Burned Dvd reads DATA DISC when I try to play it on TV

I archived a project from I-DVD to a portable hard drive. When I copy from the hard drive to a disc and try to play it on my TV the player reads "DATA DISC" and won't play on the DVD player. It will play on my computer. How do I get it to play on the TV?

... you can use Disk Utility to burn the disk image to writable media in the correct format.
Or you may wish to consider using Toast for this if you happen to already own the software. At least that's what I prefer using over apple's disc utility (however either will suffice).

Failed while scanning for CD / DVD drives, error 2380.
Error while opening iTunes CD driver. This could be caused by a corrupted iTunes file or a conflict with other older CD burning applications, either currently installed or previously installed and uninstalled incorrectly.
With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:

I get "disc burner or software not found" when I try to burn a playlist.

I am now getting "disc burner or software not found" when I try to burn a playlist from iTunes version 10.6.1.7 on Windows 7 PC. I've not added any new burner software or made any software changes of any kind. I have NERO 8 and I checked the "burn rights" is set for "everyone".
Is the any solution?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

New Super Drive in iMac won't read DVD-R Data discs from windows machine.

Bought iMac 2.4 GHz 10/2007, the drive failed to burn DVD's about %70 of the time. Reading was very slow. Took to Apple Store in January, drive replaced. New drive burns and reads, except for TDK DVD-R data discs from my Sony Vaio (movies work). For these it gives alert "Blank DVD." When opened in finder it identifies media as a CD.
Someone had this problem earlier in the forum. No answer was posted. My Dell reads the dics fine. Stranger still, I hooked up an external LaCie 1394 DVD-R/RW+CD to the iMac to read the discs and got the same error. I hooked the same drive to my Dell and it read the same disc fine. Also, Dynex DVD+R and CD's work fine.
It does not seem to be a straight hardware issue. More like a device driver problem maybe?
Phone support suggested transferring all my data to DVD+R dics, but that is kind of a pain. Might upgrade to OS 10.5 help? Thanks

No suggestion but maybe some sharing of your misery. I bought a new 24" iMac 2.8 ghz on 2/24. Two hours after purchase, I put a DVD in the slot and nothing. Twenty five minutes with tech support, trying several different options to eject the disk, got me nowhere. They told me I would have to bring the machine in for repair. I did that, and magically, the DVD player is recognized when he (at the Apple store) boots the machine and it ejects the disk. He said the machine was fine. I said that it wasn't if I had to take the computer for a ride in my truck every time the optical drive doesn't work.
I'm waiting for a diagnostic to be run but I have my doubts about support in this area. I believe that Apple will say that they found nothing wrong and it's user error (not hardly, but it's probably easier than fixing the bug with the optical drives). This is my first ride with a Mac and I expected it to be wonderful. It's not a very smooth ride so far.

Sounds like it could be a problem with your DVD drive. Usually it would be a problem with the lens. Since as far as I can tell it is ejecting discs right away, the usual fix of a cleaning disc is not possible.
If it is a slot loader like the offical Apple SuperDrive, you may be able to try a crude clean with the Wii Lens Cleaning Kit, although designed for the Nintendo Wii, it should work to a degree with other slot loaders.
Due to the design of the cleaner, it should remain in the drive until it is time to remove it. Though usually a dirty lens will still read some discs.
However, if the lens is sufficiently clean then the only other possibilities are a calibration problem or a hardware failure.
Certain lower quality drives can deviate from optimal calibration of the read laser over time, though with some drives it is possible to fix this, the fix has the potential to do more harm than good.
If it's a hardware failure, whether it can be fixed depends upon the type of fault, but new external drives are cheaper than most repair costs these days.
I'm not 100% familar with how OS X handles Disc drives, so I can't rule out the possibility of a software issue.

I suspect that the issue is in the TV's DVD player. Do you have the opportunity to play the disc in other TV DVD player setups?
There is a remote possibility that your player may require the presence of a folder named AUDIO_TS along with the VIDEO_TS Folder
for compatibility purposes. This is not usually the case, but might be.
To do that, you would have to use the Premiere Elements burn to folder for your Timeline to give you the VIDEO_TS Folder in the saved folder.
To get the AUDIO_TS Folder, you create a new empty folder on the computer desktop and name that folder AUDIO_TS.
Then you take the VIDEO_TS Folder and the AUDIO_TS Folder in the ImgBurn program to produce the DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc.

But, to save detours in the troubleshooting, please determine if your TV DVD player issue exists in more than just one TV DVD player setup.

You must boot from another drive in order to erase the system drive.
Try starting up with Snow Leopard DVD inserted and C depress. That should get you booted from the DVD. Then start Disk Utitlity from DVD and erase the disk then you should be able to install Snow Leopard.
Remember that everything will be removed from the disk when you erase it and install Snow Leopard so backup first.

Sure sounds like malware, unles you installed something from a questionable site, then it's still malware but in a payware form as playing DVDs is free on Mac's.
Unless the DVD has software on it perhaps?
Does this work on any movie DVD or is this a special kind of DVD with software on it from someplace?

Every webserver that receives a request from your browser is able to determine the HTTP USER AGENT information unless it has been removed by some software (e.g. firewall) before the request was trasmitted.

Front Row blacks out when I try to play DVDs or movies

Those same DVDs and movies play fine in DVD Player and Quicktime respectively. But when I try and play them in Front Row, I keep getting a black screen on the TV. It's only started happening in the last couple of days, so I suspect a bad update. I have played movies before in Leopard's Front Row without any problems.
Interestingly, when the screen goes black (and the TV tells me it's lost its signal), if I connect in via screen sharing from my laptop, the screen comes back immediately. If I disconnect from screen sharing, the picture on my Mac Mini goes dead again.
My setup is a Mac Mini connected to a Panasonic HD Plasma screen via a VGA lead (as HDMI doesn't work properly).
