Burned DVD works fine in a mac but audio out of sync in a DVD player!?

The titles kinda says it all. Nearly. I've made my most complicated (for me) DVD to date. It's a concert DVD shot in anamorphic. I've edited in FCP and exported with compressor with all the appropriate settings, to mpeg 2. I've built the DVD in DVDSP with an intro from motion, motion menus etc. It previews fine and looks outstanding (if I do say so myself!). I burned the finished folder with Toast 8 ( as a UDF) and the burned DVD plays under DVD player on all my macs faultlessly. When I put the DVD in a normal DVD player, the audio is SERIOUSLY out of sync (the dancing is out of time let alone the lip sync) and the picture is stretched wide, like it's trying for 2.35.1 when it's only 16.9 or something.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? All help appreciated.
Gareth

Double check to make sure that you edited in Anamorphic and also encoded as 16:9 video not 4:3 - also make sure you set the Track to 16:9 Letterbox in DVD SP.
What encoding rates did you use for the video and audio? Sometimes if the rates are too high it can cause drifts.
On the audio side, did you export the FCP as self contained and make the audio AC3? Also you can try just exporting the audio as an AIF and encode that as an AC3.
How did you burn the DVD (Speed and Media used?) Sometimes bad burns/media can cause issues.

    My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with two Macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network and it's telling me I'm connected but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

    Thank you, I've tried the support tips (resetting the network, checking security settings, etc.) and rebooting the network devices several times to no avail. I've actually been working on this for several days (when I can afford to have the network down).
    What I have to determine is what has changed in the setup...from when it WAS working just fine with all devices.

  • Large .dv file plays fine in Quicktime, but audio out of sync in iMovie??

    hi,
    i'm trying to convert some old analog 8mm tapes to digital. to do this, i'm using a sony trv320 camcorder with firewire feeding iMovie '08. i've imported an entire 2 hour tape into iMovie, and everything is fine except that at some point, the audio gets out of sync from the picture. i've opened the huge 24 GB .dv file in Quicktime, and everything is in sync, so I assume this is some kind of problem related to iMovie. i've done lots of searching on this and have made sure that the camcorder is sending 16 bit audio out. i also tried using mpeg streamclip to split the huge .dv file into smaller parts, but this resulted in the same audio sync problem (which is weird).
    is my only option to manually import my tapes 10 minutes at a time? please say no
    the most puzzling thing about this is that the huge .dv file is perfectly in sync all the way through when playing back in Quicktime.
    i'm at a loss!! hope someone can help.

  • 16 bit audio out of sync with final DVD video

    My completed movie plays back fine in iMovie HD. But when I watch the DVD on the telly, the audio drifts out of sink in the last few clips. I have checked and double checked the final clips in iMovie and there they playback fine.
    The only I can think of is that I have a music clip just before these final clips. Could that be pushing them out of sync? They don't overlap, though.
    I have burnt using best performance and best quality and they produce the same result.
    My original input recording was 16 bit, so it can't be the typical 12 bit problem.

    Try building it again but before you do so Go to the Advanced menu and delete the encoded assets. That "ghost" track may still be in the project somewhere and maybe deleting the assets and re-encoding will clean it up.

  • My Airport works fine with my Macs but not with Windows netbook

    I bought my first Apple in 1987 and have never owned a Windows computer. I bought an MSI Wind netbook (too long of a story to go into here) and I can't seem to get it to recognize my Airport network. I have three Macs, an iPad and two iPhones that have no trouble getting on the network. Using this Windows machine is like learning a foreign language. I have no idea where to begin troubleshooting. It has XP installed and is a used machine. It seems to work great in every other aspect except for this.
    If anyone could point me to some step by step instructions or have any suggestions, I would appreciate it. I have a feeling it's something simple, but I am in foreign territory! Thanks.

    Ok, I guess we will just have to assume that the wireless capability of your netbook is functional.
    Let's start by using Windows XP's automated network troubleshooting feature, called Network Diagnostics.
    To use Network Diagnostics, follow these steps:
    1. Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
    2. Click the link to Use Tools to view your computer information and diagnose problems, and then click Network Diagnostics in the list on the left.
    3. When you click Scan your system, Network Diagnostics gathers configuration information and performs automated troubleshooting of the network connection.
    4. When the process is completed, look for any items that are marked "FAILED" in
    red, expand those categories, and then view the additional details about what the testing showed.
    Please post back your results.

    Please anyone could suggest what the solution could be?

    But my 1 tb hdd is already formatted via ex fat which can work on both mac and Windows no limitation of file size also like if we use ntfs or fat it has a restriction of 4gb file size.

  • New project to DVD works fine, but sharing to a Blu ray fails, with a error message "video rendering error 60."  What is that and how do I fix it?

    getting an error message "video rendering error 60" when burning a new final cut pro project to Blu ray.  Burning to regular DVD works fine.  I have burned many other projects successfully to blu ray.  What is this message and how do I fix it?

    If this same timeline can be exported to other file formats and can be shared successfully to DVD, possibly it's the longer render time in the Blu Ray processing that is the problem. In the Finder in Applications, right click Final Cut Pro dot app, choose Get Info and verify that Prevent App Nap is checked. If it isn't, check it and try again.

    Try Restarting / rebooting  your Mac before doing anything more drastic..

    1. An explanation for what? There is indeed a support number (which you can find on this page in "Contact Us" and you are limited to one support call in the first 90 days and if you have the AppleCare you have more than that available, so I'm not sure what you are whinning about (and it is whinning, trust me).
    2. http://www.kelleytown.com/ikelleytown.htm#firewire
    However, since I wrote that I've also found this link pretty well explaining why firewire is the only way to go as well (it's about video but the same principles apply to the iPod:
    http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;1847886895
    3. Your computer is constantly changing whether you know it or not. Do you not apply any MS upgrades (or have them automatically applied for you?) Do you not have any antivirus on your machine (which applies its own upgrades)? Do you not, ever, ever, ever, open any email message, or download that cute little movie your friend sent you, or plug in any other device (like a digital camera or flashcard reader) or any of the other hundreds of things that change the computer environment.
    It would be tempting to conclude a priori that the update you applied is now the problem, but if so, how do you explain the millions of others who apply the update without issues? The difference is in the software and settings on the witches brew that is a PC. So in a sense you are right in that the old firmware worked with the mess that is your computer and now the new one doesn't -- but it ain't up to Apple to fix your computer, and impossible for them to control the environment (oh, I guess unless you buy a Mac -- "coincidentally" Mac's use firewire for the iPod :>)
    I dunno -- when 90% of all issues (100% of all connection issues) can be solved with the Adaptec 4300 I tend to have a lot less patience with folks. If you want to use the mess that is USB then you'll just have to deal with the fact that MS screwed it up big time and become more knowledgable on how to handle the problems.

    All,
    A very interesting NOTE to this thread. In order to try and get the "ignore permissions" box to show up in GET INFO (so I could execute Matt the Magician's solution to file sharing issues)-- I ran the terminal command for disabling ACLs on my internal HD / start up disk (as indicated in the linked thread to BDAqua's forum).
    Although I understand that this was useless for disabling permissions on the start up disk (as everyone here pointed out) and allowing me to see the "ignore permissions" check box - somehow it did seem to fix my file sharing problem...and that was the root problem I wanted solved in the first place! After doing the terminal command and a quick reboot, I went in and tested file sharing on the chosen directory and I can create new files or work from existing files in the directory, with both users being able to modify / and save from both machines and each machine sees the revisions and can build from them. Bottom line - I'm stoked and want to thank everyone for their help.
    The only other tweak I made was going over to my wife's machine and instead of using her log in / password, I just used my name and password to connect to my main machine that was sharing directories. Maybe that's what fixed the problem or the ACL disable but either way...I'm up and running the way I want to be.
    Hope this thread helps anyone else who has these file sharing / permissions issues with Leopard. Especially for anyone wanting to do such a simple file sharing set up between 2 computers. I wish I understood exactly which tweak fixed the problem, but at least it works the way I want now.
    So happy to be done w/this one!
    Thx everyone. Any additional input on what solved it is welcome, so my curiosity is quelled...

  • Painting works fine under OS X, but vanishes under Linux (Fedora 6)

    I've written some code to draw arrays and objects, which I'm using in the CS2 class I teach (where the students are learning about references). It works fine under OS X, but (to my horror) when I tried using it in front of the students in our Linux labs, the diagrams would disappear (i.e., the window would become blank) after a few milliseconds. Sometimes we could get them to stick around by resizing the window, but this was not reliable.
    I should note that my OS X testing is under Java 1.5 (because Macs don't have 1.6 yet) and the Linux (Fedora 6, I believe) is using Java 1.6.
    The code is given below. There are two classes, ViewPanel and ObjectView. Run the main() method in ViewPanel. Both of these are in the cs2tools package.

    Put your posted code inside code tags, or things like array element access expressions using common indices such as 'i' will be interpreted as italic by the forum software. Code tags are the word 'code' between square braces at the start and '/code' between square braces at the end.
    The fact that your code worked on a Mac is dumb luck. The code has a fatal flaw that causes the behavior you see on the Linux machines. Incidentally, Windows shows the same 'disappearing' problem.
    The error is in your draw() and drawPointers() methods. Both methods call
    panel.getGraphics()There is no guarantee that the Graphics object returned by this call is the same Graphics object being used to paint to the screen at any given moment. On a Mac, it appears to be. Elsewhere it clearly is not. You should be passing along the Graphics object handed to you in the paintComponent() method. This is the same Graphics object associated with the screen.
    protected void paintComponent(Graphics g) {
            super.paintComponent(g);
            graphics = (Graphics2D) g;
            fontRenderContext = graphics.getFontRenderContext();

                view.draw(g);
            for (ObjectView view : views) {
                view.drawPointers(g, objects, views);
        } public void draw(Graphics g) {
            try {
                Graphics2D graphics = (Graphics2D) g;
    public void drawPointers(Graphics g, List<Object> objects, List<ObjectView> views) {

  • Facetime works fine on my iphone, but will not work on my MBA.

    Facetime works fine on my iphone, but will not work on my MBA.   Keeps telling me "unable to verify address" and says it is sending me a verification link to my email address but I never get anything.   Crazy.
    After a while it tells then me that it cannot verify my email address because of a network connection  ("Could not verify the email address. Please check your network connection and try again. ")
    Does anyone have any ideas?
