Burned CD Will Not Play in Car

I burned a cd in iTunes and it will play on my home cd but not in the car. I've burned other cds on my old computer using Toast, also CD-R, and they play in the car just fine. My Preferences are set at audio cd, I double checked and ended up burning a second cd which also won't play in my car, just to make sure I'd done it right the first time. What the heck is going on?

In my experience car CD-players are more picky than home CD-players, when it comes to a certain combination of burner and CD-R brand.
My over 10 year old home CD-player plays every CD I burned, but my car CD-player rejects some brands.
From your first post I understand that burning CDs on your 'old' computer didn't give problems.
Maybe trying another well known brand (Sony or TDK) will solve the problem burning CDs with your 'new' computer.
Don't use cheap 'white-label' CD-Rs. They lead often to disappointment, when burning an audio CD.
Also don't use CD-RW and CD-Rs especially designated for music. The latter do cost more and often don't play on car CD-players.
The above is from my own experience and doesn't have to be a general experience.

  • Burned disk will not play on car cd player

A cd-rw disk, burned on my compaq presario as a simple cd audio disk, works on the computer and on some home systems i've tried, but will not work in the car cd player ( tried more than one car cd player )... what's the problem?
thanks in advance for the help .

Burned CDs that won't play in my '97 Chrysler WILL play in my '02 Toyota. I agree with the response regarding the specs of the players being used.

  • Burned CDs will not play in car

New MacBook Pro and now I cannot get music CDs to play car.

Are you implying that your burned discs from old Mac products played in your car before?  Are you using stickers/labels on the discs that you're trying to play in your car?  Will the first tracks play, but not the later tracks on the CD?

  • ITunesBurnt CD will not play on car CD

I download iTune. Burn to CD and it burns as a iTune which will not play on car CD or any other cd machine. Can anyone help?

I don't understand what you did. Did you burn songs to a CD, which should work, or just downloaded iTunes, the program, and burned to a CD. If it is downloaded, it will be good in case you lose the installed program, and for nothing else.
I assume that you installed iTunes. Please, explain a bit better what you did.

  • Burned CD will not play on a computer

I've discovered that CDs that I have burned will not play on a computer (Mac or PC), while they play perfectly fine on a CD player (in the car, boombox, etc). I have the latest version of iTunes, and I use CD-R discs. What the heck is going on?

Try different brands of CD_R media. Also check speed of your cd burner and set burn speed in I-Tunes to match instead of maximum possible, If that doesn't work try a slower burn speed. Also do not run other programs while burning. Check your Cd on other players to make sure that is not the problem. I-tunes gives very few parameters to chose from so it is hard to do anything wrong in the program settings.

  • DVD Studio Pro will burn but will not play on dvd player.

    Hi,
I have a 30 minute dvd with a menu that i burned yesterday. it will play on my mac but not our dvd player or any of our Pc's. I have a quickly approaching deadline and guidance would be appreciated.

HD DVDs will only play on Macs and a couple of now obsolete Toshiba HD DVD players.
Since DVD is a standard definition only format, you will need to create a regular DVD if you want it to play on regular DVD players or on Windows systems.

  • Burned discs will not play on home stereo

I have recently discovered that since December of 2009, all the discs I have burned of my iTunes purchases do not play on my home stereo CD player (Sony 300 disc jukebox). They still play on my Mac G5 desktop (OS 10.4.11) with iTunes v9.1. Discs I burned before December 2009 still play on my CD player. What's strange is that if I put the disc in my iMac Intel G5 (OS 10.6.3) and reburn the disc on that machine, they do play on the CD player. Also, discs I can burn on the G5 desktop with Toast play fine. Was something changed in iTunes around December, 2009 that would affect my burning in this way? Thanks for any input...

Did you accidentally select a data CD or an MP3 CDin your burn preferences, instead of an Audio CD?

  • Burned cd will not play in other cd players?

I am using cd-r cds and they appear to burn from my itunes but, then they do don play in other cd players ie the car etc. Can not figure it out.

The brand can make a difference. If you know your CD player can handle CD-R's--but some simply won't play, then trying a different brand is a good idea. You might want to avoid the bargin brands--if your player has trouble reading some disks.
One thing that I've noticed over time is that these homemade CDs don't hold up very well. I have some mix CDs that I made about four years ago. They played fine for a few years, but now they skip and don't work anymore. Cleaning them doesn't help--and they aren't scratched--sooooo I'm wondering if there is a limited shelflife for a computer burnt CD that you use frequently.

  • Burned CD will not play on CD player

I have successfully burned a music CD on a CD-R that plays on the computer. I put it in a CD player and it played once but when I tried to replay it again the player would not recognize the disk. I burned a second disk and the player would not recognize it at all. I record at 4x on audio. Any ideas?

  • Discs burned from iTunes 10.1 will not play on some Sony CD players

I'm having a problem with 32 bit iTunes 10.1 (on Windows XP sp3) where burned discs will not play on my Sony CDP355 or CDP400 carousel CD players but will play on a Sony CDP455. Discs burned with earlier versions of iTunes used to work fine with these players (I think). Also, these "incompatible" players did not recognize the disc as one containing CD text. In fact, they would not read the disc at all.
My friend running 64 bit iTunes 10.1 on a Windows 7 machine doesn't have this problem with discs she burns. They will play OK on those exact same players.
Burned files seem to play OK on most of my other CD players and I have confirmed the files are CDA format files (not MP3).
I had selected MAXIMUM SPEED, AUDIO and INCLUDE CD TEXT in my burn settings.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for this suggestion. I reduced the burn speed to 12X (my burner is 48X maximum) and made another copy. It works just fine. I'll experiment with higher speeds later but for certain the 12X speed solved the problem.

  • Connect to car, IPOD Classic pauses and will not play

    Hello to all,
First of all I am not very good at computer stuff. I used my IPOD Classic for about three months with a car kit and all was fine. All of a sudden it stopped playing. I figured out that the IPOD pauses when it is connected to the wire from the car. I have tried connecting it with the car off, on, radio off, on all with the same result, as soon as the IPOD detects the wire it pauses. My radio will only play the IPOD not control it. Any ideas?? This is driving me mad. I don't understand why it worked for months and then suddenly stopped. Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm having the same problem. I updated my ipod in itunes and now my car's usb deck will not recognize the ipod. It had been working for years without a problem. I emailed kenwood and they said apple pushed out an update that is causing compatibility issues with car decks. They suggested a "soft reset" which did nothing. Kenwood told me to contact Apple and Apple wants me to pay for support. Guess I'll surf around this forum till I find a way to revert back to an older version of the ipod software.
    Here's the thread from kenwood:
    Dear Mr. Lapteff,
Thank you for contacting Kenwood USA Corporation. We value you as a Kenwood customer and appreciate the opportunity to be of assistance.
I understand you are having an issue with playing back your Ipod. If you recently updated your Ipod to the newer iOS4 software version we recommend attempting to soft reset the Ipod and attempt reconnecting to your head unit. The available updates from Apple have caused some issues with connectivity. For information on resetting your Ipod we recommend visiting www.apple.com.
Please feel free to contact us again with any additional questions.

I just bought a new mac mini and an external DVD burner. I want to burn a DVD video and it will not play on the TV but only on the computer? Need this figured out for tomorrow. Can anyone help me?

Congratulations on the new Mini. Are you saying you tried burning and it does not play, or do you want to burn it only for the computer to be able to play it?

CDs I burn from my itunes 10 on my macbook with snow lepard will not play in the regular cd player.  How do I burn Cds that will pay in a reg old cd player?

When the computer was new, I had the same issue I have now.  It was new and I could not burn to play on a reg cd player. Today, I can not burn to play on a reg cd player. Inbetween, I could not burn to play on a reg cd player.  I keep giving up and then trying months later.
I have recently made the cds that play on the computer.  I have also tried in the last month to make a dvd copy, it played.  I have gone to people's homes and tried the cd's burned in my computer. They are not recognized.  This last round I have only used the cd-r but have tried many others in the past. I am running out of money to keep buying different brands, kinds, etc.  I figured it must be my lac of knowledge and am trying to get some new here.
    Sincerely,
    Paul

  • IMac will not play the DVD that I have made on imovie and burned on iMac SuperDrive  ?? (DVD plays fine on household DVD player and also play fine in Toshiba laptop ) Why not on the iMac - anyone know???

There are many reasons this could be the case but whether an optical disc can be read or not is a function of:
The reflective media layer of the disc
    Whether the burned disc was a DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW
The brand, model, and production lot of the disc
The specific frequency of the Write lasers that burned the disc
The specific frequency of the Read lasers that are attempting to read the disc
Are the Read lasers in the drive working (it is common for one set of lasers in a drive to fail while others continue to work)
How old are the Write and Read drives (laser frequencies change with age)
Is there dust on the read laser
Is there dust on the read lens
    etc.
At one time it was estimated that fewer than 80% of all burned discs were readable in 90% of the drives. That has, I believe improved over time but at the same time it seems the faillure rate of lasers in the drives has increased but that may simply be the result of how many different read and write lasers there are in today's superdrives. Fortunately todays drives are a lot less expensive the replace -- now that Apple no longer installs optical drives in their computers.
