Burning a VCD

I have made a slide show and successfully burned it as a VCD,but when I tried to do the same again with the same slide show windows displays that there is an errror with Elements 7 and needs to close. I Would be extremely grateful for any help that could resolve this problem. The VCD is for a family member who wants two more copies and I am loath to tell them that I can not do it.

Does anyone know how to burn that to a VCD (or mpeg-2 to SVCD)?
Yes. Try Burn at http://burn-osx.sourceforge.net/ It's free. With Burn you can burn four kind of video disks. VCD, SVCD, DVD and DivX disks.
Is it as simple as burning the file to a CD?
No.

  • Problem with burning a VCD and a DVD in Photoshop Elements 7

For some reason I can no longer burn a DVD or a VCD thru elements.  When trying to burn a VCD on the Burn Screen Popup Screen under Select Destination Drive is blank and where you would select Drive speed nothing is in the drop down menu.
on creating a DVD  when it comes up to burn disk under status no burners detected shows up.
I have created DVD's and VCDs before dont know why I'm having problem now.
I'm using Vista.  In the past when using XP I believe I had to deselect DLA option on Drive where I burn but this option is not available to select.
I have no problem burning DVD or VCDs via windows.

    Walter,
As Paul_LS states, the movies need to be combined in PE (or another editing program) due to the DVD-specs. They allow only one movie (in your case the combined Projects) per DVD disc. There are a few programs that can "hack" the DVD structure, but they are a lot of work, and usually do not yield the results that the user is seeking. This is not a limitation of PE.
You can also place your DVD Markers to the start of each of these movies, to all navigation in the DVD to each, should you wish.
    Good luck,

  • Burning a VCD using iMovie

I need to make a video of myself teaching in order to finish my licensing for teaching in Indiana, but it appears the video needs to be submitted on a video cd instead of a dvd. I have iMovie HD 6 and iLife '08 (PowerBook G4 1Ghz), but I have not had to much luck beyond the "Burn Project to Disk" command in the File menu of iMovie. Is this action the method for burning a VCD or do I need to find some shareware or install my old Toast 6? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

  • Any good alternatives to DVD burning? VCD? S-VHS?

I am totally disillusioned with the time it takes to encode and burn a DVD with my PB. AppleCare acknowledges that it takes 8x - 10x source material for successful burning & if you look on these (amazingly honest & helpful)forums you soon learn that DVD burning on any Mac can be very intimidating and problematic.
I am wondering if there is info readily available for alternatives:
    1. VCD burning. I have a ton of small clips and could trim down larger clips to burn onto cds. Are there crazy problems with this as with DVDs?
    2. This PB has an S-VHS output & I got a stereo audio cord for output. Will videos created like this be viewable? I suppose it depends on the quality of original material & how do I find this info?
My PB is loaded with every imaginable video and audio pro & standard app. including ToastTitanium7, FinalCutPro, CinemaTools, DVD-StudioPro, QuickTimePro7 etc.
I was praying that DVD burning was a lot simpler than my experiences with Windows based machines. There one needed to have a stand alone powerhouse & Re-Install Windows every couple dozen burns to get rid of all the corruption but not even doing that with a Mac seems to make the process as easy as Advertised. Live & learn.
    thanks,
    frank

I can only speak from my experience, but I've not found creating and burning DVDs to be at all intimidating and certainly not problematic. Every video DVD I've created has gone smoothly; your mileage may vary, of course. Please note that these forums are for people who are having problems; the many, many people who use their systems with no trouble at all have little incentive to post in a troubleshooting forum.
I notice that you list a number of pro apps including DVD Studio Pro; DVDSP is not intended for consumer use and has a very steep learning curve (although DVDSP 4 has a mode with a simplified interface that's easier, but it still takes some learning). If you want simple, you should be using iDVD; that's Apple's consumer application for creating video DVDs, and the latest versions of iDVD and iMovie (part of iLife '06) make it, in my experience, about as easy as it can get. You can get results with DVD Studio Pro that you cannot with iDVD, but it's going to take work, just as working with FInal Cut Pro will involve more learning time than working with iMovie.
As to creation time for the disk, that's strictly a function of how fast your system can process. Compressing to MPEG-2 (which is the format video DVDs use and which is what takes the majority of the time involved in burning the DVD) takes a lot of processor horsepower, and a single-processor PowerBook isn't going to be as fast as a dual-processor G4 and much less so than a G5. If you're encoding and burning DVDs regularly, you might want to consider moving to a system with higher processing power. To optimize compression time on your PB in the meanwhile, make sure that no other application is running when you're processing the DVD and that your system has plenty of available hard drive space (for the temporary files that will be created).
As to alternatives, that depends on your needs. If you need playback in a DVD player, then burning a DVD will be your best route. Very few players can play a VCD, and as MacNoel said, quality isn't stellar. Whether or not VHS would be an acceptable alternative only you can say.

  • Burning multiple copies of slideshows

I made a great slideshow of wedding pictures but it takes forever to burn each disc because the program makes a new .wmv file each time. Is there a better way to do this? I tried saving the .wmv file but it didn't seem to make a difference. Each time I select 'burn a vcd' the process seems to start from the beginning.

If you use ULead Movie Factory 5, it will take around 4 to 5 minutes AFTER the first copy.
Place the wmv file in the add video section.
Select no menu's if you want.
The first build will take awhile.
    After you burn the dvd,
choose to return to the finish page.
Add a blank disc, and click on burn again.
I had a slide show that took around 2 hours for
Photoshop to create wmv file (200 pictures with a lot of panning and zooming) about 15 seconds per slide.
The Movie Factory 5 took awhile also if I remember correctly
to redo the wmv to vob conversion.
BUT...the reburns were around 4 minutes 37 seconds.
I believe the free trial download gives you every thing.

  • VCD slide show

Using Elements 4 in win I get pretty alful results when burning a VCD slide show to a CD. It is really slow, whole process takes almost 20 seconds per slide to process and burn and video quality is poor. I can export the same picture file to ProShow Gold, use their transistions and burn a VCD in about 5 seconds per slide. Picture quality is also about 4 times better. Is this just the way it is, or is there a better way to get a disk that shows both on PC and TV. JPEG files work great but no transistions.........roy barker

    Richard,
    >How about creating DVD (as opposed to VCD) slide shows in Elements 4, are they ok or do they have the same problems?
You can not burn a slide show to a DVD for playing on your TV using Photoshop Elements 4.
    1) The following techdoc describes the possible interfaces to make the DVD from Adobe Premiere Elements
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/330734.html
techdoc says PSE 3, but I believe it is the same for PSE 4.
    2) You can save the slide show within PSE 4, as a WMV file and then use other software to author the DVD (encode as MPEG2 format and build folder structure required for TV DVD players). For example, My DVD player came with a limited version of Sonic MyDVD and I have made a TV playable DVD using this process. (Of course, you can do this same process using PSE 3.)
    General comments:
Any time you save the slide show first as a WMV file and then separately make the MPEG2 DVD, there is some degradation of the image quality. So in the above sequences, this is only this avoided by doing the Send to Premiere Elements command. However, when doing a slide show (video) of family snapshots, you may still be OK on quality with the WMV then DVD steps and it will be significantly better than a VCD from PSE 4.
Purchasing PSE 4 for the purpose of making slide shows has disappointed many people. Its slide show functions are enhanced over PSE 3, but as I mentioned there is still no DVD burning in PSE. Spending your money on a separate slide show program might be a more cost effective choice if your top priority is slide shows. If you are purchasing PSE 4 for other reasons, then I suggest experimenting.
If you consider purchasing Premiere Elements, be sure to check the hardware and software requirements very, very, very carefully. You need Windows XP as a starter, but the processor requirements are also significantly higher.

  • Why can't I burn iMovie to DVD???

i used iMovie 3 to export to Quicktime. when i try to burn the Quicktime movie to a DVD using Toast, i get an error message saying "CD-ROM XA or Audio tracks cannot be written to a DVD".
then i tried to use iDVD but my iMovie 3 says i need iDVD 3, which i can't find anywhere. Apple will sell me iLife but i don't need all of the other programs.
how do i burn an iMovie to a DVD?

Quick search turned up the folling at the Roxio web site...
When burning a DVD, I receive the error message "CD-ROM XA or audio tracks cannot be written to DVD"
    Resolution
You cannot burn a VCD/SVCD to a DVD (this is a limitation of the VCD/SVCD standard). You can burn a DVD using the DVD option that is located under the VCD/SVCD option in the drawer.

  • VCD 2 channel audio

    Hi,
I copied a avseq01.dat file from a VCD to my hard disk, then I dragged the file to Toast 6 video window and burn a VCD out of it. When I played the copied version on my stand alone DVD player, it played but I encouted audio problem. I couldn't select the language that I prefered (the original VCD is a dual language audio), and instead the audio is kind of mixed with noisy dual language.
Would you please tell me what can I do to correct this problem? In fact, I only one language. Please advise.
    Thanks a lot

    Thanks Doug.
The .dat file I copied was long time ago because I didn't have time to watch it, the original VCD is no longer with me. I thought that was the quickest way to make a copy for later viewing. Now then I realised that it doesn't work. Is there a way I can do in order to make the audio work when I watch in DVD player? Shall I do something to .dat file before I burn VCD? Well, you are right, I should have think of copy it by using toast that time.
    Please help. Thanks

  • Have pse7 using windows 7 it wont recognize my dvd so i cant make vcds

Have pse7 using windows 7 it wont recognize my dvd burner so i cant make any vcds. The pc is brand new.

You appear to have a burner recognition problem that is manifesting itself when you try to do the burn to VCD in the Organizer 7 Slideshow Editor.
I will not get into the classical VCD (352 x 240) versus DVD (720 x 480) obvious considerations.
Your issue may go deeper than an Organizer VCD burn feature. Are you sure that you are not dealing with a Windows DVD/CD burner recognition issue rather than Organizer 7 Slideshow Editor VCD not recognizing your burner?
For troubleshooting purposes, can you or have you successfully burned one of your wmv files to DVD-VIDEO on DVD using something like Windows DVD maker on this same computer same burner if you can see the burner? Put another way, if you open to Computer to view your drives, is your DVD/CD drive displayed there?

Do you have the Windows DVD Maker included on your Windows 7 64 bit computer? If you do not know, in Search, please type in Windows DVD Maker and see if it is revealed.

  • Slideshow burn in PSE 9

The last time I burned a VCD slideshow (a month ago), I had no trouble.  Today, when I tried to burn a VCD slideshow, the Sonic Solutions screen popped up, but it did not list or recognize my CD burner. After several attenpts to correct the situation, including consulting Microsoft, I went to "System Restore" and restored my computer to the date on which I last successfully burned a VCD slideshow. It worked wonderfully. I was able to create my VCD.
What do I do now? I went back to "System Restore," and returned my system to today's date. As an experiment, I attempted to burn the VCD again. Once again, Sonic Solutions did not recognize my CD burner.  How can I correct this problem?
I've never used "System Restore" until today.  Should I return to the settings of a month ago, when I could burn a VCD slideshow? What could have happened within the past month to cause this problem?
If I uninstall and re-install PSE9, will I lose all of the files I have stored in the organizer?
Won't you please help me?  Thanks!

When you open a project, there is an option to launch Add Media window from where you can access files from Catalog or a particular album.

  • Newbie Here - How to Create a Slide Show in CS5?

I am using Windows 7 and I am familiar with PSElements 8 where creating a slide show is easy.  I just want to create a slide show in CS5 (in Bridge??  View>Slideshow Options?) using vacation photos from several folders, and I want to order them manually.
First, I can't figure out how to display more than one folder in the Content panel in Bridge.  Second, I can't figure out how to create and intersperse "blank" slides with text.   Third (and I haven't even gotten this far yet), how do I save the slide show and burn a VCD?  This was all so easy and intuitive in PSE8, I can't believe it seems nearly impossible in CS5!
As an alternative, should I simply re-save the photos as JPEGs (they are PSDs now), export them to a Desktop folder, open them in PSE8 and create the slide show there instead?   Thanks for any help and suggestions!

    1) Bridge has a new feature (can't think of the term at the moment) but it works like instancing or virtual copies. Select all of the photo's that you want and place them in the "collection" (Ah I knew I would think of it) Move to another folder and move them into the same collection and so on. These are virtual copies in that they don't really exist, but are a link to the original images. You then can use the collection for the slide show.
    2) Just create a page same size as your photo's in photoshop with what ever color background and put your text on it.
3A)The slide show can be exported as a pdf or swf. Windows can then copy the file to a cd. If you choose swf, you may need to alter the html file (I assume it generates one, if not it isn't har to create one) The html file would help the web browser determine the correct size to display at. If you have flash, it can be used to create a html file as well.
3B)If you would like the slide show to be displayed on a tv screen, then your cd/dvd will need to use a format that your dvd player can play, mp2 is the standard, but some can display jpg's, some are blue ray, etc. For exporting into the correct video format, then one of the following can be used. After Effects, Premeire pro, Encore, Photoshop (If you have quicktime installed and you are using one of the formats that quicktime supports like mp4)
If you have quicktime installed, paying the 20 bucks may be worth it as it will allow you to take your jpg images and generate an animation file as avi or mov. But can save as mp4 as well.
    4) In Bridge you can select all of the images and run image processor on them. This plug in is part of photoshop there fore it will be in the menu's under photoshop. It will let you specify the files size, format and any actions, etc. It will then place them all into a folder that you specify.

  • Watch Photo's on a TV

I guess there are a few ways to take photo's and see them on a TV. some that I have used are:
    1. Import into iMovie, add titles, transitions, music, etc., and then use iDVD.
    2. Bring photo's directly into iDVD
My DVD player says it reads Video CD's so I gather that I can bring photo's into Toast and burn a VCD. Is that right?
I have seen new DVD players that have a "jpeg viewer." Does that mean I can simply drag photo's onto a CD-R and burn them?
I have a lot of old photo's that we want to be able to just scroll through on a TV without all of the effort of using iMovie or iDVD. What are our options?

    Hi Lauren,
many recommend here to let iDVD render stills, because of better quality.... so your method 2) produces maybe better results...
VideoCDs have a much smaller resolution then DVDs (about a quarter); I would recommend to produce SVCD (yepp, S as super), normally, a DVDplayer which is able to handle VCD accepts SVCD too... SVCD is some inbetween in quality between VCD and DVD....
jepg viewer: you need to burn a "ISO 9660 compatible" disk with toast; simply drag your pics onto Toast; BEWARE: just 8digits, no %üß$§" special signs in file names.... (GrafikKonverter has a nice batch tool for renaming files, should be preinstalled on your Mac); I'm not sure about the resolution which are allowed... make a test or ask the manual...
    hope I could help!

  • Toast 7 Question

Does anyone use Toast Titanium 7 (by Roxio)?
Is this the right place for a question on Toast?
I am trying to make a CD that will be able to play slide-shows in DVD players that connect to Televisions.
I tried first with Toast Titanium 6 and then realized that Tiger is not compatable with Toast Titanium 6. So I plucked down the $70 upgrade to "Element 5", downloaded and installed.
I can cut a data CD.
But when I cut a "Super Video CD" with a QuickTime slide-show that I created in iPhoto, it will not play in the DVD player on my TV, nor in the G4 iMac Superdrive.

    Hi, Freddie.
    1. You wrote: "But when I cut a "Super Video CD" with a QuickTime slide-show that I created in iPhoto, it will not play in the DVD player on my TV, nor in the G4 iMac Superdrive."VCD and SVCD (Super VCD) are different formats. SVCDs uses MPEG-2 video compression (encoding). VDCs employ MPEG 1 encoding.
QuickTime supports conventional VCDs: see "Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Playing a Video Compact Disc (VCD)." With Quicktime, MPEG-2 compression is only available with the extra-cost QuickTime MPEG-2 Component.
Your home DVD player may also not support the SCVD format. Check the manual that came with the DVD player for the disk formats it supports. For example, my home DVD player supports VCDs but not SVCDs.
    Try burning a VCD instead.
Note that if you use iDVD to create a DVD of the iPhoto slide show and burn it to DVD-R media, it should play on both Macs running Mac OS X and most home DVD players. See:• "iPhoto 6.0 Help: Exporting a slideshow to iDVD."
    • "iDVD 6.0 Help: Using slideshows created in iPhoto."
    • "iDVD 6.0 Help: Creating an iDVD slideshow."
For information on viewing VCDs and SVCDs under Mac OS X, see my "VCD and SVCD Players" FAQ.
    2. You wrote: "Is this the right place for a question on Toast?"Technically, no. Roxio has their own Discussion Groups for their products.

  • What Software/Techniques Needed to Write Slide Show to DVD?

Created my first slide show of +/- 1,200 slides in PSE 4.0 slideshow. No problem there. I want to burn this slideshow to a DVD that I can use in a laptop or other computer to view the slideshow on other computers with DVD drives, not necessarily to view on a TV. PSE 4.0 Help file says: Select "File"; then "Output Slide Show"; then "Burn to disc"; then "Select DVD Option." I'm ok to step "Burn to disc," but then there is no "Select DVD Option." Only options at this point are to select video format (NTSC or PAL), and Output Speed. "Burn VCD on drive (Phillips DVD+RW-D28)" is pre-printed in the dialog box and cannot be changed. Inserted a DVD+RW in drive, clicked "OK," and this disk was immediately ejected with a pop-up box reading "Incompatible media. Please insert a blank CD-R or a CD-RW disk to burn the VCD". (1,200 slides will not fit on VCD.) One user suggestion to reboot the computer to see a DVD option on screen did not help. My OS System is Windows XP. Two programs installed on my computer with the DVD burner, that I believe are DVD authoring programs: MyDVD v.3.5, and PowerDVD v.4.0. Must I have Photoshop Premiere Elements 2.0, or some additional software (recommendation?) to create a "portable" slideshow to view on other computers?
    Would appreciate any help!

    >Must I have Photoshop Premiere Elements 2.0, or some additional software (recommendation?) to create a "portable" slideshow to view on other computers?
Glad that you added the fact that you want to play the DVD on other computers - it does make a difference. As the prior post indicated, you really do need Premeire Elements or Nero Vision Express or Sonic MyDVD to make the DVD to view on a TV DVD player.
However, there is something else that might work if all people who will watch this slide show have a DVD player on their PC/laptop and play it using Windows Meida Player 10. So I suggest that you try it on your PC.
    - In the slide show Editor of PSE 4, do your Output command to a WMV file on your hard drive.
    - Then use whatever DVD software came with DVD burner to burn this WMV file to a DVD as a data file (NOT as a video DVD). Choose an output resolution that will be good for the monitors of the recipients.
    - Next try to play this DVD on your system using Windows Media Player 10 (I don't know if earlier versions will play). I doubt that the software on your PC that plays commercial DVDs will play the WMV file; that is why I directed you to use Windows Media Player.
If you plan to distribute this to the general public, I think you will have problems with the recipients not having the necessary hardware or not understanding that they can't use their normal DVD player software. However if you are sending to a limited set of relatives and friends, it might work. If anyone has an Apple computer, I think there is software that will play a WMV file on Apple software, but it seems that many people may not have it.
    In closing I will say
    - be sure to save your slide show as a project so you can do multiple experiements (you may have already done this)
    - it would be much more flexible as to how it is played if you did make a video DVD. However, you actually have a choice of using higher resolutions if you only save as a WMV file for play on a computer.

  • Can I merge two slide shows?

I have created about twelve slide shows (Duh! - I thought I had to do one show for each audio track that I wanted).
However when I burned a VCD and viewed on my TV I realized each slide show is a scene that has to be selected and played individually. What I *thought* was going to happen was they would play one after the other automatically. Soooo now I am in the process of putting all my images and audio into one slide show with multiple audio tracks BUT if I open one of my shows and 'select all' then 'copy' then close the source slide show and open my destination slide show and 'paste' all that I get is the first image. It's going to take FOREVER.
Help. Does anyone know a way to essentially take one slide show and paste it to the end of another? I don't just want to reinsert images from the organizer because they don't show my blank slides with text, my added effects, and the re-ordering that I did in the editor.

    Vicki,
I am not aware of putting the shows together the way you want, but what you
could do is perhaps make a large collection so that the images fall in the
order that you want. You can "sew" different audio files together, just have
a look in the FAQ for the instructions on this and then attach it as a
single file to your slide show. Please keep in mind that the larger the show
the more difficult it is to synchronize (if you can at all) with the sound.
Others may have other suggestions btw.
    Cheers
