Burn iMovie '8 project to dvd or other medium to give as gift

I created a video project in iMovie '8 that is 15 minutes long. I have video/photos/music in the project. As I made it as a gift I'm trying to figure out how to either burn to a dvd or other medium so that I can give a copy to my parents. I downloaded iDvd but got the message stating that my computer does not have a supported Super Drive. Is there any way I can burn this to a cd or something else so my folks can watch it on their tv? I've been trying to figure this out for a week and am a bit lost. I tried to upload it to Youtube but as the video is over 10 minutes it won't upload. I have it exported to iTunes but it won't burn even if I create a playlist with the movie on it. If anyone has advice as to what to do I would really appreciate the help. Thanks.

Thank you for your help! I found that Toast costs around $99 and I don't have a DVD drive. I guess buying the drive is the best alternative. It's weird that this computer comes with the program to make the dvd and I can download idvd for free but can't burn it!

  • Burning iMovie 09 projects using iDVD

I have been searching without success to find out how several small iMovie 09 projects can be burned to the same DVD so that they run continuously. I don't want menu buttons.  They will be shown at a trade show and need to move smoothly from one project to the next.
Each project is only about 25MB in size so I am assuming that many will go onto one DVD.
    Mary Lou

Matthew, unfortunately if I export the movie to Documents and then import it into a new project, it loses the music.
There has to be some way to assemble small movies into one project so that they can be burned to one DVD.
I must be doing something wrong when I create a new iDVD project and then try to drag and drop movies into it. (They have already been through Share/Media Browser.)  Perhaps I am not dragging them into the correct area.
I don't want each iMovie project to be in a menu item or someone would need to run the DVD every 3-4 minutes when one project ends and another one needs to begin.
I'm still looking for the solution.
    Thanks for trying.

  • Imovie slideshow project to DVD

Do I need iDVD to convert my iMovie slideshow project to a dvd and play in a dvd player?

    Hi
First of all - You need a DVD authoring program as iDVD. (No way around this - but there are free alt. as Burn™)
In iMovie'13 (vers 10.0.x) - Select SideShow (Video) project.
Share to file and as 460p - NOTHING ELSE !
    Close iMovie and open iDVD
    Import the Shared file
    Select Encoding quality
In iDVF pref / Advanced - Burn Speed max 4 rather x2)
    Save as a DiskImage
Test this to see all is OK
    Burn the DVD
I only use - Verbatim DVD-R as they works greatly to me - NEVER Memorex, NoName or other cheap media = PROBLEMS
Good Luck - Yours Bengt W

I am trying to find an app or software to burn iMovie 11 slideshow to a dvd.  I have a MacBook Pro with Mavericks.  There are a lot of DVD Creator apps at the App store. Looking for a recommendation of what to use and tips. Thank you.

I've been using "Burn" for years and it has been the only DVD burning software I have ever used for the mac. I have never needed to look at other apps. Unless you want something that has more bells and whistles such as Roxio's "Toast" : http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/pro/overview.html
There are thousands of quality free apps out there for the mac that are not part of the App Store. All you have to do is read reviews online, do a little search, the Apple forums are full of recommendations from experienced users that have been here for years...

  • Want to burn iMovie to external LaCie DVD+RW

there must be a better way! no super drive but yes toast 6 titanium----Will toast compress or even handle a 12 gig iMovie and create a DVD? And why won't toast except ALL the files in iMovie. AND, is there a way to burn iDVD to my LaCie external? If so how do I save the iDVD file and export it to toast? iDVD seems to want to freez up when finished with the making of the DVD and there's no 'save as' in the menu and so on....
Is there a way to compress iMovie? (quick time?)
    thanks

there's no 'save as' in the menu and so on....
There is "Save as Disk Image" in the iDVD file menu. This will make a disk image that you can burn with Toast 6.
iDVD seems to want to freez up when finished with the making of the DVD
Is this during audio encoding? If so be patient and wait wait wait wait for iDVD to finish.

  • "Ken Burns" imovie 06 project opened in FCE 4

Opening an iMovie 06 project in FCE 4 works great, except I'm confused about still photos to which I had added the Ken Burns affect to in iMovie. In FCE they still move as expected when just viewing the timeline, but when I open up Motion tab for an image in the Viewer, there is no Scaling or Centering listed. I thought maybe FCE converts photos to movies to maintain the effect, but they are still just JPGs.
How are these images moving, if there is nothing changed in the Motion tab!?
I'm hoping to make some quick Ken Burns effect slideshow in iMovie and then do more editing in FCE...
    Thanks!

I have no chance to test it now on my Mac, but it seems strange to me that FCE can convert Ken Burn effects from an iMovie project into FCE Motion keyframes. FCE more likely imports an already rendered motion clip from iMovie. Probably it also imports the original JPGs, but the clip you are viewing in the timeline is more likely a clip where the original Ken Burn Effect cannot be modified.
In any case you can do a simple test: create a test iMovie project with a single image, apply the KB effect to that image, import that project into a new test FCE project: it's then easy to check what is and what is not imported.

  • Can I burn new iMovie 2013 projects to dvd?

    Hello,
Is there a way to burn projects from the new iMovie 2013 (version 10.0) to DVD? You can share to "file", but it doesn't say what kind of file it's going to be.
    Thanks

Not without a copy of iDVD.

  • Shaky still images in burned iMovie/iDVD project

Hello all, I've stopped by the discussion forums in the past for quick fixes to problems when they come up, this is my first post though that doesn't seem to address anything I've found on here...
I am working on a project that takes scanned pictures from regular print photos into iMovie 6 and then burned into iDVD 6. I have done this similar style of work several times and never run into this problem. The project looks fine in both iMovie and iDVD preview, and burns fine to disc. As soon as it is popped into a DVD player, some of the still images flash and shake around, it appears to happen on the same images every time.
The original project used about 100 photos, around 12 minutes of movie time. It uses only still pictures and there are cross dissolve transitions between each one. I have tried dragging and dropping the iMovie project into iDVD instead of using 'share'. I also saved as a disk image and burned slowly (4x) not only on my SuperDrive but on an external LaCie drive. I've even started a brand new project file, imported the pictures again from iPhoto and everything... still no luck. I've done about 5 trials now with these different settings, no luck. I use Verbatim DVD-r disks as well...
I've even tried scanning a few images and replacing them, thinking the file might be corrupted, but this isn't fixing the problem. Is there some setting that I'm missing or any other suggestions you have?
I'm trying to save a trip down to see a genius, but if I can't get any help I'll have no choice but to make the 3 hour drive to the nearest apple store. Hopefully someone has some suggestions! Thanks!

    Hi
    A. I don't use the *Share/Export to iDVD* function in iMovie. iMovie rendering can harm
    the photos in a movie.
I do: close iMovie, Open iDVD and import the movie project here (icon with a Star on it)
or just drop the icon into iDVD.
    B. Some photos with thin lines most often starts to flicker when viewed on a TV.
I do: In a photo editing program eg PhotoShop or Elements: Apply *Gausian blurr*.
Just slightly. Resulting in non-flickering photos.
    C. One can rather easily find out if this will occure by:
    • Connect Your miniDV (tape) Camera via FireWire.
    • Analog out of Camera to a TV-set
    • Set in iMovie. Playback via Camera
Now You see on the TV what the final Quality will be like.
    • Flicker (add Gausian Blurr to those photos)
    • Color, brightness & contrast
    • Over all playback rythm and sound

  • How do I burn imovie slideshow to a DVD??

I created a slide show in imovie. 77 slides, transitions and music. This is my first creation in imovie. How do I get it onto a DVD which will play on my TV?
I went to the burn project, says that won't play, looks like I have to send it to idvd, but I don't want to drop it into one of their backgrounds.
I have looked in all my books, but they don't seem to make sense to me. Can someone give me instructions geared toward a 3rd grader??? I think that is my level.
    Thanks!
    Colleen

    Colleen,
To create a DVD playable on a TV set you will have to use iDVD. If you don't want to see any menus, export your slideshow as DV video from iMovie.
Then use that DV format movie in this procedure: http://homepage.mac.com/profpixel/AutostartDVD/autostart.htm that I put together a couple of months ago as a result of requests in the iDVD forum.

  • Apps or programs for burning imovie 10 file to dvd?

I understand that the iMovie no longer has the ability to share to DVD and/or burn to iDVD.  If my macbook didn't come with iDVD what are my options?  What apps or programs are currently being recommended by the apple folks with regards to this issue?

Why is there no iDVD on my new Mac? How do I get it and how do I install it?
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3673
To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • How do you burn off final project onto dvd disk?

how do you burn off a final project onto a dvd disk....do you need idvd or dvd studio pro?

can i just export my project into toast and then burn it off?
Yes. Toast is capable of doing the compressing/encoding, multiplexing and burning, although in tests that I've done, Toast's encoding quality isn't nearly as good as iDVD, Compressor or DVD-SP.
do i need to compress it?
Toast will do that for you.
or do anything else to it?
Use good quality media. Stay away from poor quality brands like Memorex.

  • I am Burning my edited project on DVD but after specific time Audio got mute

    Dear Friends,
I am burning DVD using share option in FCP X  total duration of my film is  2 hours 25 min. But after 1 Hour 25 min Audio got mute, I have twice try to burn same film on DVD but it got mute on same duration. I have also try my second film to burn on DVD which Duration is 2 Hours 7 min but it got mute after 25 min. I dont know what to do Please help, I want my final output on DVD.
I also have DVD studio Pro please help me if there is any option.
I am Using Mac Pro Prosessor 3.2 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon and Memory 6 GB 1066 MHz DDR3

I would first export to dvd, but chosing the hard drive as a destination. This stores a disk image on your hard drive with the content of your dvd.
This way you don't waste a dvd if something goes wrong; plus you can check the resulting disk image with DVD Player just like an actual disc, and you can burn as many copies as you like using Disk Utility.
Another troubleshooting idea: expor a master file and test that. Does it play correctly?
Do you have any audio containing DRM (like an old iTunes purchase, maybe) in your project?

  • HELP! When I burn my first project to DVD, it creates a loop

I've burned to a disc, and while it plays fine, with all 17 chapters in place, after it ends, for some reason, it goes back and starts playing at the 16th chapter again!
I want it to just end or to return to the main menu.
    thanks a lot.
    J.

    Thanks for your help.
It looks like I had the end jump set right anyway.
I'm going to start a new thread because I think the problem has to do with chapter sequence.

  • How can I save previews for old projects, while burning the project to DVD?

I'll admit, I haven't read the user manual cover to cover (or screen to screen for the electronic version), and haven't spent hours combing the discussions here, but I have searched for all the relevant keywords I can think of and can't find a concise answer to this question.
I get the basic idea of Vaults (I think), but haven't found much info about long term storage of projects. I'm fulltime freelance, but not super busy, and I can easily generate 100,000 images each year. I don't have the cash to be keeping all of these images in Aperture projects on external hard drives for eternity, and I'd be surprised if anyone else does. Good thing I'm not a medium format digital shooter producing 50GB each day huh?
I remember seeing a clip of a photographer 2 or 3 years ago discussing the differences between storing digital and film images. He was making the point that throwing away files you don't think you'll need again can be a mistake, citing a shot he had of Clinton and Lewinsky together, before Clinton and Lewinsky were news. "If I'd been shooting digital, that image wouldn't exist today". It was a great pic, and when that whoel scandal erupted, it made him alot of money.
So at present I'm storing every image I take in finished projects on DVD trusting that in the future I'll be looking for a shot of someone I may have shot 5, 10, 15 years ago.
I caught part of a discussion that talked about keeping the preview files for all the images (and subsequent versions) for each project. I'd love to be able to keep lo-res previews/copies of everything I've shot to date, and have them immediately accessible on my hard drive, while my full size projects are safely stored on DVD, taking up space on a bookshelf rather than on my hard drive. Loading 10 DVD's worth of projects to see what's inside them is a headache I'd like to avoid if possible, in favour of instantly checking out lo-res previews to look a shot up.
Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?

    hello, kiwi
quote: "Is there an easy way to burn a completed project to DVD, but keep only the (lo res, lo size) previews on my hard drive?"
    yes.
    maybe,...
    1. you might think of making DVD backups first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
    or,
    2. bring in the photographs to hard drive first prior to importing the photos into Aperture. "Store Files: In their current location" once in Aperture make low rez Previews, and export finished Project.
the low rez Previews will stay in Aperture but the high quality Versions will be exported onto DVDs and gone from the hard drive (if you delete the originals).
another way would be to export small about 50-70 pixel wide high quality jpegs to a folder on your Desktop and import & keep these in Aperture Library as a reference. make metadata to show where the original Project DVDs are stored and DVD filing system used.

  • How to export completed project to DVD?

I've recently returned to the Mac world based on jobs and have compiled a birthday video for my father in law.  We are supposed to give him this video as a gift tomorrow night but I did the recent update to my iMovie and now am having trouble using the program.
Can anyone help me figure out how to burn my completed project to DVD?  Under my Share command, the options listed are Theater, Email, iTunes, YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, CNN iReport and File.  Any suggestions?  I tried saving it under the "File" option and then importing it to iDVD but it looks like the file saves as an mp4, which doesn't want to import to iDVD.
Would love any help that can be provided!

    BUT
As I see it - there are two KIND's of DVDs
_ Data-DVD - to store files - Can not be played in any Standard DVD-player - and this is done on desktop/finder
_ Video-DVD - for movies to be played on standard DVD-Players - and to structure and en-code this one NEED a DVD-authoring program as iDVD, DVD Studio Pro, Roxio Toast™, Burn etc.
So What kind of DVD do You need ?
And if iMovie'13 (ver. 10.0.x) has NOT changed this. The Share to DVD will result in a Data-DVD (I do not have last version of iMovie to test - hench why I make this remark) but this goes for all iMovie till iMovie'11 (ver. 9.0.x).
