Burning Audiobooks to CD to play in car

I upgraded from QuickTime7 to QuicktimePro and with the free download from quickTime 6.5 to 7.0 the download included iTunes. And before this I always purchased my audiobooks from Walmart.
With that said I will go on to my question.
When trying to burn the book to a disc to listen to in the car, is there anyway the book can be converted to a format my car cd player will support? You know, like a .wav file or something.:-) I am trying to be cute but the truth is when it comes to burning or dealing with music in anyway I am simply put Lost in Space.
I know the computer very well just had no reason to deal with any audio or video files ever before. Therefore I cannot troubleshoot since I don't know anything about the file formats. I do know about hardware supporting file formats so I probaly will be able to follow anything of help.
It's a 15.35 Hr. book so I would rather ask someones help than try a go at it myself. I am a woman who knows her limitations. Thanks to any kind person.

No problem that I am the only one with 0 answers. If I could take the question off I would rather seem like an idiot

  • Burned cd's won't play in car or home, using sony cd-r or memorex cd-r 52x

The cd's i burn with itunes on my G5 10.5.8, and my macbook 10.6.8 will not play on my home stero or in my car.
I have tried two types of CD's.  Does anyone know what the problem is?  the disks burned on my much older laptop were fine.
    Thanks, Bonnie

Hi, That's what I tried at first and the burning part wasn't there.  However I figured it out.
The very first window that shows up after putting the CD in is a drop down window that I didn't know about.
So... choose "open in itunes"-then make a playlist, and burn!  It worked in both my player and the car!!!!
I've used a hugh stack of CD's trying different things...  but at last I think I got it.  It looks different on
    my newer computers.
Thanks so much for answering my questions.

  • ITunes LP purchased and unable to burn onto a CD to play in my car?!?

iTunes LP purchased and unable to burn onto a CD to play in my car. I have searched and read every question in the Apple Support Communities and so far no answer has been given. Please help!

If the steps in the Apple article didn't solve the problem, some people have found the advice in this post works for them. I Think you can start at step 5 then 9.

-macintosh hd burner that i down loaded for free onto computer
-CD-RW sony disks 700mb 1x 2x 4x speed (that could be the problem?)

-cd ejects in my car after 3 seconds
    -sony cd/dvd player; unreadable
-i changed preferences to burn music cd at max speed; still won't play in car
    HELP!
(this year I burned a cd on a friends mac note book;black; he never did it, and we changed no preferences, and i had no clue what i was doing; burned cd, not knowing what i was doing; and it worked, and the cd still plays great; that was months ago.)

back to walmart I go. I did burn on a other kind, but it won't read in the car, but I didn't make sure the preference said music cd. now it does. why doesn't this have to be so complicated?
maybe it's the burner that I down loaded: it says macintosh hd. Maybe it only burns to a higher hd quality and won't play in the car? I don't know
expensive; waste of money, but I can't rewwrite over these; i don't know how to do that?
    thank you

  • Burned CD Will Not Play in Car

I burned a cd in iTunes and it will play on my home cd but not in the car. I've burned other cds on my old computer using Toast, also CD-R, and they play in the car just fine. My Preferences are set at audio cd, I double checked and ended up burning a second cd which also won't play in my car, just to make sure I'd done it right the first time. What the heck is going on?

In my experience car CD-players are more picky than home CD-players, when it comes to a certain combination of burner and CD-R brand.
My over 10 year old home CD-player plays every CD I burned, but my car CD-player rejects some brands.
From your first post I understand that burning CDs on your 'old' computer didn't give problems.
Maybe trying another well known brand (Sony or TDK) will solve the problem burning CDs with your 'new' computer.
Don't use cheap 'white-label' CD-Rs. They lead often to disappointment, when burning an audio CD.
Also don't use CD-RW and CD-Rs especially designated for music. The latter do cost more and often don't play on car CD-players.
The above is from my own experience and doesn't have to be a general experience.

  • Burned disk will not play on car cd player

A cd-rw disk, burned on my compaq presario as a simple cd audio disk, works on the computer and on some home systems i've tried, but will not work in the car cd player ( tried more than one car cd player )... what's the problem?
thanks in advance for the help .

Burned CDs that won't play in my '97 Chrysler WILL play in my '02 Toyota. I agree with the response regarding the specs of the players being used.

  • CDs burned in iTunes no longer working in car?

I've been burning data CDs (with music) for years to listen to in my car that can read data CDs. Back in April, I burnt a CD (CD-R data with mp3s) that has worked fine in my car. Yesterday, I made a new playlist and tried burning CDs six different times -- all from the same stack of CDs that I used back in April -- and none of them work. I even tried regular audio CDs, instead of data, and those aren't working either. It isn't my car stereo because it'll still play all the other CDs I've created, so I can only guess that something has happened with iTunes updates. When the disc is in my computer, it is recognizing the songs, but not when it goes elsewhere. Any thoughts on this?

Hi MacinNW_Brent - thanks for the quick response! When I got home from work today, I tried to do some more troubleshooting. Really, it scared me that my drive going out is a possibility.
But this is what makes me think that's not the problem (not that I know, but humor me): When the disc is done burning, I can eject it, and put it back in the computer, and it works. So, I took the CD and put it in my DVD player (I don't have another CD player in the house), and it worked. It was an MP3 CD.
That made me think there's something wrong on my car's end. So I went to the car and took the CD out that it was currently playing -- the one I burnt the exact same way and from the exact same set of discs -- and put in the new one, and it still isn't working. So I tried every other CD in my car, and they all play fine - ones that I burnt years ago -- still work. Which makes me feel like it's not my car.
But the newest batch still isn't working. There's something with these new ones getting burnt that isn't playing right with my car. Is it possible that there's some sort of new update in iTunes that is causing me issues? I would totally blame my car if it was having trouble with ANY other kinds of CDs, but it's just this recent batch. Ones I burnt the same way just months ago still work fine. I'd blame my computer if I wasn't able to play it in the DVD player.
So the way I'm burning them hasn't changed.
The car will play CDs I've burnt this way previously.
My computer and DVD player can play them.
But this last batch isn't working right.
I'm kind of at a loss. It seems odd that this handful of discs would be bad (yet they still work in macbook/dvd player?), but buying a new batch is the only thing I can really think of. Even though I've been working through this stack for quite some time and ones from this stack are ones that I've burnt previously that are working. But I guess the bottom half could be messed up somehow.

  • G5 cd's won't play in car

I can burn audio files fine in itunes (or any other app) on my g4 (less than 1 ghz processor)..but when I try to burn audio cd's on my g5 (using memorex printable cd-r media) it will play fine on my mac but not in the car (unless I skip over the first track while playing, and start from track 2)....any help please...I think it might just be the disk (memorex printable cd-r 32x) I

Using my new G5 I have the same problem, which I did not know using my old G4 with an external LaCie burner. The CD-Changer in my car is not able to read audio-cds, also my cd-player in my home hifi-system. The only way to play these audio-cds is (strange...) to put them directly in the main tuner of my car (usually used for the navigation cd), not using the Changer.
Maybe the problem really depends on the quality of the CD-Rs. I have used CD-Rs from Sony (it´s a brand, I think?) and will try Verbatim.

  • Burn dvd with Lion that plays on dvd player

I just got new imac version 10.7.3 LION...2.5GHz intel corei5, 4GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Desktop.  It has no iDVD.  I cannot use my old applic. install Disc that had iDVD ( iLife08)  because when inserted, it says I can't open it because Power PC apps are no longer supported.  NOW, an Apple Care tech. did not tell me that when Ijust talked to him.  There is no way to get iDVD then for my new computer.
MY PROBLEM:  I want to burn a dvd that will play in a DVD player.  I created it from my dig. camera using iMovie.    I tried to burn it to a DVD/RW but when inserted into two different DVD players, nothing. I then read I needed a DVD-R, and got that, but read that will not work on this computer either.  I read of something called BURN which is some free software that does simple dvd's, but am afraid to download that and end up running in circles.  I sure do not want to purchase some software for a rare occasion when I want to burn a DVD for a friend to play in his tv/dvd player.
Apple care was no help whatsoever.......that may have been a waste of money.
Soooooo, how please can I get my video from iMovie burned to a dvd that will be playable on a simple dvd player?????   I still have my old computer in a closet.  It seems absurd to think I must drag it out, hook it up and use that when I spent all this money for a new computer so I'd be in some cloud....I appreciate any help.  Thanks ahead of time.

You can still buy the retail iLife 11 from a number of online vendors. It will include the latest version of iDVD.
A week ago it was available for about $40. Not any more. Get it while it's still fairly affordable.

  • ITunesBurnt CD will not play on car CD

I download iTune. Burn to CD and it burns as a iTune which will not play on car CD or any other cd machine. Can anyone help?

I don't understand what you did. Did you burn songs to a CD, which should work, or just downloaded iTunes, the program, and burned to a CD. If it is downloaded, it will be good in case you lose the installed program, and for nothing else.
I assume that you installed iTunes. Please, explain a bit better what you did.

  • Burning audiobook on CD

I purchased audiobook from Itunes and tryed to burn it so I can listen in car. It takes 7 CDs to burn entire book. The first time I tryed, it only burned first CD, the second time it burned the first two CDs, the next time it only let me burn four CDs then told me I was only authorized to burn 7. I now have 3 CDs of part one, 2 CDs of part two, 1 each of three and four, and none of part 5 and maybe 6(if there is a six). Is ther any way I can burn just the last parts?

This is how I do it with Audiobooks purchased from Audible.com.
With the audiobook in the playlist, right-click the title and select *Get Info*
Select Options tab and check *Start Time*. Allow 80 min for each disc you have already burned and enter start time and then END as stop time. (Disc 2 start @ 80:00, disc three at 160:00, disc four at 240:00, etc.)
I've never purchased audio books from itunes, but hope this works for you too.

  • Copying/burning a dvd, won't play in a dvd player

Before my disk drive was replaced I could take a dvd, copy it and burn it to a disc (i.e., make a copy for myself), ad it would pla in my dvd player
Since then when I make a copy of something and burn it, it won;t play in ant DVD player. Will play onthe computer though
What settings do I need to change?

Musicwind is right, there's no way to do what you describe without third-party tools. A commercial DVD, like what you'd be using in a DVD player, cannot be copied using the Finder or Disk Utility, due to copy protection issues. Are you using something like Handbrake to rip the DVD, or is this not a commercial DVD that you're copying?
