Burned disk Image now what?

I burned a disk image of my iDVD project. When I tried to open up one of the files, I got a message: THERE IS NO DEFAULT APPLICATION SPECIFIED TO OPEN THE DOCUMENT "VIDEO_VOB." THen I choose the choice it gives me: ADOBE READER. And then it says NOT SUPPORTED APPLICATION. What does all this mean and how do I now burn from my disc image?
Please advise.
THanks.

The reason they recommend this is to "play it safe". They are concerned with layer breaks from the first layer to the second. Yes there is often a pause (but not always). In DVDSP one has the option to set the break so it's less noticeable. But I don't think iDVD has this same capacity. Both Len Goff and I have used Toast and Apple's Disc utilities w/o issue for buring a disc image to DL media (Verbatim) in this same scenario in iDVD6 (HOWEVER I have not yet tried it in iDVD'08). Perhaps you can let us know.

  • Made a Disk Image - Now what?

I finished a project in IDVD. I burned a copy and it all worked nice.
Now I want to save it as a Disk Image on my external drive and get back the space used for the project on my Mac HD.
I seem to have made the image fine, but I can't open it? Should I be able to view it from the external drive? Should I be able to bring it back on the Mac HD to view?
I appreciate the help......Looks like it automatically saved as a .img file on my Lacie.
    Thank you!
    Bill

A disk image is just an 'image' of a DVD you can burn.
You can double-click on the image and mount it on your desktop. Then use Apple's DVD Player application to play the VIDEO_TS folder in the mounted disk image.
I don't know why you can't view it from the external.

  • Created disk image. now what?

I got as far is creating the dis image with the work around... easter egg or whatever its called.
but now i need to burn it to the disc. my dvd r is an external drive everytime i click burn, it will only use my built in cdr drive (naturally thats not gonna work.) how do i get this to burn on the dvd-r?
    please help
    thanks

Cody the easiest way to burnyour disk is double click your image and then close it using the red button on the top left corner of the window---
then open disk utility and it should be listed as a drive.
click it once to highlight it and the click the burn icon in the top left corner--it will then prompt you to pick the drive.{you should have you drive plugged in and the disk ready}before you click the burn icon---this should work

Why is my encrypted disk image now only read only in Mountain Lion? It was fine read/write in Lion.
Sorry post did not give me a choice for the mountain lion community.  Buggy support interface.
    Thanks

    Thanks!  I haven't posted many questions (i guess that's a good thing).
I did however find an answer to my issue.  It was caused by a third party utility called Totalfinder.  Once uninstalled and my iMac rebooted, the disk image is behaving to its stated permissions.

  • Can't burn disk image

Hello there. I made a disk image with iDVD 6 and when I try to burn it with Disk Utility it just seems to hang and go nonwhere. How do I burn the image in Toast or in any other program? Thanks.

    Ok...
I've seen many people post that link to "how to burn a DVD from a disc image" using disk utility. I must be doing something wrong because it's not working for me. I know the image is good, because I've transferred it to a PC and it burns just fine. I also know my Super Drive is OK because a burn directly from iDVD works fine, too.
Here's what I notice about burning from Disk Utility:
Sometimes, the burn completes but fails in the Verify stage. Other times I get a message to the effect "cannot retry." Which it is doesn't seem to matter much, although I have even seen the "cannot retry" message even on a burn that looks "visually" to be the right length. I realize I should have written this message down but it slipped my mind at the time and I am reluctant to create any more "guaranteed" coasters.
All of the coasters have one thing in common: there is an inner ring that is burned on my iDVD burns and not burned on my Disk Utility burns. The coasters with the "complete" burns mount and play on my Macs. Even the incomplete burns mount and play, as far as they were burned. They do not mount (i.e. show up as blank) on PCs and will not play in DVD players.
So, there must be something about the procedure I am following to burn these disks in Disk Utility that is just not right. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. I've stared at these links quite a bit and just not been able to see what I'm doing wrong.

I saw a post about this, specifically about how a guy spent a bunch of time on the phone with Apple, and all they could tell him was to contact the DVD player manufacturer. Then he found some magical step that nobody mentions that makes it all work. Unfortunately, I closed Safari before printing it, and can't find it now. The subject, I think, was "Apple Support Hung Up on Me."

  • Source Material error when burning disk image

Well, I've been haunting these forums for 10 days, finding answers to every darn problem under the sun I've encountered! (thanks folks, I've been near hysteria) Now I have yet another problem, and I cannot find an answer in the forums (sorry if it's there.)
I have built my movie in iMovie, imported to iDVD, created my disk image, played my disk image (worked perfectly), connected my brand new LaCie external burner, loaded Toast 6 Lite, dragged my mounted disk image icon into the window, popped in my Verbatim DVD+R and let 'er rip.
And, poo, I'm informed that 4 files are in an unsupported format and cannot be imported. EH? I thought the disk image kept all self-contained? I press onward, and hit burn. Churning, churning... and then this message:
"Could not record disc because there is a problem with the source material. Result code= -18774"
Trying to burn via Disk Utility doesn't work either. My mounted disk shows up, but when highlighted the burn button is grayed out. Only when I click on the .img file is the burn option lit.
Am I supposed to drag the .img file rather than the mounted little disc icon? PLEASE HELP. These movies were SUPPOSED to be Xmas presents... now I'm praying for Michaelmas gifts!
    TIA

ohmygosh. Lightbulb! I've been trying to burn the file_name one and not the file_name.img one. I assumed the point of mounting the file was to burn it, but it's only to preview it, yes?? So, I did that via Disk Utility, and it worked!! Only thing I can't figure is how to set the burn speed. I know slower is better, but can't find the place to tell it the speed. It never asks.
Toast still gives me the source material error. I do have the 'video' tab selected, and I've done the drag-n-drop method AND the 'add' method ('copy' is only for transferring data from one CD/DVD to another in my version, evidently). Toast doesn't allow me to grab the .img file, so I'm assuming IT wants the mounted file_name one? I'd still like to be able to use Toast to burn, so a solution to this would be appreciated. I'm using Toast 6 Lite, BTW.

  • Burn disk image with a pc

Hi, I would like to know, if it is possible to burn a idvd disk image with a pc.
(I want to get a macbook, and since I already own a pc with a dvd-burner I think it would be best to save the 200 $ and just get the cheapest model. I still want to be able to burn a few iDVD Projekts so the question is, what kind of format iDvD saves the images in - iso or some fancy mac format?)

  • Burning disk images on Disk Utility...

How do I burn multiple Disk Images onto a single DVD that I can then use on a PC? I have several 3 CD application images, and I want to convert them to DVD, but I can't figure it out, and I have no clue how this can be done! thanks!
(PS) I also have Toast Titanium 7, and even that doesn't seem to have an explanation on how to do this!

I purchased several software titles that were released on CDs (3 cd set!) once I have turned them into disk images (DMG and/or IMG), how do I burn the 3 images into a single session DVD for use on Windows XP? as far as I know, XP can only read single session DVDs and CDs, so I need this to be burned (3 IMG files) onto the single session DVD, but i have no clue how to do it. please help me! thanks!
(PS) can be completed using Disk Utility or toast 7 [since I have a full version of both]

  • Burning disk images

Does anyone know how to burn multiple disk images onto a single dvd that will play in a stand alone dvd player? I tried this by dragging the movies onto the dvd, as disk utility only allowed me to select one image. However, I couldn't open the files to play it, presumably because they were not interlinked in any way.
Would be grateful if anyone knows a way around this. I no longer have the original material only disk images of the short movies I made.
    Thanks

    Hi June
Don't think that Your wish is possibly. You most probably has to build
Your DVD menu in a program like iDVD and from QT.mov files.
You have to find the original QT-files OR convert the disk images (or DVDs)
to QT.mov files in one way or another. (With quality loss)

  • Windows Disk-Image File:  What to Exclude from Time Machine?

I don't use Parallels very often, but when I do, the famous, predictable annoyance comes up:  The Windows disk-image file under MacOS gets tweaked, and then suddenly Time Machine has this mondo-huge 25GB file to backup.  That of course, clogs up my Time Machine backup drive.
A common solution appears to be to exclude that file from Time Machine, and then back it up by some other means.  OK, I'm cool with that, if only I knew what that file is called, and where I could find it, so that I can tell Time Machine to exclude it.
I'm guessing it's somewhere down in System or System Folder?

Ask on the Parallels forums, as its their software you have questions about

  • Trying to burn disk image onto LaCie DVD burner...

I have saved an imovie in iDVD and then saved the project as a disk image on my desktop. Using Disk Utility I added the image as a new image and chose burn. Everything seemed to be going fine, It said it was burning the image and when it finished a error window appeared that said device did not respond properly and was unable to burn project. Can anyone give a start to finish on how to burn an iDVD project to a DVD-+R on a LaCie burner??? Much help appreciated...
    BA

Use Toast which came with it - it burns the images fine. And try Verbatim media.

  • Burned Disk Image Won't Play on DVD Player and Work Around

    Hi all,
I was having problem with DVD not being recognized on a regular, stand alone, set top DVD player. The program was created in iDVD6 and saved to disk image. Then I used Disk Utility to burn it and the resulting disc played on Mac but not regular player.
Knowing that the blank media was good from a previous Toast 7 burn, I used Toast 7's Video TS option to burn from the mounted disk image. This disc worked on regular player with one small difference. With multiple videos (in addition to chapter markers) on the DVD, fast forwarding past the end of one video would start the next one with Toast, whereas the disk image (played on the Mac) would return to DVD menu.
I never burned directly from iDVD 6, since the video conversion process took 7 - 11 hours, so I don't know if that would work or not.
I hope this is helpful to some and if anyone decides to buy Toast from Roxio directly, leaving the online cart page open for a minute or two will pop up a 10% off incentive to urge you to check out. That's as of a week or two ago.
    Yu

whereas the disk image (played on the Mac) would return to DVD menu.
That has happened to me, but not with the one project I made with iDVD 6.

  • Replace lost 10.4 disk; will a burned disk image work ?

My computer shipped with OS X 10.4 but I cannot find the 10.4 install disk anywhere and I need to reinstall the system software. Is there a method by which to get a replacement disk from apple ? I have a friend who uses 10.4 -- if I were to ask him to create a disk image and then burn me a new copy of the install disk, would this work or would I be wasting his time by asking (would apple not allow me to install from a copy of a disk that had been used to install the OS on another computer) ? thanks,
    -->cm

Apple will send you a new installation disk for a small fee. Contact Apple to find out how to submit this request.
You can use a burned DVD if the copy of Mac OS X is from a generic DVD and you are not using an Intel-based Mac. Apple has not released a generic Mac OS X DVD that's compatible with the Intel-based Macs yet.
