iTunes v 6.05
Selected 4x burning speed under preferences
Will not burn , get message, "iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media". I am using Verbatim disks with said burn speed and didn't have problems in the past. Have tried marking 2x, maximum possible burn speed and nothing works. Also could not burn pictures to a CD either. This used to work before memory upgrade.
1.25 GHz PowerPC G4 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

Burning Speed in Itunes

What is the normal time it should take to burn and audio CD in Itunes? I have a the superdrive that comes the with the Powerbook G4 12 inch but I feel like burning a CD in itunes 7 is a lot slower than it was in 6. Anyone know?

I haven't noticed any difference burning from iTunes 7 vs 6. What is your burn speed set to in your iTunes>Preferences>Advanced>Burning panel? I have mine set to the top rated burn speed for my SuperDrive or 24x rather than Automatic. I believe your SuperDrive has the same write speed according to this review. See if changing the burn speed to a specific number improves the write performance.

Changing the Burning Speed in iTunes

Has the option for changing the burning speed been taken away in the most recent version of iTunes. I thought this used to be an option under iTunes/Preferences, but I can't seem to find it. Any information about this would be appreciated.

Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

Issues burning discs on iTunes/ error message about burn speed

I've never had problems burning discs on iTunes until today, I tried to burn one of my playlists on a Memorex CD-R.
- The burn seemed to be going OK at first, but the drive started making an obnoxious, loud noise by the 4th song out of 16.
- The progress bar in iTunes then said "burning disc, finalizing" even though the CD had not been finished.
- The drive practically launches the CD out, causing it to drop, rather than ejecting half way and holding it like usual. An error message came up saying something along the lines of, "iTunes cannot burn this CD because the burn speed is too high for the CD drive or media. Lower the burn speed in the burning pane of preferences"
- I tried it again without changing the burn speed (which I suppose was set to maximum) thinking it was something to do with the disc. The same thing happened the second time I tried to burn the disc. The reason I didn't change the burn speed when it asked me to was because I'd never been prompted about the burn speed and I've used the whole stack of these Memorex CD's without problems.
I am trying to figure out where the problem really lies - does this sound like an iTunes issue (which needs an update except that my system does as well), CD issue or a drive issue? Is there a more reasonable burn speed I should try next time?

I keep getting error code 4450 when I'm trying to burn a CD from itunes. It keeps my CD and won't eject it and says "cancelling burn" forever then itunes locks up and my cd is ruined and NO songs on it.

i can't burn cd's in iTunes anymore. I get error code 4450 when I'm trying to burn a playlist. Songs from my own cd's, or bought in iTunes (have not burned 7x's as I can't BURN any cd's at all!), Then my cd gets stuck in the drive. and it says "cancelling burn" forever and then itunes freezes up. I have a Dell with Windows 7.
-I've slowed down the burn as slow as it can go
-I have bought 3 different brands of cd's
-i have the latest version of iTunes.

I have Windows 7 on a Dell. Open and play iTunes in the compatability mode and use Windows XP (service pack 2). Disregard any messsages to disable the compability mode. This has worked for me. I have also reinstalled iTunes and played with burn speeds etc. These ideas did not work. Compatability mode works.

Error 4000 burning CDs with iTunes 7.1

iTunes checks the disc, then burns 3-4 songs, then cancels the CD burn wasting yet another disc. Also, I cannot backup my purchased songs with the backup feature. I get the same error 4000 when attempting to make a backup disc. These problems only began after installing iTunes 7.0. How can these problems be fixed? TIA.
BTW, other CD/DVD burning applications continue to function fine.

Same problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now.

I have been having on going problems burning CD’s in iTunes for YEARS, and I know I am not the only one. I get the error message above. Having checked the forum at the time, and posted for help, I am know there is no real solution except to change brand of disc.
Thing is, now I can’t get ANY brands to work. I’ve been through Verbatim, Maxell, JVC, Sony, but none work. The only brand that would work were TDK audios which I can no longer find anywhere.
I know its not the burner, as Toast works fine, and I know I am not alone. Anyone got any ideas?
Even after years Apple seem to be blanking this question. It’s very frustrating not being able to burn my purchased itunes downloads to disc.

To anyone who is interested I think I may have found a possible solution. When you put a blank disc in the drive, wait about 30-60 seconds or so for it to stop spinning before burning.
This seems to work. It's a bit sticky but eventually works. I tried both TDK & Maxwell discs and 9 out of 11 worked. Absolutely no reason why the other 2 didn't, but it's a lot better than none.

CD burner error: Burn Speed Too Fast

Whenever I try to burn a CD on my eMac an error message says
"iTunes can't burn this CD because the burn speed is too fast for your CD burner or media. Choose a lower speed in the burning pane of iTunes Preferences then try burning again".
It even says that when the burning speed is on x1. It says that on every speed. So does anyone know how I can fix this problem and make it be able to burn CDs? Is it because I have nearly 10,000 songs on my iTunes, so that is somehow making it slow down?
The blank disc I'm using is "High Quality Pure Silver CD-R 80 Tevion"
It has 700 megabytes (80 minutes) on it, and I want to burn a CD that is 60 minutes, exactly. So, help? Thanks.

Let me see if I can help you understand your delima.
Just because you buy a very expensive Media Brand, doesn't mean it is any good. There is such a wide range of quality in CD's and DVD's it is really hard to select what is considered to be the best.
A very good guide to use for Media in general for both CD, and DVD's is below.

Next there are a couple of KEY points to remember when burning, these will help you.
Never have any other Applications open when burning.
I tend to use either CD-R or DVD-R Media, the reason is these 2 formats are the most widely used and recognized in all Players, and Computers alike.
Always choose the slowest speed to get a high quality burn.
This next suggestion is probably the most important.
Not all CD-R's and DVD-R's are the same
Read the packaging carefully
Many will explain that they will burn at all speeds from 1X upwards
This will help insure that your burner Software will choose the correct speed.

Slow Burn/Importing Speeds in ITUNES

I am using the most current version of Itunes (updated 11/17/09). It takes longer to import a CD than it does to play it. The most common import/burn speed is less than .1! Usually it shows (.07x). Can't figure how to change the burn speed or speed up importing CD. In the past it used to be super fast and took no time at all. Help! What is wrong??? I have plenty of RAM and lots of storage space. Computer is recently updated and I use AVG.

Look in your iTunes Import settings. If "Error Correction" is turned on, turn it off.
If that does not help, try ripping a CD with another program on the same computer, such as Windows Media Player. If that is also slow, the problem is likely in your CD drive. On the other hand, if WMP rips satisfactorily, simply add the resulting MP3s to your iTunes library.

Itunes can't burn this cd because the burn speed is too fast for your cd...

For the first time since upgrading to 10.3.9 I'm trying to burn a data disc from iTunes to backup some files. It fails every time and ruins the blank CD. This is getting expensive!
The CDs are Phillips CD-R 52x. (Yes, I've used blanks from this very box before the 10.3.9 upgrade and it never failed before.) iTunes was set to 24x burn then changed to "maximum possible" for the burn speed.
Most times it looks like it's burning the playlist but around the 5th file it spits it out and gives the error "itunes can't burn this cd because the burn speed is too fast for your cd burner or media". Sometims it just locks up itunes with "checking media" and I have to force quit iTunes. Then the disc is ruined. It won't even show up in Finder.
Ugh. Anyone know how to fix this?

I just tried setting the iTunes preferences to burn at 4x (since in theory the specs say my SuperDriver burns CDs at 8x) and got the following error.
