Burn iMovie to a DVD

Very simple task or so I thought...I've made a beautiful iMovie that is 37 minutes long and I'd like to burn it on a DVD that can be viewable on any DVD player. I followed some guidelines to export the movie in NTSC format only to be told that the movie (file) was too large to burn on a DVD? I have iMovie 3, please help! I'm sure it's not as difficult as it seems

To burn a DVD with iDVD from the latest version of iMovie, you have to export the movie using the Export button and select 480p as the size. Open iDVD and start a new project, then drag that exported movie file into the iDVD menu window, avoiding any drop zones you see.

  • Newbie Question how to burn imovie to a dvd

    Hi
    I would try:
    • Share -> down to second line Media-publisher (?)
    • I would select Large
    Then close iMovie
Open iDVD and see if I can localize the movie under Media.

  • How to burn iMovie '11 to DVD

    having trouble doing this
what do I export it as?
can i have imovie '11 and imovie '09 on computer
    at the same time?
I have tried almost every export method to Toast, Burn, miDVD
    with no luck.
can I export and burn a DVD from imovie '11?
    Deb
    thx

Well, I don't think you can have iMovie 11 and iMovie 9 at the same time. iDVD should gonna help, but iDVD seems to be excluded from Lion. I guess you can only use other DVD burning program to make it. Maybe this tutorial can help you out: http://www.iorgsoft.com/dvd-maker/convert-imovie-to-dvd-on-mac.html. To burn iMovie to DVD, you need to first export iMovie project to videos. When an iMovie project is completed, select it and click "Share" at the top of the window in the Menu bar and choose "Export Movie...". And then you can use DVD burning software to help you. Good luck.

  • Burning iMovie 08 to DVD

I imported a video from a DV video camera to imovie 08 and then saved it to the largest file size. I then used iDVD to burn it onto a DVD. The resulting video, shown on a 27 inch standard TV had rather poor video quality. I previously had used iMovie 06 to burn a video to a DVD and the quality was much better. Does anyone know what went wrong or how to fix this?

ancrman read my new topic Imovie 08 not the same. at least it burned for you, but of course quality is a major problem. I think they need to start over with this thing.

  • Can't burn imovie project to DVD

I am using my sony video camcorder to import to imovie. That was a success and I was able to export the video to iDVD, but it will not let me burn to a DVD. It says that the file is too large to record on a single layer disc and i need to insert a double layer disc. How is it not able to burn when a DVD can record 120 minutes, and mine is 1 hour and 55 minutes? I tried to save as disk image so I could burn it on toast, but it wont let me do that either.

First off, in the preference setting, you have to change from the default setting of Best Performance (60 minutes max) to Best Quality (120 minutes max) to allow the full two hour time span for an iDVD project.
Second, that 120 minutes includes everything, iDVD menus, music, motion, slideshows, etc. not just the movie itself. So with a movie that is 115 minutes long, you only have 5 minutes for menu and iDVD slide shows and stuff like that. Drop in a few menus each with a 2-minute song and you easily blow past the 120 minute mark.

  • Burn iMovie project to DVD

Previously I have been using iLife 11 and particularly liked the iDvd option as I could burn to a DVD to share with brides and grooms.
Is there a way in iMovie which is now on my MacBook Pro, to burn to DVD rather than just have a nice movie to play from my laptop?
    Feeling stupid.
    Hoping someone can help.

See Karsten's post here for several options.

  • How to burn imovie project on dvd

Have just switched from PC to Mac - what's the Windows DVD Maker equivalent in Mac environment please ? I have an iMovie project that I'd like to burn onto a disc. Cheers, H.

If you are still within your 15 day return period.  Call Apple they will sent out iDVD at no charge.  (There are no realistic substitutes.)
Nicely explain that you may return the computer without iDVD. That usually does the trick.  You MUST speak to a senior advisor to get a free copy. The first tier people cannot do it.

If that doesn't work you can purchase iLife 11  (includes iDVD) on disk.
IDVD is a wonderful piece of software and well worth the low cost of $40.

Apple tell me iDVD is not supported anymore
IDVD is very popular in the Apple community. The latest Macintoshes and Mac OSs are tested for compatibility with iDVD.

  • Burning iMovie to a DVD

    Hi,
I'm having problems exporting my iMovie to DVD. I'm unsure why it will only let me export to Media Browser in mobile or tiny format. Won't that mean that the quality is too poor to show on a television (I've created a photo slideshow with music in iMovie. thinking this might have been unwise!)?
I see on the apple website that with iMovie 08 I should be able to export directly to iDVD (through share), but that option isn't available to me.
Clearly I'm new to this, so any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Burning imovie projects to dvd as files

If I use the disc utility to burn a movie project or .dv file ( 6.5 gigs ) to a dvd (dual layer) as a file not a viewable dvd, just as storage, will I loose any quality of the video, I am positive that I would not just want to be sure.

Data transferred to a DVD as one or more files is copied exactly; nothing is lost from the files themselves.

  • Software to burn iMovie to DVD?

I want to burn imovie projects to DVD, please recommend burn software to download?

As Clinton has said, Toast is a good programme. If you want to just burn it to a disc - without any menus/theme, you can insert the DVD into your Mac, and then drag and drop the exported iMovie file onto the disk, and then click Burn.
I really do not understand why Apple has chosen to get rid of iDVD. DVDs are still around, and will be for a while yet. Not everything is going download only like their operating system, and not every computer etc is getting rid of it's DVD drive just yet except Apple's Mac mini, retina display MacBook Pro and MacBook Air. Stupid decision getting rid of such a great application.

  • Imovie HD to DVD

I read somewhere that movies in iMovie HD cannot be burned to a DVD. Is that true? I have iMovie HD 6 and a Matrix DVD-R4X disk.

If you have a Super-Drive or an external that is properly formatted, you can most certainly burn imovie to a DVD.

  • I just finished creating a movie in IMovie and now want to burn it to a DVD and make it loop.  Since I just purchased this IMac it no longer comes with IDVD.  My question is how to burn and loop a dvd without IDVD.  Thanks for any help.

I just finished creating a movie using IMovie and want to burn it to a DVD and loop it.  Since I just purchased this mac it looks like they no longer include IDVD.  Is there something out there to help me do this.  I am new to MAC and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.

I am trying to find an app or software to burn iMovie 11 slideshow to a dvd.  I have a MacBook Pro with Mavericks.  There are a lot of DVD Creator apps at the App store. Looking for a recommendation of what to use and tips. Thank you.

I've been using "Burn" for years and it has been the only DVD burning software I have ever used for the mac. I have never needed to look at other apps. Unless you want something that has more bells and whistles such as Roxio's "Toast" : http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/toast/pro/overview.html
There are thousands of quality free apps out there for the mac that are not part of the App Store. All you have to do is read reviews online, do a little search, the Apple forums are full of recommendations from experienced users that have been here for years...
