Burning a photo to a CD
I tried burning a photo to a CD. However, the CD already had a set of photos burned onto it. I ejected the CD, selected the photo again, clicked on Shared, and then on Burn, I did not get a message to insert a CD. I closed iphoto, then reopend, and still no luck. For some reason, the photo is not allowing me to burn. Also, I went back to the original file in my library, and still nothing happens when I select Burn from the Share pull down menu.
Any suggestions?

BTW, you know that using the Share-> Burn command will create a mini iPhoto Library on that disk and that won;t be readable (at east not easily) on computers that don't have iPhoto?
If you want to share with non-iPhoto users, export the pic to the Desktop and burn it to disk using the FInder.

I recently tried to burn some photos on a CD. For some reason, It did not work. Now I have a .fpbf folder on my desktop. I can't seem to get rid of it. I tried dragging it to the trash, but then I get a box asking my to type my password it, so Finder can make the changes. Doing so, does nothing at all. And when I try to burn another CD from the same .fpbf file, I get a the following message: "There are 35 items that can’t be burned because the original items can’t be found. Skip the items and continue burning?". When I skip and continue burning, nothing shows up on the CD. In the meantime, the .fpbf folder is still in my desktop. I tried changing the aliases on each pic, but it still doesn't work. Any ideas of how I can remove this folder from my desktop?

Thank you for your detailed explanation but something is seriously wrong with my computer. Although the method you have described is very similar to the one I tried in step 2 from my second post, I have since "done things" which may have complicated matters—or suggests that my computer has a more serious problem.
Here's what I did:
1). Installed Onyx and discovered that I had a .plist file (com.apple.iphotomosaic.plist) that was causing a Syntax error: "Conversion of data failed. The file is not UTF-8, or in the encoding specified in XML header, if XML." After doing some research online, I was given the understanding that downloading the iLife update 9.0.3 (I installed the more recent version, 9.0.4) would solve this problem because it would also fix some system issues. So, I downloaded it...and when it didn't solve the problem, I decided to just deleted that .plist file.
2). I read your knew post and decided to follow your directions, even though I realized they were basically the same steps I followed in the 2nd method I mentioned earlier. I say "basically" because, for some reason, after inserting a blank disc, my computer does not open the disc in the Finder. Instead, it places the blank disc's image on the Desktop, even though the Finder's Preferences and the System's Preferences are set to have it open in the Finder—nothing should be on my Desktop! (Note: When transferring the items (all folders) I want to burn to the blank disc, I did not use the Option-Click-Drag method as before, I used the Click-Drag method, which created the curved arrow in the lower left corner of each item.)
Now, for the result of "method 2," the method we basically have in common, the computer goes through the burn stage but, in the verify stage, tells me that it is unable to verify the disk, suggests that my DVD may be unreliable and that I should try another disc, and then tells me about some "fork" (?) error (-43).
I don't know what to do anymore... -
Iphoto crashes every time I try to burn a photo DVD
Every time I try to burn a photo DVD the app crashes. I have tried using both and internal and external DVD burner. I never had this problem before. Please Help

How do you burn a photo story from iphoto
I am trying to burn a photo story I created in iphoto to a disk. When I burned it this morning, all it did was burn the pictures onto the disk. What do I need to do to burn the story, in order, with the music into an actual show? Do I use a different program?

We created a slideshow in iphoto. I have tried to export it, but the option does not show up as available. When I finally got it into the iDVD, it did not contain all the music it had in the slideshow.
I would just like to get the slideshow burned so I can give it to my class for the last day of school. I didn't think it would be this complicated..... first time trying to do it on a MAC though. -
Why is it every time I burn a photo cd that I want my friends it comes out Mac OS X Extended format?
I have tried three different methods. Under old System 7 I could to format as Mac HFS, HFS Extended, DOS, Windows, or generic photo cd format.
I no longer see this option in Mac OSX. Even when I create a disk image in Windows Extended format, when I tell Finder to burn it, it comes out Mac OSX Extended.
Is there a better app to do this?If you want a DVD to be able to play video on any DVD player, you need burn/authoring software to do it. Finder can burn data, not videos (and Photo slideshows are considered videos) if you want to play it on other players.
As mentioned, there is Roxio Toast, there is also iDVD (part of the last retail iLife 11 disk still available from online resellers) and google for some others - Burn is one of them (very basic, but I've read that it works). -
I am trying to burn a photo CD for commercial processing. When I drag the folder with the exported files to the CD, all that turns up is the word "alias" and nothing is copied. How do I get the files to copy to the CD before burning? I printed and followed the instructions for doing this, but something's missing. Thank you.
Check the disc. I believe you will find a mini iPhoto library on it. That will be of no use to the photo finisher.
The Share ➙ Burn menu option:

That is not a disc that you want to give to a photofinisher. You have to export the photos to the Desktop and burn to disk with the Finder. -
Ken Burns vs Photo to Movie test
I did a quick simple test to see how iMovie's Ken Burns and Photo to Movie manage high resolution, high frequency still images as their input:
I made a 3150x1728 (5 megapixel) TIF image. I chose that particular ratio because it completely fills both NTSC and PAL 16:9 frame when imported to iMovie HD 5-6's widescreen project.
I inserted 1 pixel thin horizontal and vertical black stripes at every 100 pixel. That kind of thin (high frequency) lines tend to flicker on a TV unless they are blurred.
Then I imported the still to a widescreen NTSC (I chose NTSC for Karl, Fred, Kirk and other NTSC-geared geeks iMovie HD 6.0.3 project and applied a 2 second 1-5x zoom to it.
I did a similar zoom with Photo to Movie 3.2.2's High Quality export setting and compared the results...
Well, the iMovie zoom-in was quite interesting: at modest zoom factors many stripes were omitted and the stripes disappeared and appeared as the zoom progressed! Some stripes were rendered grayish, but they were always 1 pixel thin (a recipe for flicker on a TV!). Only near the end of the zoom-in, all the stripes appeared and begun to grow thicker (and non-flickery on a TV).
The Photo to Movie zoom-in was much "duller": all stripes were preserved and they were slightly blurred (which prevents flicker on a TV).
The winner: Photo to Movie.
The input TIF and 2 second output .dv files are below (to my surprise the 15 MB input zipped to only 1.8 MB with this material). I turned ON the high quality display for you in the .dv files, but verify that the setting sticks when viewing them with QuickTime Player Pro. You can advance one frame at a time via the left/right arrow keys.

I've seen similar results here too, burning perhaps a hundred DVDs in the last few weeks. The goal was to compare DVD slideshows created by iMovie, Photo to Movie and FotoMagico. Matti's conclusions look familiar.
My tests used photos that are the most difficult for iMovie to handle, lots of hard lines, buildings, wires, fences, roof lines, etc.
When the goal is to burn a DVD, Photo to Movie consistently delivers good quality with a variety of source images. The quality is good across a range of image sizes and content. If you like working in Photo to Movie, you can be quite confident you'll get good results.
But I like working in iMovie, so the goal of my tests was to find a way to make iMovie work better. The solution was to downsize the image before importing it to iMovie.
As Matti suggested, iMovie delivers good results if the source image is downsized before importing to iMovie. Virtually all flicker is eliminated by downsizing to 640x480 (NTSC) or 768x578 (PAL). (Downsize less if you plan to use a 2x or greater Ken Burns zoom.)
Downsizing is easily done with iPhoto's File > Export command. It takes just a few seconds to export new copies of photos at the new size.
So is Photo to Movie "better" than iMovie for slideshows? Sometimes Yes, if you don't want to resize problem images. But often not, at least from my tests. iMovie can deliver fine results too. And to be fair to iMovie, it has other advantages.
Note: Our tests may have little in common with the pictures you often shoot, the people pictures, the landscapes, the other "soft" images. They are WAY easier for iMovie to handle, and may not require downsizing. It depends on the photo's content.

Burning tiff-photos to the CD´s- error
I have tried to export photos from Aperture 2.0.1 as tiff´s to the desktop and after that I burn those photos to the CD. I repeatedly get the error message: error 0x8002006E. The burning doesn´t succeed.
I use the new Nikon D3. Earlier when I photographed with Canon EOS 1D Mk.II there was no problem.
I use Leopard 10.5.2 and the computer is MacBook Pro 17" 2,16 GHz Intel Core Duo.
Anyone have any ideas about this? Can´t deliver photos to my customers anymore.The customer insists having the photos in CD´s. I am really in need of help with this matter.
I posted this already to the Aperture discussions, but haven´t got any help so far from there.I am having the exact same problem. Very frustrating because I have never pirated any songs or books. I have always uploaded them from personal cds, tapes and vinyl or purchased them from itunes. Apple has obviously changed something in the program. I only make copies for the car and boat. I am only having this problem with the audio books I've purchased. Can not get any reply e-mail from Apple (not surprised) to my question. Is there anyone out there that can help on this issue?

Want to burn MANY photos onto SEVERAL DVDs
I want to burn many photos on DVDs. The size of all the photos is larger than a single DVD.
Is there a way I can choose the photos and start the process and just put in new DVDs as they are needed? I can't put them all in one burn folder.

I assume you want to back up your iPhoto Library and your photos, so here are different methods...
Backing up your iPhoto Library
1. Burn the iPhoto Library folder in the Finder to a CD or DVD
This method will give you a burned iPhoto Library folder that can be copied back to your computer to replace a damaged library. You can also use this method to backup an old library when you want to create a new Library to use as your current library.
insert a blank CD into your internal or external CD-RW drive and copy the iPhoto library to the CD icon on your desktop. When you drag the CD icon to the Trash/Eject button in the Dock, you are given the option to burn the CD. Click Burn and the CD is created. To burn a DVD backup of your digital images, use a DVD and a SuperDrive-equipped Mac
The easiest way to burn an iPhoto Library folder in the Finder that is larger than 4.7 gig to fit on one DVD is to burn sections of the folder.
Drag the iPhoto Library folder to the desktop
Double click the folder to open it.
Drag each Year folder to the desktop.
You should be left with the iPhoto Library folder containing all the data files, and the Year folders.
Combine whatever year folders that amount closest to a DVD burn size on one DVD. Make sure that you have burned all the Year folders, then the iPhoto Library folder with all the data files.
If you ever need to use this backup, insert the DVDs into your computer and copy the folders to the desktop. Put all the Year folders back into the iPhoto Library folder. Then put the iPhoto Library folder back into the Pictures folder.
2. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to an external drive formated for a Mac. Do not use this as your only back up as the external can also go bad.
3. Copy the ENTIRE iPhoto Library to your iPod in disk mode
4.Creating your own CDs and DVDs for viewing in iPhoto
This method is a great way to back up Albums of older photos or even your entire library if it is small enough to fit on a DVD. This method will give you a library that will mount within iPhoto in the source column to be viewed. To import any images from this library they need to be dragged into your library in the source column.
If you just want to backup the images in your library:
1) Within iPhoto select the images, albums or rolls you want to backup. Go to Share>Export and export them to a newly created folder on the desktop. Follow the directions in the next link.

when using the ken burns effect---I'm customizing the start & end settings for each photo/slide.....some of the photos/slides I'm not able to actually "zoom out" show that the entire photo fits into the screen......It seems that...if I have the "Image Size Slide" located in the bottom right corner of the screen....pulled/slide as far left (zooming out as far as it will let me)....that the entire photo should be displayed......I appreciate any insight & help..
thanksWelcome to the Apple Discussions. When you set the end or start point where you want the full image to show be sure to move the slider at the bottom to the far left. I noticed it usually defaults to slightly less than full screen.

What is the best way to burn a photo album from iPhoto to a CD?
When I burn photos in an album to a CD, and I open it afterward, why are there 7 files, and THREE folders, entitled "Data", "Modified", and "Originals", each containing sub folders with the pictures in them, and not just ONE containing the selected photos? This is so confusing. Is there a simpler way to do this?

Ken Burns reduces photo resolution in slideshows?

I'm running iPhoto 8 v7.0.1 on my new 24" 2.8GHz iMac. I've noticed something I hadn't detected in earlier versions of iPhoto- that is, when I'm playing a slideshow, photo quality if "Automatic Ken Burns" is enabled appears significantly lower than when Ken Burns is turned off. I've looked closely at a few photos that contain text and lines that can be pretty objectively judged, and photos definitely appear to be in a lower resolution and rather fuzzy if Ken Burns is enabled.
Turn Ken Burns off and play the same slideshow, and the photos appear sharp and crisp? Is this a known issue? Any way to adjust this? Thanks!
DaveI just added some text with Photoshop to a photo and ran it thru the auto KB effect slideshow and didn't see any degradation of the image/text. What size is your file? If it has small pixel dimensions then it might be fuzzy when used in the KB effect as it would be enlarged.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file. -
I recently burned photos on a few DVDs using finder. Now I have unwanted files in the sidebar of the finder window that are unresponsive and can not be deleted. I have 3 "untitled DVD " files and 1 "spaces app" file. The unwanted files occur under "Places"
