Burned Cds are very quiet

Hi,
When I have tried to burn my iTunes purchase music onto an audio cd, the cd plays extremely quiet (stereo volume near max just to hear). I do have "Use Sound Check" selected as per iTunes support but that hasn't helped.
One thing that I haved noticed is when I get the info for any of the songs in my iTunes. On the summary tab I have volume: -15.6 db ( or a varying negative number) regardless of the Sound Check option.
Could the negative volume number a possible cause and if so, how do I change that volume setting.
I can't
Thanks,
malonep

After much searching and a LONG visit to the Genius Bar, here's what I got:
The problem:  Despite normal playback in iTunes, the files for these songs have become corrupted, causing the sound to stop when converted to CD audio files and burned to disk.  All other aspects of the file remain intact; thus, each song's "space on the disk" is still intact...it's just silent.  This probably happened when the PC I copied the files from had a HD failure.
The solution:  Delete and download again, or re-copy from the original CD--whatever you need to do to make a new file for the song on your HD.

The article will walk you through reinstalling iTunes and then checking for or creating device filters. Did it help? Did you run into any problems?

  • The registry settings used by theiTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs are missing

I recently installed a programme to convert audio from a cassette player to digital and I found that my CD/DVD drive was missing. I deleted the offending programme and followed a "fix" by deleting the upper and lower filters as specified in the fix. My CD/DVD drive reappeared but now when I open iTunes I get the message “the registry settings used by theiTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs are missing” even though I am able to import tracks from a CD to iTunes. I haven't tried burning a CD yet but then I hardly ever do. I don't appear to have the problem but the message insists that I do!
I have removed iTunes and all associated files and folders from my computer and reinstalled iTunes three times but the message still appears every time I open iTunes. I use Vista. Can you help?
    Many thanks.

I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)

I have edited the registery, downloaded the Gear drivers, uninstalled and installed itunes, and the error still appears.

    I have edited the registery,
We'd better have a closer look at the keys to see what's going on.
Can you post a screenshot of the contents of the key you've been editing, please? Include all of the regedit screen, including the left-hand column. Save the screenshot to an image file, and insert the image file in a reply by clicking the wee camera icon at the top of the reply window.

  • Registry used by itunesdrivers for burning CDs are missing - help!

    Hello All.
I have just upgraded my itunes from version 6 to the latest, and now it cannot see audio CDs or burn a CD. Everytime I start it up I get this message:
+Warning! The registry used by theitunesdrivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall itunes.+
If it helps, I have followed the information is this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5105496&#5105496
...but it still doesn't work. I also checked out this thread on Tech Support guy (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5105496&#5105496) but nothing there works either (although I haven't done the 'Delete SPTD.SYS from the C:\Windows\System32\Drivers folder.' etc instructions as I don't think I have daemon tools on this PC, unless they snuck in the back door somewhere). I also don't have other 'cd-burning software' - the PC came with a programme called Record Now, but there hasn't been a problem with that before.
I'm not that technical, and don't know why nothing seems to work now. I would be very grateful if anyone can offer some advice, or can point me in the direction of a thread on here that might shed further light on this mystery. I have reinstalled, restarted, uninstalled, rebooted - everything I can think of!
Thank you so much in advance,
    Jayne

    Hello again,
Thank you for posting those links. This is now solved, and I am so happy!
Basically I had to manually delete the gear files from the registry and then reinstall with the latest. Both of these instructions can be found via the links above, should anyone else come to this forum with the same issue. The instructions were clear, even to a novice like me.
Thanks again, Polydorus, for all your help.

  • "The registry setting used by itunes for burning CDs are missing"

Whenever I start up Itunes... I get this error message.
"The registry settings used by the Itunes drivers for importing & burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall Itunes".
Problem is... when I reinstall itunes nothing changes.
I've got Roxio cd-burning software installed on my computer. Is there a conflict with this software?
I can't burn songs from Itunes on to a CD. I haven't tried importing a CD or DVD but I'm guessing that won't work either.
    Any advice??

FIRST__REMOVE THE WINDOWS XP MAY 15th Updates!
    1. Go to gear's website and download either the 32
bit or 64 bit beta drivers depending on your
    operating system.
    2. install the drivers.
    3. run regedt32 make the changes as follow. Find

Delete any entry for the lowerfilter
the upperfilter entry should be: GEARAspiWDM
    4. reboot your machine and it should work.

  • My incoming calls are very quiet

Just got an iPhone and noticed that my incoming/outgoing calls are really quiet. My 'ringer' is turned up to the max, but don't where to look or what to change. Need help please.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, did you mean the analog phone connected on your SPA is not ringing when there's an incoming call ? If your answer is yes , try changing the analog phone connected to it to isolate the problem properly. In some cases , you will be needing to change the ring wave form on the SPA just like the one stated here

  • Internal speakers are very quiet

I got my MacBook in Summer 2006 and I am wondering if this is something to do with early models. The speakers work fine, but my problem is that they are veeeeery quiet. The room has to be next to silent for anyone to hear anything, even with everything turned up to maximum. Using headphones isn't a problem either.
I didn't think this was an issue until I met someone else with a later model MacBook whose speakers are a lot louder than mine.
Does this mean my speakers are broken or something? The MacBook has had some repairs done so if anything had happened to them, would they have noticed it or is it just how the first generation work? Any input would be appreciated.

If that is so, then why are newer models outfitted with louder speakers? I don't have the option of getting another computer any time soon, this one was a graduation gift, so I won't be getting anything else for a long time.
I also know other people with Mac and non-Mac lap tops. All of their speakers are a lot better than mine, and I just find it really odd and somewhat annoying.

But again, what's weird is that I don't have any problem with the DVDs.

  • Vocals are very quiet

i have a new ipod nano. when I listen to the songs, i can hear the instrumental part of the songs fine, but the vocals are extremely faint. any ideas?

    hi kem1220!
when I listen to the songs, i can hear the instrumental part of the songs fine, but the vocals are extremely faint.
i'm no expert on the topic, but i've seen people i trust on the forums say that the quiet vocals effect is typically caused by a bad jack connection. (i saw it once happen in a thread where PC speakers weren't firmly plugged in.)
let's try some experiments. do the songs play fine when you play them out of itunes on your PC? if so, do you get the same "vocal dropout" again if you try listening to the songs on your PC through the ipod headphones?
if the ipod headphones seem okay, maybe try using a different set of headphones with the ipod. do you still get the dropout with those?
    keep us posted.

Have you tried redownloading the GEAR drivers from feed://www.gearsoftware.com/rss/GEAR-drivers-feed.php ?
Sometimes reinstalling them fixes the problem.
I also found this wiki post that might help - http://www.gearsoftware.com/wiki/index.php?title=CD/DVDdrives_disappearing_due_to_incorrect_registryentry
