Burn .srt files with movie to disc

(this question is not about QT itself, but maybe I need to use it to achieve what I want)
Hi,
I've got an .avi file and an .srt file. I want to burn this movie with the subtitles to a DVD or VCD or whatever something that can play on a regular DVD player. Because DVD players don't understand .srt files, I need to burn the subtitles into the movie.
I found tutorials on the web, but none was for a Mac.
Thanks!

I'm looking at the same situation, and haven't found an acceptable answer yet. The inelegant workaround I did for the moment was to just play the subtitled file in VLC then hook up my PowerBook's video output to our HD recorder, and burn the DVD from there. Repeat after me: "clumsy!" (:
I've successfully imported the movie file into iMovie, but while adding a subtitle or two is doable with the "Subtitle Multiple" title, manually re-entering the timing for everything is out of the question.
There's an iMovie-related app called Slick Caption, but they don't have a demo version so I haven't tried it.

  • Using subtitle SRT files with FLV files

Pretty much the way the summary states. Needs to embed srt
files with flv files in actionscript. Anyone know how?

    Ouw-wee! Photoshop 2 on System 6?
Do you have the files transferred to newer media or are they still on the System 6 Mac?
If they are still on the old Mac your options are limited, only diskettes worked on the old machines and SCSI hasn't been available on Macs in years..
Since Photoshop didn't have layers until PS 3.0, even if you get them open, they are single layers only.
Do you happen to know the file format they were saved as?
    Good Luck!

  • Can't burn some files with DVD studio pro...Makes no sense to me

I'm sure this problem is a result of me not having understanding of video compression, or codec, or something like that, but I am beyond frustrated with this program at the moment.
For some reason I DVD studio will not recognize certain videos.
    Example...I downloaded two videos from youtube...both mp4's.
imported both into FCP for editing
Exported both to my desktop using the Export at Quicktime Movie option
Went into DVD Studio to burn to DVD. one worked, one would not.
Anyone PLEASE help, what am I not understanding about why DVD SP won't recognize these files?
    Thank you
    Todd

First, take a look at the manual.
Second. well. YouTube mp4s (h.264) Aren't in an editing codec. So when you exported as a quicktime movie you probably did so with the h.264 codec which DVD Studio didn't like.
DVDs really like Mpeg files for picture and ac3 for audio. Now you can create those first (in Compressor for example), or, DVD SP will create them for you, but only if you give them nice healty MOV files. The problem really lays in how you got them out of FCP. We'll want to know exactly what form of MOV ended up on your desktop. The easiest way to tell is to go to the Sequence menu at the top of FCP and look at the sequence settings and tell us what they are. We can help from there--there's nothing wrong with your software, at least at this point.

  • How do I burn an AME encoded movie to disc?

Hi.  My encoded movie saves as 2 separate files; audio and video. I think I want them as 1 file only so that I can drag and drop the file ready to burn to disc. I am using CS5 but Encore has died. Any help would be appreciated thank you.

    Hi,
I am using CS5 but Encore has died.
Do you mean you don't have Encore installed?
If you have Premiere Pro, you can import the Video and Audio and export a single file and use a third party DVD maker to burn it to a disc (if that is what you need)
    Thanks,

  • (need help) Replacing AVI files with MOV files in a edit.

I'm working on a large edit that uses low res AVI files for editing,
Though all the high res files are written as MOV's with exactly the same name (just being a different filetype)
Is there a way to automaticly re-link all those avi movies with those high res MOV files?
The edit is quite big, so it would save me a very tedious job

Close Premiere.  Change the name of the folder the current AVI files are in.  Reopen Premiere.  When it asks you where the files are, point it to the new ones.
The only stumbling block may be the different extension.  I'm not sure if Premiere will pass that by or trip over it.

  • How to use SRT file with MP4

I want to use soft subtitles with video so I still have the option to play them without subtitles if I wish. How can I enable QuickTime Player to play MP4 with soft subtitles SRT extension? I can play AVI with subtitles in QuickTime (QT doesn't have codecs for AVI, duh, but I installed Perian to overcome that weakness). I can export the MP4 as AVI, but when I do, the result looks terrible. It seems QuickTime cannot correctly export MP4 to AVI. I can play MP4 with SRT subtitles in VLC Player, but the subtitles don't have decent shading to make them readable, like they do in QuickTime Player. Because of that, I want to find a solution for using MP4 with SRT in QuickTime Player. Any suggestions?

The reason you see SRT soft subtitles in AVIs is because it's the Perian component that's drawing subtitles. QuickTime itself has no capability to read any external subtitle files. When you open up a MP4 file, Apple's own codecs kick in, and not Perian; therefore, you don't see any subtitles.
There's not a lot you can do:
    1. You can wait for Apple to implement SRT support. I wouldn't hold my breath.
    2. You can talk to/beg/threaten the Perian developers and see what they can do. Note that this feature request is already filed in 2007 ( http://trac.perian.org/ticket/56 ), and they haven't acted on the request for three years.
    3. You can extract the video and audio tracks from the container and put it in a Perian-compatible container. MKV is the best option for this, I think. Note that you do not want to directly export your video to a new format, or to re-encode the tracks -- that will cost you quality. You need to find a program that lets you extract the MP4/AAC/whatever tracks from the container and remux them into a different container, such as MKV or AVI. If you can get Perian to handle the video, rather than Apple's default decoders, you'll get the SRT in QuickTime Player.
    4. You can use a different player. Honestly, I agree you with that most of the alternative players out there have absolutely atrocious user interfaces (I'm looking at ya, VLC). In the end, though, I just want to watch the video, and not fight with various video/audio formats.

  • Burning mp3 files with SuperDrive - first 10 sec of each song missing

    Hello music fans,
When I burn mp3 songs to a CD  using SuperDrive on a MacBook Air (mid 2012), the first 10 seconds of every song are not playing.
This had never happened to me before using other drives. I tried all sorts of tricks, disks and programs and everything points to the SuperDrive. When I play the disc on the computer  all is fine. The issue shows when playing the disc on a Sony mp3 disc player which usually never had such issues before when I used Tiger and another burner.
FYI burning regular CDs works OK.
Does anybody have this problem as well?
    Thanks,
    Marin

As Chris already answered, Copy To Play Order basically locks down the play order of the playlist so it shows up that way in the iPod. If you simply sort the playlist with a certain header in iTunes, once the playlist goes to the iPod, the iPod doesn't know or respect that sort order. But if you Copy To Play Order, then you lock down the order of the playlist.
I am sticking with iTunes 6 simply because it isn't broken, so I have no reason to upgrade and risk issues. Plus, upgrading iTunes requires me to also upgrade QuickTime to version 7 which presents a number of potential issues with my system. Mac OS 10.3.x does not always play nicely with QT7 and I don't want to risk not being able to properly use other QT dependent Apps like iTunes, iMovie, and iDVD. Right now my system is perfectly stable and operating very nicely. Since I am not interested in dropping $130, or whatever it is, to upgrade the Mac OS, I am not interested in upgrading QT or iTunes and potentially FUBARing my setup.
Same with my iPod. My fifth generation iPod still uses Firmware version 1.0 (the original version). I think they are up to something like v1.2.x now. Again, the iPod works perfectly so why update? Especially since many of the updates only add features to support other Apple products I don't want and in some cases even remove features I do want (being able to toggle the LCD backlight using the menu button for example).

  • Use .srt file for subtitles-less video bought in iTunes store

    Context:
    - I bought a TV episode on the iTunes store, but unfortunately, unlike most TV shows on the store, it doesn't come with subtitles.
    - However, I've found an .srt file with the subtitles for said episode.
Question: how can I get to play the video file with the .srt subtitles file?
    What I've tried:
    - iTunes doesn't seem to "recognize" the .srt file and display the subtitles it contains
    - I can't get VLC to play the video (I gather VLC can't play DRM-protected M4V files)
    Any ideas?

I don't have any iTunes Store movies.  Will they play in Quicktime?  If they will here is an old post from 2010:

You'll have to rely upon the subtitle being in sync with the particular video you have.

  • DVD BURNING AND FILE DOWNSIZING

Hi I want to burn a dvd on a 4.7gb disc. Yet the dvd file is to big. Is there a way to downsize the file so I can burn this file on to the disc?

Depending on what it is exactly you are trying to burn.
Roxio's Popcorn, and Toast-7 both have the ability to compress large files and compress them to fit on a standard 4.7gb DVD.
This is how you fit a 7 or 7.3gb file of a Commercial DVD Movie on a 4.7gb disc.
I would however suggest when you pose a question, give as much detailed information as you can.
This will allow all to give you a detailed answer to your problem.
    Cheers Don

  • Burning multiple video clips on one disc

    Hi Guys,
I have 12x3 minute music videos (about 300 mb. each) which I want to burn onto one DVD.
I am unsure of the correct method. I have tried using Toast but it didn't work.
The 12 videos have all been exported using Quicktime conversion and were shot in HDV.
Any help much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Should work. I do it all the time.
    How is it not working?
Are you trying to make a DVD that will play on a set-top DVD player? Or just burn the files to a DVD disc for use on a computer?
Standard workflow - for a DVD that plays in a set-top DVD player:
Export a QuickTime movie from the editor without Conversion and Self-Contained.
Open Toast, click on the Video Tab
    Choose DVD
Drag in file(s) to the Toast window
Set the menu (if you want one)
Click on Burn, Toast encodes the files for the DVD and then burns the disk.

    Hi,
It may be worth trying another burning application to see if this helps the issue.
Download and install the free utility, ImgBurn and use this to create the DVD.  Guides on using this to burn to single layer and dual layer discs are below.

  • "file is not compatible when import assets in dvd studio pro, my file are .mov and .mp4, what is the problem?

i have a MacBook Pro v. 10.7.5, also have dvd studio pro 4.2.2
I have a file exported from final cut v. 7, using quick time movie option, it created a file with .mov. When I import to dvd studio pro, I have an error
message " file is not compatible". shall I export again using different parm? settings? thanks for the help in advance.

Thanks, Russ. I had my problem resolved by re-creating file from Final Cut using the "Video Format" as "MPEG-4 improved" instead of "H.264" before.
My orginial source is a dvd came from Taiwan, I used software 'Handbrake' to convert it to MPEG-4. Input to Final Cut to edit it. Exported out with H.264 as Video Format, wishing to improve the image quality but run into 'file impaitable' when import to DVD SP.
Now. I exported out Final Cut using the following parms, pictures quality is not bad.
    1. File format = MP4
    2. Image size= 1280x720 HD
    3. frame rate = 30
    4. video format = MPEG-4 Improved
hope this help people who might run into same problem. I never use the Compressor, will try it next time. thanks Russ.

No, there's not a way to do this because Keynote doesn't currently export video to Flash files.

  • How do you burn videos taken with myIphone and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I alos tried using Real Players file converter with no success!

How do you burn videos taken with my Iphone 4S and stored on my computer to a DVD disc.  I purchased and tried using RealPlayer Plus 16 but got error message saying "unsopported media type"?  I also tried using Real Players file converter with no success!  Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

Probably the OP is no longer paying attention to this unless the OP is subscribed to this discussion.  While not really an iPhone question I guess using an iPhone to produce the movie which then needs taking to the next step makes this as good a starting place as any unless you happen to know enough about what to do to determine in which forum to post.  A suggestion in that direction would help.
Anyway, Apple is backing off from supporting optical media.  It also depends upon what you mean by "DVD".  A DVD is just an optical disc which can support different file formats, but many people think it means a movie disc you can put in your TV.  Producing a movie disc requires special iDVD authoring software Apple used to sell but stopped several years ago.  I don't know if the old versions work under newer systems.  There's also the free Burn application which authors DVDs but takes a bit of learning and has nowhere near the features of iDVD.
If the OP means simply burning the transferred movie files to a DVD for archiving in computer format you don't need special software for that; its built into the operating system File > New Burn folder etc.
