Burned one DVD but cannot burn a second

I successfully "burned" one DVD-R using the "burn" selection within iPhoto. I maxed out the 4.7 GB of DVD disk space and put most of my library on it. When I went to burn a second DVD with the rest of the photos that I didn't get on the first disc, I keep getting the following message (note that I get this EXACT message regardless if I try to burn one photo or hundreds):
INSUFFICIENT DISK SPACE - There is not enough free space on the selected volume to perform the library export. it is estimated that you need at least an additional 2597.94 GB of space
It tells me I need that amount of space even if I select one photo.
I tried closing iPhoto. I tried rebooting. I tried a different blank DVD.

First try repairing disk permissions with Disk Utility. Next, boot into Safe Mode and try there.
Lastly, backup the library and try the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache files that are located in the User/Library/Application Support/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding the the Option key. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
Fix #2
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select options #1, #2 and #6.

I have reinstalled the program and still get the same erro messages when I try to burn a regular DVD.  Any ideas on how to fix this?  ( I have been burning regular DVDs for the last 4 months and have burned al leasr 15.

    ATR,
I removed the stop marker and the DVD burned the way it should.  I really appreciate the quick response.  (I am still a bit confused why the stop marker  did not cause a problem when I successfully burned a Blue Ray disc)

  • Created a movie in IMOVIE and transferred it to dvd but cannot get it to play on my dvd player.  i downloaded the free Burn program since i don't have idvd on my new mac  the dvd comes up disk error or cannot read

created a movie in IMOVIE and transferred it to dvd but cannot get it to play on my dvd player.  i downloaded the free Burn program since i don't have idvd on my new mac  the dvd comes up disk error or cannot read.  I am using a dvd-r dvd and my dvd player says that it uses this type of dvd.  Any suggestions.  I spoke to an Apple Support person who helped me burn the dvd but it still didn't work...help???

There's a difference between a data DVD, and a DVD-Video.  I believe you made a data DVD, which can't be played in a video player.  The Burn feature of the Finder can't author a DVD-V, just data discs.
I assume you made a Project, and put clips from your Event Library into the Project.  But then, how did you output your Project, using the SHARE menu?
When I pull down iMovie '11s SHARE menu, "iDVD..." is one of the options.  It's the job of iDVD to make the menu that appears when you insert a DVD into your player (that says the title, and chapters, and extras, etc.).  You need software that will made a DVD-V disc.  Lacking that, you might be able to go to Share/Export Movie... or Share/Export using QuickTime... to get your video into a format that software like Roxio's Toast could burn.

  • Encore CS5 will Only Burn One DVD At A Time

Hello All , I am having a problem that I didn't have with CS4 ,If I set CS5 to burn more than one DVD it shows a hardware error after the first one , If I set CS5 to burn one DVD it works every time I only burn at 8X .This is not a major problem because it doesn't take much longer to burn them one at a time
but it would be nice to know why .
    Regards
    Kevin

Thank's for your suggestion but I have always set CS4 to burn say 10 DVDs and just change the media when prompted (only 10 days ago) in CS5 this doesn't work only the first one will burn , I am sure there is nothing wrong with my hardware is works flawlessly with all other software.

It means your file is too large to fit on a single layer disk.
Recompress to keep the overall size (audio, video and menus) below 4.5GB

  • Burned a dvd but, it will not play on my dvd player for tv

I created a slideshow with itunes music added in iphoto.  I tried the recommended free "burn for mac" software download.  It burned a dvd but, this will not play on my dvd player for tv.  What software title can i purchase that will burn my iphoto slideshow to a dvd that will play on typical home dvd player for tv AND on a windows pc?

some dvd players are very picky on what they will play some only
    play dvd+r some only dvd-r some can't play dvd+rw and or dvd-rw
dvd burnable is a pretty fragmented std.

  • Superdrive can read and burn dvds but CANNOT read or burn CDs??

My DVR-107D can read and burn DVD's, but all of a sudden it cannot even read or mount a cd. It also cannot burn CD's. I've run 2 cleaning discs, and even manually cleaned the lens. I feel it may be a software issue at this point... Any ideas?? Finder is set to open CDs and DVDs to the desktop.

    Hi
There are two lenses in the drive. It is possible for one to fail while the other still functions. I manually cleaning the lenses made no difference, it is quite possible that aspect of the drive is dead.
You may want to try from a different admin User account (and with a third party app such as Toast, in addition to Finder, iTunes, iPhoto, Disc Utility)

  • I'm not very techy, so be gentle! i am using midvd app to burn home movies to dvd from iMovie '11 version 9.0.9. It now burns the dvd but there is nothing on the disc. its not recognised by the iMac or any other dvd player.

I was using midvd app(i never had idvd) to make home movies on dvd from imovie '11 version 9.0.9 with no problems before xmas 2013. ive just tried to make a new one today and it wont work.
It seems to burn to the dvd (you can see a mark on the back of the dvd as if it has some info on it) but it wont play on imac (just says blank disc) or any other dvd player.
I have tried reinstalling midvd app and also tried 2 other dvd creator apps and the same thing happens the app says its burning and the external superdrive whirs like its doing something but it wont play.
The only thing i have done since xmas is all the updates to the operationg system and updated imovie (i didnt like the new version so went back to using the previous one)
Any ideas - i am new to all things mac!

When you export your movie from iMovie, are you choosing H.264? That is the only compression method supported by this miDVD. Youc an give this a try first:
Use Share > Export to Quicktime > Movie to Quicktime Movie > choose Options and then make your choices in Settings, etc (you can choose whatever size your video is - mine was 720 HD at that time):
If that does not work, I'd suggest going to their support site as they claim to be able to burn to DVD.... I just checked their site and here is their list of supported file types:

  • After downloading lion does not recognize blank discs or dvd´s cannot burn anything

I downloaded Lion and now my mac does not recognize any blank cd or dvd and I cannot burn anything, not with Toast 10, or with iDvd still not recognized.  Can someone help me??

    Hello
I have been trying to fix a similar issue on my wife's PowerBookG4. I cannot pin point when it started, but she noticed it a couple weeks ago when she tried burning a disc. We have come to discover that her drive will no longer mount any discs at all (blank or otherwise burned discs or software). If I had to make a guess it had to have started in the last month or so after some recent update. Maybe 10.5.2? I am not sure.
I am getting extremely frustrated with Apple though on this matter because I have been browsing multiple forums and seeing this exact issue over and over again and nobody seems to have a solution or correct diagnostic for it.
I have tried zapping PRAM, I have tried many types of discs, brands, etc. and nothing works. I know this is a Software issue, it has to be. There are a LOT of people reporting this issue. If necessary I will start linking to all the different posts that I found in the last few days.
Please post some help, ASAP. This has been a major inconvenience and I cannot believe that Apple hasn't discovered the problem with how many people have been reporting it.
    Thanks

  • Burned a DVD but has bad glitches when I played in DVD player

    Hey-
I have the rights to the dvd I am trying to burn, I was told to use disc utility to burn a copy and it did burn it but it turned out glitchy like when someone has Dish Network or Direct TV and it rains. The picture is there but freezes and glitches and the sound is kinda there too. What did I do wrong and what do I need to use or do to burn a good copy?
My friend says they may have sent me a locked copy of my dvd and that I will have to contact the place that made it for me but I would think it wouldn't have burned at all if that was the case and I sure as **** would have had to pay for the right for a locked copy.

I made a disc image saved it and burn the copy, I followed these directions:
Insert your DVD into your Mac. Most Macs will automatically launch DVD Player. Once it launches, quit it. You should see your DVD disc mounted on your Desktop.
Open Disk Utility (Applications > Utilities). Select the DVD disc from the list on the left. You will notice that there are two DVD icons--select the one slightly indented (this is the DVD itself, whereas the first one is the drive).
Click on "New Image" in the Disk Utility main window.
Choose a name and a destination from the "Save As..." window. Keep in mind that your destination should have enough space to copy the entire DVD, which can be over four gigs.
In the "Save As..." window, be sure the "Image Format" selection is set to "DVD/CD Master" and the "Encryption" selection is set to "none". Click Save.
After copying the DVD to your destination drive, return to Disk Utility. Your new Disk Image will appear in the list on the left of the Disk Utility window. Eject the original DVD disc from your Mac.
Insert a writable DVD disc into your Mac. Select your newly created Disk Image from the list on the left of the Disk Utility window. Click on "Burn" in the Disk Utility main window. Select your burn speed and whether you would like to Verify Burned Data.
You will receive confirmation once you DVD is successfully burned and you are all set with a fresh copy of your DVD disc. Simply save your new Disk Image and you can make a copy whenever you may need it.
When I played it in the DVD player, it loaded and began to play but was distored like when the TV glitches in a storm. You could see that it had attempted to burn correctly but something caused it to not turn out right and the audio was just as messed up.
I didn't use a great quality disc but my friend burned her iMovie on them just fine. They are 16x so maybe that is my problem, not sure does this help you to know what I am doing wrong???!!

  • Burned a DVD but wont play in DVD player

pretty much wat the topic says. i'm 13, i burned a few movies that i got from iTunes music store and when i popped the DVD into my DVD player i said that the playback feature was unable to be used or something like that. is there any way i can burn these to a DVD that will work in a DVD player?

I'm sorry to say, no, you can't.
Movies and TV shows purchased on iTunes can only be played on an authorized computer, or on an iPod.
The DVD that you burned is a data DVD, which is a different format than a video DVD. Burning a DVD as you did is a good idea to back up and protect your purchases, but you cannot play the DVD in a regular DVD player.
If you want to watch your purchased movies on a TV, the options are to hook up an iPod to the TV, hookup the computer to a TV, or wait for Apple's iTV product which will allow wireless streaming of video from your computer to your TV.

  • Need to re-burn a DVD, but some source files are missing. But Media Cache folder has them all.

hi all. I have PE3 and the issue is this: I needed a DVD of a project I'd completed a year ago, and I didn't have an old copy of the DVD. So I decided to re-burn it. But on opening the project, it seems some of the source files have been misplaced on my computer, so it says 'media offline'.
I figured I'd still be able to burn it though, because the Media Cache folder contained all the required files...
However it starts to burn the DVD and then stops at 49% saying transcoding error.
Q1: can you still burn a DVD if it says 'media offline' but you know all the source files are present in the Media Cache folder?
    Q2: what's the transcoding error?
    thx

The Media Cache folder contains files that are only of use to PE during internal editing and will NOT solve your lost video problem.
Once a Project is completed, that have no outside value.
The contents are CFA and PEK files, which is the Conformed Audio and Waveform Display, respectively (no video here to my knowledge).
And I'm not aware of any way to make them useful (outside of PE).
If you happen to have your Project and source video/audio files intact, and then delete the contents of the Media Cache folder, upon re-opening the Project, PE will regenerate the CFA and PEK files. Again this is only if you have the Project and all the source files (Assets)...

  • I made a movie on iMovie and went to burn to DVD and of course I could not...contacted Apple and they said to download an app to help solve this problem...i did..so I could finally burn a DVD, but it will not play on my DVD player...HELP!!!

I made a movie on IMovie and went to burn it to a DVD ...I could not do this so I contacted Apple..they had me download an App and then I could make a DVD...but it will not play on my DVD player...does anyone know how I can solve this problem.. I purchased this to make DVD's and now I can not do that!!

This is a known issue.  It really comes down to two key factors - what type of DVD are you burning to + what type of DVD player you have.
This article will help.  It's lengthy and can be technical in some parts but should shed some light on your problem.

  • I'm trying to burn a Iphoto slideshow to DVD but the "burn" in the menu isn't active?

I'm trying to burn a slideshow to a DVD but it isn't hightlighted in the menu?  Any ideas.  Also, is there a way to put captions under a photo that show up in the slide show?
    Thanks,
    Michael Quinn

To burn a Slideshow you DVD for viewing on a domestic DVD player you need to use an app that with author the disk to the correct format.
Macs used come with iDVD for this purpose - accessed by going Share -> iDVD, but if your Mac doesn’t have this then you need to get such an app, then export the slideshow from iPhoto. This will make a movie of it, then add it to your DVD project.
