Burning a DVD that a DVD player can recognize??

I have burned my video on my ipod to a DVD, but it is not in a format that my DVD player can recognize. How can I convert this to a format that my TV's DVD player can read?
Thanks in advance!

Here is a re-post of one I had posted before. Still no answer from Apple and they deleted my Question I sent to them with NO RESPONSE! Poor customer service IMHO.
Easy As It Looks
The virtual shelves of the iTunes Music Store now feature a video section. Music videos, Pixar shorts and select NBC Universal, Sci Fi Channel, USA Network, ABC and Disney television shows live right alongside songs, podcasts and audiobooks. Browse featured listings or search the archive to find just what you want, then click to buy. Once you do, you get stutter-free, ad-free video delivered directly to your desktop. From there, the sky’s the limit, because you own purchased video forever. Watch as many times as you choose, share between five computers, burn to data CDs or sync to the new iPod. Instant gratification never looked better.
This is directly from the Apple Website and in my opinion is FALSE ADVERTISING! Note the next to the last sentance "burn to data CDs or sync to the new iPod." but yet you cannot burn to a DVD to watch on a regular TV. The pervious line says "From there, the sky’s the limit, because you own purchased video forever"....well....Apple has yet to respond to my question for over two weeks now regarding this. I guess it is time for a class action lawsuit from all those that purchased videos thinking we could watch them someplace other than sitting in our computer chairs.....or maybe this was Apple's grand plan to get us to buy the new Ipod with video capabilities.
To think that I have spent thousands to Apple....hundreds of purchased songs, Ipod Mini, Ipod Shuffle....and get the common Big Business....small customer...why should we respond to them lack of support so prevelant in American business today
Sigh. Bad form Apple!

Get the Apple USB Superdrive. It is available on the Apple store page of the Apple web site. Just look under storage on the left hand column under accessories for the Mac.  $79.  I have one since I have a lot of DVD's and CD' s. I burn DVD's made from movies created with iMovie.  Works fine. You may be able to find one cheaper at Other World Computing.
BTW, you can expect that future computers will not have optical disk drives. This is definitely true for Apple and I suspect other mfgrs will also as we move more into streaming video and downloading of apps rather than selling CD/DVD versions.

    Thanks for the reply.
Anytime I am getting too far ahead, then let me know and we can work together on putting the essentials together for this troubleshooting.
From your screenshot, you have a Windows 7 apparently 64 bit computer, lots of RAM. That computer would be great for Premiere Elements 11 Windows.
But Premiere Elements 8 is only a 32 bit application running in the 32 bit compatibility mode of your 64 bit system. So all that RAM is excessive in a 32 bit system with its limitation of max supported installed RAM being 4 GB (of which 3 GB or less of that are available).
So, the freezing and such could be explained by limited resources depending how much you have in the project when the freezing occurs and what formats are involved - like AVCHD. The burner not being recognized by Premiere Elements is probably another matter.
Let us start here....another place where you could be getting hit on the resource side of things....
    1. Background Rendering and AutoAnalzyer features in version 8 are notorious for grabbing system resources. If you have them enabled, that could account for much of the program freezing. So, please make sure they are not selected.
    a. Background Rendering. In the Premiere Elements 8 workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/General, and make sure there is no check mark next to Background Rendering option.
    b. AutoAnalzyer. In the Premiere Elements workspace, click on the Organizer tab in the row below the selected Organize header in order to open the Elements Organizer. In the Elements Organizer workspace, go to Edit Menu/Preferences/AutoAnalyzer Options and uncheck all the option under that.
To get back to the Premiere Elements workspace from the Elements Organizer workspace, in the Elements Organizer workspace go to File Menu/Exit.
For most of us, Premiere Elements 8 was unusable without the 8.0.1 Update. Did you install that? Have you ever worked successfully with your Premiere Elements 8 on the computer where it is now? And, was that with or without the 8.0.1 Update?
Let us stop here and see how we are doing.
Lots of other factors to get into including the burner recognition one.
Thanks for looking at the troubleshooting comments.

  • DVD Player can't read files burned in Finder

    Hello all,
I had an avi file that I converted to play as a DVD using ffmpegx. I burned it to a DVD-R in the Finder, ejected it, popped it back in and the DVD player says "supported disc not available." It plays fine in one of my DVD players (curiously, the older one) but not the other. I burned the exact same files using Toast, and the MBP DVD Player reads it just fine. It also plays on just the older DVD player.
DVD player will also not play the TS_VIDEO file straight off the computer, only after it is burned to a DVD-R using Toast. What is going on here?
I am just trying to find a format that will work in any reasonably new computer or player I put it in, so I can mail them out to people and not have them complain they don't work. But it doesn't even play on the brand new computer that made it. How lame is that?
    MBP 2.16 Core 2 Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I went to a very well respect technology chain of stores in England called "Maplin" to inquire about these brush cleaners.  In fact I went to two different locations to double check.  They told that there are problems with Macs where the little brushes break off and get stuck inside the machine.
So I took my IMac to the Apple store.   Decided there was no choice but to replace the drive.  I am very disappointed.  They drive runs as loud as a hair dryer (I exaggerate a litte), which I cannot believe is correct.  My computer is 4 years and my old drive was quiet as a mouse.  Looks like I will be dragging my computer back to the store.  Very disappointmented in Apple's service here.
(Also, they kept the DVD that I had in the disc when I arrived).

  • Why, after switching DVD player, can my macbook still not burn CDs?

    Hey Apple,
I wanted to ask you one thing:
My macbook Pro is a little over two years old, and I am loving it. Although, it has been a couple of months that my DVD player is not working smoothly. I went to the Genius Bar, since I couldn't even burn CDs - which is my biggest concern-, and I left it there so they could switch the DVD player completely. Now, as I try to burn CDs again, it says Medium write error again. I want to know why. I have read previous discussions, but I just bought these blank CDs, and they used to work perfectly before.
Have any idea why this is happening?

  • How to burn a slideshow to DVD for anyone to play. I burned a DVD and can play it on my mac, but will not open in windows

Need to know how to burn a DVD that can be viewed by any DVD player.  I created a DVD from a slideshow created in iPhoto.  I can open it on my computer, but it will not open or even be recognized in my home DVD player.  I asked a friend to try it on a Windows computer and he could not open it.  What's the key to creating things for friends & family that do not have Mac anything?

  • IDVD selectively won't recognize .mp4 format - how to burn for dvd player?

    Hi -
I'm trying to burn a .mp4 movie for my gf's family so they can watch it on their TV instead of my tiny comp. After trying DiskUtility and iTunes (both to no avail, DU wouldn't even allow me to select a .mp4 format to burn on the DVD; iTunes burnt the movie, but it doesn't play on the DVD player ...). I thought I'd try iDVD, but it won't recognize the movie I'd like to burn - says the format is unrecognized. Tried with another movie, same format (.mp4) and it worked just fine.
I'm really at a loss - I didn't expect it would be so difficult to burn a DVD! Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Kind regards,
    Rax

Alright, my results correspond with Russ' hypothesis: both videos I tried are in the same format & at the same FPS, the only difference b/w them is the audio. The one that worked is Stereo (L R), the one that does not is the 5.1.
Unfortunately, I do not have Quick Time Pro, I just have QTP 10.1 that came w/ Lion (& an older version that I added b/c it allows playback speed control). Here, the export options are:
    480p
    720p
    iPod touch & iPhone 3GS
iPad, iPhone 4 & Apple TV
    Audio only
None of these were an obvious choice to me, any suggestions? I've heard something about "Toast", would this be an easier / better option?
Thank you for on-going help. Very much appreicated.
    Kind regards,
    Rax

  • DVD Burns; no DVD Player Playback?

I am able to burn a DVD using DVDSP4 (Universal) and it will play back on any Mac or PC I try it on. However, putting it in various DVD Players (I've tried at least a dozen) will have it only say "Loading..." , then freeze or say "No Disc" on some; others work fine. I also tried a similar project in iDVD with the same results. Is there incompatibility with Mac-burned DVDs with some types of DVD players? I have tried Panasonic, JVC and Sony DVD Players; Apple, JVC and HP DVD-R's and different combinations of each.

It is strange that so many different players are having problems with so many diiferent forms of media, usually it is just one or two combinations and not that prevavlent.
I know some people who get iDVD to work better than DVD SP on a problematic player they have, but it is usually just one (i.e., they have one of many players act "weird") And I tried to get DVD SP discs to work on the problem player, but in fact it was sporadic as you have described.
If you can go through each step of how you are making the DVDs, compression rates, Dolby/apac rates, burn speeds etc, there may be something there (you should encode .mov outside of DVD SP)
On thing to try is to put a small few second move/FBI warning or something on the dsic, some people have indcated going to first play of a menu will mess up players for them

  • DVD Player: can I use v 5.x?

I have DVD Player installed, v4.6.5. Some commercial DVDs aren't playing on it, but they do play on my other Macs with OS 10.5.x or higher. THAT version of DVD Player is v5.0.3.
Will v5.0.3 play under OS 10.4.11? If yes, how can I download it?

"Just installed VLC v0.9.10, the recco'd version for OS 10.4.x"
Exactly which Tiger version? VLC compatible w/the version you have?
Did you repair permissions and restart your computer after installing VLC?
"Does not seem to see the DVD disc, *which never mounts on the desktop."*
Another help source (if you haven't already done so).
Go to your OS Help Menu. In the search field type dvd
Click on all the troubleshooting topics & Support Articles that pertain to your issue.
You can also do the same in Disk Utility. Open same up.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the purple button w/the "?" in the middle.
This will bring up the Help Menu.
    ===============
Make sure the commercial DVD is not dirty, smudged and/or scratched. Especially if the DVD you are trying to use is a "rental."

  • I need to upgrade to tiger if I buy an external dvd player can I install it

I have an imac with an internal CD player only, will an external DVD player work?
    Thank you.

Im not an ipad expert yet so maybe you will get answers from some that are.  But since the iphone and ipad are both IOS, I think you can get the same apps plus you would have a bigger screen.  I like to use imessage on my ipad and you can only do that on an iphone 4s or above.

  • DVD Player can't show controller

    Hey
I'm not really sure why, but starting about a month or two ago, i can no longer show the controller in DVD player. I hve the most current version (5.0.1) and do all of my regular updates. Even when i click to toggle show/hide controller in Window, it still doesn't work. i haven't been able to find anything about this anywhere. does anyone have any ideas, or has this ever happened to someone else?
    Thanks

Just discovered this problem myself, version 5.0.1, running on Leopard fully updated. When using the fullscreen view no controller shows when I move the cursor to the bottom of the screen, as it should.

  • DVD Player Can't Turn off Captions

Using DVD Player, I cannot turn off Mac captions. The DVD film has it's own subtitles, but the Mac subtitles play no matter what...regardless of my OFF settings for Subtitles.
How can I turn these off?

Make sure both "Subtitles" and "Close Captioning" are turned off in DVD Player's "Features" menu.

  • Unsupported format after burning on DVD Player

I burn many discs on iDVD and always do it the same way - I have found that a few of the discs are unable to be read on my player after burning.  So some work fine and some cannot be read in the Player.  I get the message "Unsupported Format" on my player.  Any suggestions?

If iDVD didn't have sound before you authored the DVD, you won't have sound after the DVD is created.  Did you create a self contained Quicktime movie out of your editing system before importing into iDVD?  Did the Quicktime file have sound in the Quicktime Player?  Here's an article I wrote about transferring your HD footage to DVD.  You need to break the process up into steps to avoid problems.

  • Now my superdrive won't burn any DVDs. Can someone help please?

    Hi.
I mentioned earlier in the 'won't burn dvd' topic that my Superdrive wouldn't burn DVD-Rs, saying there was a fault in the burning and the multiplexing.
Now it's spitting out my DVD+Rs as well. As a film student at a college that likes DVD submissions, this is terribly inconvenient. The computer gets as far as encoding everything, then spits out the disc as the burning begins.
I have tried completely re-loading my system, but still have a problem. Is anyone else having this problem and can they help me. Time is of the essence!
    Many thanks.
PS. Check my post on 'won't burn dvds' for more info!

Ok. As an addendum, I reset the PRAM and PMU. I also repaired disk permissions. I can burn DVD+R again at 2.4x speed. When burning, DVD-R, however, it spits out the disk and states (when I try to burn on its stated maximum speed of 2x): 'Unable to burn to "disk3" - The device failed to calibrate the laser power for this media..'
I'm not sure what that implies beyond the obvious: is there some sort of power control issue I need to deal with on the system?

  • ILuv portable DVD player, can I use as monitor from my Z1?...

Sorry, didn't know where to put this question
So I have one of these...
    http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?inv..._-I1055BLKmain
First of all, can I use it as a monitor if I was to hook it up with my Z1? I'm guessing yes but on the item description it seems to suggest it only has outputs but on the player itself I have an option of 'OUT IN and IPOD'.
Secondly, the reason I'm asking this without testing it myself, is because the LCD screen on the iLuv player is cracked, so I'd like to know if it's worth getting it fixed or not for this use.
Hope you're all cool, Abi Titmuss!!! (Happy Christmas)
