Burn time = 42 HOURS !!!!

iDVD 7.01 is still burning a 1 GB (90 minute) MP4 (@ high quality setting).
How come so long?!
Activity Monitor shows 110.6 pct CPU / 22 threads 122 MB real memory & 577 virtual memory.
What's wrong with this movie?!

Encoding is taking all the time. I think format conversion is responsible.

  • IDVD Burn Time = 32 hours?!

    Hi all,
I've done a search on this but haven't really found any suggestions. Apologies if I've missed a thread containing this info.
I've set iDVD to burn a little over 2 hours of video from .MOV format (originally in MKV but converted via Quicktime Pro).
Should it really be 32 hours to do this? I've set the menus to no loop/sound, but had to put it in Best Quality to squeeze all the video on the disc.
    I'm using a MacBook C2D which I recently upgraded to 4GB RAM and a faster 7200rpm 200GB hard drive.
I've been through Activity Monitor and quit all running applications. I've also covered the progress bar as I've read that can make a difference.
Is there anything else I can do apart from be incredibly patient?

    Thanks Siberian,
I used iDVD as there are three TV episodes on the disc which are approx. 42 mins each. I assumed as that would necessitate using a menu I should use iDVD. Is this not the case?

  • Is An External DVD Burner Needed To Reduce Burn Time?

I burned a DVD consisting of 400 photos with added music from iTunes but took nearly 2 hours.
In the book "iLife '06" Michael Rubin suggests an Apple SuperDrive or compatible third-party DVD burner for burning DVD's as the minimum system requirements for the ilife suite.
Is the 2-hour burn time typical thus the reason for using a DVD burner? I will buy the burner if it significantly reduces the burn time.
    Thanks,
    Carlos Marques

To add to what Michael said, you actually would benefit from a slower burn time ... like making your project into a Disc Image then using Disc Utility to burn at the slowest rate possible, thereby eliminating some potential problems
As stated, you are stuck with the actual encoding rate unless you speed up your puter

  • Approximate Burn Times by Length of Project

I'm new to iDVD and just yesterday burned my first project, 10 minutes worth of footage and it took about 30 minutes to burn. Is this typical?
Can people who have more experience w/ iDVD assign some typical burn times to the following projects?
    10 minutes of video:
    30 minutes of video:
    1 hour of video:
    2 hours of video:
Also, I used a 4X DVD-R disc. Would it be faster w/ an 8X DVD-R disc? Is so, would it burn twice as fast as a 4X DVD-R?
    Thanks for your thoughts.

In my short bit of experience, I have found that you can expect about one minute of processing time for the video section for each minute of video. Then, at the beginning, the processing of the write in and menu could take a while (anywhere from a few minutes to 15 or so depending on what you put into the drop zones, etc. The biggest hangup seems to be in the processing of the audio portion which comes after the video. The shorter your project the shorter the audion processing time but typically what I have been getting is about 20 minutes for audio processing after processing a video of a 30-40 minute project. And some people have had the experience (I did too) of having the audio processing take literally hours. There seems to be a bug in the program. You can check some of the other threads on this.
And, BTW, 30 minutes to burn a 10 minute project is not unusual. My general expectation is 1 minute of processing time for each minute of video plus 20 - 30 minutes for the audio when things are working right.
I have an older G5 (Dual 1.8 GHz late 2004 machine) so that may be a factor as well.
Don't know about the speed of 8x vs 4x as I burn my projects to a disc image and then use Toast Titanium to burn the actual DVD at "Best Speed"
    Hope this helps.

  • I need to burn many 2 hour dvds

iDvd gives me an error message after about an hour.  It says it will take almost 6 hours to burn the two hours of footage.  Can this be right?   I need to put about 77 hours of film onto DVDd that can be watched on a TV.  Should I get an external DVD burner for this project?
    Thank you!

You can use your internal Superdrive for this purpose but it may tend to overheat after too many repeated burns. Allow it to cool for about ten minutes after 3-4 burns.
Burn at a slow rate of 2x or 4x.
Also, remember to set the correct encoding setting:
    iDVD encoding settings:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1502?viewlocale=en_US
    Short version:
Best Performance is for videos of up to 60 minutes
Best Quality is for videos of up to 120 minutes
Professional Quality is also for up to 120 minutes but even higher quality (and takes much longer)
That was for single-layer DVDs. Double these numbers for dual-layer DVDs.
Professional Quality: The Professional Quality option uses advanced two-pass technology to encode your video (The first pass determines which parts of the movie can be given greater compresson without quality loss and which parts can’t.  The second pass then encodes those different parts accordingly) , resulting in the best quality of video possible on your burned DVD. You can select this option regardless of your project’s duration (up to 2 hours of video for a single-layer disc and 4 hours for a double-layer disc). Because Professional Quality encoding is time-consuming (requiring about twice as much time to encode a project as the High Quality option, for example) choose it only if you are not concerned about the time taken.
In both cases the maximum length includes titles, transitions and effects etc. Allow about 15 minutes for these.
You can use the amount of video in your project as a rough determination of which method to choose. If your project has an hour or less of video (for a single-layer disc), choose Best Performance. If it has between 1 and 2 hours of video (for a single-layer disc), choose High Quality. If you want the best possible encoding quality for projects that are up to 2 hours (for a single-layer disc), choose Professional Quality. This option takes about twice as long as the High Quality option, so select it only if time is not an issue for you.
Use the Capacity meter in the Project Info window (choose Project > Project Info) to determine how many minutes of video your project contains.
NOTE: With the Best Performance setting, you can turn background encoding off by choosing Advanced > “Encode in Background.” The checkmark is removed to show it’s no longer selected. Turning off background encoding can help performance if your system seems sluggish.
And whilst checking these settings in iDVD Preferences, make sure that the settings for NTSC/PAL and DV/DV Widescreen are also what you want.

  • Burn Time

I'm new to burning DVD's with iDVD and iMovie. My project is 12 GB and is taking over 5 hours to burn. Is this normal, and is there a faster way to burn DVDs on my Mac?

I have both a G4 with 867 MHz and a G5 with dual processor 2 GHz. a one hour project (about 13 GB) would take about 4 hours on my G4 with relatively simple menus and audio. it would take about 1.5 hours on my G5. Five hours for your project might be reasonable if you have somewhat fancy audio and DVD chapter menus.
You should be sure and limit the length of the audio on each set of DVD chapters to no more than90 seconds. More time is not necessary and longer times extend the burn time. Previous versions of iDVD actually limited this to 30 seconds.

  • Prebuy Ques: External DVD - Burner Burn Time?

I have a ton of files on CDs & ZIP disks. They take up a LOT of physical space. I want to categorize and burn them to DVD's so I can discard the ZIP disks, wipe most off my external LaCie HD and regain some storage space.
I've read several comments here about oh-so-slow DVD burning times.
So I have several related questions. I have a LaCie Burner on Order.
    It comes with Toast.
Must a DVD be burnt in one session?
    Or is multi-session burning possible?
Hopw much free space do I need when burning DVDs?
How long does it take to burn a DVD given my system's configuration?
    Thanks in advance for responses.

    1. If you buy DVD-R or DVD-RW media, yes. DVD-R media doesn't support multisession burning.
    3. If you're using the Finder, you may need up to 9.4GB available on your hard disk to burn a DVD. Toast has a lower requirement.
    4. As long as the DVD burner is connected through FireWire and you're burning a data DVD, you can burn a DVD in approximately one or two hours. Burning a DVD over the USB port on your machine will take much longer(and may not be possible at all), and trying to burn a video DVD will take several hours or days on a G3-based system.

  • Encoding / Burning Time On Different Computers

    We just purchased a few new Mac's.... an iMac 27"w/ Intel i5 2.8 and a MacPro w/ 2x 2.4 Xeon Quad-Core processor.
We bought the iMac's for simple photo editing and printing and the MacPro's for encoding and burning DVD's ... and now I am finding both encoding and burning the same, not good!
The encoding and burning time is almost the same on both computers... Actually the iMac is a little quicker (more then 5 minutes) then the Mac Pro
Why is the encoding time on both Macs basically the same?
My source files are MP4 H.264 10.05Mbit to be burns on a SD DVD (NTSC). We are putting about 25mins of footage on the DVD's.
Am I missing something? Should the Mac Pro with double ram and double processor be faster? Maybe a setting to speed up the encoding time on the Mac Pro?
    Thank you for any help!

    Hi William Q
Welcome to Apple discussions. Great question! Most Mac applications (iDvd included) are multi-threaded, at least to some degree. Multiple processors often boost performance in most multi-threaded applications as well as when one is multitasking; or having multiple applications running all at the same time.
The way to tell this is to run /Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app, then right-click (or control-click) on the columns header line and ensure that the "# Threads" column is checked.
Now run your application(s) (as shown below) and you will see the number of threads they are executing. Note that this number varies according to what exactly the app is currently doing, as temporary task-specific threads may be created only when needed.

  • HP pavilion dv7 6165us windows 7 64 bit sound glitch 3-5 times an hour

i have a dv7 6165us and i have the sound glitch at least 3 times an hour it glitches for 2 seconds and interupts music video and games lagging.Ive talked to hp and ive done everything possible listed.
    DRIVERS
    REINSTALL SYSYTEM
    TURN OFF DRIVEGUARD
TEST ISSUE WITH AC ADAPTER UNPLUGGED
    UPDATE BIOS
    HARD RESET SYSTEM
Ive tried everything and that annoying little glitch or pop or whatever is still there.the system is for my son for college so i dont have time to send it back to HP.does anyone and or HP have any suggestions.
By the way HP you are very quiet on these forums rarely interjecting with support.Whats the problem if youve solved this problem for only one person your system of support should be set up to pass these fixes on to other customers.Im not holding my breath for an answer but who knows maybe theres a HP tech who takes pride in there work thatll see this.
And if it is a known motherboard issue there should have been a recall and i never should have been sold a faulty machine.

    You're very welcome.
You do have a point, and I agree wholeheartedly.
I'm sure folks have brought this up in the past, but I don't know why HP doesn't provide some official presence on these forums.
Sometimes some of the HP employee forum members will do things like get driver pages added for models with no support pages, but I have rarely if ever, seen where an HP volunteer forum member takes a techinical issue and "runs it up the flagpole," as it were.
Have you tried this driver (6.10.6365.0 (11 Nov 2011)?
It's a newer version of the one on your notebook's support and driver page.

  • How do I log the time in hours, minutes and seconds to a table

    Hi
I'm a relatively new user of Labview. I am currently writing a program that logs the temperature of an oven and the current time to a table and graph. I am using a GPIB card to communicate with the oven. I have used the Get Date/Time string to get the time and the Decimal String to Number to convert the time to a number which I have then put into an array which goes to a table and graph. My problem at the moment is that the time is being logged in hours only. I need to log the time in hours, minutes and seconds. Can you tell me how I can do this?

    Hi,
I can see the setup now. The decimal string to number will only ever give the hours, since the ':' character is not part of a number, so won't translate. Use the code I attached previously to get the time as a timestamp, and then go from there.
I've made some modifications, although you'll need to alter the file save to take into account the double precision number
for the timestamp is now 3E+9 (since it's seconds since 1904!!), but since you're writing to a comma separated values (or tab deliminated) style file, this shouldn't be a problem. You could always do a textual save from the table instead.
    Thanks

Can Acrobat create PDF files that once downloaded - can't be opened after some preset time (48 hours)?

    Hi Edward lkeda,
I am not very sure of that however as per my knowledge , you can use Adobe send service and provide public link to your users and then after 48 hrs you can delete the file from server and make File-link inaccessible.
    Hope that helps,

  • Daily working hours calculation but Half an hour flexi before start of planned time & shortfall hours calculation

    Dear All,
I want to calculate daily working hours but Half an hour flexi before start of planned time & shortfall hours calculation if a person didn't completed 9 hours job.
We have different types of DWS, PWS & WSR for different PS/PSA & EG/ESG groupings.
We have a requirement for Executives/Officers (E0-E8/ S1-S2) for only one PSA (1100) for only one DWS(GFLX). In this requirement I want to calculate daily working hours but Half an hour flexi before start of planned time & shortfall hours calculation if a person didn't completed 9 hours job.
Please see the requirement and my configured DWS and PCR's in detail with example and suggest me the solution:-
    Overview
I want to calculate (Please take the reference from DWS screenshot)
daily working hours, but starting from first Begin Tolerance Time
Shortfall of hours if 9 hours not completed, but again starting from first Begin Tolerance Time, although employee has come before Begin Tolerance Time
I've configured one DWS as below,
    Requirement:-
The planned shift timings is 9:30 - 18:30. Employees should work and complete 9 hrs in a day, but this 9 hours should be counted only from 9:00 (i.e. Begin tolerance time). It means. In time should not consider before 9:00.
    1. Suppose 1st day employee punch In time is 9:00 then he has to work up to 18:00, then only 9 hours of working will be completed & no shortfall will be calculated.
In above case, if Out time is 17:00 then shortfall will be calculated 1.0 hours, because his working hours will be counted 8 hrs only.
    2. Suppose 2nd day employee punch In time is 9:45 then he has to work up to 18:45, then only 9 hours of working will be completed & no shortfall will be calculated.
In above case, if Out time is 18:00 then shortfall will be calculated 0.75 hours, because his working hours will be counted 8.25 hrs only.
    3. Suppose 3rd day employee punch In time is 8:30 then he has to work up to 18:00, then only 9 hours of working will be completed & no shortfall will be calculated. (In between 9:00 - 18:00 ). Here In time is 8:30 but system should consider and count from 9:00.
In above case, if Out time is 17:30 then shortfall will be calculated 0.5 hours, although he has worked 9 hrs.
    4. Suppose 4th day employee punch In time is 10:11 then he will be marked as Late Come(as per DWS) and then he has to work up to 19:11, then only no shortfall will be calculated, because he completed 9 hours.
Now the below PCR is calculating Daily Working Hours,
Now the below PCR is calculating Late Coming Hours,
    Overview
I know that use of begin tolerance time is different in from my requirement. Please guide me if this DWS configuration will not work.
As of now system is able to calculate Daily Working Hours (but not from the begin tolerance time), Late coming days and Late coming hours, but shortfall is not getting calculate properly.
Please give me the idea how to write PCR for these requirement, I know that my ZDHR PCR (Daily Working Hours) needs to change or replace to fulfill this requirements.
If you want any other details please let me know.
    Best Regards,
    Deepak

    Hi Sankarsan,
After changing the function PTIP and I used GEN in PAR2, because in PAR3 error was coming.
After the changes PCR is processing as below for three different IN time :
    1. when IN time is 8:45
and in this case, ZES table No Time type is showing which is wrong because he worked from 8:45 to 18:30 it means 9:30 hours (calculation should start from 9:00 am).
    2. when IN time is 9:15
and in this case, ZES table Time type 9002 is showing 9.25 hours which is correct because he worked 9.25 hours.
    3. when IN time is 10:30
and in this case, ZES table Time type 9003 is showing 9.00 hours which is wrong because he worked only 8 hours.
    Pls suggest.
    Best Regards,
    Deepak

  • Flash player 9 for Linux, shows time one hour ahead

Flash player 9 show time one hour ahead on Linux. Has anybody
    seen this behavior?
I want know if there is any fix/workaround for this?
try following code on FP9 on Linux Mozilla. My observation
was it shows time by one hour ahead.
    trace("Current Time "+new Date());
I hope I am not missing something very basic here.

    Can somebody please confirm/deny this.
FP 9 on Linux shows time one hour ahead than the local time.
Try following line with FP9 on Linux
    trace("Current Time "+new Date());

  • Why is the iCloud time one hour behind Exchange?

When I'm sending calendar invites from my Outlook 2010 on Exchange 2003 Central European Time to an iCloud Account, the invite appaers in the iCloud account one hour too early.

Daylight savings are managed on both systems automatically.
It does not matter if I receive the invitation on my iPhone, or directly in iCloud.com website. It appears all the time one hour too early.

Sorry, I don't know what to do with the report, but you might want to investigate these options, one by one:
    1. Update all Apps
    2. Disable third-party add-ons one by one (like Kapersky)
    3. Tap this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564
    4. Disable Facebook
    Another user here suggests this:
    1.  In Safari, go to prefences and remove Cookies, then Develop menu, and empty caches.
    2.  Shut down the machine and unplug it for one full minute.  This resets  the SMC.
    3.  Start up in safe mode (hold shift key after hitting power button until you see the apple icon on screen) then go to Utilities folder in Applications and open Disk Utility.  Select Mac HD on left, then Verify Disk.  When Verify Disk is completed,  click on Verify Permissions.  After completing this step, if any permission problems are listed, click on Repair Permissions.
    4.  Shut down the computer, and start up while holding 4 keys at the same time; Option, Command, P, and R.  Hold these keys down until you hear the computer chime twice.  This step resets the PRAM.
Oh, and check back in here with your results. That's how we know what worked and what didn't.
