Burned Audio Cds won't play

Here's an issue I've been having, similar to some I've seen here, but different enough to need more help.
When I burn an audio cd with iTunes, the process seems to go fine. My Mac can play it. However, cd players can't read the discs iTunes produces. Yes, I have selected Audio cd, not mp3 or data cd. The issue remains for multiple cd players which have proven to be able to play burned cd's from non-iTunes sources. I've tried different brands of cds, and they have all been of the CD-R variety, not CD-RW. Players which can read mp3 cds are fine with the mp3 discs iTunes produces, so it's just the Audio cd option which is problematic.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanx!
-INS

I don't understand it either. I tried the process three times always with the same results: an unplayable disc. The CD I downloaded was an ordinary CD borrowed from the library. I have my iTunes preferences set up to import using the AAC converter and have burned discs successfully before. The Discs I am burning are CD-Rs. Could there be a setting I am missing and it is copying the "data" instead of the music (I'm not sure what that means....) The songs do appear on the burned disc though...It is very frustrating as I need this music for my work.
Any ideas are welcome.

  • ITunes Burns but CDs won't play - why?

Using Leopard, I burn a playlist in iTunes to CD. CD finishes and song tracks are visible, but CDs won't play either in CD player or computer. Why? This just started a few weeks ago. Have burned successfully many times before. Have "Audio CD" selected in preferences, etc. Can anyone help? Thanks a million.

I'm having the same trouble. Used to burn just fine until a little while ago. Now, it just hangs up iTunes in an eternal burn cycle. I try to force quit again & again & again but iTunes just sits there, with the blank disc whirring and spinning inside my machine. Cannot force quit so I have to restart just to quit iTunes. When the CD shows up on desktop (and in iTunes) after restart it looks like a normal, properly burned CD, complete with song titles. But when I play it, it's just erratic digital noise.

  • 7.6.2-burned mp3 CDs won't play in players that 7.5-burned versions did

I have discovered yet another beef with iTunes 7.6.2... does anyone else have this problem?
mp3 CDs burned in iTunes 7.6.2 on my Intel iMac will not play in my car player, while identical mp3 CDs burned in itunes 7.5x on my iBook G4 WILL play in my car player (too bad my main library is on the iMac). The 7.6.2-burned CD's will play in my son's new car player, but not mine, which is a couple years older.
What the heck??? Is there some hidden change that now mp3 CDs burned in the newest iTunes will only play in some kinds of players, whether or not the players are all marked as mp3 compatible?
What does anyone know about this issue?
Because i have to decide whether to buy a new car stereo, or deinstall 7.6.2 and go back to some earlier version (i really don't like to navigate iPod menus while driving, i prefer CDs, so using an iPod instead isn't a good solution for me). or is it the intel iMac that is causing the problem? It doesn't matter what burner or user account i use- i tried an external burner, and i tried another user account. The burned files are identical, they aren't an issue.
I am in OS 10.4.11 on the iMac and 10.4.7 on the iBook, if that makes any difference (frankly, i'm afraid to upgrade the iBook to newest versions at this point).

    Just on a hunch.
Pop one of your 7.6.2 burned MP3 disks in a computer and check if the music is nested in folder by the Artist and Album. Then do the same with one of your older burned disks.
Some older units will not accept MP3 disks with the media grouped in folders. I found this to be the case on a couple of MP3 capable machines that are just a few years old.
My current version of iTunes (7.7 needed for the iPhone v2) seems to only burn MP3 files nested in folders. I found a machine that had not been updated and was still running iTunes 7.0.2 and burned an MP3 disc with all the files numbered and in the root of the disc.
Also, make some older MP3 units do not like the variable bit rate and may also be choosy about the bit rate is. ie 128 vs 160 vs 320

  • Problem Playing Burned Audio CDs

I was wondering if someone could advise me. I have started burning audio CDs using Itunes, and under preferences for Disc Format, I have chosen audio CD. However, when I try playing the burned CD on a stereo, sometimes it won't start playing right away, and some of the songs seem not to be able to play at all.
    Thanks for any help offered.

  • G5 dual-core won't burn audio CDs

I have a brand new dual-core 2.0 Ghz G5. It won't burn audio CDs that play on any of my dedicated CD players.
The CD players are fine. In fact, I had a PB G4 that I used to burn CDs that play perfectly on all of them up until I got the G5. I have tried three different brands of CD-R media (Sony, Maxell, TDK - all of which worked just fine on the G4) to no avail. I've tried burning from both Toast and iTunes 6.0.1, at speeds as low as 2x. I even did a complete clean install of OS X and tried burning from a fresh user account (with iTunes 5.0.1). Same problem.
Here's what happens: the CD burns "successfully" in iTunes and Toast (no error messages), and it shows up on the desktop and in the iTunes menu and plays fine on my computer. But when I put it into a CD player and press play, it just spins around and around and doesn't ever start playing.
This is incredibly frustrating and I'm not sure what to do at this point. I have contacted Apple but they are hesitant to replace the optical drive. According to them, if it's burning CDs that play on my computer, then the drive is OK. They admitted that it might be more "sensitive" than my Powerbook's drive, and perhaps "incompatible" with my dedicated CD players. I asked them what the point of having a Superdrive is if it won't burn CDs that work on any dedicated CD players... well, the conversation got unpleasant after that.
If anyone has any ideas for how to troubleshoot this, or fix it, I'm all ears!
G5 2.0 dual-core   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   17" Apple LCD, iSight, Bluetooth Keyboard & Logitech Cordless Laser Mouse

I don't have the dual-core but experienced the same thing. I tried to burn a DVD after having my G5 for one year. It didn't burn the disk. I called Apple and no support for G5 not in warranty. I purchased a new DVD burner and didn't have any problems since. The old burner was a Sony, the new one a pioneer DVR 106D.
I recently purchased DL DVR Pioneer drive (DVR DL-110D) and I can't even put a CD in the drive to burn. Worst money I ever spent. Don't know how Apple is on support of the DL drives but I'm going back to the old DVR-106D!

  • TS2289 Audio Track Won't Play

I imported an audio clip yesterday and it worked fine. Today when I opened my project, there was a yellow warning triangle in the top left above the first frame of my movie and the audio track won't play. What should I do?
And where the heck is the "clock buttom"? I wasn't able to follow Apple Support's suggestions because I can't find it.
    Mike

I've adjusted my project according to Brian'statement, so I made all audio tracks and video track the same length, but it still doesn't work when I create the flash file. It plays only 1 audio track, whatever language you choose. It plays the audio track that is"active" in the project. This happens only with the flash. If I burn a DVD, then everything works fine... Am I doing something wrong ?

  • Burning audio CDs - getting "skipping" on playback

Recently when I burn audio CDs from iTunes to my Sony i.LINK drive (CD-RW CRX160E), even after reducing the burn speed to 1X (!!!), some of the tracks are turning out unplayable -- they play with a sort of skipping-like interference. I'm using HP cd-r 52x 700 MB/80min recordable compact discs. Could it be the media? Any other suggestions? This drive has worked fine for years (at "maximum possible speed" setting, in fact). Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Man, this is frustrating (and wasteful).

    D: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-U20N, Rev HX12
I'm pretty sure that's the latest Lenovo-supplied firmware for that drive.
Force Optical Power Calibration before burn is turned on in the preferences.
I wonder if that's our issue? It's not a user-configurable preference (or at least, it never used to be), and it's set to off by default (at least it used to be in older versions of iTunes). But a transient issue might click it to "on", and the setting might now be causing the issue.
We should be able to reset it by rebuilding the iTunes preferences. For the basic technique, see the "Remove iTunes preference files" section from the "User-specific troubleshooting" section of the following document:
[iTunes for Windows Vista or Windows 7: Troubleshooting unexpected quits, freezes, or launch issues|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1717]
Try running your diagnostics again after each rebuild to see whether the Force Optical Power Calibration before burn has been switched off. (I'm afraid I don't know which set of prefs it lives in nowadays.) Once it looks to be reset, try another experimental burn and see if she's still giving the 4450.
*Prior to doing the preference file rebuilds:* Best to make a note of any custom preferences you have set up for your iTunes. (Rebuilding pref files returns preferences to their defaults ... so you'll likely have to set some of those custom preferences up again from scratch.) Also make a note of any third-party plugins/add-ons you have installed. You may have to reinstall those after the rebuilds.
*Things to watch out for during the rebuilds*
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Local\ location causes the iTunes license agreement to run. So you'll need to agree to that again.
Rebuilding the preference files in the \Roaming\ location causes the iTunes Setup Assistant to run. When prompted to do so, *do not* add files to your iTunes library. (Otherwise you'll end up with a library full of duplicates.)

  • Burning audio cds original cd title ..

i am going to try to explain it.
when an original cd is ripped, the titles of the songs are downloaded from CDDB. i am assuming each cd has a id embedded which is used to get the titles of the songs.
is there a way to burn the cd from ripped songs so that its like the original? i can burn a cd from the ripped songs but its missing the id so when used in another computer, its unable to download the names of track.
anyone know how to do this?
    thank you

This is not going to work as you'd wish if you burn AUDIO CDs.
Audio CDs from mp3 or mp4 or AAC are a conversion from a compressed format to an AIFF file (the format of all Audio CDs). Because of the nature of compression, and then reexpansion to Auido format, even though what you hear sounds like the original, the bits (the acutal 0s and 1s) are different such that the CD doesn't cary the same information the original did...both in quality of music, and in some of the hidden points of the disc (there are parts of the disc where information about the disc itself are stored that won't be the same).
The CDDB works by looking at a small part of the discs files, and comparing that info (the music encoded as an AIFF) to a database, looks for a match, then pulls the related song info.
Since you are working with an approximation it can't make the match so you won't get the song info.
You could always burn an MP3/ data disc with the songs on it to transfer them between machines, or burn a disc in the finder with folders of music and all data will transfer with the songs, it is embedded in the songs "metadata".
    Good luck

  • Copying/burning a dvd, won't play in a dvd player

Before my disk drive was replaced I could take a dvd, copy it and burn it to a disc (i.e., make a copy for myself), ad it would pla in my dvd player
Since then when I make a copy of something and burn it, it won;t play in ant DVD player. Will play onthe computer though
What settings do I need to change?

Musicwind is right, there's no way to do what you describe without third-party tools. A commercial DVD, like what you'd be using in a DVD player, cannot be copied using the Finder or Disk Utility, due to copy protection issues. Are you using something like Handbrake to rip the DVD, or is this not a commercial DVD that you're copying?

  • Right audio port won't play. Warranty?

My ipod's right audio exit won't play. I am sure that it is not the earbuds, because I have tried with several others.
The iPod is bought in an Apple Retail store in Cleveland, but i am currently living in Sweden. Does the limited warranty cover this? If so, how do i get in contact with Apple?
    Sincerely
    Ola Bungum

Yes, if you have had it under a year it does. The right earbud is coming more common of a problem, or at least it seems. I do not think that it is pandemic, but does seem to be happening a lot latley. Take it to an apple store, or go here: http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/

  • I have a mid 2007 iMac and the internal superdrive audio cd won't play, the DVD works. Can I purchase an external cd drive that will work with my iMac?

I have a mid 2007 iMac (Model A1224 iMac 7,1) and the internal superdrive audio cd won't play, the DVD works. Can I purchase an external cd drive that will work with my iMac?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Any external optical drive will work with your Mac. If you want an Apple USB SuperDrive, see > http://www.tuaw.com/2012/04/02/use-the-macbook-air-superdrive-with-any-almost-ma c/
The best option is to take the Mac to an Apple Store and get the Mac's SuperDrive repaired

  • IMovie Audio Files Won't Play when the File is Moved

I imported a lot of audio files into iMovie from my desktop and I set them out how I wanted them in my project. But as my desktop was getting too cluttered, I had to move the audio files into a different folder in my documents, but now the audio files won't play and a warning icon is on each audio clip. Is there a simple way to relocate the files, without moving the files back to my desktop and without having to set out my all my audio files all over again?

Besides the two files you mentioned in your post, you also need to upload YOUR .swf as well. Then you need to upload your music file/folder.
Also double check that the path to your mp3 is correct RELATIVE to the location of the Web page that you placed the .swf on, NOT the physical location of the .swf.
    var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest("../Sound/dreamsSound1.mp3");
This needs to be the path from the WEB PAGE to the mp3, NOT the path from the physical location of the .swf.
Once you have the pathing correct, it should NOT work when testing in Flash CS4, because the path to the mp3 needs to be RELATIVE to the Web page.
    Best wishes and Good Luck!

  • Burned CDs won't play after updating to 6.0

After updating to 6.0 and 6.01 the CDs I burn won't play in my car stereo. This was never a problem prior to the updates.
I double checked everything I could think of and am burning them to CD-Rs and have audio CD selected on my burning preferences. I have even tried using several different brands of CD and using a slower burning speed.
    Any ideas?

absolutely nothing. All the controls are normal. When i try to double click a track to play it just highlights the track. When i use the play button, it operates but no track plays. Even in purchased tracks it won't play! There are one or two tracks that will play normally but they are random ones. Have tried the suggestion that are recommended but with no success.
