Burning a Slideshow off iPhoto onto a CD. HELP!
I'm finding it difficult to burn a slideshow off iPhoto onto my CD.
Is it my CD or is it the way I'm exporting the slideshow?

I do find that using one of these programs will reduce the sharpness of the photos.
Granted, I've never used iPhoto - I use Photo to Movie for slideshows and various versions of iMovie for videos, but my pics are excellent quality and my videos are shot in 1080p (better camera) or 720p (small camera) and the results are superb on my TV using both iDVD and Toast. However, I do not encode in iDVD, I simply use it to add a theme and menus. The encoding is done by Photo to Movie, or iMovie 06 HD (the only version ever to process losslessly) and either/both are imported into iDVD as a complete .mov, or Toast.
Since using those methods, I've never had a problem with the sharpness or crispness of my footage. My eyes cannot discern a difference between my "production" and true HD (unless of course I shook the camera while shooting, LOL). -
Trying to burn a slideshow to dvd.I can get it just the way I want in Iphoto,but when I send it to Idvd,it changes akk the transition settings.Help?
Try exporting the slideshow as a QT movie file. It should keep all of your transitions, etc. and then you can drag the QT file into the iDVD menu being careful to avoid any drop zones.

Do you want to use this DVD in a domestic DVD player? If so, then the disk will have to be 'authored' to make it the correct form for that. If you have iDVD then that's the app you use. However, iDVD is no longer developed or distributed by Apple. You may be able to get it on an old iLIfe install disk.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What is the final destination of the slideshow? Do you want to play it on a DVD player thru a TV set of just put it on a CD disk to move to another location?
If it's the first option then you can use the Share->Send to iDVD menu and it will be created and imported into a new iDVD project. Or you can follow Terence's workflow of exporting as a QT movie. Then open iDVD, select your theme, add a slideshow by clicking on the"+" button, and drag the QT movie into the slideshow. This will scale the movie to the TV Safe area so that none of it is lost to the TV overscan when play on conventional CRT TV sets.
A last thought about iDVD. It's been my experience that I get better final image quality if I create the slideshow in iDVD by importing the still photos into the slideshow window and add the transition and audio track(s) there.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.≤br>
Note: There now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard. -

I have a slide show with music and I want to burn both to a disk to give to friends who have Macs and PCs. Is there a disk that will record both? Is it best to burn from iDVD or Toast 7?

Most of the time when a PC can't play a DVD, an update of WinDVD needs to be downloaded (provided the PC has a DVD-Rom drive). Most PCs seem to be geared for "business" so multi-media stuff is outdated and forgotten. Or, if the PC can't play a DVD it may be because it only has a CD-Rom drive (as many PCs only do), and in this case it's time to chuck the PC and buy a Mac

How to Make DVD Slideshow From iPhoto? I need help !!!!!
What's the easiest way to import about 160 photos from iPhoto to a DVD with background music to send to Grandmom as a slideshow? She's 83 and really wants to see a bunch of pictures of her grandkids, and loves the DVDs I've done in the past (using iLife '06). I now have iLife 2009.
I have attempted to get a DVD with music to burn, but it isn't working. As in the past, I have gone from iPhoto, dropping the selected photos into iMovie, added music from iTunes, and imported that to iDVD but it takes Sooooooo long (seems like this route used to be faster). Any way shorter? More efficient?
I do it that way because I recall that iDVD in prior versions was restricted to 99 photos, so I always went from iPhoto to iMovie to iDVD. But '09 is different than '06; I can't even get music to import from iTunes or play on the DVD I burned using this rather long procedure(not copy protected, either). So, I'm at a loss.
What am I doing wrong? How do I do it correctly?
Step by step instructions would be much appreciated!Welcome to the Apple Discussions. You have to have a theme but you can have the slideshow begin automatically when the disk is inserted into a DVD player. Go to the Map mode in iDVD and drag the slideshow into the blue box at the far left:

But there has to be a theme for iDVD to drop back to when it finishes the slideshow. BUT you could set the slideshow to loop endlessly so it would never drop back to the theme unless you stopped it manually and exited to the theme. You set the repeat option in the Advanced menu.

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:

I am trying to burn a slideshow in iphoto directly to a dvd. I exported it to idvd, but have never used idvd and can't figure it out and don't have time right now. I just want to made a copy of a completed slideshow which exists in iphoto. Doesn't seem it should be this hard, but since I'm short on time, everything seems hard. Any help will be much appreciated! Do you want play the sideshow on a TV set? If so you need to use the Share ➙ iDVD menu option while in the slideshow mode. That will open iDVD and add the movie as a Quicktime file to the iDVD project.
Then make what changes to the theme of the project and use the File ➙ Save as Disk Image menu option. This will create a disk image of the project. Open the disk image and launch DVD Player to play the DVD. If the disk image plays OK in DVD Player that's an indication that the encoding process was successful.
Next burn the disk image to disk using Disk Utility and burn at the slowest speed possible to ensure the best burn. Also use good quality disks like Verbatium, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R. When you're done you'll be able to play the sideshow in any set top DVD player on a TV set.
If you just want a Quicktime movie version of your slideshow use the Export button at the bottom of the window and select size of the movie you want, usually medium or large.

Then you can drag the movie file onto an empty disk on the desktop to burn. However, this method will require you to have a computer with Quicktime installed in order to play the slideshow.

How do you burn a slideshow to a DVD that will play on DVD players and PC computers?
I burned a slideshow in Aperture onto a DVD containing about 40 photos with a sound track from iTunes. The disk will play on my iMac but not on my wife's PC or on two of our DVD players (less than three years old.). What am I missing in the burning sequence that causes the problem?
What Shutttleworth says is the way to go however you might run into one gotcha, iDvd is no longer available if you bought your current machine with Lion on it.
iDvd use to be part of iLife but is no longer offered as either a seperate download from the App Store or as part of any App Store bundle. If you can still find an iLife boxed set iDvd will be on the DVD in the box. Other then that you'll need to look at thrid party solutions.
Of course if you upgraded to Lion and had iLife before the upgrade you should have a copy of iDvd.

That's not true. Setup your slideshow as you want it in iPhoto with the music and transition that you want. Then, while in the slideshow mode, select Share->Send to iDVD. iPhoto will create a Quicktime movie of the slideshow, save it in the User/Library/Pictures/iPhoto Slideshow folder, open iDVD and add the QT movie to project. I just ran a test and it worked exactly as I described. -
Burning a slideshow onto a CD??
I have created a slideshow on iPhoto complete with music and the Ken Burns effect I like. I would like to burn that very slideshow onto a CD. Should I burn it onto a DVD?? I would actually like to take several separate slideshows (each with their own music) that I have made of several trips all taken during the summer onto a CD or DVD. I have tried to import it into iMovie but it doesn't provide the Burns effect. It seems silly that Apple would let you create such a creative slideshow on iPhoto but not allow you to share it. It seems like the only option is to create one in the very boring iMovie format. Can anyone set me straight?

Where do you want to play these slideshows? On a TV set? If so then let me suggest a possible way to do it:
1 - export each slideshow to Quicktime, max resolution.
2 - create an iDVD project, select a theme and add a slideshow via the button at the bottom. \
3 - open the slideshow in iDVD and drag one of the QT movie files into it.
Note: If you want them to all play one after the other drag all of the QT movie files into the one slideshow window in the order you want them to play.
4 - create a separate iDVD slideshow for each of the QT movie file you've created.
This will let you scale the movies to the TV Safe Area so that none of the movie is lost on conventional CRT TV sets due to TV overscan. That option is set in iDVD's Slideshow Preferences.
Also, if you want to use iMovie to add audio more precisely to a slideshow you can use iMovie HD 6 which Apple has made available to iLife 08 users. IMO it's a much better movie editor if you want to have more control over the many features.
