Burn Many Copies

I have a project in iDVD that I will need to burn about 25 copies. What's the best way to do this?
Burn one Disc and then copy that disc?
Make a disc image and copy that to a DVD? (I've never made a disc image, is it as easy as it looks?)
Burn them all from iDVD?
Someone said here that you should burn no more than three DVDs in a row. Does the laser really heat up that much? I assume the same issue would happen with LightScribe DVDs as well.
I also want to label the copies. I have printable DVDs. Should I print on them before burning or after? Same question about Light Scribe, better to label before or after burn?
I'm a Mac newbie, rising from the dark ages of a Pentium 2 running Windows 98. I love the power and freedom the Mac is giving me.
Thanks!

I still don't understand how you actually do this. The link says "Creating a disc image of your project
Saving a disc image of your project means creating a file that is formatted just like a finished DVD, except it is stored on your hard disk instead of on a DVD. Having a disc image allows you to easily burn DVDs of your DVD project. You can even use a disc image to play your DVD on your Mac. If you have access to high-speed networking, you can send the disc image to a friend to review your DVD before you burn it."
All it says it that it is easy, not how to do it - it's the same info in Disk utility.
I have a .img file on my desktop that was created by iDVD. I can play this .img file with the Application DVD Player. All I want to do is put that on a DVD that will THEN PLAY in a standard DVD Player, not the "DVD PLAYER" Application. So far I haven't been able to create a disk that plays in a DVD Player. Am I supposed to only burn the folders within the .img file? Are there settings in Disk Utility I need to change? Does the CD/DVD Master setting choice supposed to make it a DVD Player (a machine not the application) compatible disk?
When I use iDVD, I can create a disk that plays in a DVD player, but with each copoy I have to go through the rendering process.
I know all the instructions say this is easy to do, but I can't find a "how to" that says exactly what part of the disc image, settings on dick utility, etc anywhere.

  • Burning multiple copies of a project

Don't mean to ask a stupid question, but here goes.
After I build and format my first copy of a project, all subsequent copies get a message saying that a VIDEO_TS directory of this project already exists. Choosing Reuse will reuse as much of the current VIDEO_TS contents as possible.
Is this normal? By resuing am I getting a DVD with less data than the original?
I must not understand the process involved. Any help out there??
    Thanks.

What is the difference in burning a TS folder in TOAST or saving in .img and using DiskUtility to burn many DVD ?
I have many copies to burn, what is the best workflow ? The TS folder in Toast ( I have vesrion 5.2.3) or format in .img and use DiskUtility to burn ?
When burning multiple copies it is preferred to burn from an disc image file, which you could do with either Toast 5.2.3 or Disk Utility. What's vital is that the image file is UDF format.
Burning a VIDEO_TS with Toast 5.2.3 is prone to error because you have to use the DVD format in the Other tab, click New Disc, add the VIDEO_TS, create an empty AUDIO_TS and then click the burn button. And don't open the VIDEO_TS folder in the Finder before burning because that adds some invisible directory files that could affect the ability of the DVD to be playable. (Toast 6 and 7 automatically remove those files if present).
By the way, Toast 6 and 7 added the ability to select the quantity of discs you want burned.

  • How many copies of 10.2.8 can I have on one HDD? To partition or not to ...

    Hi,
I hope that this makes sense to those who read it. If, it doesn't then, please - someone say so. In case some of you recognize my monicker it has been a good while since I visited and asked for help.
Kappy, I didn't understand everything - had some health issues thus, I couldn't followup?
I have finally installed my Seagate internal, thus my return visit.
I have just installed a Seagate Barracuda 7200, 120 GB HDD. I've made it my master drive. I've partitioned it into four parts. 1) for OS 10.2, 2) for 10.3, 3) for 10.4 and 4) for OS 9. I have not yet put it to use. I made my original Deskstar 40GB the slave, it has three partitions. 1) for 10.2, 2) for OS 9 and legacy 3rd party apps and 3) for photos and videos. I also have an Maxtor One-Touch II External 300 GB FW for backup. Long story - it has 4 partitions, 1) 10.2, 2) 10.3 and .4, 3) for video and photo storage and 4) for OS 9.
    I have several questions.
    1) How many copies of OS 10.2.8 can I have on any one drive - is my Seagate and my Deskstar now considered to be one drive?
1b) Can I have OS 10.2.8 (on both? of them)?
1c) Can I have 10.2.8 on that/both of those drives without causing conflicts or any other problems?
    2) I've been reading through the discussions to see if I could find an answer to any of these questions. What I did find was several different topics that include references about not partitioning new drives.
2a) What are the advantages to partitioning and what are the potential problems/disadvantages created by partitioning a new HDD?
2b) Isn't it necessary to partition a HDD if I'm going to have 10.2, 10.3(maybe), 10.4 and OS 9 all on the same HDD?
2c) Aren't there going to be conflicts especially because of OS 9 and 10.4 being on the same partition?
I will appreciate all replies, corrections, suggestions and requests for clarifications and/or request for additional info.
    Thanks,
    J Ivan
P.S. I'm now going to bed and I won't be back on-line until late this afternoon.

You cannot have more than one copy of OS X on a single volume (partition), but you can install any number of versions of OS X on separate volumes (partitions.)

2a) What are the advantages to partitioning and what are the potential problems/disadvantages created by partitioning a new HDD?
There are no inherent advantages to partitioning in general except that it may provide a convenient means for organization. However, if you desire to install multiple operating systems, partitioning is necessary to keep each OS separate and to enable you to use OPTION booting. The exception to this is installing OS X and OS 9 on the same volume.
2b) Isn't it necessary to partition a HDD if I'm going to have 10.2, 10.3(maybe), 10.4 and OS 9 all on the same HDD?
    Yes. See previous answers.
2c) Aren't there going to be conflicts especially because of OS 9 and 10.4 being on the same partition?
No. And there would be no problems having OS 9 and 10.4 on the same volume. If they are on the same volume you simple cannot use OPTION booting to switch between them.

  • Do I need to get a separate program to burn multiples copies of a DVD on Mac?

Do I need to get a separate program to burn multiples copies of a DVD on Mac, and not have the copies separate into AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS?  I made a series of lesson plans on iMovie.  When it opens on the original disk, it goes right to my music and intro menu.  When I try to burn it to a new DVD, it shows up as AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS.  It does not open at all.  Please advise.
    Thanks,
    Chris

Does the disk image that you created from the previously burned iDVD project look like this?
If so you don't copy any part of it to a blank DVD.  You open Disk Utility and select it like I do in this screenshot:
insert a blank DVD and click on the Burn button.

  • Many copies of a pictures on Iphoto.

    Hello!
I would like to know where I can find more information about using Iphoto. I had to remove all my pictures from Iphoto because there was a mess, many copies of one picture. I deleted some in order to organize them, but they look with low resolution and out of focus.
    Thank you for your help.

    Hi tetrozono;
I think you have posted your question in the wrong forum. Since your question is on iPhoto and you are running a Mac Book, you can't be running OS 9. I would suggest that you repost you question over in the iPhoto forum.

  • Burning multiple copies of a data CD?

I need to burn multiple copies of a data CD (50).  Dragging to a burn folder each time is tedious... is there a way I can enter the number of CDs to burn and then mindlessly feed blank CDs into the (external) burner?

    Well, not quite mindlessly ....
A bit easier process would be to use Disk Utility to create a DVD/CD Master image of the folder you want to burn to CD.  Then use Disk Utility to repeatedly burn the CDs.  But you will still have to initiate each burn; there's no batch function and of course you have to manually feed the blank CDs into your iMac.
In Disk Utility, do File > New > Disk Image from Folder.   Select the folder you want to image, then select Image Format = DVD/CD Master.   This will give you a .cdr file.   Then, still in Disk Utility,, select the .cdr file from the list of disks and click the Burn button.

  • Burning multiple copies of a DVD

How do I burn multiple copies of a DVD in DVDSP without it formatting it every time?

    Kevin Rieg wrote:

Unless I'm misunderstanding, you actually do want DVDSP to Format every time. In DVDSP jargon, Format is the writing of a Build to disc - either optical media or, as Jon mentions, to a hard drive image.
What you don't want it to do is Build (or Build/Format) every single time. Build your DVD once, then Format (aka Command-F) every single time after that.
(I recommend Build first - without Formating - because I like to open the folder I've built to in OS X's DVD Player and confirm that all my functionality is correct. Also, once in a blue moon, I'll have some type of Build issue, like a menu rendering incorrectly, that I'd prefer to spot before I commit to Formatting.)

I have created a DVD via iMovie and burned several copies. It is a large file. When played the some DVD's will stop and display a message SKIPPING DAMAGED Part but will not resume. Some work fine.  It is not the DVD. I have burned from several batches. Hi,
As the previous comment says, CE1XXXX, CE2XXXX, CE3XXXX and CE4XXXX are created. But this is if you are using Costing-based profitability analysis, However, if you're using account-base PA then no tables are created and CPEP, COSP, COSS and other standard CO tables are used.

  • So many folders, with so many copies

I recently upgraded to iPhoto 6, and I've noticed that I've now got several copies of each picture. I'm on a PowerBook G4, and the multiple copies are really eating up my HD. I'm in the process of transferring the entire library to another computer (and not iphoto), but I'm using a 2GB flash drive, and it's a long and painful process. I'm trying to figure out why I have so many copies, and if there's anything I can do to decrease the number of copies.
Currently my iphoto library has five folders of years (out of nine), a Data folder, which looks like it has the entire library, a Found folder, with only a few photos, the cache folder, a Modified folder, which appears to have far more photos than I've actually modified (though I suppose I could believe that I've rotated that many), and an Originals, which seems to have everything. Do I need the year folders in the base directory? Do I need a Data, and an Originals? Is there any way to have fewer copies of these pictures? I know I'm not supposed to just start deleting willy nilly (something I learned from screwin' up my itunes...), but it really seems like this isn't all necessary. I'm up to nearly 8GB in photos, and I don't really have that many, and most of them are not that huge.
Also, if I delete a photo in iphoto, will it remove every copy of that photo from the machine? If not, how do I go about doin' this? I needs my space. I can barely copy a folder these days.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

I don't suppose there's a way to limit the number of additional copies made?
No - iPhoto always keeps the original and a thumbnail and if you make any modifications of any sort a modified version (only the latest modified version)
When I delete a photo in iphoto, will it delete every copy?
Yes - if you delete from the Roll (deleting from an album only removed the photo from that album) by moving to the iPhoto trash and then emptying the iPhoto trash - the finder is not (and can not be) involved in this process
I've been copying the files directly from a folder just to move them to a PC not using iphoto. I figured that so long as I wasn't going to iphoto, and I wasn't deleting anything, it wouldn't matter.
Sort of - any time you are in the iPhoto library you risk making a error and causing problems so it is not recommended - and it is hard to get the correct version this way since there are originals, thumbnails and possibly modified versions to choose from - if you export from iPhoto you know you have the current version
The photos appear to be transferring completely, but as I intend to delete many of the photos from iphoto once I've backed them all up on the other machine, I would like to make sure I'm doing this properly.
    Again only delete using iPhoto

  • So many copies of photos

Why does iPhoto have so many copies of my pictures? I have found the same photo's in three folders. The first two folders are Original and Modified, which seem to be self explanatory, then there is another folder called Data. That means that iPhoto has three copies of most of my pictures, assuming that I modified them. This seems to apply to even simple rotation of images.
Is this correct? How can I keep so many copies from being kept in different places?

The Data folder files are the thumbnail files that iPhoto uses for smaller rendering of the pictures. Any photo that gets edited, including those which have been auto-rotated by the camera, will get a copy created in the Modified folder. Unless you edit all of your photos, you'll usually only have one full sized version and a thumbnail of each photo. It's the nature of the beast. You can't change it.
What with the low cost of additional HDs, photo storage shouldn't be a problem these days like it used to be.
