the media in that folder. You will need to repeat for each separate folder. Once you have located all media, I would do a Save_As, maybe incrementing the Project's name, so you still have the original Project intact.
Please let us know exactly how you will be altering your system, and then someone can step you through the specifics.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Moving backup data from one disk to another in TIME MACHINE...

    Happy Holidays to all...
Just bought a TC and love it; my main mac took about 48 hours to back up, but now is on line with it; I have a macbook I have been backing up to an external HD for a while now and wonder how I can move the backup file from this HD to the TC. Is is possible? If I simply respecify the TC to be the TM disk, what happens to the current HD? Don't want to make a move until I know the consequences...
    Thanks.
    Ger

Thank you so much; bummer though; I have about a years worth of TM on my attached drive.
Yes, I did it wirelessly; I thought that was the point of TIME CAPSULE. It has been a pain updating every hour though; it takes a bit of time each time; I found a great utility, though, that allows you to set the backup frequency for as long as every 12 hours; This makes it more practical to have the wireless backup. very cool:

  • Using Migration assistant to transfer data from one disk to another

I will install a new SSD disk but I would like to make a clean install with Mountain Lion but after that migrate data from the old HDD, that it is now installed in the place of the optical drive, to the new. I would like to know how to do that correctly and also if there is any advice to do this better.

I agree the best solution is to install clean then install programs then copy data over for a true new clean install.
But I still don't understand why you said setup assistant isn't a option either. It certainly is a option and in my opinion a much better option than migration assistant. Which is what the original poster was asking about.
As for cloning I have read it is best when going from standard drive to ssd it is best to do a new clean install instead of cloning. So I wouldn't consider cloning a option in this case. But that is my opinion from the reading I have done. I was thinking about installing a ssd in my mac notebook.
    Thanks.

  • Move itunes music and playlists  from one disk to another on same mac pro

I was running Maverick 10.9.1 on my early 08 Mac Pro. I was having significant problems with the system locking up and having to shut it down manually. After discussing the problem with an Apple Support Rep, I executed a clean installed of Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on a new HDD.  I need to move my itunes library from the old Maverick HD to the new Snow Leopard HD. My Time Machine is corrupted for the old drive.  How can I move my music and playlists from itunes on the old drive Maverick to the new Snow Leopard drive?  I will also need to move my address book contacts.  Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks. This solved the iTunes problem.  Any suggestion as to how I cam move or copy my address book to the new HD?  I can't find the location of the address book files on the old HD.

Use java.io.File.renameTo(...) (look it up in the API documentation).
Renaming a file doesn't work if you're trying to move files from one disk to another disk. In that case, you have to copy the file and delete the original.

  • Problem in copying files form one disk to another in Mavericks

I just upgraded to Mac X Mavericks and after suffering with an external disk that had been operating for years with no problem, I find thatthe process of copying files from one disk into another is extremely slow.
Is the normal procedure that the copy is first prepared and then executed?. This is taking hours to copy a 100Gz file. Please help folks.

I don't think that is possible, to platform specific. You'll need to make the directories accessible without password protection, or use another way of copying the files, such as FTP. There are multiple FTP packages available for java, such as:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/net/
(of course that would require setting up some sort of FTP server)

When I put a burned cd from one Mac into another Mac, song titles do not show up! I have to enter them manually! My CD player reads the titles that i on the cd; how can I get my Mac to do so?

The problem is that I burned these CD's myself from music that I added from my personal collection to iTunes. The INFO is ON the CD's (it appears perfectly when I put the CD in my Numark mixer...so I know the info is on the CD), but for some reason, my MAC PRO will NOT read the info on the burned CD when I place the CD into the MAC PRO. The CD was burned on a MAC that I no longer own. But there HAS to be a way to transfer songs from a burned CD with the INFO that is on the CD burned with iTunes.

  • How to move Tablespace from One disk group to another disk group in RAC

    Hi All,
I have 11gR2 RAC env on Linux.
As ofnow I have problem with disk group. I have 3 disk group which is almost full - 98%. I have added one NEW disk group and want to move some of the Tablespace(TBS) from OLD disk group to NEW diskgroup and make some free space in OLD disk group.
Can any one suggest me how to move TBS from one disk group to another disk grup without shutting down the instance.
    DB is in Noarchive mode.

    Hi Helios,
Thanks for doc id but I am looking for noarchive mode solution. becaues I got ORA-

Hence I am trying something and findout below steps but not sure how useful it is:
    1- put tablespace offine
2- Copy the file to new diskgroup using Either RMAN or DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER.
3- Rename the file to point to new location.
    4- Recover the file.
    5- Bring the file online.
I had move 240M TBS from OLE to NEW.
These steps run successfully so I think this is valid for noarchive mode.Hence want to confirm..so inform me please.
Thanks :)I have doubt in my mind:
    1. You database is in noarchivelog mode
    2. You're taking tablespace offline
    3. Suppose you're moving a file of size 10GB(or any larger filesize) to another disk group
    4. Now after moving the file, you're trying to bring the tablespace online............NOW
tablespace will need recovery. if the required data is inside the SGA then it is ok. But if the data has been flushed, then?
if step 2 and 3 has taken significant time, then most probably you'll not be able to bring that tablespace online.

  • Best way to move redo log from one disk group to another in ASM?

    Hi All,
Our db is 10.2.0.3 RAC db. And database servers are window 2003 server.
We need to move more than 50 redo logs (some are regular and some are standby) which are not redundant from one disk group to another. Say we need to move from disk group 1 to 2. Here are the options we are thinking about but not sure which one is the best from easiness and safety prospective.
Thank you very much for your help in advance.
    Shirley
    Option 1:
    1)     shutdown immediate
    2)     copy log files from disk group 1 to disk group2 using RMAN (need to research on this)
    3)     startup mount
    4)     alter database rename file ….
    5)     Open database open
    6)     delete the redo files from disk group 1 in ASM (how?)
    Option 2:
    1)     create a set of redo log groups in disk group 2
    2)     drop the redo log groups in disk group 1 when they are inactive and have been archived
    3)     delete the redo files associated with those dropped groups from disk group 1 (how?) (According to Oracle menu: when you drop the redo log group the operating system files are not deleted and you need to manually delete those files)
    Option 3:
    1)     create a set of redo members in disk group 2 for each redo log group in disk group 1
    2)     drop the redo log memebers in disk group 1
    3)     delete the redo files from disk group 1 associated with the dropped members

Absolutely not, they are not even remotely similar concepts.
OMF: Oracle Managed Files. It is an RDMBS feature, no matter what your storage technology is, Oracle will take care of file naming and location, you only have to define the size of a file, and in the case of a tablespace on an OMF DB Configuration you only need to issue a command similar to this:
CREATE TABLESPACE <TSName>; So the OMF environment creates an autoextensible datafile at the predefined location with 100M by default as its initial size.
On ASM it should only be required to specify '+DGroupName' as the datafile or redo log file argument so it can be fully managed by ASM.
