Burning across multiple discs

For playlists that will not fit on one CD, is there a way of telling how many discs (audio CD) will be required? ITunes just warns that more than one will be needed.
Mike

At the bottom of the iTunes window will be listed the size of your playlist.
ie: 130 songs, 9.3 hours, 585.3 MB
Figure that 1 meg of mp3 = 10 meg of AIFF (Audio CD).

  • Backup across multiple DVD's (Deja Vu and Roxio Toast)

Can anyone suggest software in order to do this? I need to get some information off my internal and external drives to free up some room.
I'm running Deja Vu and they suggest "backing up to Roxio Toast" to do this but I'm not very familiar with this kind of thing and am hoping for a little hand holding.
I guess the deal is that I buy Roxio Toast, install it, select Roxio Toast as my backup volume and it will let me do "manual backups" of this source volume to a set of DVD's whenever I feel like it?
    Thanks.

    {quote}It is $50 and I am hoping to get advice as to whether this is a good investment or not. {quote}
I think it is a pretty good buy. I used the spanning feature several times and can't say I had any problems with it. It can even split a large file across multiple discs. The software has many other features and works so much better than burning discs in the Finder. Toast has been around for a long time and in my opinion it is still the king. My only gripe is that Roxio seems to be doing yearly upgrades and charging an arm and a leg for minimal new features.

  • Error in burning Multiple-Disc Album

    Hi
today i tried to burn an Album with 54 songs. The built-in burning program told me that it has to span the album on multiple disks - wich i confirmed. The burning process began and th program automatically unmarked the titles that wouldn't fit on the first disc. After finishing the first and inserting the second disc the program unchecked only the first titel and added only the first titel of the second disk ???
i tried it three times - same result and then selected the titles manualy - wich worked!
Seems like a bug to me!?
    Anyone?

The iTunes capability to burn a long playlist across multiple audio CDs has always been buggy and unreliable. To save yourself frustration, split the long playlist into individual playlists, each of which fits comfortably into 80 minutes. Then burn.

  • Burning a Video Across Multiple DVDs Easily?

I have a big compilation of old tapes I imported into an iMovie project. I want to burn the clips onto DVDs readable by DVD players (so MPEG-2), but there are >14 hours of pretty uncompressed video there. I could, of course, chop the movie into parts, but then it's hard to judge how big the pieces should be because the file size on the DVD will be much smaller than my current DV files.
Is there a program or a method to easily burn one big movie file across multiple DVDs by chopping it so each DVD is filled?

You need to edit them properly in iMovie into individual movies of max length 90 minutes or so, then burn each one in iDVD.
The idea of using multiple DVDs for a single 14 hour movie won't work.

  • Burning audio over multiple discs - BUT NO TRACK INFO!

This problem has been occurring for so long I can't believe I've waited this long to vent.
I went to burn a playlist to audio CD that would need to span three (3) discs. After the 3rd disc burns, I check discs 1 and 2 and neither have ANY track info. Just Track 1, Track 2, ... This does me no good. The track info only burns for the last disc in sequence. This is a repeatable problem and is so terribly annoying that it makes me wish there was a good viable alternative to iTunes.
Please help if you know any way to prevent this from happening.

Swank, you will have to edit this information in yourself on the secondary computer. This link explains why burned audio CD's don't have track information on another computer.

  • Using Multiple Discs in IPOD for burn...

I tried to burn the abridged Covey 7 habits to disc. Because of it's length, I needed to burn to two discs. However, when it was time to switch discs during record, I could not get the DVD drive to eject the first disc so I could insert the second one. I am not sure what is going on here, but think it must be a glitch in the software. Has anyone else had this problem. Does anyone know a way to fix this??
    thanks

  • One 40GB Project burned on Multiple DVD's? How can i do this

I have a really big file (roughly 3.5 hours of dv footage) and I am trying to figure out how to get the project to burn successfully onto multiple DVD's. iDVD usually just automates this functionality for me so I am a little confused on how to do this.
Im guessing it has something to do with Build and Formatting?
    Thanks.

Ok, first off if you bring DV footage into iDVD or DVD SP it will be compressed to MPEG-2 video (because that is what video DVDs use). The good news is that with DVD SP you can fit 3.5 hours of video onto one Dual Layer disc. The bad news is now all footage has been compressed, so if you want to take that footage and go back and edit there will be a guaranteed, noticeable loss in quality.
If you want to keep your DV footage as DV footage then I recommend buying Toast. It can create Data discs that can be read by Macs or PCs, and it will automatically divide up/segment the data across as many discs as you need. The program to restore all the footage is also automatically burned onto the discs.

  • Newbie question about setting up iTunes to sync across multiple computers

    Hi,
Right now I am using iTunes primarily for listening to streaming radio. However in about 2-3 weeks after I move, I am considering importing all my CDs into iTunes.
So my question is this. What can I do before I start that will make my life easier for syncing my iTunes across multiple computers.
I don't expect the computers to connect to each via internet but I do have a 4 GB flash disk and 230 GB firewire drive that could be used. And since one of the computers is MacBook Pro, I could use it in target mode I think.
    Thanks.

Authorization only applies to computers. When you update a device any protected content on the device for which the library is not authorised will be removed. Otherwise no attempt is made to remove content that was added by a now deauthorised library.
There is a separate scheme permitting up to 10 devices (computers, iPhones, iPad or iPod touches) to be registered for automatic downloads of your purchases with a different mechanism for deregistering devices.
Once you have a file on your computer you can physically copy it to any other computer in the same way that you would copy any other file like a Word document, put it on a disk, email it if not too large, burn it to DVD, stick it on an external hard drive or move it over a network. You can use Get Info. To tell you where it is now and you can drop it into the library at the other end.
The user tip shows how to backup the whole library and then update that backup efficiently. Such a backup to a portable drive also provides a possible tool for transporting any content to another computer.

  • Matching across multiple character sets

Would like to know whether anyone has attempted matching across multiple character sets, for example, between English and Japanese: what are the pitfalls to avoid, what are the best practices, and what you would like to see from application/tools perspective as an ideal solution. thanks

If you upgrade to Logic Pro, you'll get WaveBurner as part of the package which helps you do this, including tweaking your pauses between tracks, fades etc.
If you have Toast, you can do it there too.
If you don't have any 3rd. party software, the work around would be to assemble all your songs in order, end to end in a new Logic file, and listen to all your tracks and adjust the relative levels between songs, then bounce out the individual tracks which have volume changes with their new volume settings. Finally you could then use any burning app such as [SimplyBurns|http://bit.ly/c1oglP] to create CDs or bounce them out in Logic with the additional .mp3 option.
Obviously it's important to listen to your material in order, in context, as some songs will be at the wrong subjective level depending on the tracks either side in the placement. This isn't really important in digital distribution where your material probably won't be listened to as a whole, but as individual downloads.

  • My Slot Drive is giving me trouble. Doesn't burn or read discs that i have/want to work!!

My Slot drive is giving me trouble. It will not burn or read discs that i have/want to work on. It makes a strange noise when i put in a blank cd and spits it back out after 20seconds. It will read third party discs no problem which is very strange indeed. Last week i burned photos to a blank disc and went to make a duplicate and this is when the trouble began. Has anyone ever come across an issue such as this before?? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Well it looks like my media i.e. CDs/DVDs have gone past their sell by date. I purchased new discs to test your theory/bad experience and it looks like i too suffer the same fate!! It's great that this problem i have been having seems to be now rectified although it does lead me to a new issue, as the last two/three years of work saved on these discs are being rejected by my iMac If this is the case then what is the point in purchasing and burning discs for storage over a time that is quite reasonable really(at least 5years)!!!!!

  • Splitting playlist across multiple CDs

    Hi there,
according to the itunes help file, it says that when a playlist is too big to burn onto one CD it splits it across multiple CDs. however whenever it completes part of the playlist and then asks for a blank CD, it begins to burn exactly the same thing that it did on the previous one without going onto the remaining songs. is there something that i've set incorrectly?
    thanks

Don't trust that feature. Split your big list into separate playlists, making sure that each one is under 80 minutes playing time. Then burn them individually. (I assume it is audio CDs that you are burning.)

  • DVD drive not burning double layer discs

I was burning a double layer DVD this morning, using Verbatim media, which I've never had any problems with. The drive I was using was a Pioneer DVR-A18M. All of a sudden, after I successfully burned one disc and inserted another DL disc, it refused to burn anymore. I forget the exact error message, but it was something along the lines of the media wasn't recognized, and this persisted for multiple discs that I tried.
Now, yesterday, a friend let me borrow a movie that had a crack in it and the disc came apart in my internal Pioneer drive - but it still worked after that. Odd thing was that the drive would still read and play movies, music, etc but it wouldn't burn anything, tho I don't know if it would burn things other than DL media because I didn't try.
Anyways, while the Pioneer drive - which I just bought after New Years - had been working well, I decided to replace it due to the fact that it wouldn't burn DL discs and a few other minor issues I'd been having with it. The one main issue was that if I left a disc in the drive for too long, I wouldn't be able to eject it or load any new applications. I'd have to reboot the computer to get the disc out, something I never had to do with the only Sony drive that came with my G5.
So, I replaced it with an LG GH22. Upon trying it out, it burned a single layer DVD-R, but will not burn a DL disc. The error message this new drive gives me is, from with Toast:
    Sense Key = Illegal Request
    Sense Code = 0x24
    Invalid Field in CDB
If it would help, I could put the Pioneer drive back in and see exactly what that error message was.
Oh, one last thing. I'd like to replace the E-IDE cable I have, as disc media is never able to reach its full burning speed potential. I'm guessing it's due to the old IDE cable, as my G5 is from 2005?
    Thanks!

Ok, I tried using Dragon Burn instead of Toast and it worked fine and the DL disc plays. I have to run out to MCAT class but when I get home, I'll mess around with it some more and try using Toast again, the old drive, etc.

  • Unable to burn on multiple CDs

I bought an album at the iTunes store and wish to burn it on CD - I click BURN, it checks the playlist, tells me I need multiple audio CDs , I click Audio CDs, and iTunes returns to the previous mode. Never even attempts to start to burn.
    running iTunes 8.02
this is the first time I've tried to burn this album
getting frustrated, any suggestions gratefully received

Although iTunes nominally has the capability to burn a long playlist across multiple CDs, the reality is that that feature has never worked reliably. Split your album into individual playlists, each with less than 80 minutes of music, and burn them one at a time.

  • Burn AudioBook to Disc

I have bought an AudioBook from the iTunes store and i want to burn it to disc.
I have iTunes 12.xxx and when i select Burn Playlist  i get an error message indicating that i cannot burn the Audio file as it is too long to put onto i cd, i do not get any other option to proceed using multiple disks.
    Is this correct?
How to i listen to my AudioBook if i am not near my computer or can't play through IOS device for example in my Car
    Thx
    John

OK, No response from anyone so i must assume that what i am trying to do is impossible.
I have beena   Apple customer for over 25 + years and i now feel  ripped of i know the limits of the DRM for music and like an idiot i thought the DRM for Books would be similar allowing you to have the ability to copy copies for your own use.
So thanks again Apple for conning me into spending my money on something i cannot get the full value out of.
