"BURN" (software)
Anyone heard of "BURN"?
Since my ITunes is not working, I downloaded it from Download.com. its a free app for Mac -- it came highly recommended. - supposedly it will burn CDs, DVD etc
so I dropped 10 songs into it, popped in a cd, clicked BURN and it only burned the LAST song on the list.
so I tried again. I lowered the burn speed to 16x (from 40x) and this time made sure everything was highlighted. still only burned the LAST song on the list.
so I posted the question on their forum but no answers yet.
Since I Tunes will not burn a CD and now this... Im wondering if its something else?
I have a practically new superdrive which I have been able to burn dvds from
any ideas?
so is it safe to say the new superdrive is not at fault here?
I would contend quite the opposite. Since you are using good quality media then it is likely something else which might be the optical drive. Then too I have used really poor quality media with my drive and it only reports errors at the verify stage, not the message you posted earlier.
2nd, they are 80 min cds... the 17songs added up to 1:28:15 .... if the CD is good for 80min (1:20:00) thats leaving about 8min over .. I wonder if it just cut off the remainder of the songs?
Cutting off the tracks for that reason is possible. Can't you get information on the tracks and see how many tracks would get excluded on that basis? Earlier you said "tracks 1-13 work but 14-17 do not." Unless tracks 1-13 are long and the final 4 are short it doesn't sound like they are being cut off for that reason.
I would say that since you are still trying to unravel issues that starting off by trying to burn more tracks than should fit isn't helpful in analyzing what is going on. Try burning something that is, say, 75 minutes in length.
but why would Liquid let me add the tracks? (when you are adding tracks, its adding up the percent of the CD used, so I kept adding till I got to 100%)
I have noticed Liquid CD will do this but I haven't tried burning that way. In fact I usually don't fill a CD to more than 95% capacity since it's usually those last outer regions that are most prone to damage.
3) if superdrive is not at fault, that brings me back to "why does Itunes (9.2.1) shut down when I click "Burn"?
Just so others know, there is a pretty lengthy topic about this in the iTunes forum, where I posted many replies. There were crashes with iTunes. I mentioned others have reported iTunes 9 sometimes resulting in crashes with third party burners such as yours. I suggested trying Patchburn (which supports compatibility of third party burners with Apple burning applications) but you didn't say if you ever tried this. I also suggested using non-iTunes burn utilities which is how this topic arises.

When I attempt to log on to I tunes I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the I Tunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.
This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install I Tunes."
To my knowledge no new software has been installed. I have tried un-installing and re-installing I Tunes but I still
get the same message.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Do I need to download a new driver?
Bill MartinI can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu. -

I have tried reinstalling numerous times but I keep getting the same message and I cannot use the burning feature. I have other burning software on my computer but it has always been there. This problem just started recently. Please help!
This same thing happened to me about two months. ago. I bought a new harddrive for my previously-fried netbook, and when I installed iTunes it gave me the missing registry business. So I came online and looked for solutions. This solution led to a different 'can't burn' error in iTunes, and I found a solution to that one, and it was like I was running in circles for a solid two weeks. Finally I managed to fix the problem, but after trying it hundreds of times I couldn't tell you which solution won out. Well, everything was fine and dandy, until I upgraded iTunes last night. Now its back to the same registry settings problem, and I want to maim something. Someone please help me ;___;
I'm running Windows 7 by the way, on an Acer aspire netbook -
When starting iTunes I continually get an error message " The registry Settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes." I have unistalled and reinstalled iTunes several times and have cleaned up the registry using a 3rd party Windows utility. Any tips on removing this error message for good?
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes -
itunes 12.1.1.4 not run cd rom on windows xp sp3. have removed all cd burning software.
Thanks Alex,
I performed all of the steps you suggested and iTunes v-12.1.1 installed correctly.
The problem is, that version of iTunes now does not recognize my HL-DTST DV-DRAM GMA-4082N, CD/DVD DRIVE.
When I insert a CD to rip into my iTunes library nothing happens.
If I click on the properties for that D-drive nothing shows using the Explore function.
If I open Microsoft Media Player v-11.0.5721.5262 I can see all of the tracks on the disk, and the player rips the songs to the Microsoft Media Player library which I can then play.
I then reinstalled VLC media player v-2.1.5, and was able to play cd's and watch DVD's. When I performed that install I again received the iTunes banner:
Earlier versions of iTunes worked just fine:
iTunes v-11.4 (32-bit) 10 September, 2014, (6 months ago), size: [106.11 MB], for Windows XP SP3 worked on this same Toshiba laptop.
The latest version: iTunes v-12.1.1 seems to want to be the only piece of software allowed on the 32 Bit XP system.
To me, it looks like Apple does not want any other applications running on this system. Not very thoughtful for customers that cannot afford to purchase more expensive computers when they are on a fixed income. I have been a long time user of Apple equipment when employed by Motorola, development engineering.in my younger years.
Is there any way to get the earlier versions of iTunes back on this laptop?
Thanks,

Tecra M5: UJ-841s not recognised as DVD/RW by any burning software
I have seen on other posts that it is common for the drive to be identified in the Device Manager as a DVD-RAM (which is what is happening) but my DVD Multi-recorder (on a Tecra M5) is not recognised by any DVD burning software.
Is there an update or driver I should have?
ThanksHi
My first question: Do you use the Toshiba OS from the Toshiba recovery CD?
Did you install and use several burning applications together?
In my practical knowledge its not advisable to use different burning programs together.
You should use only one. I recommend Nero. Its nice.
If the sonic is installed on the HDD, try to remove it and use only the nero.
If the drive will be not able to handle the DVD medias, you should check different brands. -
so still trying to figure out why i can no longer burn discs and it still says no disc burner software found. here is my diagnostics

please help!! i've recently updated to the latest itunes version. after much hassle in doing so, it now tells me that the registry settings for importing or burning CD's/DVD's doesn't work and that i should reinstall itunes. i,ve done that from the website and from a saved position, but it doesn't work. i don't want to have to delete my library to have to start again !!!! there must be another way. it also said that it might be to do with other CD/DVD burning software, but i haven't put any on my computer that itunes didn't seem to lke before
I have the exact same issue. I havent found our what is causing it either. Multaple re-install attempts with no success. I have to use Windows Media Center to burn audio discs. Any other advice?

No disk burning software installed warning
My 12 year old Granddaughter needed some help with her iPod and a disk burning problem. The iPod was a snap, she probably knows more about it than I do! But the real problem is how I may have installed Panther on my old iMac 400DV which she now uses. When she wants to burn a CD from iTunes, the blank CD shows up fine ( including on the Desktop ) but she gets a warning that she can't burn the CD because there is "no disk/c burning software installed"!
Is it possible that I could have installed Panther and not installed the needed pieces to burn a CD?
I know I burned CD's in OS 9 before I upgrade the OS and gave her the iMac. Is it possible that the version of iTunes in her version of Panther is the problem? I don't know exactly which version she has of iTunes, but I see many posts here about 6.0.3 fixing burning problems. I'm using a plain jane 6.0 version in Tiger with no problems.
I just need to know what pieces to update/fix. As you can imagine, burning CD's for ones family is a big problem for some 12 year olds! You are totally correct, I discovered that after searching Apple spec sheets. I suppose that is why I bought a firewire CD burner! [headbash] Since I gave all the hardware ( iMac, scanner, etc, ) to my Granddaughter, I don't have it sitting here in front of my nose! So I'm claiming that and my age as the reason for the question!
And it was not custom ordered. Similar to my brain which is also the 'stock' model. Problem is, there are too few connections or too many bad 'cells'. Perhaps they need a faster refresh cycle, also.
Anyway, thanks for the answer. hope you got a laugh at my forgetfulness. -

Using export slide show from iphoto, I am trying to create a DVD of photos and vid clips in large format. The vid clips do not work using burn software. Any idea?
Have used large format, but using the 'burn' software, I am not getting seamless video quality on DVD even though I am burning at 2* speed. Any ideas? Do I need better software? Or is there a problem with the SuperDrive?

iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes -
Ok. So, I installed new Itunes...Now, it says "Registry Settings used by Itunes driver for importing, burning are missing. this can happen as a result of installing other CD Burn Software. Please re-install Itunes"
Here is what I have done so far:
(1)I used Microsoft Fixit for my CD Drive. It has now made my drive invisible to Itunes and Roxio.
(2)I removed both Itunes and Roxio software and reinstalled. Still cannot locate CD/DVD Drive.
(3)I tried regedit that Apple suggest, however, I do not have files UpperFilters and Lowerfilters on the screen. I followed all 10 steps and its not there.
Anyone have any ideas?no I didn't see the upper / lower, I am not computer oriented to mess with the regestry, I am amazed apple have not said a word about this update, it sure makes you think about buying thier products in the future, but then again all the big companies are now the same way, take a look at the Blu-ray nonsense in the last couple of years with firmware updates every month just play a movie!
