Burning a slideshow directly from iPhoto

Folks,
I am wondering if it is possible to burn a slideshow to a DVD directly from iPhoto, or if you have to export the slideshow to iDVD and then burn?
Secondly, I tried to export to iDVD last night and when the export was done, I received a message saying that the music I chose could only be played on authorized computers? This does not happen to me when I use iMovie to make a slideshow.
Thanks,
Joe B

Hi,
I have the same problem but I managed to burnd the slide show to a DVD but the sound and the changing of the pictures was not as the one on the iPhoto slide show. If you get an answer to this problem, please copy me into it.
Thanks a lot from Sweden.

  • Cannot burn CD-R direct from iPhoto Burn

Hello. I am having a problem with burning a CD-R direct from iPhoto. This is what occurs:
I insert a blank disk into the eMac. I select the album I want to burn in iPhoto. I click on the BURN button, bottom right. An error code comes on screen " You have inserted a disc containing no volumes that Mac OSX can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click ignore". I click on ignore. A message comes on indicating it is 'preparing to burn'. After a short period that message disappears and another message comes on screen saying "Burning to the HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-41208 drive" Below that is the horizontal blue barber pole, which is not spinning and below that is "Preparing data for burning". The spinning beach ball is active also. That is all that happens. I have left it on for 15 or 20 minutes and no change so I eventually just Force Quit iPhoto to end the process. I have tried commercial music CD's in the eMac and they play okay. I have put a blank disk in and dragged a test item into it from the desktop and am able to burn that okay. It just appears the iPhoto burn is messed up somehow. A day or two ago I didnt have any problem burning direct from iPhoto.
The first burning error (shown above) seems to mention 'RW/DVD'but this is a CD-R. Hope someone can give me some info on this. Thanks.
PS: Since posting this on the eMac forum, I have tried trashing thumbnails 32/64/JPG and com.apple.iphoto.plist. I have used Disk Utility to repair permissions. I have removed iPhoto from the Dock and then put it back in. No change in the above situation. Hope someone can shed more light on this problem. Thank you.

Hello and Thanks for input Bev and Brie. Yes I have tried Verbatim CD's and same results as with the Sony's I had previously been using. And Brie, I have trashed com.apple.iPhoto.plist (I mentioned that in the latter part of my original post) but no change. It has me baffled and of course unable to backup Albums direct from iPhoto, even though I can still Export to a Desktop Folder and drag to the CD for a Burn. One small thing that may or may not have a bearing on this, is that when I click the Burn 'eye' in iPhoto, at first there is no indication that anything is happening but eventually it opens and the 'eye'starts rotating. If I recall correctly, as soon as you clicked on the eye, it used to go into action immediately. Cheers and thanks again for your ideas.

  • Why can't I email photos direct from iPhoto?

Why can't I email photos directly from iPhoto, or even attach them to email?

I get a dotted frame outline with an exclamation
This is the source of all the problems. iPhoto can't mail the files because it cannot find them.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming it's 09 or later:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • How do you burn photos to CDR from Iphoto. 9.5.1

How do you burn photos in Iphoto 9.
You used to do it from Share and now I can't find the instruction.

That feature has been discontinued.  One can no longer burn a "mini" library from iPhoto to disk.
To burn photos to disk with iPhoto 9 and later the photos must be exported to a folder on the Desktop and that folder burned to disk via the Finder.

  • When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2.

When I send a photo directly from iPhoto using the Mail app on my iMac, the wrong photo appears on my iPad2 Mail app.  However the correct photo shows if I log into gmail on the iPad2.  I assume there is a glitch with my "Mail" app on the iPad2?  Any suggestions for getting the correct photo to show on iPad2?

Update:  I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto").  This seems to have corrected the issue.  I'm not sure why.  Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

  • Can I FTP large photos directly from iphoto or Photoshop Elements?

I have been uploading large jpegs onto another server using ftp plug-in with Aperture. But it strips the photo info, captions etc from the file, which is crucial information for my clients. Does any one know why this is happening, If I could ftp directly from iphoto or Photoshop elements even, it would be easier for me as I don't find aperture useful for multiple batch changes in file names and captions.
Currently I have been editing the file names and comments in iphoto, exporting 'version name' (other wise it exports the original file name) to a folder on the desktop and then importing these files into aperture where I use a plug in AperturetoFTPpro. I do have the export version box checked and not the 'master' box - By now i've lost track of which it thinks the 'master' or 'version' is!
not sure what's causing the problem, iphoto or aperture.
When i look at the metadata in aperture, I can't see the captions, but if i open the same file in photoshop and do 'apple i' the info is there.

To the best of my knowledge, there's no way to FTP directly out of iPhoto that's built into iPhoto, but you can try asking in the iPhoto forum where if anyone knows how you'll be more likely to get a response. There is a third-party product called PhotoUpLink that the developer says works with iPhoto that you could try.
The same applies to your Aperture question; try asking in the Aperture forum, though if you're using the demo plugin that comes in the Aperture Plug-In SDK, that's really not intended to be "production quality" but rather just an example of plugin development, so it may well lack capabilities or otherwise have issues. You might take a look at PhotoUpLink or Uberload for Aperture,
Not using Photoshop Elements I can't say about that, but Adobe runs their own forums for that here where you could ask.

  • Mobile Me was my default email account, so if I did any emailing like trying to send a photo directly from iphoto it would send from the mobile me address.  Is there a way to set a different default email account now that mobile me is gone?

We used Mobile Me for our default email.  So if you answered an ad from a site or tried to send a photo directly from iphoto, it would use the mobile me account. Now that its gone, can I set a different address as my default?

WEll, MobileMe has been moved & still works in iCloud.
Did you setrup an iCloud account?
Do not delete the old account yet. sign up for an iCloud account if you haven't.
MAKE A NEW ACCOUNT - DO NOT TRY TO ALTER YOUR EXISTING ACCOUNT.
I understand .mac mail will still come through. Do not delete the old account yet.
You cannot use .mac or MobileMe as type of Account, you have to choose IMAP when setting up, otherwise Mail is hard coded to change imap.mail.me.com to mail.me.com & smtp.mail.me.com to smtp.me.com, no matter what you try to enter.
iCloud Mail setup, do not choose .mac or MobileMe as type, but choose IMAP...
On second step where it asks "Description", it has to be a unique name, but you can still use your email address.
    IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:
    • Server name: imap.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 993
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
    SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
    • Server name: smtp.mail.me.com
    • SSL Required: Yes
    • Port: 587
    • SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
    • Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
    • Password: Your iCloud password
Also, you must upgrade your password to meet the new criteria:  8 characters, including upper and lower case and numbers.  If you have an older password that does not meet these criteria, when you try to setup mail on your mac, using all of the IMAP criteria listed above, it will still give a server error message.  Go to   http://appleid.apple.com         then follow directions to change your password, then go back to setting up your mail using the IMAP instructions above.

I understand, as that was the place I would change it before 8.3 but now that option of Mail Days to Sync is not available?  Any idea why that would be?

Wanting to use Photoshop CS6 to open images directly from iPhoto 11.
Using OSX10.8.2 and iPhoto 11.  Just installed Photoshop CS6 and want to open
images directly from iPhoto.    Before I installed PS I was not able to edit photos
in iPhoto 11.  Nothing happens when I click on ‘edit‘ it is blank.
And now it will not work using Photoshop CS6 either.
From Help Center I have gone to iPhoto/Preferences/ Advanced and chosen Photoshop CS6  to Edit Photos but then cannot find an 'Open' to click? Perhaps this is the problem?
When I select a photo in iPhoto and click the Edit button - nothing happens.
    Please advise. Glenys

This may be of help to you:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

I'm not really sure what you're actually trying to achieve? Your method seems rather convoluted.
Are you trying to rename and add comments to photos and then upload them to an ftp site?
You cannot ftp directly from iPhoto (or Elements either.) iPhoto 6 has poor abilities to export metadata. I'm not sure why you're involving iPhoto at all. Aperture is well capable of editing the IPTC data - renaming files, adding captions etc - and the exporting the files with that metadata. It is also well capable of batch renaming and editing. With your ftp plug-in I see no reason why you need iPhoto.
If you can explain in more detail what you're trying to achieve then perhaps we can help more.

  • I am trying to move a "face" photo from IPhoto to the picture well in a contact in my "Contacts".  Can't drag directly from iPhoto to picture well.  How do I do it?

I am tring to move a "face" photo from IPhote to the picture well in a contact from my "Contacts list". I followed directions in Help but Cannot double click the picture well then drag a photo.  It won't accept it directly from IPhoto. Once you double click on the picture well then click on the photo (in another application-IPhoto) it apparently negates the double click on the picture well.   The only place it will take a picture from is the "recents" that you get when you double click on the picture well in contacts.  How do I get the photo to the "recents" or to the picture well?

    Hi cavu10horses,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has instructions for changing a contact's photo using a photo from iPhoto's Faces feature:
Contacts: Add or change contact pictures
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11580
Select a contact or your own card, and then double-click the picture well.
    Select a picture:
Drag an image to the picture well.
Click Camera to take a picture.
If you have pictures in iPhoto, click the Faces button to use a face from iPhoto.
If the contact is linked (it’s in multiple accounts, but displayed only once in Contacts) and has multiple account pictures, click Linked.
Click Edit to edit the picture.
To zoom in and out of the picture, drag the slider. Drag the picture to change which part of it is visible.
To rotate the picture, hold down the Option key while you click and drag the picture.
To apply special effects, click the Effects Gallery button and choose an effect.
    Click Done.
    Cheers,

  • Mailing directly from iPhoto creates .txt attachments for each photo

When I am in iPhoto, and I mail several pictures directly from iPhoto using Apple Mail, the resulting message gets sent with a .txt attachment (presumably with the photo file name) in between each photo. So if there are 30 photos, there will also be an additional 30 text attachments.
This is extremely annoying and confusing for the recipients, is there anyway of stopping this? I did deselect the option to send the titles and comments, so I have no idea why it is inserting these extra text attachments.

I tried toggling that option and testing it, and it still showed the extra .txt attachments. I looked at the files, and they are blank 4k attachments. Now if I add comments between the pictures, this text shows up in these attachments.
I noticed that in iPhoto, if you email directly using the Email button there, and deselect comments and titles, the pictures are inserted into the message with a few blank lines of text in between. When the mail is sent these blank lines are converted into text attachments.
I did an experiment and sent an email by manually attaching pictures in Mail, and ensuring there was no spaces or text in between them, and it worked. No text attachments. The moment I inserted some text or even blank lines between the photos in the message, it sent these as additional text attachments.
I tried switching to RTF format messages instead of Plain Text (which I use by default), and it still did the same thing.
I guess it's just how Mail always wants to put the picture in the body of the message, rather than just attach it to the message without displaying it on the screen... Is there a way to turn this automatic display of attachments off when composing?

  • Recipients of images sent direct from iPhoto are unable to open them, please help

When I send images in an e-mail direct from iPhoto recipients are unable to access them as they do not arrive as jpegs.  Please give me a clue how I can remedy this.

Perseverance pays off.  I have found that I need to export the images I require into a folder in Pictures and this ensures they are jpegs and can be opened by my recipients.  Hope this reply helps others or am I just a slow learner!!

I updated iPhoto this morning. And now I can't email photos directly from iPhoto. Whats that all about?

Which iPhoto version did you update to?
If it is iPhoto 9.6 open iPhoto's preferences, go to the Accounts pane and delete the email account.
Now quit iPhoto, relaunch, and add the account back.
You may have to restart the Mac for this to have effect.
If you are using iPhoto as Mail client, you may want to switch to Mail as the email client in iPhoto's General preference pane.
This has been much more reliable in the past and less trouble.
