Burning a DVD project encoding error

I created an iDVD project about a year ago.  I now want to burn additonal copies of this DVD.  When I open the .dvdproj file and select Burn DVD from the menu, the process starts but stops at the process movies strp with the error mesage: "There was an eror durning movie encoding".  I have made copies of this DVD in the past.  I have the DVD.  Is it possible to just copy the good DVD to another DVD if I can not corrcct this error?

Have you edited the movie since burning the first video DVD?  Go to the Advanced menu and select "Delete Encoded Assets".  Then try again.
However, follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If you get the same response while trying to create the disk image start over with a new project and add the media to it.

  • Burning to DVD, now getting error message.  What do i do?ng t

I use Verbatim DVDs as I've always done to burn my DVD's. I think a few weeks ago I may have turned off the "verify" discs after burning option thought I can't seem to find how I did it or how to turn it back on.
I'm not sure if my current problem is related to this but I am receiving this error message after burning most DVDs:
"This disc could not be verified and might be unreliable. Try again using a new, blank disc. (error code 0x80020063."
When I go into the DVDs, all of the files are there (typically video clips I am burning) but some of them will not let me fast forward or jump ahead when watching the videos (which I need to do). I must sit and watch the entire video clip. If I try to fast forward or jump forward, the video clock will run but the video stays where it was. It's quite frustrating.
One more thing, I have tried burning at 1x (a slower speed) and no difference.
Is there a setting I need to turn back on to verify these discs? Any other suggestions?
    Thanks.

I just dropped into the forums to see if other people were getting the DVD burning verification error (Error code 0x80020063). I've been holding off on the Tiger to Leopard upgrade until very recently. All of my must-have apps were anecdotally stable and I was under the impression that 10.5 was too. Apparently reliable DVD burning is Tiger only, at least on my systems.
We've been burning Taiyo Yuden DVD's almost daily with Tiger with incredibly low failure rates. After what seemed to be a smooth upgrade of a Mac Pro tower & 2 MacBook Pro laptops (one is a Core Duo and the other is a Core 2 Duo) I've spent the entire afternoon troubleshooting until I ended up here. Some searching on the board leads me to conclude that this will be a bigger headache than I imagined.
I've done all the obvious stuff (varied the burn speed, moved the files to a different drive, reset PRAM & SMC, used a different account, deleted finder.plist, tried repairing the system with DU on the Leopard install disc and then I tried burning on different computers with different media). What I'm finding is that over 50% of my DVD's are throwing the error code during verification across 3 different models all running Leopard 10.5.2. CD burning seems to work as before (but we don't use this as much so ?). I saw that some people had posted that closing the finder window helped, but that didn't improve my overall failure rate. The DVD's appear (indentical byte size and item numbers) to be burned correctly and usable, but I need to be sure so I can't trust them.
We need reliable DVD burning for our business and this is a real problem. I was going to trudge over to the Apple store, but it doesn't sound like there's a real fix yet.

  • Is it possible to burn 1 dvd project onto 2 dvd's at the same time?

Is it possible to burn 1 idvd project onto 2 different discs at the same time. i have an external burner so that wont be a problem i am just wondering if it is possible to burn both at the same time

You can't do it out of iDVD.
If you create a disk image file (.img) out of iDVD you MIGHT be able to do so using Roxio's Toast and the .img file.

  • Burning a DVD - error message

I get the following error message when I attempt to burn my DVD:
"There were errors during the project validation that have to be fixed before burning the project."
I am not sure what I have to do to correct this.

Did you already read this procedure?

    From iDvd's Help Menu:
Each iDVD theme comes with a specific style of menu buttons, but you can customize them in several ways. You can give the buttons a shape to which you can add video clips, images, or even slideshows. You can change the typeface, size, style, and color of the button label text. You can also create buttons without a label or buttons that are text only. You can even make each button that appears on a menu different by mixing styles for an interesting visual effect.

  • Formatting write error every time when trying to burn a DVD

DVD Studio has worked for me in the past, but now every time I try to burn a DVD project, I get this: "Formatting failed - The recording device reported the media error: Write error (0x0C, 0x00)"
As far as I can tell, I cleared the prefs for DVD Studio, but that didn't help. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix this problem? Thx.

    Hi:
    Wellcome to the forum !
Probably DVDSP and/or your drive don't like your media. No matter that, me and other found that DVDSP is one of the worst way to burn DVDs.
Try * Creating Disc Image in DVDSP * and burn it using Disk Utility and/or Toast.
About your media, you can * USE THIS SITE * as reference.
    Hope that helps !

  • Would using 2 disks speed up burning a DVD

In a previous life I optimized the performance of applications by distributing I/O over more than one drive. Would it help to do something similar when burning a DVD project either to a DVD or to a disk image? Presumably iDVD is reading the iMovie definition and writing the encoded date somewhere ... originally I thought it was writing it directly to the .img file (for the disk image) but from a previous thread I think that most of the writing is to the .dvdproj file (package).
So would it help to put the iMovie file on drive A and the .dvdproj file on drive B? and the .img on drive A (assuming that .img is written at the end after iMovie file is not being used)? Or is there a better way of doing this .. or is this not an issue if the application is not I/O bound but CPU bound?

  • Can't burn my DVD

I keep getting this message in iDVD when i try to burn my dvd project. I checked the map and it doesn't show any errors. Any ideas?
"There were errors during the project validation. These errors have to be fixed before burning the project."

I have used both iMovie and iDVD many times in iLife '06 and have had good luck.
    You meant iLife '05, right?
Thanks for writing back and it you have some pointers for me, it would be great.
I know some of this may be outdated now by iLife '06 release, but that David Pogue book is excellent and has great basic knowledge (mostly iMovie):

  • Latest dvd project won't play in DVD players...

I have a iMac G5 and iDVD 4. I use FCP to edit. I have made many DVDs from files I make with exporting my sequences to quicktime. Then I import that export into iDVD, and this has always created DVDs that play in my computer and in DVD players.
For some reason, my latest project will only make DVDs that play on my computer using this method, not any of my 3 DVD players. I've checked to make sure I'm still set to NTSC, and I am. What could be causing this? Did I change a setting in FCP that I'm unaware of?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I've wasted a good many blank DVDs from this glitch. Thank you!

Haha. I would love the luxury to just stop and not worry about it but unforunately I need to burn the DVD. I do not have another burner, I only have my internal one built into the iMac G5 I have.
Plus if you read through, you'd see that I have successfully burned older DVD projects just fine this week. It's just this latest project that won't burn.
If you have any suggestions related to what I might have changed or what might be different in FCP, that would be helpful. Unfortunately just stopped after 10 bucks worth is not an option.

  • Burn Audio DVD on 2nd Mac (share burner?)

    Hi,
Is there a quick/painless way to copy iTunes library between Macs ....
or, better still, to share a second Mac's DVD burner?
I have my entire 6G audio library on my Mac Mini (which is the central hub in my multi-computer wireless household; as there is far less chance of it being lost or stolen than my laptops).
I want to burn a 4.7G playlist onto a DVD that I can then play in my car (which is MP3 compatible. This way I can also select/play the songs using my SatNav menu. Better option than using iPod).
The problem is that my Mac Mini only has a CD burner; but my MacBook Pro has a Super Drive. So, somehow I need to temporarily get 4.7Gs worth of music between computers.
I have shared my library but then the burning option is disabled on my MacBook Pro - even though all my iTunes libraries are logged in with the same id, even though they are all on a local network.
I tried Blue Coconut - but it just hangs saying 'Please Wait' (again, despite it being on a local 54Mb wireless network).
    Any easy options?

Transferring 4.7 GB on my wireless network doesn't take long at all. If it's too slow in your case, then you could power off the Mac Mini and connect it via a FireWire cable (6-pin to 6-pin) to your MacBook Pro. Then power on the Mac Mini while depressing the T key on the Mac Mini's keyboard. The entire Mac Mini hard drive should now mount as a FireWire hard drive on the MacBook Pro, and you can you can burn the DVD project "locally."
When you're finished with the project, be sure to eject (unmount) the Mac Mini by dragging its FireWire hard drive icon to the Trash, then power down the Mac Mini and disconnect the FireWire cable from both computers.

Very frustrating... I'm trying to burn a DVD and I've done it about 100 times before.  I've checked the mapping for errors and found none.  When I attempt to burn a DVD, the error mentioned above appears after a few minutes.  I've tried to update all software, restart the computer, and use other DVRs.  Any adivice would be most helpful.  Thanks in advance!

    Hi
To be able to help we need more exact information and that You try out every suggestion as precise as possibly.
First step is as always - separate encoding from burn-process - By Save as a DiskImage from File menu in iDVD (as suggested by Old Toad)
If problem persists in encoding part then
    • iDVD got a corrupted pref file - very common problem
    • Space on Start-Up (Mac OS) hard disk get's too low to be able to store the temp. files from iDVD and Mac OS (can not be stored elsewhere)
    • Material feed into iDVD - can not be digested as strange video codecs and audio files in .mp3 .wma and other exotic formats.
iDVD pref file - to find out if this is the problem - Easiest and most secure way is to - Create a new User-account and log into this. Re-try iDVD - If it now works OK then the problem is very close to 100% in the pref file. Either do Your work in the new Account or go back and trash the old pref file.
Space on Start-Up HD - I never go under 25Gb to let iDVD and Mac OS run OK
Material - Here You need to supply specific information
    • Video - from what Camera - in what codec - If You can open a video file in QuickTime-Player then here open Inspector and read Video format/Codec: nnnnnnnn, size and frame rate - and tell us
    • Audio - All audio I use is in .aiff 16-bit 48kHz (as from my miniDV Camera or 44.1 kHz as from Audio-CDs all other is converted to this. iTunes is even more problematic. Here I collect all needed audio into a new PlayList and this I BURN out as a standard Audio-CD (.aiff) (never .mp3) and in my movie projects I use the files from this CD.

  • Can't Burn DVD - keep getting "Error during rendering/encoding"...Help!

I have a new IMac computer with Leopard and I'm having problems burning DVDs. I created a project using IDVD and have audio and pictures (imported individually from Iphoto) that I created into slideshows. I'm try to burn my final copy and continue to receive the "Error during rendering/encoding" message. I looked at earlier threads and saw some people had success when saving it first to a disk image however when I attempted to do that I received the same error. I know I have plenty of memory space since this project is very small. Please let me know if you have any ideas!!
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I have a new mac with Leopard since a week, and I had the same problem ("error during rendering / encoding..."). This happened when burning to a disk image.
    I tried a lot of things :
    * very small project
    * create a new user
    * put pictures in a folder, and not drag them from iphoto
    * change the theme
I still had the same problem.
The last thing I tried was to put all the files used by idvd on the hard disk (instead of of an external firewire disk).
It worked ! (with the small size project).
I'm trying to burn the large project again...
I will tell you if it succeeds...
    Best regards,
    Nicolas

  • Burning a DVD - keep getting encoding errors message, help?

I have a video that I made out of videos, photos, and music that is less than an hour in length.  I selected highest quality b/c it was less than the available 4.7 GB of available space.  It took over a day to burn and at the very end it gave me a message saying that it was having encoding errors.  Help!  I am trying to burn it again at reduced quality, but prefer to have it at highest quality.

Let us get the details into perspective and then we will advance from there.
What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer operating system is it running?
What are the properties of the video that went on that Timeline....video compression, audio compression, frame size, frame rate, interlaced or progressive, file extension, pixel aspect ratio....photos - how many and what pixel dimensions??
Based on the properties of your source media, what did you or the project select as the project preset?
When you go to the burn dialog for your burn to DVD, what did the quality area of the burn dialog show for Space Required and Bitrate (with a check mark next to "Fit Content to Available Space"? The only time I would work without the check mark there is if I was getting Data Rate Error message and I had to set the Bitrate manually to move forward.
What is the exact wording of the message(s) that you are getting once you hit Burn in the burn dialog?
Let us start here and then we can decide what next.
If you need clarification on anything written, please do not hesitate to ask for that clarification.
    Thank you.
