Burned CD's won't play - wrong extension

I've burned three CD's. None will play. At first I realized I was burning data instead of music. When I drag music to my burner, it says it's the wrong extensions. Still no music to play... What am I doing wrong? I've paid for music I can't listen to except on the computer.

hi Suzanne!
just checking. does this seem to be what's going on?

  • Copying/burning a dvd, won't play in a dvd player

Before my disk drive was replaced I could take a dvd, copy it and burn it to a disc (i.e., make a copy for myself), ad it would pla in my dvd player
Since then when I make a copy of something and burn it, it won;t play in ant DVD player. Will play onthe computer though
What settings do I need to change?

Musicwind is right, there's no way to do what you describe without third-party tools. A commercial DVD, like what you'd be using in a DVD player, cannot be copied using the Finder or Disk Utility, due to copy protection issues. Are you using something like Handbrake to rip the DVD, or is this not a commercial DVD that you're copying?

  • ITunes Burns but CDs won't play - why?

Using Leopard, I burn a playlist in iTunes to CD. CD finishes and song tracks are visible, but CDs won't play either in CD player or computer. Why? This just started a few weeks ago. Have burned successfully many times before. Have "Audio CD" selected in preferences, etc. Can anyone help? Thanks a million.

I'm having the same trouble. Used to burn just fine until a little while ago. Now, it just hangs up iTunes in an eternal burn cycle. I try to force quit again & again & again but iTunes just sits there, with the blank disc whirring and spinning inside my machine. Cannot force quit so I have to restart just to quit iTunes. When the CD shows up on desktop (and in iTunes) after restart it looks like a normal, properly burned CD, complete with song titles. But when I play it, it's just erratic digital noise.

  • Burned DVD-R won't play in domestic DVD player

Why a DVD-R i burn won't play in a common domestic DVD player, even the most recent and good quality ones ? Is there something else i should do before burning ?

How did you burn it? If you dragged the files to the dvd in finder and then hit burn it won't play in a dvd player, but if you used iDVD it should work.

  • Burned itunes CD won't play on external players!!

I recently purchased music from itunes, created a playlist, then burned onto a CD. It will play back in the itunes player and it even shows the tracks, but won't play on any other CD players or even on my windows media player( player 10 napster)! When I tried to play on another player all it showed was #1 and then went to #15 with the time of 68 min. which is what I burned but no sound available. I did do sound check before burning. Can anyone help me? Thanks Reddox2

How did you burn the disk, as a data disk or as an audio CD (check your Burning preferences in iTunes)? If you burned the disk as a data disk, that's essentially just a backup and will only play in iTunes. You have to burn the disk as an audio CD to play it in any other player.
    Hope this helps.

  • Many File Types dragged to iDVD, burned to DVD, won't play on DVD player

I have made a recording on Camtasia (video, pictures and audio). My goal is to make it into a DVD that plays on standard players. Any format I have saved the file to is not working.
Here's what I have done so far:
From Camtasia I have selected Advanced Export and saved it as a MPEG4. Then learned that MPEG are not recognized by many DVD players.
Then I did an Advanced Export and saved the file as Quick Time. Moved it into iDVD, burned the disk and again the disk won't play on either of my DVD players.
I have done another Advance Export and saved the file as an AVI but now only the first 3 minutes of a 30 minute video are being captured.
I know everyone can appreciate that each of these burn processes take a lot of time. I am doing them only to be disappointed (aggravated) that they won't playing on my DVD players (I have tried two). I am using Verbatim DVD +R.
If someone uses Camtasia and iDVD that would be ideal. But at this point, I'd also be willing to try another program just to get the job done.

    Hi Vicadea
Welcome to apple discussions. I've never tried Camtasia for Mac. Apparently it's not working very well for you even when you export as a QuickTime movie. I don't know what to say other than it seems like fairly pricey screen capture software ($299) just to have it not work as you expected on multiple attempts.
For much less money and much more reliable results I'd recommend the following for screen capture instead:

Hope this helps but if not just come on back. Good luck.

  • CDs burned using iTunes won't play in CD Players!!?!!

    Hey Folks,
The first song or two will play or have bad sound quality, but after that the cd freezes up and won't play anymore. This happens with the cd player in both of my cars and on my home stereo. I use a lite-on 52X and I can't figure out what's going on with it. Has anyone else experienced this or has a solution for it.
    Thanks.

I am having the same problem, but have no answer as to the cure.

  • DVD burned in tiger won't play on panther

    Hi,
I have an iMac G5 with Tiger (10.4.2) in it. I just burned a DVD there and it plays fine on that computer and on my home DVD player.
However the DVD won't mount on my Flat Panel iMac G4 w/SuperDrive running Panther (10.3.9).
I have the latest software updates on both computers.
Has anyone come across this problem? Any solutions?
What other compatibility problems do I expect with this DVD?
I used to use the G4 for making DVDs that played on the G4 iMac, the G3 iBook, and other PCs. Will this DVD now work on all those other computers or is it only compatible with Macs running Tiger or worse yet, only G5 computers?

uh, chase, I think you're in the wrong forum.

  • Burned purchased iTunes won't play on external player

Granted this is elementary, but I thought we could burn songs purchased from iTunes to a CD to play in an external player. Was this wrong? If not, what needs to be done to get them to play?

  • CD burned on iTunes won't play anywhere else??

I am desperate. My daughter's dance school teacher burned us two different CDs of her performance music using iTunes and I can't get it to play anywhere. The song was one she ripped from a CD, not an iTunes purchase if that makes a difference.
When I look at the disc in Windows Explorer, all I see is a 1KB .cda file. Every other song on my PC is at least 4K-5K KB, so it doesn't even seem like it's an actual song, it looks like a shortcut. When I open it in Windows Media Player, it shows a song that is 3 minuts long and looks like it is playing, but I can't hear any sound. It doesn't play in a regular CD player at all.
What is weird is that the teacher can play it in a CD player that she uses for class (which also is a doc for an iPod, which I think is the difference). A classmate's parent can also get it to play in their car, which is also strange, and I don't know if their car sound system also has an iPod connection.
I have no idea the exact details of the teachers PC, except that it is a brand new laptop she got at Best Buy - the Black Friday deal where you could get a laptop for $200.
I really need this music for her to rehearse, it's an old song that I can't find anywhere on line (and the teacher can't seem to find the original CD), and the teacher just wants to give me my money back!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE - Can anyone offer me any suggestions as to what is happening and guidence that I can provide her on how to make it work?

I was tired of all the extraneous email that did fit my question. hope this stops the flood of emails.
No, it won't. You need to Unsubscribe from all the topics you subscribed to.
    Click here -> http://discussions.apple.com/editwatches!default.jspa
Insert the CD and Control -CLick it and Get Info & see what kind of a CD (audio or data) it is.
Aslo, many CD players will not work with CD-RW but will work with CD-R.

  • 7.6.2-burned mp3 CDs won't play in players that 7.5-burned versions did

I have discovered yet another beef with iTunes 7.6.2... does anyone else have this problem?
mp3 CDs burned in iTunes 7.6.2 on my Intel iMac will not play in my car player, while identical mp3 CDs burned in itunes 7.5x on my iBook G4 WILL play in my car player (too bad my main library is on the iMac). The 7.6.2-burned CD's will play in my son's new car player, but not mine, which is a couple years older.
What the heck??? Is there some hidden change that now mp3 CDs burned in the newest iTunes will only play in some kinds of players, whether or not the players are all marked as mp3 compatible?
What does anyone know about this issue?
Because i have to decide whether to buy a new car stereo, or deinstall 7.6.2 and go back to some earlier version (i really don't like to navigate iPod menus while driving, i prefer CDs, so using an iPod instead isn't a good solution for me). or is it the intel iMac that is causing the problem? It doesn't matter what burner or user account i use- i tried an external burner, and i tried another user account. The burned files are identical, they aren't an issue.
I am in OS 10.4.11 on the iMac and 10.4.7 on the iBook, if that makes any difference (frankly, i'm afraid to upgrade the iBook to newest versions at this point).

    Just on a hunch.
Pop one of your 7.6.2 burned MP3 disks in a computer and check if the music is nested in folder by the Artist and Album. Then do the same with one of your older burned disks.
Some older units will not accept MP3 disks with the media grouped in folders. I found this to be the case on a couple of MP3 capable machines that are just a few years old.
My current version of iTunes (7.7 needed for the iPhone v2) seems to only burn MP3 files nested in folders. I found a machine that had not been updated and was still running iTunes 7.0.2 and burned an MP3 disc with all the files numbered and in the root of the disc.
Also, make some older MP3 units do not like the variable bit rate and may also be choosy about the bit rate is. ie 128 vs 160 vs 320

  • Burned dvd-r won't play in external players

I just upgraded from an iMac G5 to a Power Mac. I was using DVDSP on my iMac and never had any problems burning. I recently burned a small project from DVDSP onto the same exact DVD-R media that I've always used (Memorex) and went to play it on the same exact external DVD player that I've always used (Toshiba), and the DVD wouldn't play. I also tested it out on my friend's sony dvd player, and it also wouldn't play. It plays fine on my computer. I used the same exact settings that I did on my iMac (field order:bottom; two pass VBR; max bit rate of 8.2; "Best"). Out of curiosity, I also tried burning a dvd from iDVD, and that also wouldn't play on the external players. I then tried burning an audio CD from iTunes (again, using the same exact settings and same exact media and external CD player), and the CD wouldn't play, except on my computer. I even tried burning the CD at a lower speed (8x), but that made no difference.
I took it into the Apple store, and they replaced the optical drive. However, as I suspected, that did not solve the problem at all. So here I am having just "upgraded" to a Power Mac from a perfectly good iMac, and I have lost all functionality of these programs. I believe it is an issue with Tiger, since I did not have Tiger on my iMac. I did download the Pro Application Support 3.0 when I first got the power mac, which I thought was supposed to solve problems that people were having under Tiger.
I have also read people's entries here which suggest using Toast to burn with. Honestly, I don't see that as a solution, unless Apple starts including it with their systems. These programs (DVDSP, iDVD, iTunes) all have their own burn functions which are supposed to work. And they did work on my iMac, without fail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I used the same exact settings that I did on my iMac (field order:bottom; two pass VBR; max bit rate of 8.2; "Best").
It sounds like you have some other issues going on since nothing is working properly it sounds like, usually first thing to check is that bit Rate which is high, but it sounds like nothing is working
Have you tried reparining permissions after the updates? Have you tried making a new user/account and see if that works? Which version of Tiger? Is this a new Power Mac or an older one (in other words is somehow the burner not rated for the media you are using? That one is a stretch....) How about RAM, any after market RAM (like buy a Mac get 512 Meg upgrade) sometimes that RAM is buggy and can cause issues, though never heard of this happening

  • DVD burned from img won't play in other players

In order to back up an old DVD I had to protect it from damage, I ripped it with handbrake and encoded it as a diskimage via iDVD. As the movie was 1.5 hours in length I used the professional setting under project info. After approximately 12 hours of encoding the disk image finished. I can open the disk image with DVD player on the mac and it performs perfectly. I used the disk utility to burn the disk image to a Memorex DVD+R without incident. This morning I tried the burned DVD in my xbox360 which read it as a mixed media disk and would not play it. Next I tried in my sony blu ray player which read it as a photo disk with no photos on the XMB.
What do I need to do to have the burned DVD work properly? Are the DVD+Rs bad or is it something with the encoding? Thanks in advance for your help. I am a pretty big novice to iDVD and the whole process.

To create an image file, launch Disk Utility and select File: New: Disk Image From Folder. In the window that appears, navigate to the desired folder (the DVD) and then click on Image. Give the image file a name, and click on Save when prompted. That’s it.

  • DVD's burned in OZ won't play in the US

I have burned multiple DVDs in both PAL and NTSC format and they all play on my multi system TV at home (in Australia) however they don't seem to work for relatives I have sent them to in the States. I have sent them to multiple people as well and they all complain that it plays for a little while (about 5 mins) and then stops, sometimes complaining of a scratched DVD, other times with no message at all. I have given the same DVDs in PAL format to people in Australia and none of them have had any problems.
My initial reaction was that it must be a region code thing, however a quick search has found that iDVD doesn't even have the ability to burn DVDs with a region code.

I have no problems burning CD's on my iMac but the resulting disc does not play properly in 2 cars. The CD's will play on my domestic CD player but in the cars the first tracks are OK but the later ones break up. This seems to be a problem with my iMac as previously using an external CD burner I had no problems.

Did you use CD-R as opposed to CD-RW?
