Burned discs will not play on home stereo

I have recently discovered that since December of 2009, all the discs I have burned of my iTunes purchases do not play on my home stereo CD player (Sony 300 disc jukebox). They still play on my Mac G5 desktop (OS 10.4.11) with iTunes v9.1. Discs I burned before December 2009 still play on my CD player. What's strange is that if I put the disc in my iMac Intel G5 (OS 10.6.3) and reburn the disc on that machine, they do play on the CD player. Also, discs I can burn on the G5 desktop with Toast play fine. Was something changed in iTunes around December, 2009 that would affect my burning in this way? Thanks for any input...

Did you accidentally select a data CD or an MP3 CDin your burn preferences, instead of an Audio CD?

burned cd will not play in car (plays, but i can't hear it)

In my experience car CD-players are more picky than home CD-players, when it comes to a certain combination of burner and CD-R brand.
My over 10 year old home CD-player plays every CD I burned, but my car CD-player rejects some brands.
From your first post I understand that burning CDs on your 'old' computer didn't give problems.
Maybe trying another well known brand (Sony or TDK) will solve the problem burning CDs with your 'new' computer.
Don't use cheap 'white-label' CD-Rs. They lead often to disappointment, when burning an audio CD.
Also don't use CD-RW and CD-Rs especially designated for music. The latter do cost more and often don't play on car CD-players.
The above is from my own experience and doesn't have to be a general experience.

  • DVD-R discs will not play on DVD Player

The DVD-R discs I made will not play on DVD Player Version 4.0.
I transferred VHS to DVD-R using an RCA VHS/DVD Recorder. The discs played well in 3 different DVD players but will not play on my i-book.
    Please help?
    New At This
    i-book G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

In a nutshell the problem is the fact that the Software used by the RCA recorder is for PC.
When recording DVD's the software that is available varys greatly.
Some of the top of the line software gives options to burn PC only, MAC only, and PC or MAC combined.
It was also brought to your attention to use VLC Player on your Mac the firmware that is used with this player will sometimes allow for playing DVD's that were burned on these VHS to DVD Burners.
Here are a few tips that affect reading and writing DVD. This link is only a small amount of what can and does affect, I suggest you do a Google search to learn all you can.

  • Burned CD will not play on a computer

I've discovered that CDs that I have burned will not play on a computer (Mac or PC), while they play perfectly fine on a CD player (in the car, boombox, etc). I have the latest version of iTunes, and I use CD-R discs. What the heck is going on?

Try different brands of CD_R media. Also check speed of your cd burner and set burn speed in I-Tunes to match instead of maximum possible, If that doesn't work try a slower burn speed. Also do not run other programs while burning. Check your Cd on other players to make sure that is not the problem. I-tunes gives very few parameters to chose from so it is hard to do anything wrong in the program settings.

  • Voice Memos will not play through Home Sharing on other devices.

I have synced my voice memos to my Apple library on my Mac Mini and can listen to them on that device with no problem. However, when I use my iPad or MacBook or Air to play the memos using my Home Sharing the voice memos will not play on the device. Sometimes a random song will start instead of the voice memo. I can play videos and music through Home Sharing with no problems, it seems to be only the voice memos that won't stream to the connected devices. Any help would be great (using Yosemite on devices).

I'm running 4.3.3 on mine and just played Joe Ely's latest album on my 1st generation Zeppelin. I do get the message about it not being compatible and possible noise but I dismiss that and play the music.
You may need to reset your Zeppelin (disconnect it from power, wait 2 minutes, plug it back in), Reset you iPhone (hold down the sleep and home buttons, ignore the red Off slider, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttones) or do both.
You may also need to update the firmware on your Zeppelin if you have not done so before now.

  • IDVD burned disc will not run on Windows Media Player

I've just started using iDVD for my portfolio of images that I want to leave with employers at interviews. I thought iDVD would be great. I just burned a sample disc and it played fine on my mac (photos are a little fuzzy) but when I play the DVD on Windows it just says that it's an "unknown DVD."
HELP. I want to make a DVD of slideshows that can be played on any computer or DVD player. How can I do this?

    Thanks Sue-
I'm still new to finding ways to be Mac and Windows compatible. (I've been using Mac since the Apple IIc came out in the late '80's and have only been using Windows for a few years at the office.) I have Parallels running on my Mac Book Pro which has a Superdrive. I would think that the Windows side in Parallels would be able to access the Superdrive as a DVD. Maybe not. I should look into this. Meanwhile I will look over the link that you suggested, as I only have about 60 slides to onto a disc. Maybe a CD would work.

  • Burned CDs will not play in car

New MacBook Pro and now I cannot get music CDs to play car.

Are you implying that your burned discs from old Mac products played in your car before?  Are you using stickers/labels on the discs that you're trying to play in your car?  Will the first tracks play, but not the later tracks on the CD?

  • DVD Studio Pro will burn but will not play on dvd player.

HD DVDs will only play on Macs and a couple of now obsolete Toshiba HD DVD players.
Since DVD is a standard definition only format, you will need to create a regular DVD if you want it to play on regular DVD players or on Windows systems.

  • HP HDX 16 Blu-Ray discs will not play!

I have researched this Blu Ray issue for days without a real solution.  I am running Vista and notice many people feel upgrading to windows 7 was the issue, but I do not believe it is since I am still on Vista, with the same Blu-Ray disc issuey here.  Also I do not have Itunes another popular fix.  I did upgrade all the drivers I could and all the software I could from HP but did not resolve the issue.  I can play regular dvd discs but not the Blu-Ray ones with the exception of 1.  Surprisingly it is a newer one also.  Updating the Media Smart has also caused a problem with not being able to use the keyboard light at the top to open the dvd drive.  (one problem at a time though.)
The DVD Lightscribe drive shows as:  HL-DT-ST-BDDVDRW CT10L ATA Device
After years of this issue being a problem does anyone have a real fix solution? Or  Does the Blu-Ray player need to be replaced and with what.

  • Burned CD Will Not Play in Car

I burned a cd in iTunes and it will play on my home cd but not in the car. I've burned other cds on my old computer using Toast, also CD-R, and they play in the car just fine. My Preferences are set at audio cd, I double checked and ended up burning a second cd which also won't play in my car, just to make sure I'd done it right the first time. What the heck is going on?

  • Burned CD will not play on CD player

I have successfully burned a music CD on a CD-R that plays on the computer. I put it in a CD player and it played once but when I tried to replay it again the player would not recognize the disk. I burned a second disk and the player would not recognize it at all. I record at 4x on audio. Any ideas?

  • Burning Disc will not Complete on iDVD

Hi can some on help me.
My Mac runs on 10.6.8 and I am using iLife 11 and when I try and burn a disc it goes through the whole proses and when it gets to the end with multiplexing and burning it just sits there all day on the same thing and it never completes the burning. I am burning a Dual Layered disc because of the size of my project and I have changed the settings to say it is Dual layered disc. Also I have it on professional Quality.
    Kind Regards,
    Taylor Budge

    Hi
when it gets to the end with multiplexing and burning it just sits there all day on the same thing and it never completes the burning.
    How long is this ?
to me a single layer DVD with 2hour movie incl menu can take about 4 hours to get ready. DL - might take about 8hours.
If You look into Activity Movitor - it will say iDVD do not respond - THAT IS A LIE !
It should say - iDVD has to much to do to be able to respond - If You see how many percent CPU it uses - then it's not ZERO but anything like 80 to 150 % - so it has a full time shift.
IF YOU - Force Quit or Panic Halt - then You create problems for it and Your Mac - If so
    • Run Repair Permissions - Disk Util tool - and -
    • Run Repair Hard disk - Disk Util tool - but NOW You have to start from DVD or external hard disk to do this
    • AND - trash iDVD pref file
This to prevent a Mac failure in future as Panic Halts builds up small errors that can lead to a severe Crash.

  • Burned cd will not play in other cd players?

I am using cd-r cds and they appear to burn from my itunes but, then they do don play in other cd players ie the car etc. Can not figure it out.

The brand can make a difference. If you know your CD player can handle CD-R's--but some simply won't play, then trying a different brand is a good idea. You might want to avoid the bargin brands--if your player has trouble reading some disks.
One thing that I've noticed over time is that these homemade CDs don't hold up very well. I have some mix CDs that I made about four years ago. They played fine for a few years, but now they skip and don't work anymore. Cleaning them doesn't help--and they aren't scratched--sooooo I'm wondering if there is a limited shelflife for a computer burnt CD that you use frequently.

  • CD-R Disc will not play with photos of sons graduation

    Hello,
We were given a CD-R disc by our son's kindergarten teacher which is a slide show of pics taken throughout the school year and I am having trouble being able to open to view. It is formatted in powerpoint.
Any ideas as to how I can view this?
    Thanks,
    Brett

    It is formatted in powerpoint.
Use PowerPoint or Keynote (or some viewer that will view PowerPoint presentations)
Or have her give it to you as a QuickTime movie - or as a PDF - or just give you the photos
