Burning a song to a CD!

I have never had this happen.  I downloaded an album and the first song cannot be recorded on a CD.  It reads, It is not a file and cannot be burned.  Only a file on hard drive can be burned.  I have a rather new computer.  Any suggestions???
Thank you!

Yes just rightclick the song and select "Get Info". In the following box that appears hit the "Options" tab, here you will put a check mark beside "Start Time". BBy default its usually on 0:00. If your wanting just 30 seconds took off you will put 0:30 in there and hit OK. Now the song when selected in iTUnes or burned to a disc will start 30 seconds into the song

  • How many times can I burn a song to CD?

It's been a while, but I read somewhere, that there is a limit to how many times you can burn a song off your Library. I understand the reason for that. I think it said something like 7 times?? I have an iPod, and normally transfer my playlists to it. I change my playlists frequently, so if I were to burn these to CD, I'd have long ago used up my limit.
I have a nice CD player in my Jeep now. I can't hook my iPod to it, so I want to burn some playlists to CD for my Jeep stereo. Do I need to be careful, not to exceed a certain allowance?...or am I just in error, and there is no need to worry?
Was this limit in regards to an entire Album? and single songs in a ever changing playlist is okay?

Is there a way to check to see if a song is DRM protected?
I have been reading what I can on the subject, and it appears I can expect the songs I've purchased from iTunes online, like my AC/DC albums, Scorpions Albums, and Zappa, etc. and etc. are going to be DRM protected.
Maybe I should have bought these Albums elsewhere...but...(shrug)
I have many Celine Albums and Satriani, Heart, etc. that I purchased elsewhere.
Really, the bulk of my Library is made up of songs from CD's I've imported into my Library. I've looked for some evidence of this DRM protection, and I don't see anything..other than an FBI copy theft warning.
Finally, I guess I am a tad bit confused still. I understand any of my songs DRM protected, if I use them in a playlist, any playlist 7 times.. I will be limited now, to only 7 downloads to a CD. That does cause me to rethink how I wish to make playlists.
Am I right to assume now...any song in my playlists that are not under this DRM grip, I will not have to fear using them in a playlist?
On one hand I understand the reasons for protection...and it has nothing to do with decent folks like us. But what irritates me...is I paid for that music...and I should be able to make CD playlists as often as I want....live and learn.
I suppose I should never invest my money on Albums or songs as downloads over the internet. Just go buy the CD?...right?

  • Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs. When I put the DVD into another computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. What's preventing songs from being ripped?

Hello - I used a Sony DVD to burn 350 songs from my iTunes library to share with a friend. When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes. Anybody know what's preventing me from ripping what's on the DVD?

When I put the DVD into my friend's computer to rip those 350 songs, the 'import songs' button never appeared in the lower right hand corner of iTunes.
The import command only works with audio CDs. So if you burned the files in mp3 format, try instead using the "File > Add file to library" or "File > Add folder to library" commands.

  • Burns correct song, but wrong file name

I have been burning a song of mine. After the song is finished burning I click on the cd icon and when it opens it shows a name of a different song. When I play the cd it plays the correct song-the one I burned! The name it labels it with is a drum track I once created so I deleted the drum track, restarted the computer, etc. It still burns the right song but names it with the track I deleted. I am preparing this cd to go out to radio stations and, although my outside labelling (cd art, Lightscribe on the cd) identifies the song, I am afraid of what will happen if the cd is downloaded, e.g. it won't show up with it' correct name.

I burn cds with iTunes-my own music imported from Garageband into iTunes.
I deleted all copies of the song that keeps being labeled on my new songs from iTunes.
I see there are iTunes Library data files in my iTunes folder, but I can't open them. There is also a folder labelled Previous iTunes Libraries with old dates on them. I don't know why they are there.
I repair permissions and restart my computer regularly.
Following the lead of some other apple discussion threds where people have had the same problem I created a 1-second silent track and added it to the playlist of the one song I was burning. Then I labeled the silent track and my demo under one album name. Then it burned and labeled okay. It turns out this problem only happens when you are burning single songs. Burning albums don't have this problem. Compilations will have this problem if you don't change all the songs to one album heading. Also, it happens with any single song burn, not just my Garageband stuff. I tried burning a single Bob Dylan song and it still came out labeled with the wrong name, the same ones iTunes put on my demo.

  • Can you burn partial songs onto a cd??

I am just getting situated with itunes and was wondering how you can burn songs onto a cd from itunes and if you can burn only portions of songs??

    Hello peterpt,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
You can burn portions of songs by changing the Start/Stop time of each song. To do this, locate one of the songs you wish to burn a portion of, right->click on it and choose "Get Info" from the Shortcut menu. From there, head over to the options tab, where you will see two different boxes for adjusting the start and stop time.
The burn CD will only burn the song from the time you specified it to start as well as the end. Just make sure that if you want to hear the whole song after that, to change the settings back to how they were originally.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I burn a song without it going into an album

How do I burn a song without it going into an album

    Hi Rusty Bucket Head,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  If your song is incomplete when you try to play it, you can delete it and try redownloading it as described here:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
If the second download still has the same issue, you can report the issue to the iTunes Store by following this article:

  • Burn with song names etc...

Im gonna burn a few songs to a CD-RW and was just checking which burning method i need to set in iTunes to burn with song names, album names etc.
Also, can i burn to a DVD-RW with these settings
NB: the CD will be imported into an iTunes Libary, and not really played in a CD player.

You want to burn your disc as a Data disc. This will maintain all the ID3 tag information you have entered.
    1. Create a Playlist with the content you want to burn to disc.
    2. Open iTunes Prefs > Advanced >Burning (Prefs > Burning in pre-iTunes 5).
    3. Select the Data CD or DVD option and click OK.
    4. Highlight the Playlist and click the Burn button in the upper right corner of the window.

I tunes has started to selectively remove songs from a playlist when i try to burn it saying that the computer needs to authorize this song?  How is that done?  i thought you authorized the computer to play the songs?

that's what the message should be referring too

    hope this helps:)
ps: if you are burning purchases to a playlist, you are limited to burn the songs to a CD 7 times so if you exceed that amount for purchases iTunes won't let you

Please advise

I think I solved this for me. I had Netbarrier set to enable "Information Hiding" when I first had this problem. Unchecking that setting solved the problem.

  • Import CD at AAC 192 Kbps, burn some songs to new CD = inferior quality

I recently burned some songs from iTunes to a CD for my wife to listen to in the kitchen.
When I went in, the audio quality was definitely much poorer than the original CD.
    So, I did some testing.
Even at 192 Kbps import of the CD song into iTunes, the output sounds much poorer.
So I re-imported the AIFF file directly from the CD and compared waveforms. They are Very different.
Are CD burns intentionally crippled by iTunes?

Well guys, I have to say I think it may be Red Herring time...
I re-imported a new test track (Joe Farrell -" Outback" - has lots of dynamic range) using Apple Lossless. I then burned a CD -
    Outback AAC 192kbps
    Outback Lossless
Then I re-imported the CD (both tracks) as Lossless and compared them in QT player (synchronized playing, looped, so I could switch between them during playback).
I had five files sync'ed up in QT player:
    1) The original AIFF file from the original Joe Farrell CD
    2) The iTunes library version of the 192k original import
    3) The iTunes library version of the Lossless original import
    4) The iTunes-burned CD re-imported version of the 192k original import
    5) The iTunes-burned CD re-imported version of the Lossless original import
Listening with my Shure e3 in-ear phones, I could not hear any differences between any of them.
Tomorrow I will compare the waveforms and spectra...
(BTW- The original disc I imported at 192k and burned still sounds bad, but the problem is probably not iTunes. Could be a bad CD-R, I guess)

  • Burning Modified Songs

On iTunes you are able to change the start/end time of a song. If you change the time on a certain song and burn the song onto a CD, will it start from that time or from the beginning?

This is the wrong section please post in the itunes section. This is the using the ipod mini section.

  • Can't burn m4p songs to audio cd

I used to be able to burn m4p songs to an audio CD in iTunes.
This does not seem to work anymore.
If I create a playlist with my m4p songs then burn it to an Audio CD, nothing happens.  If I add a few mp3 files to the playlist and burn it, only the mp3 files get placed in the audio CD.
I'd like to burn my songs to CD and be able to play it in my car's CD player.
When did this feature go away? And is there a way to do this now?

As an update to my previous post, I took one of the playlists with both songs with a purchase date and songs without.  All of the songs were .m4p files.  iTunes only burned the songs with a purchase date.  Some of these songs were from 2003, some were from 2006.  I then deleted 3 of the songs without a purchase date, re-downloaded them, and put the re-downloaded songs back in the playlist.  They now had the current date as the purchase date.  iTunes burned those along with the others with a purchase date, but still skipped the ones without a purchase date.  I have purchase dates dating back to June, 2003, but as I sorted them, I found over 1600 protected files without purchase dates (out of 2700).  I know they burned before because I have some playlists that contained some of these songs that were burned previously.  I also know from some printouts I made several years ago that many of these songs had purchase dates.  It's as though the database corrupted and the purchase dates went missing; now they won't burn without them.  I did open a ticket regarding the missing purchase dates.  We'll see what happens.  I realize that I could delete and re-download most of the songs (some are no longer available in the store), but I'd have to annotate my playlists first, then delete, re-download, then re-populate the playlists.  WAY too much work.
