Burned CD missing Content & Permission Query

Question

Not a techie, so please guide me to help you help me! (Unfortunately, a long-term Windows user, too)
Tried first effort to place files on CD-RW. Used disk utility to do multisessions burn (assuming this meant I could alter/save on cd afterward). Burn noted to be successful but no content showed on it. Pages document changed to a dimmed .dmg file in Pages directory, so no access to original. Clicked on the .dmg and the volume (in disk utility) for it with no content under either. Seems there is 18.1MB used up per info pane?
Desperately need help - document is extremely important and not duplicative!
On another burn note: I did simply burn a test Page document using finder and a new blank CD-RW. Document saved on it, but I cannot change and save it from/to the disc? Info shows I have read/write permission, but then says I don't when I try to change/save it. What am I missing here?

One last try; I made an effort to replicate my problem. Here goes:
I had the "Recording on a recordable CD more than once" and "Creating a blank disk image" instructions. Could not make out how to do steps 1 on either document, so I improvised (stupid mistake):
Inserted Verbatim 2x-4x CD-RW 700MB blank CD
Chose "Open Disk Utility"
Selected "MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846" in sidebar
Clicked "New Image"
Saved As: "Test" (Pages test doc created) under folder "Authorship"/Size:660MB(CD-ROM 80min)/Ecrypted: AES-128(recommended)/Format: Read/Write Disk Image
Clicked "Create"
Entered password and Unchecked "remember password in keychain"
Clicked "OK"
"Test.dmg" in sidebar with volume underneath it indicating: 3 folders/2files/ 647.4MB capacity/629.3MB available/18.1MB used
Selected "Test.dmg" in sidebar and clicked "Burn"
Burn Disc In: MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846 popup showed and chose "leave disc appendable" then clicked "burn"

This time ejected and reinserted CD after burn/verification (thought I did it sooner last time but could not eject it sooner it seems) - did this due to instructions saying to insert it after all these steps, not at start.
Clicked "Burn" (per instructions): (.dmg in sidebar still highlighted) CD ejected with message "Unable to burn 'disk2' - The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry..."
This was when I rechecked everything first and this time by looking at info tabs:
Test.dmg: same as listed before
Volume icon under .dmg:
Mount Point: /Volumes/Test
Format: Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
Owners Enabled: No (thought this was Yes first time??)
Number of Folders: 3
Capacity: 647.3MB
Available: 629.3MB
Used: 18.1MB
Number of Folders: 2
Then closed Disk Utility to check burned CD:
(first time one icon for CD mounted on desktop - this time 2 did?? Maybe I cancelled the "Burn" after reinserting the CD the first time?)
No content showing in finder with it in sidebar under iDisk/Network/Macintosh HD
Then opened Pages to look for original: last time the original was gone with only the faded .dmg in directory. Of course, this time I had both the original still AND the faded .dmg of it. So who knows what was different then vs now.
It makes it seem like I somehow trashed the original, but I am not that untechie! I even wondered this the first time and downloaded the demo of Boomerang to see if I could find the original that way (as it said you could see the files available if the program was purchased, and it wasn't there, yet another .dmg file was there?)
Please tell me this clears up the issue somehow... :\
