Burned dvd has audio but no video

Anyone ever have this problem: Burned a DVD from imovie and it works on the mac. When trying to play on dvd player, it has sound but no video. Anyone?

First thing you might do is in iDVD, use the menu option to "Delete encoded assetts" in case the previous garbage from the last project or burn is messing things up. If that doesn't work here are my standard list of things I do when I have issue or even just before I go to burn a new project...
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Reboot your Mac.

FCPX has audio but no video

Videos play fine in QTPro but when loaded into FCPX there is no video. What's going on here?
I just downloaded FCPX on a new MacbookPro ( MAC OS X Lion 10.7.1, quad core I7). FCPX is version 10.0.1 configured with most current updates. Videos have .mov extension and are DV 720 x 480 and were created in FCP 6 in when converting VHS to digital. Vids play just fine in QuickTime Pro on the MacBook. No prior version of FCP was present on the new computer. I'm pulling out what little hair I have left so any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I'm having exactly the same problem; it happens on every file I import regardless of file size. I've tried it on some quite small files (1 minute of AVCHD footage imported from DSLR, for example). It also happens on imported .mov files. The symptoms are:
1. Thumbnail image is visible in event browser
2. Audio waveform is visible in event browser
3. Skimming plays audio but there's nothing but a gray background in the canvas/viewer
4. Placing the playhead in the middle of the clip and pressing the spacebar to play results in an extended beachball (at least 30 seconds for even a short clip) followed by the appearance of a black video image in the canvas/viewer plus the audio playing normally.
I called AppleCare about this and we walked through some diagnostics; nothing fixed the problem, but creating a new test account on the Mac DOES result in the problem going away. Following this determination, I:
1. Deleted FCPX and all its projects, events, folders, and preferences
2. Booted to safe mode
3. Rebooted to user mode
4. Repaired disk permissions
5. Reinstalled FCPX from the App store.
No effect; the problem is still there. Clearly something about my user account settings, or something about other software installed, is causing the problem. However I cannot figure out what it is.

Burn DVD, get audio but black screen and no video

Hi. I'm using iDVD 7.1.1. I exported a short movie (720p, 16:9) from Final Cut Pro (export as Quicktime movie) and stuck it in my project. It looks find when I preview it but when I burn the disk (Professional Quality encoding) I get a black screen after I click through from the menu, though I can hear the audio. Please help!!
(I'm using a MacBook Pro i7).

A. Try to do a DiskImage first. File and down to Save as a DiskImage - test this with DVD-tool to see that it runns OK

Avi file from PC user has audio but not video

When I play a .AVI file from a PC user through Quicktime pro, I am getting no video, but can hear the file fine.
Any ideas what may be wrong?

Using VLC is about as simple as it gets and if that will not play the avi they are encoded in a very rare codec. One last thing you can do is open the avi in QT Player and open MovieInfo in the Window menu. If it says they are encoded with an Indeo codec then there is no way to play them in OS X. There are Indeo codecs for the Classic environment but none for OS X. Indeo codecs for Classic

DVD player audio but no video

I have a new iMac. Put in a DVD and it played perfectly. Next DVD that was put in, I could hear the soundtrack but can't see/find the picture. I tried several other commercial DVDs to see that it isn't the DVD. Can anyone tell me what to do? I hadn't used the computer or changed anything between times except confirming the region code on the first DVD.

Audio, but no video when compressing FCPX files

I am trying to compress a 4-minute video for use on YouTube. I send the edited video from FCPX to Compressor 4 and have used several of the preset settings (H.264 for Video Podcasting and HD 720p Video Sharing). In both cases, the .mov file has audio, but no video. When I use the Export Media option to export the raw .mov file, there is video and audio. Any idea why this is happening? What are the best settings to use for YouTube? When I send it straight to YouTube via FCPX (by logging into my YouTube account), everything works fine. But I need a separate .mov file to send around elsewhere. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm guessing Warwick is correct.
One other thought: if you have an "Export Media" option, your version of FCPX is not current and should be updated. Afterwards, Id suggest running repair permissions in Disk Utility.

My experience is the 720p YT and Vimeo presets are fine for uploading. If your project is 1080p, you'll have that option as well.
By send around elsewhere, the usual tradeoffs between quality and file size apply. Usually h.264 – either Quick Time or MP4 at the original resolution and frame rate – provides the best tradeoff. That is, unless someone is going to be showing it in a movie theater.

Blu Ray Burned in Encore CS4 play audio but no video

I've burned this project multiple times and everytime I get the menus and the audio, but no video when played on a Blu Ray player. The same disc plays fine in computer/laptop. And when I tried a shorter version of the project (10 minutes vs. an hour and a half for the original) it plays fine everywhere. Could the file size be causing my disc not to play in a BD-R player? Then why would it play on a computer/laptop?

• Go up to Sequence and down to Render Only - down to Mix Down Audio
• then Sequense and Render Selected - Both (Video and Audio)
• then Export and as QuickTime .mov (NOTHING ELSE)
• I use to do - Not Self-Contained as it saves both time and space
Your Start-Up (Mac OS) Hard Disk - Needs lot's of free space to work OK - I never go under 25Gb free space on this one,

Audio but no video for .mov file.

For Windows XP (Home Edition 5.1.26700 Service Pack 3 Build 2600):
My QuickTime Player 7.6.6 shows a window but the window is empty only the audio is present.
The same or similar is the case in VLC, RealPlayer, and DivX Player.
Additional information from my Mac OS X:
- The .mov file plays perfectly on my iMac in my QuickTime Player 10.0(114).
- Cmd-I reports for the .mov file: codecs: H264,AAC.
- The file is produced by AddMovie version 1.8.6 from a .flv file and the developer states:
’AddMovie uses Mac OS technology "out of the box" so to speak. In other words all it does is call system functions that in turn call the codecs installed on your system to do their job. I don't write any codecs (i.e. compressor/decompressors - i.e. exporters/importers) - other third party developers do that. So, getting the output of AddMovie to be compliant for other software depends on your choice of these third party add-ons, and the selection of them in the preferences window.‘
- Perian 1.2.1 and Flip4Mac 2.3.4.1 are installed.
- VLC version 1.1.2 is installed and it plays the .mov file with audio but no video like QuickTime Player in Windows.

I think the audio rate was to blame. I changed the audio format in QuickTime Player 7 Pro from (I think) Linear PCM to AAC and the kbps number from the default value 128 to 64. Then I changed the mark for the video rate from automatic to the option of setting a limit and set a suitable limit. That way I was able to control the total kbit/second rate for the exported .mov file so that it got a reasonable size.
When I compare the source .flv file with the produced .mov file for the case when they have about the same total kbit/second rate, I can see that the .mov file is smoother or has less detail than the .flv file although the difference is not big. Increasing the video rate limit in QuickTime Player 7 Pro causes a bigger .mov file with better quality to be produced.

Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
Even if it's just to redownload the driver. I recommend another browser.
