Burned DVD shows blank

Hi,
I have searched the foruns, but i only found old threads abou this.  Most seemed to point to the need of servicing the Superdrive, but i am not sure this is my case.
The problem is: a DVD burned in a PC with JPEGs shows blank in my MacBook Pro.  My old MacBook can see files and folders inside, can the PC.
But: i just burned a DVD in my old MacBook, and my MacBook Pro reads it fine.
So, my question would be: could there be a problem with the PC burning?  If yes, how come the old MB reads it, but not the new MBP?  If the problem is then in the MBP Superdrive, how come it reads the DVD recorded by the old MB?
Thanks a lot.

I asked a similar question to this one, here's my thread
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=796187&tstart=0
If this is right then we can't burn it to a dvd and play it on our Tv's but we can burn to a DVD and use that as a backup or storage.

  • Finder thinks a burned DVD is blank

After I've created and burned a DVD with iDVDand then try to play it on my computer is does not play. The computer thinks it's blank and asks what to do. If I select "Open in Finder" it mounts and is titled "Untitled DVD". This may have started after the upgrade to 10.6.3.1.1.
These DVDs will play on other DVD players such my G4, a Dell and my TV DVD player.
    Thanks for the help.

After futher checks, it appears as if my DVD drive is half broken. It can burn DVD/CDs. It can read and play commercial DVDs. It can read and play commercial Audio Disks. It can read and play a MP3 disk.
What it can not do is:
Play a burned DVD. It will not startup from a Mac OS 10.5/10.6 Install disk.
To see if the 10.5.3 upgrade caused the problem I tried to install 10.5 on a spare HD. It would read the disk and allow me to start the install, it would read the various install packages and write them to the targeted HD but when it came time to restart and install, it would restart from my main HD and not from the DVD. If I set the startup drive to the DVD it would default to the main drive.
I don't understand this!! It's like being a little bit Pregnant.
    Thanks

  • Burned dvd shows part of title

When I view my Burned DVD on my tv my Music Video title is cut-off and my subtitles are cut off. How do I get it so they are shown on my tv. Also the clips are in widescreen mode. Can I format them to be in full screen mode?
    Thanks

    Guys--
It's not a magic button that pushes everthing where it needs to be....
Read Bear's post again--As long as you put everything inside the "safe area guideline box", it shouldn't be cut off when shown on most TVs. Anything outside the box is subject to T.V. overscan.
In addition, when you're creating photo montages, titles and graphics within your projects, etc., make sure you take this into account. Many of heads, bodies, graphics, titles have been cut off because people don't account for TV overscan.
    Hope this helps.

  • DVD shows blank pics during playback of slideshows

I am trying to create a DVD using iDVD to playback pictures. I have 3 slideshows and whenever I preview the DVD within iDVD, the pictures show up as expected. Whenever I burn the disc or create a disk image (I did this after 3 unsuccessful burns) for playback, my main menu shows up fine but when I go to select a slide show to play, all I see is a black blank screen. I set my slide show to transition every 5 secs and I see the DVD player (Oppo BDP-83 and Apple's built in DVD player) counting down the time and moving the cursor left and right appropriately moves to the next photo...albeit blank.
I went ahead and did a workaround by creating the slideshows as serperate movies in iMovie, but would like the DVD I'm making to have the flexibility to have the pictures controlled via a remote too. Any help?

    Hi
There are many things with SlideShows and iDVD
    • 99 photo limit per show
    • use of transitions most often results in bad quality
    • manual shift of photos - no not with iDVD
(I would assemble a PowerPoint serie for manual directed shows)

  • This is about the still image size changing from what I see on the computer monitor and what the burned DVD shows on the TV

I have Prem.El 12 and have used PE4 for years.  I have a new PC that runs Win7Pro.  The still images on the computer monitor are within the "safe margins".  The still images after the movie has been burned to a disk are MUCH smaller on the TV screen.  Is this an issue of 16:9 vs 4:3 ratios?  My TV is 4:3.  Can I tell PE12 to make the movie a 4:3?

Although I have seen your post of today in my Inbox Email Notifications, that post has not yet appears in this thread. It will probably will sooner or later. But, to keep things moving along....this is a copy of what I am seeing as your message of today in my Indox Email Notifications
Thank you for your patience in the time it is taking me to get back to you.
I am still trying to buy some DVD-RW discs and will hopefully do that in a
bit.  Meanwhile, I have more info for you and some simple (I hope)
questions.  If you want to insert your answers, that would be fine.
My camera (for stills and video) is set to the 4:3 ratio.  It is capable of
being set to a 16:9 ratio if I wanted to do that.  I looked in its TOOLS
    menu and saw this info.
My TV is definitely a 4:3 TV.  (I measured it with my tape measure and
divided W/L to get 1.33)  The TV can show a 16:9 movie and just adds the
black bars on the top and bottom.  Question: What will my old 4:3 movies
look like on a 16:9 TV whenever we buy one of those?
It seems to me that I want to set PE12 to the NTSC DV Standard you
    mentioned.
I do NOT know how to “size your photos so that each has a 4:3 aspect”,
unless you mean doing that in Photoshop Elements, which I know how to do
    (*see below)
I had NOT considered that I would need to watch the preset for the
‘Publish+Share’ step; so that’s good to know (I copied and pasted your info
    for later use).
BTW, years ago when I had difficulties with my XP computer working on PE4
(had only 2 GB RAM), an Adobe tech told me to resize my photos * to have a
720 pixel width (the height would be automatically adjusted) to lower the
file size to something my computer could handle without crashing.  (That
was back in the good ol’ days when Adobe support would actually talk with
their customers and try to help them in the first month)
My new computer has 16GB RAM.  Do you think I still need to reduce file
size?  One does lose some sharpness in the resizing process…..however,
these videos I’m making are travelogues and are for a fun way to view pics
and videos of a trip…nothing Earth shattering….and just a hobby to keep me
    off the streets.
I truly appreciate the time you take to help me (and others).  I was even
tempted to try to install my old PE4 on my new computer just to be able to
    enjoy my hobby again.
    My reply to the above....
    1. If you camera is giving you 4:3 photos and your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 is running on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, then leave
the photos as is unless you have a lot of photos and each has pixel dimensions sizes way over 1920 x 1080 pixels that are giving your computer resource issues. If you have to down size them because of computer resources, then copy the photos to a computer desktop folder and also create an empty folder on the computer desktop.
    a. Photoshop Elements Editor, File Menu/Process Multiple Files.
    Process Files form Folder
Source - browse to and select the computer desktop folder with photos to be resized
Destination - browse to and select the empty computer desktop folder
    Image Size
Check Mark Next To Resize Images
(no check mark next to Constrain Proportions)
Type in Width = 1000  (set units for pixels)
Type in Height = 750 (set unites for pixels)
    File Size
Check Mark Next to Convert Files To
               Set for JPEG High Quality
The above should work fine for a NTSC DV Standard project with a burn to DVD disc with preset NTSC_Dolby DVD (4:3 video).
    2. With regard to the TV Set and 16:9 video....when you have the DVD-player attached to the TV, do you have the opportunity to bring up a display of menus with
controls for Picture and Aspect Ratio? From what you have written so far, it looks like the answer is no. I am not sure how your TV DVD
    player will handle 16:9.
Best do a mini test run
    1. Project preset set manually to NTSC DV Widescreen (please refer to post 1 link)
    A few photos sized for 1600 x 1200
In the Premiere Elements project, use the Safety Margins inner rectangle for text placement
    Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc with preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
See what that looks like on your TV DVD player.
If you discovered that your current TV DVD player can be set for a 16:9 display, then I have a preferred workflow for
NTSC DV Widescreen which typically gives best possible results. Hints of things to come.
Please review and consider. Thanks for the follow ups.

  • Premiere Element Freezes When Tried to Burn DVD

My computer meets and exceeds the requirements for Premiere Element 4. It also has about 50 GB of free disk space. I put together a file (about 30 minutes) consisting of stills and video clips, sound tracks, effects, and transition. When I tried to burn a DVD the first time, the program froze at the first instance of "burn" after completion of encoding and compiling. I removed Premiere Element and then reloaded it. I was able to burn a DVD. When I tried to burn again after making a minor change (to some text on still images), I then experienced the same problem even though with the same remove/reload routine.
From your website, I tried to sort out if the problem was due to my project or my computer system. I could create a DVD folder of a simple file but not a folder for my project. So it seemed that my project file was the problem. I then took the suggested approach, i.e. to make DVD folders of segments of my project and they all worked.
Finally, I was able to export my project to my hard disk as an AVI file and then load the file as a new project. Then burning a DVD was uneventful. The burned DVD showed that the file was about 1.6 GB in length.
Would appreciate your suggestions on how to identify the glitch that prevented me from burning a DVD in the straightforward manner. I might add that I had burned DVDs of projects of almost identical composition and length and had experienced no such problem.

From your description, it sounds like either the photos were larger than 1000x750 pixels in size and/or that you needed to clear your Media Cache (in Premiere Elements Edit/Preferences).

  • Burned dvd not showing name or files.

I have burned an archive dvd by copying files onto the blank dvd and selecting the "burn" button from the finder window. Everything burns correctly and once the dvd has finished being verified, I have my uniquely named dvd and files displayed.
However, once the dvd is ejected, and then re-inserted, the dvd no longer has the name I have given it, and shows no files in the window.
How do I correct this? Are all the archive dvds I've burned no good?

The above burned dvds mount correctly on other drives and files can be copied from them.
How do I get my drive to recognize these dvds as having been burned and contain data?

  • Blank dvds show up as not blank

I am having trouble burning DVDs.  MBP 10.6.8  Never had any problem till about a week ago.  I insert a known blank Sony DVD-R, the drive seems to shutter a bit more than it has in the past then the disk icon shows up on the desktop as usual.  Add items, hit burn, 1 second later error message “Untitled DVD” can’t be burned because the disc is read-only and can’t be modified (error code 0x80020042), disk ejects.  When I look under "About this Mac" >Disc Burning and insert a new known blank Sony DVD-R, hit refresh, and look under Media: Blank: shows NO, Erasable: shows NO, Overwritable shows No, but Appendable: show Yes.  To make matters more cloudy CDs burn just fine and I can read all expected medias.  Only odd thing I have done in this time period was set the computer to book into 64-bit.  I tried booting 32-bit but still have the same problem.  Any thoughts?  Thanks in advance.

This may be relatively straightforward; either your blanks are incompatible, or there's an issue with your MBP. Before visiting your local Apple Store, try burning various media; if nothing burns, then you'll want to have a professional at the Apple Store look at it. On the other hand, if changing media solves the problem, stay away from the offending disks. (This has happened to me, twice.)
When you visit the Apple Store, come with a few blanks that you use so they can replicate the problem.

  • How to burn slide show to a dvd to watch on any tv

how do you burn slide show to a disk to watch on any tv

If you only have PSE, then output your slideshow as a wmv file and use whatever  software you have to create the video dvd, even something like Windows DVD maker. If you also have Premiere Elements, then send the slideshow there for finishing.

how to burn slide show too a dvd-r in web superdrive plugged into the usb port

I think this link will offer some good insight. I would recommend moving the library to an external HD if you are already using iPhoto on your MBP. If you do decide to move the library directly to your MBP just make sure you are using a different enough name for it that your MBP can easily locate each library independently.

  • Burning slide show on DVD.

Have P E 5.  Wish to create and display slide shows on HDTV.  Have created a show, but just learned that my version cannot burn the show to DVD.  Am I missing something?  Are there other options?  Does the latest version 10 have this feature?
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Fred

No version of PSE has this function, since Adobe wants you to buy Premiere Elements.
If you have a dvd burner you must have some kind of software you can use for this, even if it's only windows movie maker. You may also have gotten something like Roxio. Check to see what you have on your computer already. Then just output your slideshow as a wmv file and use whatever it is to create the video disc.
However, note that PSE does not create HD output.

  • How to Burning TV Shows to DVD?

Is it possible to burn TV shows you bought at the ITune Store onto a DVD?

To make a backup on Data CD/DVD: yes
To play them on a DVD-player: no

  • Exported slideshow from Iphoto11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine but show stops 1/2way through because DVD has 2 chapters. How do I eliminate chapters?

I exported slideshow from Iphoto 11 to IDVD 7.12 so I could burn DVD for play on DVD player. Fine, but then when playing on DVD player show stops about 12 way and starts over. Seems there are 2 chapters in show. I wan t show to play straight through until end. How do I elimiante chapters or solve problem. Thanks. Bob Low

    Try this workflow:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the  File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option.  This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image and launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding was good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
Play the disk image with DVD Player and see if you get the same start over half way thru.
Did you create the slideshow in iPhoto in the slideshow mode?
or were you in an album and then used the Share ➙ iDVD menu option?  What I'm trying to find out is if the slideshow in iDVD is a movie file or an iDVD slideshow with the photos from iPhoto? If it's the latter how many photos in the slideshow?
