Burn long movie with IDVD

On IDVD I am trying to Burn a long movie. I get a message saying duration too long for disc. How do I burn this to two disc or Reduce the intro of IDVD. The movie is almost 4 hours long. I can put it on one disc that plays on my computer, but I want one to play in my DVD player

A single-layer DVD has a limit of 2 hours, a dual-layer DVD 4 hours.
Roxio Toast can burn your 4 hours to a single-layer DVD using its 'burn to fit' setting but you will see a quality loss.
Toast can also stretch a video over two DVDs.

Hi I hope i'm in the right place. I have a G5 - new in Sept. It has a Superdrive and I am wondering if I can burn my movie (over 5 Gig and just over 2 hours) to a memorex DVD+R DL disk I can't find a compatability list anywhere.
    Thanks

    Hi Leslie:
According to this Apple Article DVD+R DL disks are compatible-just doesn't mention Memorex by name.

  • IMovie wii no longer share with iDVD.  I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and now I can't get iDVD to work properly.  Any thoughts?

iMovie wii no longer share with iDVD.  I just upgraded to Yosemite 10.10.2 and now I can't get iDVD to work properly.  Any thoughts?  This is what comes up.....

iDVD does work with Yosemite although, as Kappy pointed out unsupported for 2 years, so try this basic troubleshooting fix:
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
    User/Home/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents of IDVD'S cache folder: User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you're running Mavericks or Yosemite go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
If iDVD crashes again post the first 50 lines of the crash report.  Don't post a screenshot but copy and paste the actual text.
To get a movie from iMovie to iDVD it should be exported out of iMovie as 480p and added manually to iDVD.

  • How can I reclaim memory/storage so I can burn a DVD with iDVD?

How can I reclaim memory/storage so I can burn a DVD with iDVD?

Move your iPhoto Library and/or your iTunes library to and external HD that is formatted OS X Extended (journaled) and run them from there. Be sure to try the libraries on the EHD before you delete them from the boot drive.
This should easily free up the 25 GB minimum needed for iDVD to create and burn video DVD efficiently.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • I cannot burn my movie onto IDVD.

I cannot burn my movie onto IDVD. Says multiplexing error. Tried rerendering it as suggested on error code.  Apple wants to charge me $29 to look into it and says the money is non refundable. Suggested I come here.  Can anyone help me?  Please...

I went to the TROUBLESHOOTING desk yesterday at our APPLE store.  I got 15 minutes free.  They told me that IDVD is no longer supported by APPLE and my Mac Mini is 5 years old, therefore, I'm out of luck.  They told me to download new software and I thought the technician said the software is called IM DVD, but of course, I get home and I can't find it.  Now what?

  • Burn movies with idvd

i have a external hard drive that have movies on it. I'm trying to burn a movie from my external hard drive thru my idvd to play on my home dvd player.

You can share the first movie from iMovie, but all the others will need to be exported from iMovie as movies and dragged into the iMovie project.

  • Problem to burn a movie in iDVD

After I have edited a movie in iMovie, I would burn it to a disc. As I have made, you can only burn an edited movie into iDVD.
But it is not. When you press the "burn" button it should be a progress box where it should be how long it takes to burn the disc. But there is no box, but it says I must insert the disk in the mac, though I have already done so.
What should I do? Could it be something with the movie format, which is originally from a video camera (avi.)
I've actually been able to burn music, pictures and movies directly in the Finder, but those burn as files without having been edited.
    Help me, dear Mac users!

    Hi
But there is no box, but it says I must insert the disk in the mac, though I have already done so.
YES - this is What NOT to do !
If You insert a DVD before asked for it - Mac will ask You if it should format it.
You can select to ignore this and it should work BUT IF You accept to format Your
    Mac will do a Data-DVD and not a Video-DVD.
If You've not been asked to format - then Your Mac can't identify the inserted DVD
(still not asked for by iDVD)
    • Use a Cleaning DVD - for Your SuperDrive (DVD-burner)
    • Please state Brand and type of DVDs used ? eg. Verbatim DVD-R (what I use)

  • Sharing More than One Movie with iDVD????

Okay.. I would like to know if there is another way to burn MORE than one movie an iDVD project. It seems that sending the movie straight to iDVD creates it's own project, and when you try to send another movie, it creates a completely different project. I know I can send a movie to Media browser but the quality of the movie is much better when I share it via the command in iMovie 09 (Shrare->iDVD). I've noticed that the file type is different when you send it to iDVD than when you put it in Media Browser as well.
Currently this is what I do.. Share it to iDVD.. Then I save that iDVD project to my desktop. I close iDVD, and start sharing my second movie. I then Control-Click on the first iDVD project and choose "Show Package Contents". I then dig into the trenches of that file to find the movie file. I then drag it to the desktop and delete the first iDVD project. When the new iDVD project gets made, I simply drag the file on my desktop into the iDVD project I want it in and then it works. This seems like a so un-apple way to do this though. I think iMovie definetly needs and update here. It's great if you ony want to burn a 1 movie to iDVD, but what if you want to do more. There should be a way to select multiple movies to send to iDVD or the option of adding a new imported movie to the current project in iDVD.
Am I missing something or is there another way to do this? Is there a good export option in QuickTime? DV doesn't work because the quality I get is horrible. Somehow the shared to iDVD movie is the best quality and it's a QuickTime file via h.264. Is that my best export option? Sharing with the Media browser creates a mv4 file that's much smaller in size, even at the largest setting. The frames are more jumpier when iDVD finishes with it than the h.264 file.
Any better suggestions? Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple. I can't find it anymore on this website.

Q:Also, where do I go to make suggestions for Apple.
A: Launch iDvd and then scroll down to Provide iDvd Feeback.

  • Burning a movie from idvd

i made a movie on idvd and im trying to burn it...... when i put a blank dvd in it spits it back out and says insert a readable dvd..... i am using dvd-rw....... please help! i need to burn this dvd for an event today

    #1 Rule ..... Don't stress.
Let me make a suggestion. Burn a disc image to the desktop if all else fails here. This essentially eliminates the need to burn to Dvd completely and uses the mac's internal hard drive as a virtual Dvd for playback purposes (keep in mind that both a disc image and a finished idvd respond to apple's dvd player in an identical fashion). You can always use your mac and apple's dvd player to present the disc image to most set tops or TV's with the proper cables ..... Might this work for you?
Other than this, the only other suggestion is to secure the correct / recommended media from the very start.

  • I have been trying to burn a movie in iDVD and it has been VERY slow.  Never had problems in the past.  HELP!

Hi there, I have been trying to burn a movie I created in iDVD.  When in the "creating your DVD" it is VERY slow saying it will take over 6 hours to burn the movie.  I have never had this problem before.  It also won't let me minimize the screen, I just get the beeping noise that something is wrong, but no pop up window telling me what to do.  Does that make sense?  Also the black & orange burn wheel is spinning VERY slowly and will often just stop.  Any help would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

    Hi
When iDVD goes slow to ridiculously slow - it usually depends on - low free space on Start-up hard disk
    • I set for a minimum of 25Gb free space
    • 10Gb might work but slow
    • 5Gb - slow and un-stable - DVD usually doesn't play
    • <1Gb - iDVD might not even start and even so Mac OS runs into problems.
    Else
Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.
    • Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
    iDVD pref file resides.
    Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
    and is named.
    *com.apple.iDVD.plist*
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
    Now restart iDVD.
    • Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
    • Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple’s Disk Utilities application)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
    • Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK will work under Leopard)
    • Program miss-match. iDVD’09 v. 7.0.4, Mac OS X.5.8 AND QuickTime 7.6.4 - is OK (does work under Leopard)
    • iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
    Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    or
    Macintosh HD/Users/Your log-in//Library/Application Support/iDVD/Installed Themes/ zzzzzzzzzz
    • Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
    iDVD updated ?
    Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions
EdinSF writes that, The 10.6.3 update with an Open GL fix seems to have taken care of the problem.

  • I just burned a movie in iDVD and in playback there is a flashing/strobing green across the entire screen.  This pulsating color field is there the entire length of the recording.  Any ideas what I did wrong?

I have idvd 7.0.4 and I loaded a movie from imovie to idvd then burned it to dvdr 4.7G and when I play back I get this pulsating green color over the movie image.  Theis color is the same as a green-screen and there is quite a bit of green screen work in the film.  Any ideas what is happening in the burn process?

Check the suggestions in this topic: Green line across screen when playing a burned dvd..?
The workflow I suggest you follow is:
1 - save the project as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option.
2 - mount the disk image on your Desktop and play it with DVD Player to assure youself that it plays correctly. This tells you the encoding was good.
3 -  burn to disk with Disk Utility at the slowest speed available, 2x or 4X,  to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.

  • Converting HD to SD to burn a DVD with iDVD

    Hello,
I bought myself an HD-camera with a Hard Disk (Sony HDR-XR500E). The native format is AVCHD.
When I transfer the video to my iMac (Intel Core Duo 2,16GHz) I can see the video in my Final Cut Express where the video is transcoded in Apple Intermediate Codec AIC format.
The editing works fine. The pictures are sharp and there are no visible artefacts.
I can export the timeline to Quicktime Movie, and the result is a rather big .mov file.
When I playback this file it appears automatically in a FCExpress window, and I have no problem playing the file.
When I use that .mov file to create a DVD with iDVD the there is a problem. When there is amore than a little bit of movement in the picture, the vertical transitions become distorted (jagged). It looks like I see an interlaced picture where both frames are displaced a little bit. This effect is very good visible when I stop the movie playing.
I see the same effect when I playback the same .mov file in the Quicktime player.
    What am I doing wrong?
I see no place where I can manipulate settings in iDVD or Quicktime.
It is strange that I don’t see this problem when I export my timeline using Quicktime Conversion to create a file for the internet (eg Broadband high).
Who can give me a hint?
    Thx

    Hello Tom,
Sorry for the late reply but the last few days I had other things to my mind.
In the meantime I realise why I was confused, … and you gave me the understanding or the missing link to understand what was happening.
My original problem was burning a HD project I made in FCE on a DVD in SD.
    I thought that:
    1. FCE made an export in a HD format, … and this is right.
    2. iDVD could only accept a movie file in SD, … and this was wrong.
That’s why I was looking for a method to convert my HD-movie in an SD-movie to feed iDVD.
    So my problem is solved.
Bringing a HD movie from FCE to iDVD is very simple: It’s the same as bringing a SD movie to iDVD. iDVD recognizes an HD movie, and does the conversion to SD automatically. So my problem is solved. I produced a DVD starting from my HD movie and it looks as good as the movies I made in the past with my old DV-camera.
It’s a pity I couldn’t find the workflow, to turn a HD movie made by FCE into a SD movie on a DVD using iDVD, in the documentation of FCE or iDVD.
    Why was I confused?
When I was looking at the playback in the canvas window I saw rather good pictures (no artefacts).
When I was looking at the exported movie with my QT player I saw a lot of interlacing artefacts. That’s why I thought there was something wrong with the coding of the exported video, … but it wasn’t.
Your explanation about looking at the canvas window in 100%, and the fact that viewing at any other than 100% was showing a reduced resolution (with interpolation, using only one field) made me understanding the problem.
I did a few tests to verify my thinking. In FCE I used de-interlacing on the video. In the canvas I saw a rather good picture nearly the same as the original (without de-interlacing). When I exported that de-interlaced video and viewed this file in QuickTime, the artefacts were gone.
So, my conclusion is: Don’t use QuickTime to control an exported movie from FCE, because QT is using an interpolating scheme with both fields. The result is absolutely bad especially when there are fast moving objects in the movie.
Tom, thanks again for your help.
I was just wondering what kind of education you have in video, because you seems to know what you are talking about.

  • Burning ITunes Movie in IDVD

Is it possible to burn a movie downloaded in the ITunes store using IDVD?

    Hi K
Only way I would try and ONLY with material that's not under Copyprotection law.
I would connect my Mac S-video out or via iPod to a VHS VCR recorder. From
this to an analog/digitalconverter or Camera with video trough or tape on a
    miniDV tape.
    Then import into iMovie.
Copy protection signal will probably stop this but if not You have to follow law
    anyhow.

  • Unable to burn long movie on Bluray

Longer movies, edited in FCP , converted to QT, won't burn on my external bluray LG-burner. Short movies: no problem.
I get this error code from Toast 10:
    - The drive reported an error
    - Sense key = medium error
    - Sense Code = 0x10
    - Invalid block size for command.
Does anyone know what this means and how to solve the problem?

and I adressed this forum because it is definitely a Mac related problem. < </div>
Maybe, that's just your best guess at the moment.
it's not aht we don't want to help but it's not related at all to FCP. It's a Toast problem because that's the application you have chosen to attempt to burn BD content. FCP gave you the file yo needed to move to Toast, yes?
Contact Toast. But since you've started this thread, when you figure it out, please come back and tell us what you found out form Toast that helped you solve the problem. That will give us some information to help future Toast issues and provide a thread that will pop up in Toast/Blu-ray searches.

  • I just finished creating a movie in IMovie and now want to burn it to a DVD and make it loop.  Since I just purchased this IMac it no longer comes with IDVD.  My question is how to burn and loop a dvd without IDVD.  Thanks for any help.

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.
