Burning a disk for windows computers

Just using "Burn" seemed to copy the iPhoto folders, openable only by iPhoto. I have ~300 photos to send. Must I rag them from iPhoto to the CD?

sjcollin:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You're losing the order because in the Finder the files are listed alphanumerically or chrnonlogically depending on how you have the particular folder window set up. In iPhoto you have them sorted manually as you want them. What you need to do is batch rename them in iPhoto while in the order your want using the Photos->Batch Change->Title to text + adding a sequential number menu option. Then export those photos to the folder on the desktop with the option to use the title as the new file name. That will get you what you want.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

With an upgrade, you'd have to first reinstall Vista, using the recovery media, then you'd have to apply the upgrade.
A better solution is to buy a program like Acronis TrueImage and use it to make a restorable image backup of your hard drive with Windows 7.

  • I purchased Photoshop 13 on disk for Windows now I am getting a message stating I exceeded the number of computers

I installed Photoshop 13 on 2 laptops and 1 desktop using the Photoshop 13 disk. All computers are running Windows 8.1 Why am I just now finding out that installing Photoshop 13 is limited to a certain number of computers? NO where on the packaging or product description does it state that it is limited. I am a long time user of Photoshop and it really torques me off that I am now limited to the number of computers I can install the program on. Well I am returning this and finding another product. It is deceptive advertising.

She is correct it is not on the packages or product description. The EULA would have to be accessed on the Adobe website. Adobe should make it visible on the packages. Many other software companies make the number of computer allowed visible on their packages. I imagine this individual was familiar with seeing the number of computer allowed listed on other software packages. When she did not see it on the package it is implied that there is no limit.

  • Install disk for multiple computers

    Hi,
My wife just got a new mac book pro today with the Leopard install disk.
I have a mac book pro with Tiger on it. Can I use her disk to install Leopard on my computer, or do I need to buy a separate Leopard install disk for me?
    Thanks!

You need to purchase Leopard. Not only are you not legally allowed to use her disk to install on your system it may not work and could mess your system up

  • How to create recovery disk for windows 8.1 after update from windows 8.

My laptop came with windows 8 and i have recovery discs for windows 8.
Now i've updated to windows 8.1, so i want to creat recovery discs for windows 8.1.
So in future when i use recovery discs i dont have to download windows 8.1 again.
Please tell me if there is any way to do this.....

As colakid posted, in Windows 8 the ability to create a recovery CD/DVD has gone. Your options are to:
    create a recovery USB; or
    create a recovery image.
    Recovery USB
Colakid's post talks you through how to make a recovery USB: from control panel, choose Recovery, then Create a Recovery Drive, and follow the prompts.
However, the 'recovery USB' can be a bit misleading. When the wizard starts, there is an option to 'copy the recovery partition from the PC to the recovery drive'. If you do not check this option, you will still need installation media to reset your PC.
Since you have upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, you will probably not be able to check this option, as it will be greyed out (like it is in the picture in Colakid's post).
If you go ahead and create the USB anyway, you will be able to boot to it, but you won't be able to reinstall Windows unless you have the installation media (or possibly a system image, though I haven't tried that).
    Recovery image
The recovery image is an image of your computer that Windows will use when you select the 'refresh my pc' option. You can create a recovery image using the recimg.exe tool.
First, open an elevated command prompt (type cmd and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
Next, create the recovery image by typing:
    recimg /createimage [path]
Where [path] is the folder you want the image in, eg C:\Recovery. You cannot set the file name - it will always be called CustomRefresh.wim.
Let it run its course. When it's done, you can check that it is the current recovery image by typing
    recimg /showcurrent
It's important to keep in mind what a recovery image contains. It will have your Windows system files (in their current state), and the desktop apps you have installed (so it makes sense to do this after a fresh install of Windows). It will
not backup any Metro apps or user files, because these are not deleted during a system refresh. If you want a complete backup of everything on your computer the way it is now, you should make take a complete system image (which
can be done from the File History settings in control panel - at the bottom left there will be a 'System Backup Image' option - or you can do it using any other backup software like Ghost or Acronis).
In my case, I created the recover image straight after upgrading to Windows and it was about 6 GB.
Prepare/Create and register an recovery partition, so the option Copy the Recovery Partition becomes available in the recovery drive UI  application.
In elevated command run> RECIMG -CREATEIMAGE C:\REFRESHIMAGE<
This will create a new custom.wim in a folder Refreshimage.
Now lets get ready to register the path of the image, so our create recovery drive option(COPY THE RECOVERY PARTITION FROM THE PC TO THE RECOVERY DRIVE) becomes available.
    >  In the folder you created there will be a> custom.wim<
    change it to>INSTALL.wim<
    > Create a folder In Cd/directory using Elevated command> mkdir c:\Win8.1-Recovery,>
    Win81-Recovery<.
    > Copy the  INSTALL.WIM. Put in the Win81-recovery folder created.
    > Run in elevated commad>REAGENTC /SetOSImage /Path C:\Win81-Recovery\INSTALL.WIM /Index 1<
Do not copy the arrows if using copy and paste, that is my way of pointing out lines of code
Information provided by the link below, thanks Keith. I simplified the process for easy following and added my own tweak from trial and error for the install.

  • Install disks for mac computers 10.4.8 have different codes

    hi
i have just bought mac computermac os x install disk from ebay, i only received them today and already i have a problem.
the codes on each disk are different disk 1 is 2z691 5967 A and copyrighted in 2007
    disk 2 is 2z691 5930 A and copyrighted in 2006.
are these the same harware disk bundle or have i been cond?
    thanks emma

You are correct that you will not be able to install Tiger, either from a retail disk, or anouther systems restore disks on a new macbook that came pre-installed with leopard. I believe this is because of the hardware changes made just after the release of leopard to the macbooks and thus there is no hardware support for it in any pervious version of osx.
As for the origional poster, it would not be odd for the disk versions of your restore disks IE disk 1 and disk 2 to be different. For example my disks are coded as 2z691-6147-a and 2z691-6176-a respectivaly
This is because disk 1 is your restore disk for the actual OS, in my case a november 2007 macbook with leopard, while the second disk is the optional installs with programs such as iLife. Since my macbook came with a different OS then the ones sold before November of 2007 the serial of the first disk will not match that of the second, which will have the exact same software on it as the pre november macbooks and thus why make a new disk, and serial just because of an OS update.
    HOpe that makes since

  • Product Name: HP Pavilion g6-2006tx Notebook PC... Require a recovery disk for Windows 7 Home Basic

    Sir,
The recovery disk that was prepared for my Laptop has been corrupted and is not functioning. The laptop shows an error message as 'BOOTMGR.EXE is missing'. Whenever I use the disk, it starts off well but it stops after 13% of the installation is done. There is no recovery partition in my laptop as it was deleted after the recovery disk was burned.
All this started when I wished to format my Laptop and reinstall the operating system.
I donot wish to install any operating system other than my original supported WINDOWS 7 HOME BASIC. So, if you could send me a recovery disk of the same, it will be very helpful. Any other details required shall be provided.
Your hasty attitude in this matter would be highly appreciated.

  • Hp windows recovery disk for windows 7 failing at 84% completion

    Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion dv71-4100.  The hard drive failed so i purchased a new one and am now trying to reinstall windows through the three disks I got through HP.
Disk 1 work fine all the way through.  I then insert disk 2 when prompted and it begins working properly.  At 84% it stops and eventually pops up an error message (something with the C drive).
Any ideas what I can do?
    Thanks,

    Hi,
I've seen this error when the replacement HDD has a smaller capacity than the original, or it could just be a problem with the Recovery Media.
Either way, here's an alternative option you could try.
Before trying the following, make sure you can still read the 25 Character Product Activation key on your Windows COA label ( 5 blocks of 5 alpha/numeric sets ).
An example of a COA Label can be seen Here.
You can create an installation disc yourself using another PC - just download the correct Disc Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your notebook - most likely Windows 7 Home Premium ) from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD - a guide on using ImgBurn to write an ISO to a disc is Here.  These Images are clean and from a well-respected source.  To avoid possible errors, it's best to burn the ISO at the slowest possible speed.
    Windows 7 Images.
Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the COA Label when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.
    http://www.kodyaz.com/articles/how-to-activate-windows-7-by-phone.aspx
Any additional drivers and software you may need can be found Here.

  • I want to use this thing as just a backup device for windows computers but don't have a Mac - can I use this in that way ? I am not interested in using the wireless portion jut wired ethernet.

I have multiple iOS devices and a couple of Windows XP Professional PCs, but I want to get a Time Capsule to use just to backup the Windows PCs now.
In the future I want to get a Mac and get rid of the windows PCs and then I will use Time Machine. I just want to know if I can use the Time Capsule now for wired backups ??? I plan on using Norton Ghost and don't need Time Machine nor do I have a Mac to use it. Should I forget this idea ? I plan on buying a Mac in the future and use this drive in the regular Apple manner. Please help !

The format of the disk is a Mac format. but that is irrelevant in a NAS device, as long as it offers SMB.. ie windows file network format.. you don't have to worry in the least how the files are stored on the drive.
But you cannot partition a TC.. it is as it is..
I have some iOS devices in addition including an AppleTV. Could this TC serve them as well as the Windows XP Pro PCs without having a Mac in my inventory ? (No time Machine.)
What are you expecting to serve to the iOS devices.. they are completely dumb.. they don't even know what the file system is without an APP.. and there is no Apple Format apps only SMB.. which is kind of interesting.
They are designed to work with iTunes.. but the TC is not an iTunes server strangely as lots of non-Apple products manage to make their NAS into ITunes servers. You can place the iTunes library on the TC but we don't recommend it due to the TC having no automated way to back itself up.. again unlike every other NAS out there. You can manually backup the TC via the USB.. it is slow and can only backup the whole disk.. even if you backed up the whole disk yesterday.. it has no ability to do incremental rsync or any other intelligent backup.
