Burned CDs Skip
I recently switched from an iBook to a MacBook and am having problems with burned CDs. Commercial CDs and CDs that I burned on the iBook play in my car without any problems, but CDs that I've burned from my MacBook skip a lot. I've tried burning at different speeds and have also tried a couple of different CD brands. The first track is usually okay, but then it goes downhill from there, and by the 4th or 5th track, it's skipping more than playing. By the 10th or 11th track, sometimes it won't play at all. Bumps and turns don't seem to have an effect on how much it skips. Ideas? Thanks!
Playback problems, especially when they show in the higher numbered tracks, can often be avoided by a slower burning speed. I know you said you have tried different speeds, but if you have not tried 1x, pls try it now.

After burning cds on iTunes using my Mac, every track seems to skip
I've been always burning cds on iTunes. Lately, I burned about 3 cds and everytime I play them, every track seems to skip. Is there a solution for this? I'm not sure if it's the burner or something else. Please help!

Burning CDs, especially with iTunes, has always been finicky.
For CDs that have playback problems, the first thing to try is to burn again at a very low speed, e.g. 2x. This selection is made as the "Preferred Speed" in the Burn Disc dialog.
That often solves it, but if not, the next thing to try is a different brand of CD-R blank. (I assume you already know that CD-RWs will not give good results, so it has to be a CD-R.) I eventually gave up on every brand of CD-R blank except Verbatim, but it will depend on your burner.
If there are still problems, try burning a CD on the same computer with a non-iTunes program, such as Toast. If there is a problem with your burner, you will see it. -
Burned CDs come out with static, and stop/skip. Why?
The CDs I've tried to burn come out with fuzzy static and pause momentarily at times. I have tried altering the writing speed (I've tried 1X, 4X, and "maximum possible") and playing the discs in the car, cd player, and computer (all produce the same result). I can hear the music, but with the fuzz and momentary pauses it's annoying to listen to. Also, the burned CDs play at a much softer volume level than, say, the radio in my car--so much so that I deafen myself whenever I change out the CDs and the radio kicks in.
What's going wrong? Is this an iTunes problem I can fix? The burner is new from Dell a year ago and never been used, so I don't think it's that. I would appreciate any help. Thanks.
Dell Latitude C840 (PP01X) Windows 2000Try going to dell.com and download all updates for your system on there site, especailly firmware updates for the CD ROM and BIOs updates and chipset updates for the PC system.
If that doesn't fix it, goto edit>preferences>advanced tab>burn sub tab and UNCHECK "Sound Check" so they play louder
If needed we can check and see if the drive is in PIO mode instead of DMA. Does the PC lock up or get really slow when burning CDs? -
I tried to urn a cd usting itunes, it goes to checking media and than it freezes. I have used itunes to burn cds before and it has just started to do this now. I upgraded to itunes 6.0.2 and the problem still occurs. Help!!!!

ITunes won't burn CDs anymore...
I've tried several times to burn a CD from iTunes. It used to be fine...it will burn all the way through, then stumble a bit on the final song, taking a few minutes longer than necessary, then it will say it's finished, but when I try to play it, it doesn't work. On iTunes, it will show the little speaker to the left of the song, skipping from one song to the next very fast, but won't ply anything.
Any help? Thanks, Nathan. I understand about time constraints. I can wait.

When I attempt to log on to I tunes I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the I Tunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.
This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install I Tunes."
To my knowledge no new software has been installed. I have tried un-installing and re-installing I Tunes but I still
get the same message.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? Do I need to download a new driver?
Bill MartinI can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu. -

Any help most appreciatedFinding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!! -

Like many other users, I can no longer burn CDs since my recent upgrade to version 6.0.1. I was able to burn CDs with no problems before this upgrade, but now when I click "Burn Disc", iTunes freezes with no error message. I have to exit out using Ctrl-Alt-Del, as iTunes is not responding.

Error 4000 burning CDs with iTunes 7.1
iTunes checks the disc, then burns 3-4 songs, then cancels the CD burn wasting yet another disc. Also, I cannot backup my purchased songs with the backup feature. Compaq Presario Windows XPSame problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now. -
ITunes will no longer rip or burn CDs
When I start iTunes it says "iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes."
When I try and reinstall, it says that I have a newer version and it can not complete the install.
I have been burning and importing for over a year, plus buying so I have over 1400 songs.
If i uninstall and start over I'm assuming that I will lose all my songs. don't want that!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.have all the little checkboxes to the left of your songs become unchecked?
if so, Ctrl-click on one of the boxes to do a "global recheck". do you get continuous play again? -
I recently upgraded Itunes and now it says i can't burn cds from my Itunes store purchases.
Why is this please? Does this mean that I can no longer keep copies of my Itunes music on CDs to use on another system?
I would appreciate some enlightenment for this please. The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing . This can be a result of installing other cd burning software. Please re-install itunes.
for some advanced techniques for dealling with that one, see:
iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting CD issues caused by device filters
but if you'd prefer to try some quicker and dirtier techniques (that don't involve a registry edit), post back and we can run through those as well.
