Burned CDs Only Play on Authorized Machine

I have recently bought a new PC and I moved my iTunes library over to the new machine and authorized it to play my purchased tracks. Everything seemed fine, I can sync my iPod and play all the purchased music on both the iPod and within iTunes.
I have successfully purchased more tracks on the new PC, but when I tried to burn them to a CD I found that the CD was not playable in a CD player. The CD is readable in the new PC and if I put the disk in the old PC I can import the tracks to the old system and then on that machine burn a CD that will play in a CD player!
The new PC will burn CD of non-purchased tracks fine and they can be played in my CD player, it looks as if when a CD is burned on the new PC with purchased music it is encrypted in some way.
I stress that both PCs are authorized to play the tracks that I have purchased myself.
Thanks,

But as I am sure you realize, your problems of burning "protected" tracks have nothing to do with the .cda files. Personally, I avoid purchasing "protected" tracks; they have no advantages and frequently cause annoying limitations.
Agreed, but if the tracks you want are protected only...
I could buy the CD and rip it, but then I would have a pile of CDs I don't really want. Hmm,so why am I trying to burn them on to CD? Because it's cheaper generally and I don't want the cases and sleeve notes!
I tried some further experiments over the weekend and found that the CD I burn on the new machine are not actually readable on the new machine! If I put them in the old machine they are fine and I can import the tracks!
I am desparate to ditch the old machine, but I can't while in this situation.

  • Music on slideshow says can only play on authorized machines

I'm putting together a DVD with photos that I have taken. I've imported several slideshows to iDVD without a problem but the last one that I have tried to add loads but has this message that comes up "Music on this slideshow can only be played on authorized machines". It lets me click okay. Will I encounter a problem later on?

The DVD is fine when viewing with Preview in IDVD 6. After it's burned and I try to play it on the tv, eight of the nine slideshows will play fine. It's only the big saved slideshow that is the problem.
Here's another real head scratcher............I've burned about 10 DVDs now and all of them are like described above except for one. That one DVD will open ALL the slideshows fine. Of course on that DVD I had forgotten to click "loop" so they could use it at the party without having to keep starting it over and over again. So now, why would 9 DVDs have the problem and one not have it? So it seems to me that it's not my DVD player for the tv that is the problem, but I have another DVD player on our downstairs tv so I will go check them out down there.

  • Burned CDs only play on computer

I imported a cd,k and burned it to a blank cd, but that one won't play on any cd player, only on the computer! Is this because I foolishly upgraded to itunes 9?

Whoops! Senior moments 5,463 - 5,479. I wasn't even seeing the options to check (i.e., audio, data etc., so apparently it was choosing "data" for me. All very simple. Thanks

  • Burned CD will play on all machines except Bose Acoustic Wave

I regularly burn CDs (music purchased on iTune) on my Mac. I can play the CDs (-R) on all machines including the player in my car, my PC at work, the CD player at the gym but they will not play on my Bose Acoustic Wave at home. Any ideas?

CD-RW disks are unreliable as audio CDs. Try a good
brand of CD-R disks and see if you have better luck
    with those.
And you'll want to confirm that your car's player
supports burned CDs; not all players do.
Thanks for your reply. I have three SONY CD players (one is for recording to a minidisc) and every one of them misplays that song. They are all supposed to play CD-RW discs. I have used the TDK CDs before on iTunes but only certain songs seem to go wacky -- it's like a voodoo curse on those songs!! Why do 99% of the songs play correctly but 1% will not?

  • Error Messages When Burning / Disk only plays in certain DVD players

When burning most all of my DVD's in DVD Studio Pro, after all of the encoding in the burn process and the program starts the initialization, I get a Media Error Calibration Error message. When I retry to burn, everything seems fine. But, my DVD's only play in some DVD players. Others say unreadable disc. Any ideas?

Many times, media can cause your problem, I use Maxell myself, (never had any compatibility issues. Here's a URL to a site that rates the quility of many different kinds of media and there reliability.
It also includes alot of very useful info below the ratings area.

  • Burn CDs to play MP3 format - with Lion

Can someone remind me how to burn a CD that will play on an MP3 player or older car CD player?  I've done it before, but Lion has had an update since then...and I can't remember how to change the burn settings.  And yes...I am using a music CD-R, not a data CD.  Thanks.

Treble clef was probably just printed on the disc and has no special meaning. Any CD-R disc can be a audio disc or a data disc. Which it ends up being depends upon how you burn it.
From reading other posts, apparently the burn item is under File. You select a playlist, then File > Burn  I am guessing at that stage you are presented with the type of CD to create.
Older car players probably cannot do mp3 CDs.  If you have a MP3 player -- well, I'm not sure how you'd put a CD into a mp3 player. Most ipods I have seen do not have CD drives!  If you mean a mp3 compatible audio CD player, for that there is probably a mp3 format selection or you need to create a data CD with mp3 files on it.

  • Can no longer burn CDs to play in my car

I'm not a huge iTunes user, so it's been a while since I downloaded some new songs.
What I'm finding is that the songs I've downloaded and burned to a CD will not play on my car stereo. I'm willing to pay the .30 extra for each song, but I can't even find out how to do so, or even find anything about iTunes plus in the iTunes store!
I DID, however get a message asking me if I wanted to pay the extra .30 for some songs I downloaded long ago!
What I want is to be able to play the last 11 downloads in my car. I'm willing to pay, but can't find out how.
    Any suggestions?

You have always been able to burn even copy protected tracks to an Audio CD. That hasn't changed. All tracks sold on the iTunes Store now are DRM free. Track prices now range form .69 to 1.29 but the price is unrelated to copy protection.
You may still be using the same brand/type of discs but are you still burning in the same format? When you select the playlist that you want to burn to a CD, then press "Burn CD", you get a dialog box that offers you options. Be sure you have "Audio CD" selected.
If, what you're really trying to do is burn an MP3 cd, you'd first need to make sure that all of the tracks in the playlist are mp3s. If not, you'd need to convert them. You'd need to make sure that your import settings were set to mp3 by going into Preferences>General and pressing the Import Options button and selecting the desired mp3 settings. Then, you select the tracks you want to convert, and from the Advanced menu, choose Create mp3 version. Note: this creates a new mp3 track. It doesn't change the existing track. And, it doesn't work on protected tracks. Protected tracks, as noted above, can be burned to an Audio CD which you can then use as you would any other Audio CD.
    Best of luck.

  • Burned CDs won't play in CD player

Since updating to Leopard, the CDs I burn will only play in the computer. My car player doesn't recognize the disk. I'm burning as an Audio CD. What else could I do? Thanks.

Are the cd-rws or cd-rs? Try a different brand. Try to burn at a lower speed. Many choices.

  • Satellite A200 cannot burn CDs

What can be the problem? I want to update my driver but I don't know which driver it is from the download page. So, please help.
    Thanks.

    > That's what I want to do. But I don't know where the driver is. In the drivers page all I have is a DVD player driver which I don't think this is what I'm looking for.
    You have misunderstood something.
Jimi have spoken about the CD/DVD drive (ODD) and NOT driver !!!
There are no special CD/DVD drivers because Windows uses an own Microsoft driver to control and run the CD/DVD drive!
So either youve got an hardware problem or you have used not compatible CDs

  • Cannot burn Audio CDs (only Data CDs) since upgrade to Itunes 7

I'm having a problem and it is very frustrating. Worked fine with Ver. 6 but you had to download to ver. 7 before you could purchase any new music so I did. Big mistake! My problem is burning CDs. I can only burn "Data CDs." I went to "Edit" and then to "preferences" then to "Advanced" and then to "Burning" -At that point you have a choice to choose Audio CD burning or Data CD burning. I will not stay on Audio CD burning - keeps defaulting to Data CD burning and there is no "save" button or anything to stop it from happening. When it burns from the data cd it the cd will only play in my computer - not in my car or other player. Would you know how to correct this???? to stop the default? My ipod is fine. I hope Apple takes care of this soon.

  • Burned CDs no longer play on imac G5 - commercial CDs play okay

My imac G5 is no longer recognizing any previously burned CDs. When I inset the CD I get "You've inserted a blank CD. Turn burn items on the CD....." etc. The CDs play okay in my CD player, just not on the imac.
The imac still recognizes and plays commercial CDs and CD ROMS.
I updated to iTunes+ two days ago. Since then I have been getting occasional "You're attempt to burn a disc failed. The device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." I have burned several CDs that also play on my CD player but will not play on the imac once the disc is injected and reinserted into the imac.
I have run the utilities disc and done repair file permissions. I have run the repair utility and get a "No problems found" result. I have also run a memorex cd cleaner disc.
I would suspect a hardware problem except it is only the discs I have burned that I get the "blank cd" notification.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? This is driving me nuts!!!!
    Thanks for any suggestions.
    Phil

iMacs are notoriously picky about CDs and DVDs. I suggest you post to the iTunes forum, they are more likely to have experience with this sort of problem: http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=789
although I looked through the old posts there and couldn't find an exact duplicate of your problem.
If you find a solution, please let us know,

  • CDs I burn from my itunes 10 on my macbook with snow lepard will not play in the regular cd player.  How do I burn Cds that will pay in a reg old cd player?

CDs I burn from my itunes 10 on my macbook with snow lepard will not play in the regular cd player.  How do I burn Cds that will pay in a reg old cd player?

When the computer was new, I had the same issue I have now.  It was new and I could not burn to play on a reg cd player. Today, I can not burn to play on a reg cd player. Inbetween, I could not burn to play on a reg cd player.  I keep giving up and then trying months later.
I have recently made the cds that play on the computer.  I have also tried in the last month to make a dvd copy, it played.  I have gone to people's homes and tried the cd's burned in my computer. They are not recognized.  This last round I have only used the cd-r but have tried many others in the past. I am running out of money to keep buying different brands, kinds, etc.  I figured it must be my lac of knowledge and am trying to get some new here.
    Sincerely,

  • Burned CDs won't play on portable player

My friend who has a PC has been burning CDs for me of spoken-word MP3s. They play fine on my portable CD player. Recently she gave me a USB drive with a bunch of MP3s for me to burn myself on my new MacBook Pro. The CDs I burned won't play on the CD player (but they will play in iTunes on my computer). I don't understand what's going on...can anyone help out? Thanks.

Yes, if your interest is only in burning CDs and you don't want to keep the music in iTunes, the process is pretty cumbersome. You may want to buy a disc burning application like Toast, which can burn all sorts of formats without your needing to import anything into iTunes.
