Burned DVD plays differently.......

on different DVD players.
Seems the iTheme works fine on my home theatre DVD player. However, can't seem to fast forward or rewind as that just takes me back to either the beginning of the video or even takes me back to the iTheme screen.
On a second DVD player, I can't access the iTheme screen. Just takes me straight to the video but does allow me to fast forward and rewind.
What is up with that?

Does this have to do with some setting son the DVD player, I assume?
Seems to work fine on the other DVD player and on the laptop.
Not all set top DVD players like to play writable discs. In addition, not all set top DVD player remotes produce the desired/expected action.
There isn't much that can be done in iDVD - to get maximum compatability with set top players use good quality media (Maxell or Verbatim) and burn out of iDVD at a low burn speed (4x or less). (Setting the burn speed in iDVD 7 isn't easy to find - it's an advanced option in the preferences if I remember correctly).

my burned dvd plays on my Mac with no problems but on my dvd player, it just stops after 3 few seconds. any ideas what happened there?

    Welcome to the Forum.
The most likely reason for consumer DVD players to skip or stop on DVDs that play well in computer DVD drives, are excessive burn errors that the consumer players 'choke on'. All burned media (CD and DVD) has burn errors. Burning at lower speeds tends to reduce the error level, hence the recommendation to burn low-speed media for maximum player compatability. Computer DVD drives have a high level of error correction (after all - you wouldn't want to loose any data on a data DVD) and can handle the errors. Consumer DVD players don't - after all they are designed to playback pressed DVDs with low error rates.
Some consumer DVD players are more sensitive to these errors than others.
Sometimes using a different brand of media will help.

BURNED DVD PLAYS WITH SOUND ON PC BUT NO SOUND WHEN PLAYING ON TV - VIA VIDEO PLAYER ??

    Hi,
It may be worth trying another burning application to see if this helps the issue.
Download and install the free utility, ImgBurn and use this to create the DVD.  Guides on using this to burn to single layer and dual layer discs are below.

  • Menu-text in burned DVD is different from original

I have created a simple menu consisting of a row of ten buttons. Each button has a persons name in it. All the ten names/buttons are aligned. In the simulator everthing is OK but when I play the burned DVD the row of names is not aligned anymore and the space between different words in 1 button are different from the original as well. How do I change this?

sometimes duplicate fonts can re-format themselves this way when different version with the same names are used. If resolving duplicates in font book doesn't do the trick, I'd recommend using photoshop instead of DVDSP to create the menu

  • Burned DVD plays OK on computer but not on DVD player through TV

Did all steps through iMovie to make a DVD. No apparent problems surfaced during the process. The DVDs play fine on the computer but not on DVD player through the television. Suggestions were that I was using the wrong media, that the best was DVD-R. Same problem regardless of which was used: it may play well into the DVD and have problems when selecting a chapter, a slideshow or it can happen between chapters. There's no pattern to when it will malfunction or how it will appear. It manifests itself by slowing, going to jerky play or stopping completely; these problems may or may not be the same on DVDs that are made back to back but there is always a problem of some sort. I redid the DVD without a slideshow but the problem persists. I really don't want to do it without chapters but haven't tried doing it that way.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

I suggest you try the disc on as many players as you
    can get your hands on.
While it is good to have a player to test the final
disc on, you can't be sure that you're not facing the
    quirks of just ONE player.
Of course this is no help if you only own ONE player.
The one that is your home DVD player. Many people on
these boards will reccomend the least expensive
player to use for testing. Often newer, less
expensive DVD players are more reliable than ones
that cost three times as much.
Have you had any success making DVDs in the past?
Very limited DVD making in the past but no problems such as this.
I really appreciate the responses so far and will look at all options. The DVD is quite full (an earlier response made note that this could be a problem) Since this is a church program that will be used on a vaiety of players, a disclaimer may be included explaining the possible problems.
Interesting that a lesser expensive unit could be more reliable...

  • Burned DVD plays on some DVD players and not others

    Hello all,
First, please forgive my ignorance because I do not work with video much and have no idea what I'm doing. Someone created a video that I need to burn so the DVD can play on any DVD player. The folder is titled "VIDEO_TS" and then the files within it have the following extensions: .BUP, .IFO, .VOB. with VIDEO and VTS as the prefixes. the largest file has a .VOB extension. The master disk is a DVD-R and I burned the video on a Verbatim DVD-R which played fine on my MAc, a PC and two DVD players. However, I tried it on two other DVD players and it could not be played. So now I'm trying to figure out how I can created a DVD that will be compatible with any DVD player or create an alternate version that can be played on the machines that currently can't play the DVD.
Does all of that make sense? I've been all over the internet and seen different suggestions for similar problems but I don't want to spend money or waste time trying different tactics that won't solve my problem.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
This is a question very familiar in iDVD forum. I use to answer like this.
    • Brand of DVD used matters - I only use Verbatim (more organic dye in these) - but there are other GOOD Brands
    • DVD-R - plays on more DVD-players than DVD+R as it plays on even older DVD-players (DVD+/-RW - don't even think of it)
    • BURN SPEED - is a major contributor to this problem - I never go faster than x4 - I use as standard x2
There are two kinds a blanc DVD can be burned as
    • DATA-DVD - Files from DeskTop just stored on a blank DVD - few DVD-players can play this (only very very new ones and they are rare - if I'm rightly informed)
    • Video-DVD - a DVD-authoring program is a MUST. iDVD, DVD-Studio Pro, Burn, Roxio Toast etc etc
I'm told that Compressor can do this - I never got it to deliver a Playable-DVD - BUT THIS IS DUE TO MY NEGLECT !
So when iDVD or Toast creates this very special structured DVD - You find the two (must be there) folders VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS (empty) - and if the DVD-player don't find this = it will not play.
Yours - very happy with iDVD and Toast (and DVD-Studio Pro - but this is hard to get right) - Bengt W

  • Burned DVD plays in computers, but does not play in DVD players

I found a discussion of a similar problem from back in 2010, but in that thread the only reply was suggested burning at 1x and trying different media. There was no further correspondence so I can't tell if that suggestion resolved the issue. I tried burning again at 1x and using different media (we're using Verbatim) without success, so I ask again.
The problem is with menu navigation in DVD.
The main menu has the probelem. It has four buttons arranged in a 2x2 square that send viewers to 4 submenus. Each submenu has three buttons - play without subtitles, play with subtitles, return to main menu.
In any computer (we've tried it in 8: MACs and PCs) navigation of the main menu works perfectly using the mouse (although not the up/down left/right buttons on the keyboard... is THAT normal?).
But in the four DVD players in which we've tried it we cannot navigate to the button on the lower right using the buttons on their remote controls, although the other three buttons work just fine. This happens in our ancient $29 DVD player, in our brand new $1,000 blu-ray player and in everything in between.
I've looked at the programing and cannot find any difference between the buttons that work and the one that doesn't. The design preview perfectly and to add confusion a previous version of this disc (I had to link one timeline to new media) plays perfectly in any player.
I'm stumped. I'd be panicked except for the fact that, post sign-off, the client has decided to make just one more little change in the video, so I have another couple of days.
    Thanks, JP

It wasn't until you said "Button Routing" that it clicked. THAT sounded like it was exactly the problem, so I trolled HELP and found the answer. Thanks for the very useful stab in the dark.

  • Burned dvd plays on computers, but not dvd players - help?

    Hi,
I'm a noobie. I made a movie in final cut pro 5, then converted it to a quicktime movie, then saved it in idvd. The movie plays on all computers, but it's not recognized by dvd players connected to tv's. My questions are:
    1. What's a quick way to burn onto a dvd that will be recognized by dvd players that aren't on computers?
    2. What's the best way to save the best quality of my final cut movie to a dvd that I can play anywhere?
    thanks!

    Hi Noob:
    Welcome to discussions!
There is no sure-fired way to record to a DVD that every DVD player will recognize. Just too many of them out there.
Try burning a the lowest speed possible (1x to 4x )using a reliable disk like Verbatim DVD-R.
This is worth reading: (I copied it from one of Len Goff's discussion threads...)
Suggest you create a disc image and then burn the DVD. File/Save As Disc Image...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=164927
This will isolate any encoding/burning issues you may encounter. Once the disc image is created, double-click the .img and burn the virtual disc that should appear on your desktop, using Toast to burn the DVD. Disk Utility to burn the .img file. Usually, you can select a burning speed in Disk Utility.
There are variations to this process based on which OS X you are using...
Open Disk Utility (in Utilities folder in Applications folder), click on the virtual disc (maybe the .img) in the left-hand window. Click the Burn icon. A new window should drop down and your SuperDrive tray will open after clicking the Burn icon. Insert a recordable DVD. (Verbatim DVD-R preferred by me.) Click the Close button. Wait. Select a burn speed. Then click the Burn button.
-->If the virtual disk selection won't allow you to click the Burn icon, use the .img file instead. This may have changed in 10.3.9 and did change in Tiger.
Also, you can use DVD Player to play the virtual disk to check your iDVD project before burning to DVD. Launch DVD Player. File/Open VIDEO_TS (Open DVD Media... in Player 4.6). Find the VIDEO_TS folder and open that. (The audio folder is for DVD-Audio disks.)

  • Audio goes in and out of sync when burned dvd played on standard DVD player

I made a short film recently (7:00 mins) and once completed and burned to DVD using iDVD and DVD Studio Pro about 20% of the clips have out of sync audio. Just slightly out of sync. Some more noticeable than others.
Playing off the timeline syncs perfect, the exported prores 422 mov file syncs perfectly, and if the finished DVD is played on my mac or my pc the sync is perfect, but when played on a standard dvd player to my TV I get the syncing problem, but only at certain points through the film. As I said, about 20% of it. The rest of the film is fine.
Shot on Canon 5d mkII - footage converted to prores 422 1920x1080. Audio recorded on Zoom H4N with some ADR recorded on logic pro. Audio synced manually using clapper board reference. Using a 27'iMac with current OSX update as of 14 March 2011. Edited in FCP 7, exported to proress 422, burned to DVD with current iDVD and DVD Studio Pro, all current versions and updates.
I have tried exporting to mpg4 and mpg2 - no joy. I checked audio bit rates and discovered the logic recorded stuff was 44.1khz as opposed to 48, so I converted to 48 but still no fix.
    I am STUMPPED
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers
    Dallas

Should I convert just the clips which are out of sync in the DVD, or all of theclips in the FCP timeline?
If that is the issue, wouldn't I have the problem in the final prores mov as opposed to just when its played dvd to tv?
Ill try it though. Its an odd problem so its likely to have an odd solution. Willing to try anything at this point.
    Thank you.

  • Burned dvd plays audio but not video

I just completed the first part of a wedding video and it burned fine. I just finished the second part and it looks and plays fine in imovie and idvd preview. However when I burn it and try to play it the dvd will only play the audio. the dvd starts like it's going to be fine, but the video stalls on the first frame and the audio continues. does anyone have any suggestions. I am trying to avoid starting over, but I don't know what else to do. I tried eliminating the first clip in case it was corrupt, but that didn't help.

First thing you might do is in iDVD, use the menu option to "Delete encoded assetts" in case the previous garbage from the last project or burn is messing things up. If that doesn't work here are my standard list of things I do when I have issue or even just before I go to burn a new project...
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
    Reboot your Mac.

  • Burned DVD plays in Mac computer, but not in other players??

I burned a DVD using iDVD and the disk played in my computer. I then tried to play it in my PC and also on my home DVD players and it didn't work. I burned another DVD and the same result happened: worked in Mac, but no where else. I originally used a miniDV disk and then modified it before sending it to iDVD for burning.
    Why doesn't it play elsewhere?
How can I burn a DVD that will play in others players?
    Thanks in advance,
    Brad

Well, you need to check whether your DVD can play a "minus" DVD. Older ones can't. And Mac can only burn "minus" DVDs.
After I started making DVDs, we had to go buy a new player -- that was a year ago, and now we have to buy another new one because that one has a problem with sound, sigh.
this is a very expensive hobby! But I love it! Good luck.

  • Burned DVD plays on Macs, doesn't play on windows????

Hi, got a quick question and I think there is an easy answer but I am missing it.
I burned my project to DVD and it works perfectly on all of the Macs in the company. The problem is it doesn't play on any of the Windows machines or in standard DVD players.
What gives? Anyone know what is causing this?
    Thanks in advance.
    DG

It's almost always the choice of media.
Suggest you look at the label and then google for comments about that supplier.
You can also search here for terms that are similar to your problem. Unfortunately, hardly anyone ever comes back, closes their discussions, and tells us if they solve their problems so there may not be any helpful threads.
Hope you get better advice soon. give the wonks a day or tow, sometimes DVDSP is a low traffic area.

  • Serious Q...basic softW imac few mos old, does nero burned DVDs play?

This is driving my crazy....the imac seems to work just fine, but I'm wondering about the drive. I have basic software...no extra software included. A friend burned a 120minute/4.7gb DVD+R sony disk with close to 600 minutes of uncompressed video...about 24 videos at about 25minutes a piece and 175mg a piece...in avi format. When I open the disk it shows the avi files on top and mp3 music files on the bottom. Strangely, he said there was no need to compress them despite the time lenght. I don't know that much about them but he swears there is nothing wrong with the disks. He says he burned them with Nero.
I have tried everything. I am tired of downloading stuff. I've downloaded divX player and converter, divX Doctor II, 3ivx, windows media componants for QuickTime. I went to the Nero site to download more crap to tell me if Nero burned disks are playable in this drive but i have no CD to burn the image I am supposed to burn and all that blah blah blah.
Can anyone with some proffesional knowledge take a stab at what is going on?
I suggested he should have compressed the files because they are too long for the disk but he says no...I'm wrong. When I try to fix them so divX will play them, they say there is no video but he swears he checked them.
I have been trying to figure this out all day.
I just want a simple answer.

ok....but there are 24- 25minute videos...each one is 175mb, all on the same disk...plus it is showing 18 audio files that are mp3s totaling 396mb and with video files that puts it around 4,600mb. That's almost 600 minutes of time not including the 18 songs. Doesn't that matter on a 120 minute disk?
I don't need to edit them. I was just wanting to play them.
I tried using divX Doctor II to do whatever it takes to allow the divX player to play them but when I added one of the avi video files to the divX Doctor II to fix it, it said Error code 2048: No movie found.
At one point I tried to rip them but they were showing up as just a few kb. When I try playing they are a few second long and just a green screen, whereas the song files will play.
I'm not so sure that there is even video on here....just the file names and the songs. How can I find out for sure? As for asking him to put them in another format, I am not speaking to him because he was being rather rude...so it's not so much the importance of the videos....but I would just like to know if there is a way to know for sure what is on that disk. divX Doctor II says there is no movie on there. How reliable is that?
    Thanks!

  • Burned dvd plays with line at top saying "MARKER 1"

    hi
i exported a final cut express hd project as a fce quicktime movie, with the selction of "all markers" to be exported as well (i assumed this would add the little chapter markers i put in fcehd). however, when i used dvd studio pro 2, the program didn't detect the markers, so i created them myself in dvd studio pro 2. then, when i burned the dvd and played it back on my computer, a white line at the top of the screen says "marker _" for each chapter. how can i get rid of these? are the from final cut's exported movie because i chose to add all markers, or are they from dvd studio pro when i added chapter markers? thanks in advance.

A simple work-around (your version of DVD-SP does not understand markers which were generated by a later version of FCE) is as follows:-
Open the Quicktime file of your playout in Quicktime. Turn off the "text track" and re-save (or save a new reference version). Use the new file to generate your .mpeg2. Replace the video track in DVD SP2 with this 'clean' one. Do put your chapter makers in by hand (or keep the ones you've already set).
Hope this makes sense. The important part is to turn off the "text-track" in Quicktime Pro. Make sure you can't see the white header on screen before you go any further!
