Burning 30 cds a day

I am starting an indie record label and I have had to burn a lot of cdrs. As much as 30 a day right now. I am using my powerbooks built in cd burner to do this. I do not burn the same ammount of cds every day, I burn a lot, but I rarely go over 30. At the same time I am using an external apple display and the laptop gets very hot. My question is if the built in cd burner can withstand that much usage. I am a student and I dont want to have to pay for a cd burner unless I know that the computor's will break if I use it too much. Thanks,
Finley

I would definitely not use the built in drive for such things. Laptop burners are built quite differently than most standard burners, making them compact and not so power-hungry usually means they tend to go out quicker than a normal burner...
With that much use I wouldn't expect the drive to last, and considering the price difference between the price to replace the internal burner VS. the cost of a simple external drive, I would defiantly go for the second option...You can easily find good FW/USB burners for between $50-$60, If you can do the replacement install on the internal yourself, you looking at a bare minimum of $150 (ifixit dot com) and if done through apple, allot more...I myself am a student, I can definitely understand the $ situation that usually involves but for this kind of thing, personally I would make some rice/beans meals for a couple weeks and save up for the burner.
One thing to add that some may argue over, but as someone who is going to school to learn about digital audio/music, from my experience you can get a (very minimal but noticeable on the right sound systems) advantage to using something like a plextor burner for your audio cd's when burned at slower rates. They constantly out perform other drives when it comes to jitter and other potential issues, and have a good reputation for reliability.

If they were songs you purchased from itunes, try redownloading them from your purchases...
if that doednt work, make sure the optuon to copy files to itunes media folder is checked in settings, then find and download from the net. and re-add them to your library

  • Cannot burn Audio CDs (only Data CDs) since upgrade to Itunes 7

I'm having a problem and it is very frustrating. Worked fine with Ver. 6 but you had to download to ver. 7 before you could purchase any new music so I did. Big mistake! My problem is burning CDs. I can only burn "Data CDs." I went to "Edit" and then to "preferences" then to "Advanced" and then to "Burning" -At that point you have a choice to choose Audio CD burning or Data CD burning. I will not stay on Audio CD burning - keeps defaulting to Data CD burning and there is no "save" button or anything to stop it from happening. When it burns from the data cd it the cd will only play in my computer - not in my car or other player. Would you know how to correct this???? to stop the default? My ipod is fine. I hope Apple takes care of this soon.

  • CD burner will not burn audio cds from iTunes

I have an Iomega external CD-RW burner that has been working perfectly until now. When I try to burn a cd from a playlist in iTunes, after inserting the blank cd... it says that it is checking the playlist, then the status goes to preparing to burn... and nothing happens. The drive almost appears to be unresponsive & itunes seems to have frozen, but they don't. So I have just ejected the disk and it's blank.
I've tried resetting the computer, power, changing the location of the usb connection, different cd-rs, nothing works.
I tried burning a data cd, which was successful. I just don't understand why it won't burn an audio cd from iTunes. Is there a problem with iTunes? Because it doesn't seem to be the cd burner since it is able to burn data cds.
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I think it has always been the case that for burning
CDs with iTunes, the requirement is that it is an
internal Apple CD burner and that external ones might
    or might not work.
I have used external burners in the past with no problems.

  • ITunes 11 - How do I burn mp3 CDs WITH folders??

I know how to burn mp3 cds on iTunes 11, but all the mp3s are thrown into a root folder.  I would like to be able to separate albums into different folders.  I'm sure this is pretty simple, yet I cannot figure it out.  This is for iTunes 11!  Thanks.

If you sort the playlist by Album, they will be burned into Album folders on the CD.
If you sort by Artist, they will be out into Artist then Album folders.
See this -> iTunes: How to set the play order of songs on an MP3 CD
(it should be the same with iTunes 11 but I haven't tried it yet)

Apps for OSX aren't in iTunes: they are in the App Store in your Applications folder. The payment method is the one registered in iTunes. There's no app actually called Yoga Studio, though there are several Yoga apps. There is an iOS app called Yoga Studio but it appears to have no OSX equivalent, though I haven't done a detailed search.

  • Third party tool for burning MP3 CDs?

    Hi,
Are there any third party tools for burning MP3 CDs from an iTunes library?
The iTunes functionality is not sufficient for me for two reasons:
*) I have ALAC files in my library and iTunes won't convert them for putting them on the CD. I know I can convert them in iTunes, but I am looking for a more elegant solution.
*) iTunes seems to put all files in the root of the CD. My car stereo does not use MP3 tags but subdirectories to recognize albums, so I need a directory for every album.
    Any hints are appreciated!
    Thanks, Robert

Easily done. See iTunes: How to set the play order of songs on an MP3 CD. Basically, if you sort the playlist by album, iTunes will burn the MP3 CD with album folders.
Thanks, that solves the second problem, which was the more pressing anyway.
Do you maybe also have an idea how to get rid of the number in front of the album title in the directory name?
    Cheers, Robert

  • Can"t burn data CDs in finder

I recently have not been able to burn data CDs on my Macbook Pro 17". I get one of two different error messages at the end of the burn process... "The disc can’t be burned because communication between the computer and the disc drive failed (error code 0x80020022)" or "The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." I used the online/embedded "Help" in finder to diagnose the problem, and the best I can gather is to use a slower media type. I've tried several different brands of discs with no luck. Is there another way to find a reason for this other than going to an Apple dealer? I live about 2.5 hours away from the closest dealer and I'd like to keep that as a last resort. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the exact same problem on my Mac Mini and got both error messages. I tried reducing the speed but it just gave me a the error "The disc can’t be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media." I had no problem burning the same kind of disks on my Mac Pro with the same OS.
    Will appreciate any suggestions.

  • Why can't I back up music from my ipod to my computer itunes that were burned from CDs?  It will only back up songs purchased from itunes.

I can burn the CDs to my itunes on my lap top but it is about 1000 songs.  Can I do it by synchronizing?  So far I can only get the istore purchsed music to go.

You need a third-party program to do that. Some are discussed here:

  • OS X Freeware to Burn DAO CDs

The wanderingfocus tutorial for burning gapless, Disk-At-Once CDs is obsolete...
    http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/28245
SimplyBurns is a free OS X alternative to Toast in the sense that it burns DAO. If this is old news, oh well, but I've been searching for awhile and only found it recently. Apparently the latest version was released like a week ago on August 6th.
Not sure if it works for DRM-protected iTunes purchases, but it works for everything else.
    iBook G4 1GHz 1280 RAM 40 GB   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Agreed, SimplyBurns is good software for iTunes users. I've recommended it a couple of times recently for those who may not have Toast, as burning gapless (DAO) audio CDs is definitely a desirable thing.
Unfortunately, no third-party software will burn audio CDs from iTMS purchased music, so there still isn't a gapless solution for that. At the same time, I will comment that it wouldn't solve the problem anyway, since the source files (encoded with Apple's AAC encoder) are not gapless to begin with. So, in effect, DAO burning is only of use when the audio CD project is designed to be gapless from the very beginning.

  • Allowing Kids Account to Burn to CDs

I am sharing my computer with my kids. They have some songs purchased from iTunes that I would like to backup to CDs. However, when I try to burn the playlist, iTunes comes back with "You do not have enough access privileges to burn the discs."
