Burn to Disc Grayed Out

History: I burned one disc about a month ago and have not burned any since. In that time, I did contract some spyware that kept shutting iTunes down before it fully initialized. Throught the forum, I was able to locate the offending agent and eliminate it.
Now, I went to burn a disc yesterday and the option is grayed out from the menu and burn icon does not appeare in the upper right.
I tried several different song groups, some purchased from iTunes and others I've ripped myself. The problem remained. A full reboot did not fix the problem either.
My CD-RW shows up in iTunes, so that's not the problem either.
Any idea?

Any updates on this thread? The same thing is happening to me and I'm not sure what to do. I've reinstalled, created new playlists, etc. all to no avail. I was able to burn CD's fine a few weeks back and now all of a sudden I don't have the burn disc button and the option is greyed out in the File menu.
Thanks.

    HELP!
Don't have time for detail here, but I know I have prepped the project in every way I should - according to experience with older versions.
    Thanks

    Sue,
You are so right. I finally figured this out myself - feeling a bit foolish, because I "knew" there was no DVD burner there when we bought it (I simply forgot!).
I have saved it as a disc image. Now I'll have to transfer it to a computer that does have a DVD burner (Superdrive). I haven' t done that yet, but will repoprt back if there are any unresolved issues.
I think ricktoronto is right - though I suppose it could be burned to a CD if it weren't so large a file. I don't know if any tech gadgets would play it from CD anyway.
    Thanks.

  • Burn to Disc greyed out in "All My Files"

When I right click on a file in finder in "All My Files" Burn to Disc is greyed out. When I locate the same file in it folder and not in "All My Files" the Burn to Disc is there. Surely this cant be right and isnt very user friendly !

CD-RWs tend to have a lot of problems when used for audio CDs.  I suggest you try the burn again using a CD-R.

  • Can't play PC burned MP3 discs w/out adding to library???

    This is really annoying me...
When I insert an audio cd, an mp3 cd burned with iTunes, or even music files burned as a data cd with iTunes, the disc shows up in my source list, and I can play it without having the songs added to my library.
When I'm done listening, I eject the CD, and it's as if it was never there.
My roommate has all these mp3 discs that he burned on his pc (I think as data discs) that do not show up on the source list.
I usually drag the disc icon to a new playlist in order to listen to it.
I turned off "copy files to iTunes music folder", because I don't want his files on my hard-drive.
But the file names still get added to my library and when I'm done listening I have to go in and delete them all - Major pain in the butt.
Is there a way around this?
Even if I have to use a different app to listen to his discs - that's fine.
I just want to be able to pop in his discs, listen to them, and then pop 'em out when I'm done, without them leaving any 'residue' on my Mac.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dennis

    Just downloaded & tested Audion.
    Perfect!
Does exactly what I want it to do, nice and simple.

  • In iMovie ken burns grayed-out

Ken Burns effect is grayed-out. How can I apply Ken Burns!

Although you cannot permanently remove the Ken Burns effect option, you can set your default to having it off.
You need to apply your settings to a particular photo and then the changes should be the new default.
Drag any photo into the timeline. Select 'show photo settings' and deselect KB effect and update that photo.
Close or hide photo settings. Click on something else. If you don't want the photo in your timeline, delete it.
When you open the 'show photo settings' again, your recent changes should be there.
If this process does not work for you, try deleting iMovie's preference file.
With iMovie closed, go to your Home file(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.imovie.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iMovie will create a new one when you reopen it.
    Reopen iMovie.

  • Photo's out order when burned to disc

Hi, my photo's are in numbered order in the library but when burned to disc are all random,
they have been edited from 3 cards and saved as a smart colllection, how can I get them
to burn in order as library shows them !! thanks steve

You use the Export Dialog by clicking on <Export> bottom - left in the Library Module. See Screen shot:
This will open the Export Dialog. The second section from the top is <File Naming>. Click on the small triangle, see screen shot:
And select <Edit> from the list.
This will bring up the <File name Editor> where you can specify various parameters for renaming. i would suggest that you add sequential numbers in front of the file name to preserve the order of images. In the screen shot below I have selected a sequential number that will go from 1  to 10000 plus the existing file name.
Then click <Done> and <OK> and export your images to a location of your choice.
Since you are a newbie to Lr it would be good if you would watch some of the video tutorials on Adobe's website. Lr is a complex program and without the tutorials you will make mistakes and get frustrated. The links for the video tutorials are on the main page of this forum, to the right where it says <getting Started with Lightroom 4>.
Go to this link http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-lightroom-4/ and at the bottom you will find specific tutorials for exporting.

  • Stream usage button grayed out

In the Compressor manual section "About the H.264 for Blu-ray Disc Encoder Pane" (page 168) it is said:
Stream Usage: Use the Stream Usage pop-up menu to choose how you intend to use the H.264 stream.
Then two options are given: Blu-Ray and AVCHD. The latter intended for burning AVCHD in a standard DVD-burner.
The latter is what I want to do. However, in the pane (did a Save-as on the original setup) this pop-up is grayed out, showing "Blu-ray" apparently shuttting me out from selecting AVCHD.
Can someone tell me why, and how to effectuate a change to AVCHD burning?

What is displayed in stream usage depends on what you select in Job Actions for Output Device. If you select Hard Drive or a Blu Ray Burner, you will see Blu Ray in Steam Usage. If you select a red laser optical drive, you will see AVCHD.
Here, I have AVCHD displayed because I selected my internal DVD burner as Output Device.

    Thanks for the follow up.
From what you wrote, you have Premiere Elements 10. Is that on Windows 7 64 bit or other. For now I will assume Windows 7 64 bit. If version 10 is on Windows 7 or 8 64 bit it is a 64 bit application running in the 64 bit system which makes it possible for full use of the 64 bit resources. That is good news especially when you are trying to take a large project to completion.
You set up the project preset in the new project dialog to match the properties of your source media. That setting directs the program to establish the right space in the Edit Mode Monitor for editing purposes. That project preset also directs the program as to what disc menu set (s, w, or hd) will be available to you in the disc menu section. The project preset also has more subtle effects on the project settings.
What is you plan for exporting your Timeline, export to file saved to the computer hard drive or burn to disc DVD or Blu-ray? Keep in mind that the setting for the project preset do not prohibit variations in the export choice under most conditions. If you post a description of your source media and how you would like to export it, I will offer some very specific guidelines on that.
If you do go the purchased book route, please try for one which is specific to your version 10. There has been a marked change in interface starting with version 11. Often principles remain the same from version to version, but features do not. And, I always write "It is very frustrating to be armed with principles when you cannot find a feature."
I suggest that you start with the Premiere Elements 10 Help PDF and then decide what next.

    Also check out
    http://tv.adobe.com/show/learn-premiere-elements-10/
A lot of these links that say version 10, roll over to 11.
Steve Grisetti, the moderator of this forum, writes books on Premiere Elements if you are interested in the purchased book route.
Hope the information above is helpful. Above all do not hesitate to ask if you have questions on your Premiere Elements workflow or need clarification on anything written.
    Thanks.

  • Dual Layer option grayed out in iDVD '08

I have been struggling to get a movie burned for awhile, partly due to learning the software on my new iMac (2.4 GHz 24") and the other part spent learning the size requirement limits for a Dual Layer disc (not sure I have my project trimmed all the way down yet).
I finally have what I think is a finished project, am ready to try to burn it and all of a sudden iDVD will not allow me to select "Dual Layer" as an option in the Project Info dialog (the option is locked on single layer and grayed out). I tried rebooting and that made no difference. The drive is the built-in DL burner.
This is a new problem as I have been able to make this selection in the past. Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.
    -John

Is your project over 60 mins. but under 120 mins.? You'll have to address the project info window like this:
You should have an option available to you under DVD Type to select DL as opposed to SL. If it's grayed out, quit iDvd and and relaunch the app again. You may have to do this more than once (assuming you are using the correct media and that your mac sees the appropriate DL burner).
Plus you must select the appropriate media when burning to DL. I recommend using Verbatim or Maxell while troubleshooting on this forum. Thereafter you can choose whatever works best for you and your mac.
In addition, please read the following from the iDvd08 Getting Started pfd:
    Checking the Project Info Window
DVD projects can take up a lot of space on your hard disk, and it’s useful to know when
you need to make more room. In addition, a DVD disc has a maximum capacity. As
you’re working on your project, monitoring its size will ensure that everything fits.
The Project Info window, shown below, provides all this information and more.
To check the size of your project:
m Choose Project > Project Info.
Â The total size of your project, in running time (in minutes) and in size (in megabytes
or gigabytes), shows below the Capacity meter on the far right.
Â The Capacity meter shows how much of your project’s total size is used by each of its
elements. The bands of color indicate what proportion of the project each element
    accounts for.
Â The numbers below DVD-ROM, Slideshows, Menus, and Movies specify how much
space (in gigabytes) each uses. When you click these numbers, the display switches
to show the number of these items in your project and how many tracks they use. An
iDVD project can have up to 99 tracks.
DVD-ROM refers to the content you’ve specified to be added to the DVD-ROM
portion of your burned DVD. The running time and size figures that appear below
Menus reflect the total duration of all the menus in the project. You can have a total
of 15 minutes of motion, such as video on buttons or in the background, in all
menus. A project can include up to 99 menus.
In general, the amount of content your iDVD project contains correlates to the quality
of your burned DVD, given the encoding setting you have chosen. The white arrow in
the Capacity meter points to the quality of your burned DVD. Quality is highest on the
green portion of the Quality meter. If you have chosen Best Performance as your
encoding setting, the entire Quality meter may be green.
Hope this helps but if not come on back.

I have an olde iMac that once I have an older iMAC that once burned CD's with no issues. Now I get an error message saying "The attempt to burn a disc failed. The device is not accessible, probably because it was removed". I have never had it touched so the device was not removed. Please advise as to what could be the problem. How to fix. Thanks

Try resetting the SMC and PRAM first, if that doesn't help try a cleaning disc.....and then buy an inexpensive external burner. Slimline super drive failures are all too common.
    To reset the SMC
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • HT3275 Tried to use TM for the first time.  Can't get it to scroll back at all - everything is grayed out.

I can scroll through the dates.  They highlight and expand when I scroll through them; some gray (local) and some magenta (on my backup disk).
But nothing at all happens when I click, right click, or double click on ANY earlier date.  The back/forward arrows in the lower right are also grayed out and without function.
I tried it with and without the backup disk attached (just trying to recover a file that I goofed up this morning, so last night is fine.)
I did NOT set any files to be excluded from backup, except for the backup disk itself.  The backup disk is FAR away from being loaded; 43 GB out of 500.
    Any ideas?

OK, I may have figured out my problem, since jakeloveslucy steered me to the Time Machine Preferences panel.
I use my MacBook for business, and I travel a lot, so I have FileVault turned on, and I make a fresh backup last thing before each trip, just in case the MacBook gets lost, damaged or stolen. (Duh.)
When I went to the "Select Drive" part of the Preferences Panel and selected my Firewire external drive, it said:
"FileVault is turned on for one or more user accounts on this computer. Time Machine backs up home folders protected by FileVault only when the users who own those home folders are logged out.
You can’t browse or restore individual items of a home folder encrypted by FileVault in the Time Machine backup. To restore all files and folders from this type of backup, start up from a Mac OS X Install disc and select “Restore System From Backup” from the “Utilities” menu in the Installer."
As I read that, since I'm the only user of this machine, I can only back up when I'm logged out (?!), and I can only recover with a full backup, not individual files.
So Time Machine is useless if you use FileVault to protect your data?  Please, someone, confirm or deny!

  • Receiving "internal error" when trying to burn mp3 disc from playlist

I'm trying to burn an mp3 disc from a playlist that I've created. Unfortunately, I keep getting an error. I'm currently running iTunes 11.0.2 on my iMac which is currently running 10.8.3.  I've done this many times before, and this is the first that I've had this problem. Here's the error I keep getting:
The attempt to burn a disc failed. An internal error occured.
If you want to retry the current failed burn, click on Retry. If you want to go to the next disc burn, click on Next. Otherwise click on Cancel.
    Here's how it goes down:
I've created a very long playlist which will require the use of multiple discs.
I right-click on the playlist and select to burn the playlist to disc.
I then get the usual burn settings pop-up menu where I select the "MP3 CD" format with a preferred speed of "Maximum Possible"
Note: Since experiencing this error, I have tried varried speeds ranging from 8x to 24x; I still get the error.
Note Also: I have tried selecting "Audio CD" instead, and the playlist will burn and the error does not appear. This is not an option I want to go with, however, because of the length of the playlist — it would take, like, 25 discs...
For a moment iTunes will read the disc, then ask permission for the playlist to be split across multiple discs. I say "ok".
At this point, iTunes will say that it is initiallizing for about a split second then immediately say it's finalizing and spit out the disc. This is when the error pops up.If I select to "Retry", it doesn't retry to burn; it just saves a .txt file to my desktop that is  a copy of the error message. There's no error code/number or anything, though - just the exact same message. "Cancel" and "Next" seem to behave correctly, though.
I have tried repairing disk permissions and restarting my computer. I've also tried using different brands of CDs: Memorex CD-R and Innovera CD-R. The error persists.
Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    Hi rossfrombluffton,
Welcome to the Support Communities!  The resource below provides some general things to consider when burning a disc with iTunes.  I would also try burning a music CD and a data disc from a different application in the Windows OS and trying a different brand CD just to confirm the issue is not with the optical drive.
Can't burn a CD in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-ae/HT203173
Find out what to do if you can't burn an audio CD using iTunes for Windows. Sometimes an audio disc may not burn as expected. Here are some things to check.
    Update iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes for Windows.Check for unauthorized songs
iTunes will stop burning a disc if you purchased one or more of the songs in a playlist from the iTunes Store and the songs aren't authorized to play on your computer. This message should appear: "Some of the files can not be burned to an audio CD. Do you still want to burn the remainder of this playlist? For more information on why some files can not be burned, click below."
To find out which songs aren't authorized, play each song in the playlist. Songs that play are authorized. Songs that don't play aren't authorized. You'll be asked to authorize any unauthorized songs.Make sure your playlist will fit on a single CD
If there are too many songs in a playlist to fit on a single CD, iTunes should ask if you want to burn multiple discs or cancel the burn. This message should appear: "The songs in this playlist will not fit on one Audio CD. Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them? This will require more than one blank CD to complete."
If you click the Audio CDs button, the burn will continue and you'll be asked to insert blank CDs until the playlist is completely burned. If you click cancel, the burn will be canceled.
To make the playlist shorter so that it will fit on a single CD, select a song to remove from the playlist and choose Edit > Clear. Repeat this step until the duration of the playlist is between 60 and 80 minutes. The duration appears at the top of the playlist window. Most CD-R discs can hold 60 to 80 minutes of music.
Check how many times you've burned the playlist
An unchanged playlist that contains songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be burned no more than seven times.Additional steps and submitting feedback
