Burning a DVD onto a MacBook

Hi,
I have a video presentation on DVD from work that I'd like to put onto my Mac (I'm a new convert to Mac - only a few weeks ago!).
The DVD has 3 "chapters".
It seems that it's made up of three types of files (.bup .ifo & .vob)
How to I copy the DVD onto my computer's hard-drive so I can watch the videos without the DVD? I'd also like to be able to burn a DVD with one of the chapters.
Any help for a novice Mac user would be appreciated.
Cheers, Simon

Simon:
Navigate the DVD and drag&drop the complete VIDEO_TS folder in the location you want in your hard drive.
Open DVD Player application and go for Open VIDEO_TS folder option or jut drag&drop the VIDEO_TS folder from your HD on the DVD Player icon.
Hope that helps !

If it's a home DVD copy the files to the computer.  If it's a commercial DVD you don't because it's illegal to do that and also against the terms of use of this site to even discuss.

A DVD is not editable but there is a work around. Create a disk image with your Disk Utility program and put your content on it. When you are finished, burn the DVD using the disk image as your master. Don't delete the image. When you are ready to make edits, edit the content on the disk image and use it to burn the next DVD.

  • Sense Code Error 31000 while burning DL DVD Encore CS5 Macbook Pro

While attempting to burn a Dual Layer DVD on my Macbook Pro I got this error: "Sense Code 31000" just before it started to burn.
I changed the burn speed, verified my laptop burns DVD+R DL discs. Any help is much appreciated. Must burn a master to duplicated 100 dvds by Friday. Thanks!

    Hi,
Sense Code errors are hardware or blank media related.
Try to burn with other blank disc, if it does not work then the problem may be because of burner.

  • Can't Burn "Imation DVD+R" on Macbook Pro

Hello, a couple of days ago I tried to burn some files on an "Imation DVD+R." I have an entire spindle of blank Imation DVD + R (Single Layered) and the computer refuses to burn any file on any of them. The discs themselves are in excellent condition.
When I used the "Finder Burner," I got the following error:
"The disc can't be burned, because the device failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media."
When i used an application called "Burn" and the "Disc Utility," I got the follow error:
"The disc can't be burned; it might be incompatible with this disc drive. Please try a different brand of disc, or try burning at a slower speed."
I went to the Apple Store and told a Genius what was going on. He put a "Staple DVD-R" and it worked flawlessly. He told me that he believed I purchased a bad "spindle of discs" because "normally Imation works just fine." I went home and tried to burn a file on the disc using my mother's computer (a PC). The disc burned flawlessly. I have about 30 blank DVDs that remain in this spindle. I would hate to get rid of all of them. What worries me is that I think my computer once burned these Imation DVD+Rs just fine (like I said, I really don't remember.)
I called AppleCare and was transferred to a Senior Manager. He said for me to send my computer in and he'll replace the optical drive.
Before I do so, does anyone have any suggestions? Is anyone else unable to burn these Imation DVD+Rs?
Here are some specs on my computer:
    - Macbook Pro (Late 2008)
    - Snow Leopard (10.6.4)
    - Optical Drive is "MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-868"
Thanks for any advice you can give me.
    Best,
    --André

    A brief update:
I dropped my computer off to FedEx on Thurs. evening (6:30 pm) and received it back on Sat. morning (8:30 am). That was incredibly fast!
Anyway, the following parts were replaced.
    - ODD Super Drive (Symptom: Optical Drive Read/Write Data Error)
    - Main Logic Board 2.4Ghz (Symptom: Sensors Test Failed)
    - Optical Cable (Symptom: Drive Read/Write Data Error)
Moral of the story: if a Genius finds a "work-around" a the problem rather than trying to determine the actual cause of the problem, call AppleCare. Do not be afraid to speak with a Senior Manager (because, in my cause, the normal AppleCare technician didn't think anything was wrong.)
Thanks again for your all help.
    Best,

  • Putting my DVDs onto my MacBook

Hello everyone, I'm not sure if this is the best place to be posting this topic, but I've posted this on the iTunes board and haven't gotten a response yet, so I figured it couldn't hurt to post here as well.
So basically I've been wanting to add some of my own DVDs to iTunes. After some searching on these discussions, I found that the apps to rip DVDs preferred most were HandBrake and Mac the Ripper. I tried HandBrake and didn't like it very much, so I tried Mac the Ripper and liked it a lot.
So now I have several of my DVDs ripped onto my Mac and I need to convert them into a format that will play in iTunes. After some initial searching, I found many people used D-Vision, so I downloaded that and used it on one of my ripped DVDs. Only problem is, the result was a .avi file, which isn't compatible with iTunes.
So what I'm asking is, is there a step I missed in this process? How can I convert my .avi file into a file that is recognized by iTunes, and what format is best? (I know .mov, .m4v, and .mp4 are all playable)
I will really appreciate any help you have to offer!

    Hi Emily
It's a shame that you don't get on with Handbrake, as this is a one stop shop for converting dvd's to make them smaller / etc.
I can understand why the resulting avi didn't play. This is because you don't have the necessary codec installed. Have a look here for codec advice... http://www.woggledog.com/mac/index.asp?subject=videocodec For your AVI's you'll only the perian codec which covers a whole host of codecs.
Let me know how you get on.
    regards

  • Is there a way to download DVDs onto your MacBook Air since there is no cd rom?

I'm going away on a trip and would like to get movie onto my computer but for want to but anymore off iTunes I want my DVDs on there is there a way to do that?

  • How to save a dvd onto the macbook pro

    Hello!
We got the dvd to play, we need to edit it, etc.  How do we do this?

What? what are you trying to do? what are you using? whats goin on? We need details.

  • How to  import a DVD onto my MacBook so I can edit and copy it - ?

I have recently had a DVD made from a Mini DV recorder. I now wish to keep it on my computer so I can edit it and also copy it or use parts of it for a presentation. Can someone help? I am completely new to all this.

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/video/mpegstreamclip.html
which is free, but you must also have the Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

  • My MacBook Pro doesn't want to burn DL DVD?

Iv'e been tring to burn DL DVDs on my MacBook Pro but it just doesnt want too.
What should I do? I don't want to buy a external DVD burner.
Does anyone know if APPLE could install an internal DVD burner that can burn DL DVDs?
    MacBook Pro 1, 1   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Due to size constraints inside the MacBook Pro case, the higher-speed dual layer drives just didn't fit in the MacBook Pro at the time of design and manufacture. There are some drives on the horizon that will fit in this form factor - it remains to be seen what will work, or what Apple themselves includes in the later MacBook Pro revisions.
In the meanwhile, any Firewire or USB 2.0 drive should work just fine. iDVD in iLife '06 has been updated to permit burning of projects on third party available DVD burners now.

  • How do i burn a dvd into my itunes so i can load it onto my ipad?

I would like to burn a DVD onto my itunes account so I can then put in on my phone and Ipad.  Is this possible with a regular DVD?

You don't burn a DVD into iTunes like how one does with a CD. You need to use other software, however it sounds as if you are referring to a commercial DVD. These have copy protection and in order to rip you need to breach this and that process is illegal. Furthermore we can't discuss as it is against the terms of this forum.

  • HT5630 how do I burn a dvd using usb superdrive to mac or itunes?

How do I burn my dvds onto either my Macbook air or onto itunes using external USB superdrive please??

"Burn my DVD" refers to the process of taking data FROM the Macbook and copying them TO the DVD, not potentially the other way around, as you have asked the question.
Are you wanting to copy (rip) movies from a DVD and place them into iTunes?
                        -or-
Are you wanting to copy (burn) a movie from a digital copy on your computer to the DVD?
The way you have asked the question makes no sense.
