Burn to dvd not working

I am new to Final Cut Pro. I created a project, then burned it to a dvd with no problem. I later edited the project, then tried to burn that to a dvd and it will not burn.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong. With the project selected, I insert the DVD and wait for Finder to recognize it. I then go to Share>Burn DVD. I used the default settings both times as far as I know. There has to be a setting or something that I am missing. I am using a new DVD with nothing on it, not the same one as the first time.

Like I mentioned earlier, I am waiting for the DVD to be recognized in Finder. It did allow me to export it, then burn it to a dvd in finder. I think it is in .mov format though. Is that ok? I need this to be able to be played in Macs and in PCs.
Sounds like you made a data DVD, not a video DVD that will play in a DVD player or in a computer optical drive. (And I had read your initial post to mean that your disk was recognized in the Finder.)
If you do want a video DVD, then use Share>Burn DVD. If you want a data DVD, export a movie…using say, the Mac & PC setting in Apple Devices and then burn it in the Finder.
But I'm getting ahead of myself…which kind of DVD do you want?

  • Burn/Dodge tool not working

I have Adobe Photoshop Elements 9.
When using it earlier, I discovered that the burn tool would not work, no matter how i adjusted its settings. I also found out that the image was in Greyscale mode, which I manually changed to RGB mode. I hadnt changed it to Greyscale mode so I dont know how it came to be that way. I wonder if there is another mode it needs to be in for the burn tool to work?
Another point, once i changed it to RGB mode, i tried the burn tool on another color and it was working. It will not work on the gray part of the image im working with. Really not sure why that is...

It seems that the transparency was the problem, somehow.
I saved the file as a JPG and re-opened it in Photoshop, and the burn tool worked.
    bah.
    Thanks though.

  • Windows 8.1 DVD not working

Microsoft removed the ability to play DVD's in Windows Media Player in Windows
    8. You can download the free VLC
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.html player or spend some money to
enable the Feature Pack which will enable playback in Windows Media CENTER but
    not Windows Media PLAYER.
Windows 8.1 pro has Media Center/  Windows 8.1 does not and Microsoft req an upgrade to the pro.  I found that the file above allows me to watch DVDs.  I have attempted to ts with HP, my harddrive and DVD have been replaced and I was still not able to watch or burn   Any DVD or CD put in drive was rebooting my PC...  I dl VLC and now I can play DVD, still not able to burn.   Just thought the above info would be helpful to your tech you now have.  Years ago Hp use to have  a very good support center.

What HP system SKU did you purchase?  There are patches to get back these features if you have switched your HDD out.

  • GTK burning application (graveman not working insinde)

    Well,
I'm in troubles with graveman for past few months, so I searched for a replacing application. It must burn CD/DVD and have a GTK frontend (not gnome-dependant). A graveman working ^^ (all my burns fail at the end, CD or DVD)

I was having the same problem with graveman, never really investigated. You could try xfburn-svn, I'm not sure how far along it is at this moment though.

  • DVD not working.

I burned a DVD I made that had videos from iMovie but the DVD is not working. The DVD is in 16:9 and in a 7.0 theme. The iMovies are 960x540 (and 1280x720 which didn't work either.) I burned one DVD with only 960x540 (.mov) movies and another DVD with only 1280x720 movies but neither of them worked. The main DVD menu doesn't even show up. The CDs I used are DVD-R. Anyone have any suggestions on how it can work?? I'm completely stuck.

    Hi
In iMovie ? No - can't figure how that would work.
*Play all resp one chapter at a time in iDVD*
    Play All Button
    1. There are NO - Play All - button in any version of iDVD
    2. It can be faked in several ways
    • Easies and most fault proof way is to make a doublet movie containing All and with
Chapters set to match. It will take up x2 space but is easy to understand and produce.
    • It's said that one can put all movies into a Photo/SlideShow and this will also
give the function of a Play All button - Never tested though.
    • Using another program to do this eg. Roxio Toast™ where there ia a Play All button option.
    Mike Evangelist1
You might be able to get close to what you want by using a slideshow in iDVD. (It's not widely known, but you can put videos in a slideshow.) If you set the slide duration to manual, playback will pause after each movie/slide, and you can continue with the 'next' button.

  • DVD not working but works in Sim

My project was completed in Final Cut and exported in Compressor. Imported all assets into Studio Pro and after setting all required settings, I burned the DVD. The DVD will play for 28:30 then freezes. The simulator works beautiful with viewing all the way through. I have tried completely rebuilding the project twice in studio pro but to no avail I get the same result 28:30. I have another sequence in the same final cut program and that one stops at 5:03. I am running out of time for this project and need to get it out the door.

Where does the final DVD fail? Set top DVD Player? or DVD Player Application on the computer?
Did you try just opening the Video_TS folder with DVD Player Application prior to burning it (i.e. from the hard drive)?
If it works on the computer, but not on a set top player, then you probably have too high a bit rate at the point where it fails. What settings did you use in Compressor? Another possibility is bad media but if you tried it several times and it fails the same place each time, that's not very likely.

  • Tried to transfer 8mm tapes to mac, then burn to disc, not working???

    test

    Hi
Where in the process did it go awry ?
You know that a DVD can be burnes in at least two fasions ?
Data-DVD - as Yo make when You store files on a DVD on DeskTop/Finder - then Burn on Eject - or -
Video-DVD - as any Movie-DVDs to be played on any DVD-Players - THIS ONE REQUIRE a DVD Authoring Program as iDVD, Roxio Toast, Burn or alike. It can not be made wothout this.
In FinalCut Pro X - You can Share/Export as a Video-DVD - but it's just that this program got integrated with FCP-X.
If You want a Video-DVD then
    • You need a DD authoring program
    • Video DVDs are much more picky in DVD brand quality used - I only use Verbatim
    • DVD type matters - DVD+/-RW usually DO NOT WORK - DVD+R only plays on newre DVD-players - so I use DVD-R
    • SL-DVD works more often to me than DL-DVDs
    • BURN SPEED - is essential - I never go faster than x4 - most often I use x2
    Just to share some thoughts.
Please describe more if You keep on haveing troubles.

  • Why will a Leopard backup DVD not work on G5.

    A couple of Leopard issues:
1, When I a make a dvd backup of my Leopard dvd using either Disk Utility or Toast it will work fine on the intel but will be spit out of the G5. The G5 cannot make double layer so I must rely on a computer that does! My G4 can make double layer but it is 400 miles away now! When is a copy not a copy?
2, Leopard disk utility repair permissions takes a long long time. It gives the errors discussed on other posts but why such a long time?? By the way, the Diskwarrior site gives some cautions about repairing permissions but does not address the inordinate amount of time, with respect
    to Tiger, issue.
Other than the above and some applications no longer launching or working properly I appear to have two stable systems working. As I have done for years I install a new OS on an external drive, find out what works and what don't and in a few weeks upgrade the main drive. I usually use Supperdupper but found out it does not work on Leopard, a least for me! So I have not yet figured out how to make an archive copy of a Leopard system. Hard drives are like people, they eventually die. I have not tried a restore using Time Machine so I do not have any faith in it yet!

The fact that your G5 cannot make a dl DVD means nothing. I am sure it can read it, and that's all that counts. If you can play a movie on the G5, it can read a dual-layer DVD. You have some other issue there.
I would also point out that not all DVD DL blanks are equal and some machines can only read the + and some only the - types. A homemade dual-layer DVD is not the same as a commercial one.

This is a known "issue" which has been discussed here many times. We do not know why it takes a long time. Only Apple knows.

  • Tiger 10.4.2 Installation DVD Not Working

I a few months ago I had to repair my startup disk (Error: Volume Header needs minor repair).
I rebooted using the 10.4.2 Install DVD supplied with my ibook.
I held down the C key during the restart and continued to hold it down. After about 30 seconds the optical drive stopped spinning and kicked out the DVD. The computer then booted using the startup disk on my hard drive.
I contacted applecare and they sent me out a replacement set of 10.4.2 DVDs. I used them and they worked fine (I only used them once).
After few days ago I encountered the same error on my hard drive (Error: Volume Header needs minor repair). I tried both sets of install DVDs (install disk 1) but the optical drive kicked the DVDs out when attempting reboot.
I called applecare and they advised me to take it into a service centre as it could be the Logic Board playing up.
This morning I thought I would try the install disks again. Whilst the original install disk did not work, the replacement one did and I was able to repair the startup disk on my hard drive.
Can someone please advise me what is going on?
Please note: My ibook reads audio CDs and movie DVDs properly with no problem.
    Many thanks

If I were you, I would bring it in for service, as suggested. If you've got the right disk, and a new one at that, it shouldn't spit it out even if it couldn't startup from it.

  • Replacement install DVDs not working (possible serial number problem?)

I have been sent two sets of Mac OS X install DVDs as my old disk 1 was too scratched by my (now replaced) faulty optical drive.
I asked for a disk 1 and disk 2 replacement and they sent them.
First of all i dont know which is disk 1 or 2 as they arent written on the disk, only "Macbook pro Mac OS X install dvd" and "Mac OS X install dvd"
The first set disk 1 serial number was - 2Z691-5841-A
The second set disk 1 serial num was - 2Z691-5948-A
My ORIGINAL disk 1 serial number is - 2Z691-5967-A
My question is do the serials matter if it is still OS X?
I attempted to install with both these and the Macbook PRo stayed on Grey screen then just spat them both out, where as with my original it goes through the install process (but can not finish due to the scratches)
I called Apple again today when i got them and he said it was the laptop, however i know it isnt as my original disk boots to the install screen where as theirs dont, he said he would send the version of disk with my original serial and see if this works.
So.....does the serial matter? I think he said there are three "versions" of disk 1, and my understanding was you can not use any of these unless it is with that specific version also of macbook pro.
    Thanks

I purchased it directly from Apple on the Apple website.
I told the guy at applecare the number on my original install disk 1 and he said he would send that one.
Then i called again later to ask if they needed the serial of my actual macbook pro, he took it and said it looks like they have already ordered the correct CD.
I HOPE it will be here Friday, waiting yet another week.
If it does not work i cant think of anything, my originml works and the laptop has NOTHING installed on it, free hard drive....soooo all i can think of is taking it to an apple store with ALL the disks they have sent me and see if they know whats going on.

  • How do I, and what do I need to burn a DVD that works in a regular DVD.....

player, I burned a movie I got of of itunes twice to blank DVDs but neither one will play in our DVD player. What am I doing wrong?

If you have a Super Drive in your MacBook, you can use the Disk Utility to make a disk image from an unprotected DVD (for example, one that has been burned before is not copy-protected). As the "format" for the disk image, you can choose "CD/DVD Master". Once you've created a disk image, you can use the Disk Utility again to burn that image to a blank DVD.

  • DVD Studio Pro dvd not working in dvd player

    Hi There,
    I'd really appreciate your help.
I've burnt a dvd using DVD SP - it reads 'formatting succesful' and ejects the disk.
It works on my mac but not on my dvd player - it reads 'disk error'.
Here's the thing: I've burnt it with ToastTitanium and it works on my dvd player.
So it's not the dvds I'm using that's the problem.
I've checked other forums and I've unchecked the box 'lossless linking' - still not working.
    I'm desperate.
    Please help.
    Sean

    Hey Mate,
    Merry Christmas!
Just to be clear, here is a screenshot with a new project with no media, no template, no first play set etc...
And as you can see DVD Standard is greyed out.

  • DVD not working on standalone player

I burned a DVD of a bunch of pictures for my grandmother, and it won't play on her DVD player. It spins and spins and says it can't find the disk. She has a brand new DVD player. Can anyone tell me if I did something wrong when I burned it? The DVD works fine within my computer on my internal DVD player.
    Thanks! ~Serene

I also tried the DVD on another standalone player, and it didn't work there either. So it works on my computer's DVD player, but nowhere else. Do I need to format it another way? I wish iDVD was more specific on this. It doesn't say anything about burning for stand-alones.
There is no formatting issue in iDVD; its purpose is to create DVD's that will play on standard players. I suggested trying another player just as a precaution. Some users have gone through many procedures trying to resolve a problem only to find out that the problem originated in the player.
It is a Memorex DVD+R DL. 8x. I don't really know what that means.
DVD+R and DVD-R are two types of DVD. Read this article for more info. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVD%2BR
I think I burned at max speed.
8x is related to the speed at which the disk can be burned. The veteran posters on these forums recommend a burn speed of 4x or lower.
Even though your DVD plays correctly on your computer, it is possible that your disk has errors resulting from the burning process. The advice in Bengt's post has many useful tips on how to avoid these errors.
