Burning a AVI Movie using Toast Won't Work?!

The file is 700 MB. When I drag it into toast and click burn it tells me the movie is 4.5 GB but the DVD will only hold 4.4 GB. Why did a 700GB AVI file turn into an 4.5 GB file??

This is really a question about Toast which would be better asked on the Toast support web site. I believe Toast has a feature for recoding AVIs to video DVD format. Whatever it is you are doing seems to have activated that. Perhaps there is something like choosing DVD format, versus data DVD. I don't really know for sure since I only have Toast 5 and never use it.

Installed Snow Leopard, and Movie Media Player Won't Work.

My problem is literally as stated. I recently installed the new OS update, Snow Leopard for those few cave dwellers who don't know about it, and the Move Media Plugin doesn't work in Safari. If you go to FOX Network's website, you can watch full episodes of already aired shows. Before the update it worked fine, nd now with the new Safari update and everything else, it won't play large videos.
I have allowed it to use unlimited space, uninstalled and reinstalled it, restarted the computer, and everyhting else I could think of. Anybody have any ideas?
(This is a recurring problem, Move Media Player has had issues with Safari and/or Mac users in the past, but nobody has anything on the latest issue.)

Any plans they would go 64 bit?
Because I tried running a plug in in 32 bit, and after running in Safari in 64 bit for long time, I now realize that 32 bit just *****, it's horrible, it's too unstable, period. I'm NEVER running it in 32 bit again.
Any hacks to get 32 bit plug in to work in 64 bit environment?
I know they rely on Input manager, but that's the problem!
Many developers are hoping for an API that works, when in reality, it's over. Apple killed Input Manager and there is no plan to release a successor plug in. It's up to the developers to now find their own way to write a code that works just like Input Manager, and it's actually really easy.

Problems burning my movie using Toast

Hi.
I have created a movie in imovie which is 58 minutes long and roughly 12GB. I have dragged this movie into Roxio Toast (6.0) and attempted to create a DVD but after about 2 hours of Toast creating my DVD it "unexpectedly quits". Can anybody help?
Also do I need to export my movie to quicktime and full DV quality and then drag this into toast?

I do use both apps:
iLife - that is a very conveneint combo of products; everything is integrated; using every single app as it is meant for, it works like charm; iDVD, esp. the new one in iLife05, has terrific options (moving menus) or, some nice features to create very simple looking video-dvds.
iMovie is a very basic, but easy to handle edit app; I do own FinalCutExpress for more elaborated projects (or just parts! I use fCE for special effects, import them into iM)
iDVD is dvd authoring "suite"; complex menus/structures; you can "imitate" different language versions of a project on one dvd (not really different audioo tracks, but like...); the new "structure" view makes you feel like working with DVDSP...
Toast7: VERY different! this is NOT a dvd authoring app, but some "burner" (in many meanings); there is just one single menu to choose from; no individual menu design possible; but zillions of options to create any "burned" media, from data (spanning feature!=> dividing BIG data onto many discs)), all kind of formats (PC, ISO, udf); converting into different codecs; latest feature: video into divx-codec
speed? never heard of a comparison of both products, wouldn't make much sense, iDVD offers complex menus = time, Toast not; Toast offer codecs, iDVD cannot create....

Is there a way to go directly from imovie and burn into toast or do I need to export the movie first and then bring it into toast? Also will that work?

any full version ≥6.1.1 of Toast allows in Finder a drag'n drop of an iM project file into Toast's window..
no manual exports needed..

Problem Burning Final Cut Movie Using Autoplay Feature

I exported a Quicktime movie I made from Final Cut Pro. I wanted to burn my DVD without having the menu at the beginning, so I dragged my movie (from the "Media" link) into the autoplay box in the map view. It seems to work well-the preview shows the movie has been imported. However, after burning the DVD I get no response from my DVD player, or two other players I've used. I get error messages and the DVD does not play automatically.
When I go back and import the Final Cut movie into a DVD theme, not using the autoplay box, and burn the DVD everything turns out fine! I cannot figure out why it doesn't work when I drag the movie into the autoplay box, but works great if I import the movie from File>Import>Video.
Not sure if this matters, but when I exported my Quicktime movie from Final Cut I did not make the movie "self-contained." Any help on this would be great!

Hello Wade,
you should always create a disk image from your iDVD project. That way you can test it with DVD Player before actually burning to disc and rule out burn errors by burning at slow speed with DU.
Not sure if this matters, but when I exported my Quicktime movie from Final Cut I did not make the movie "self-contained."
That may well be one of the problems. If you do a search on the FCP board, you'll find that most experienced users recommend exporting as self-contained.
I'd suggest exporting a self contained QT movie from your timeline, then creating a disk image.

Audio missing in burn of home movie using one stop

New app for me...but my daughter filmed my Mom's 90th BD and asked if I could make the DVDs.
I decided to use one-step in iDVD and her JVC cam. All went well video wise...but no sound came through, even tho every sound was playing.
This is my first stab to so I either goofed or haven't upgraded?? I still need to burn two more hours...it was an awesome party;-)

Welcome to apple discussions. Let's see if we can get this resolved for you. Question/s: Did you connect the JVC Camcorder via FW to your mac? Was the the camcorder also set to 16 bit audio? One Step Dvd works great with firewire (or i.Link) connections. Which port /connection was used to connect to your mac? (to the best of my knowledge, can't use one step with USB 2 nor with 12 bit audio).
Also you want to make sure your JVC camcorder is listed here under apple's iMovie / supported camcorders. Is it?

IPhone 4 is overheating after seconds of use, brightness won't work, and front camera is frozen. Suggestions as what is wrong?

So one day my front facing camera decided to just not work. I tried the restore and everything possible, it's just frozen.
Luckily the other camera works. Last week, I woke in the morning and used my phone like normal and I noticed it was so hot. I let it sit and it cooled down and then went on my Facebook app, where not even a minute within use started to get extremely hot. My battery life has decreased significantly and my phone also gets extremely hot when charging. The weird this is that whenever I'm making a phone call, It doesn't get hot and my guess is because the screen goes dim. So i tried turning down the brightness on my phone which it became apparent that my brightness switch doesn't work either. I have tried a restore but to no avail..
The fact that my phone is getting so hot so quick really scares me.Has anyone experienced anything similar? Even though the camera not working and the battery issue happened at different times, I thought I should bring it up in case they are in fact related. Thank you all so much.

I happen to be experiencing then same problem again!
I have followed all the steps and my phone will just not come right. I love my iPhone but I have no clue what is going on sometimes it will just freeze in the camera app and I have to restart my whole phone.
I have downloaded another camera app to see if it would make any difference and it hasn't.
Should I take it back to the service provider that I have my contract with and get them to send it in to apple? Because the phone is only 3 months old.

I have some clips that are off axis and I applied a bit of tilt to correct them. However, I now need to crop the sides giving me a 1.66:1 effect inside the 1.85:1 frame. But how/ Using CROP in Premiere Pro just crops the image off axis. Here is a screen grab...

My harddrive is full due to 17k of pic in my iphoto. I am trying to copy them onto a dvd and then will delete most of them, but when I try to burn a group of events it won't work. ,y Mac just spits out the blank DVD.

How much space do you have left because maybe the system is unable to cue the burn because is needs to write some data to the hard drive before burning the DVD-R. Download OmniDiskSweeper, this program will give you information on your files and folders and give the opportunity to delete some files. If you have a external hard drive you can just copy your files to the hard drive then delete off you main hard drive.

HT4972 previously used apps won't work after system restore?ipod touch 2nd gen.?

My son forgot his passcode so I had to restore his ipod touch, 2nd gen. After the restore, many of his apps no longer work. He had Netflix, Facebook, Angry Birds. They now all say they require ios 4.3 or 5.0. Does anyone know how to get these apps back on his ipod? thanks!

Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

How best to burn avi movie file to a DVD?

I am the owner of a new 20" iMac and would like to burn an avi movie file to a DVD. I am informed by an Apple tech rep that the avi file has to be converted to a DV or MPEG-4 file before the iDVD program can burn it to a DVD. To make the conversion a Roxio program called Popcorn has been suggested, but the cost is $50.
I will appreciate any advice as to alternative lower cost programs that will accomplish the conversion.
I am also open to any other approaches that will enable me to burn the avi file to a DVD. (Before switching from a Windows computer to the iMac I used to burn avi movie files to DVDs with no sweat via NeroVision Express which was part of the Nero 6 software package that was supplied with an external DVD burner).

I’m not conversant with the technical aspects of the information on the other two websites to which you refer. I really can’t tell whether these programs would meet the demands of this particular situation. I do not want to download programs, even if they are freeware, if I don’t know what I am getting. This movie stuff is certainly a much more complex issue to deal with than mp3 song files!
I am too new to the world of Mac to know whether QuickTime Pro would be of advantage. I’ll have to look into it.
I think QT Pro is like another editing app in and of itself and much more. It is very much worth every cent that apple is asking for this software. In fact, in some situations it's actually vital in the creation of several projects.
I'm guessing you too will find this out on your own when it comes to combining two QT movies together as one project or triming and existing QT movie rather than reworking both separate projects from scratch.
Bottom line is that it's significant time saver. And for me time = $$$. (Hence this QT software is worth every cent of $29).
Btw... and nobody pays me to say this about apple software. I'm just stating what works best for me.
Speaking of which .... I also happen to be my own beta tester.
I think you're going to have to get used to the idea of testing your own software / plugins that will work best for you and in your own situation. You might want to consider investing in an ext. HD if you don't already own one.
The way I approach this is to clone my exisiting HD using CCC and then running the latest apple update /software on the cloned HD rather than attempting to alter my existing HD (which to me is essentially my bread and butter).

Upgrading...using Toast 7

I want to use Toast 7 to upgrade my computer so that I can make and copy DVDs. Has anyone out there ever used this software [Mac OSX 10.39]? What do you advise?

Hi Makeda,
It's not the greatest solution, but using Toast 7 does work. You just drop your video file into the Toast window after selecting the Video tab and burn. Well, not quite that simple. You select a few other options on the drawer at the left, such as menu style, then go.
Mind you, this is slow as it has to render the video to standard MPEG-2 for DVD first. But once it's done rendering, you can enter any number of disks you want to burn in that session and it will do them one right after the other. If you quit the app and want to burn more disks later, you'll have to start the whole process over.
For drastically better quality with your final output with Toast, consider purchasing Jam, also. Then you also get the options of setting the bit rate and using Dolby Digital for sound. PCM is better since it's uncompressed audio, but using Dolby Digital saves a ton of space when you need to get a lot of video on one disk.

The Up Arrow Key Won't Work!

Whenever I try to use the up arrow key on my MBP, it doesn't respond. For example, on any application I use, it won't work. But, for some reason, whenever I play Empire At War, it works perfectly.
What should I do?

To be honest there is a lengthy process involved. If you are able to call APPLE support. try that. If not let me know and I will continue.
