Burning .avi with no audio

I am attempting to burn a dvd of .avi movie files using idvd. Quicktime will not play the audio, but the VCL player will. What is the best way to burn this and keep the sound so it will play on a dvd player?

I was having the same problem (video but no audio) trying to burn some .avi files to DVD, using Toast.
I read somewhere on this site (can't remember where) that it might help to add the A52Codec to the /Library/Quicktime folder of my home directory. I simply added the file, and presto, have had sound on every .avi file I've burned.
I have no idea how it works, but it did the trick for me. Maybe worth a try for you, too.
Here's the site I downloaded it from:
http://trac.cod3r.com/a52codec/
Good luck.

  • How do I import AVI video with stereo audio (and keep it that way)?

Today I just discovered that all the AVI video with stereo audio I've ever imported into a Premiere Pro CS6 project has been mysteriously converted to mono. And I can't find any import setting anywhere that enable me to change this.
    Here's the deal...
I've have an AVI file with stereo audio (the file is actually a stereo sound test that I downloaded to prove that I wasn't imagining things). On my hard drive, I right-click and view the properties:
    Video
    Length: 00:00:36
    Frame width: 320
    Frame height: 240
    Frame rate: 25 frames/second
    Audio
    Bit rate: 128kbps
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Audio sample rate: 44 kHz
I click on it to play and listen with headphones--everything is playing in the correct part of the stereo spectrum. Then, I import it to Premiere, click the file name in the left content menu, and check the properties, suddenly they read:
    Type: AVI Movie
    File Size: 1.1 MB
    Image Size: 320 x 240
    Frame Rate: 25.00
Source Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 16 bit - Mono
Project Audio Format: 11025 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Mono
    Total Duration: 00:00:36:15
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: 1.0
Sure enough, I drag it into the sequence, listen to it, and it's indeed playing mono. Outside of Premiere, the original source file still reads and plays correctly with stereo sound.
When I import stereo WAVs and MP3s, it keeps the original stereo channels without me having to do anything special. I even just imported the same exact file as a MOV with stereo audio, and it showed up in Premiere as:
Source Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 16 bit - Stereo
Project Audio Format: 44100 Hz - 32 bit floating point - Stereo
What is going on here with AVIs? Am I doing something wrong? Are there settings I'm missing somewhere?
(And before anyone suggests I only use MOV in the future... that's not exactly the answer I'm looking for.)

    Thank you for that info.
For video, the codec is MPEG-4 Video (XVID) and for audio it says MPEG Audio Layer 1/2/3 (mpga).
There are two issues with that file:
The first is the Xvid CODEC (not meant for editing), and then the MPEG Audio/MPGA. I would convert that file, to something that is more editable.
    Good luck,

  • Trying to get my fcp project to burn to dvd at the highest quality? Ive used compressor and then tried to put it in dvdsp put its not working. I am having problems with the audio or when i burn it , i cant play the dvd? any help would be appreciated

I suspect you are attempting to burn an HD DVD, which will not play on a DVD player...
But if you provide more details such as the settings you are applying in Compressor, then we would be able to provide you more accurate information.
How are you adding the files to Compressor?
In FCP, what are your footage properties (command-9) and sequence settings (command-0)

  • When burning iso with disk utility, the audio is off!

I have an ISO file that works fine when I mount it or watch it on VLC.   If I burn it using windows (in parallels) it is fine...
But when I burn it with disk utility, the audio is off by a second or so.  I can't figure this out since it is a disk image.  there shouldn't be a way to dissociate the audio.  I did have a previous version of the iso file that was off..  Is it possible that I am trying to burn an iso file and it is burning a mounted version from before (even though I am choosing this from the finder?)
    Any thoughts or suggestions?
I though macs just work.  Seems a bit more complicated.

I don't recall for sure about "disk utility" and DVD and/or Bluray. It seems to me that Toast is usually used.

  • How to burn a DVD with two audio track?

There is a projet with the original video and a second audio track with music. I want to burn a DVD with both audio tracks. When playing the DVD you should be able to select audio track 1 (the original sound) or audio track 2 (the music). With Adobe Encore DVD it was easy to configure the two audio tracks and burn the DVD. It is posible to do the same from Adobe Premier Elements 11?
    Thanks,
    Jordi

    Welcome to the forum.
Unfortunately, PrE does not allow for supplemental Audio Tracks, when authoring.
I use Adobe Encore for this, but it is only available bundled with Premiere Pro. I do not know if some other, third party, full-featured authoring apps., like Sony's DVD Architect can do that, but I would suspect that they can. The specifications for DVD Architect should have that information, and as it's quite common in full-featured authoring apps., I anticipate that it has that capability.
If you do go with that program, our MOD, Steve Grisetti, has written a very good book on DVD Architect, and it's available at Muvipix.com.

  • .avi files and audio codecs with Quicktime and other software

Apple Mac OSX 10.5.8, Samsung LED TV, Video Camera saving movie files as .avi, audio codec unknown (G-Spot codec is not supported on the mac so I can’t check)
As a well retired non-computer savvy person I am very confused when it comes to talk about different video/audio codecs. I have read so many articles my head is now spinning with information I truly cannot understand.
Using the above hardware, when I play an .avi file direct from my camera onto my new TV I get a perfect picture but the TV tells me “the audio codec is not supported”.
I have tried, using Quicktime Pro and others such as AVCWare Mac Video Converter and Divx converter, to convert the .avi file with unknown audio codec to an .avi using mp3 codec. This is successful but the camera will not play the file and when downloaded onto a flash stick the TV now tells me “not supported file format”. The TV gives me a Divx registration and deactivation code but I am not sure whether this refers to the TV or the flash stick!
To keep things short, all I want to do is edit/crop .avi files from the camera, save with a readable audio codec, put the files into the TV using a burnt DVD or play direct using a flash stick. The TV supports among other video formats Avi, MKV, ASF, MP4, 3GPP and audio being mainly MP3, AC3, LPCM, ADPCM
    Hope someone can help please.
    Many thanks Robin Welch

    Hi George,
Thank you very much for your last post. One small piece of information from you regarding frame size was the final part to my jigsaw. I recently purchased a new digital camcorder and LED TV and getting them to talk to each other has taken me since December! Having installed MediaInfo as you suggested, I found the camera saved the .avi files with AAC LC audio codec (first piece of the jigsaw). Talking to the people at DivX about the problem brought up the fact that both my TV and Sony Home Theatre should be registered to play DivX files, this I did (second piece). Having reinstalled Perian and opening my .avi files in Quicktime player I tried saving the files as DivX to several profile options including Home Theatre with max 720 pixels (last piece). At last it works fine. Thank you for your help, I am very grateful.
    Robin

  • Can Premiere Pro CC handle AVI files with multiple audio streams?

I have an AVI file with two audio streams and I am wondering if there's any way to access the second stream in PP? So far I can only get the first stream to play. I know I can extract the second stream in for instance VirtualDub, but it would be nice to not have to do that in the interest of an effective workflow.

Hello again Jim! Thank you for your reply, you seem to be working hard here on the forums! The info I have found from 2011 suggested that it wasn't possible then, but I was hoping maybe they added this feature.

  • Burning .avi file - volume stops?

I am using iDVD 08 to burn a large .avi file with .mp3 sound. The file plays perfectly in Quicktime on my Mac, but when I burn it with iDVD (Professional Quality) it plays fine for about 5 minutes but after that the audio stops for some reason. I still get the video playing but the audio gives out, is this some bug in iDVD or is something else wrong?
    Thanks!

Try the following basic trouble shooting steps that are mentioned on many posts.
    Save as a disk image
Burn disk image using Disk Utility at a slower speed (2x or 4x)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93006
    Use DVD-R (not +/-RW or +R)
    Use Maxcell or Verbatim disks
    Hope that helps

  • Can any one help me with CD/Audio disc playback problem on media center m8200n running Windows Vista

I have HP Media Center m8200n Dest top running WINDOWS VISTA HOME PREMIUM 32 BIT edition. It  has MEDIA CENTER and MEDIA PLAYER. I experience problems with the computer being able to play CD music discs.  What happens is that the Disc will play only for 63 seconds exactly and then stop playing the track, the player will then skip tracks, settle on another one, play it for a few moments and then skip to the end and then play nothing. It gives me an error message that it cannot read the disc.  This happens with any and every standard store bought CD new or used. These CDs also do play on my laptop running basically same operating system.  This happens whether I trying to Play a disc or burn the disc to the hard drive.  The drives work great though as they do play DATA discs all the way through. MP3 discs play fine.  It also plays the DVD movies with no problem. Windows media player doesn't make it work, also installed VLC player and REALPLAYER to try some other players and they also don't work for music, only DVDs. They all only produce 63 seconds of music play back  from a disc. I've already tried Changing ENHANCEMENTS, UPDATING DRIVERS, UNINSTALLING THE DISC DRIVE and then re-installing back into WINDOWS but none of that helped. SYSTEM came with the integrated REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO on the mother boad for multi channel playback options and I've downloaded those updated drivers again but that doesn't do anything.  Thinking it might be a hardware drive problem I purchased a new LG BLU-RAY DRIVE/BURNER super multi drive which plays fantastic for any video format from Blu-Ray to regular DVD format with the Power DVD software but the machine is causing even this new drive to have the same problem with the audio and it cuts out playing the audio disc within the same 63 seconds running audio disc. . There seems to be a software glitch and I'm wondering if you can help.  Also the sound card seems to work perfectly fine. I downloaded I-Tunes and copied over audio files to the computer via my flash drive and when I play those files from the hard drive, or even the sample windows media files which reside on the hard drive in MY MUSIC, all files play through perfectly, fully, and with great sound. Audio out jacks in back of computer work fine as also does the front head phone jacks upfront. Something in the software when playing a audio disc/file through the dic drives???? I've got hundreds of CD and it's a bummer not beng able to lay them through the system. Does anyone think moving from VISTA PREMIUM to a upgraded version like ULTIMATE or even going up to Windows 7 might solve problem??? What about the 32 bit verses 64 bit editions??? My system should be able to run in the 64 bit frame work also. THANK YOU in advance!!!

    Hi,
All dimms work individually?  Did you run a bootable memory diagnostic to determine the reliability? Did you run a diagnostic on the hard drive?  I believe that your PC came with PC Doctor and that you can create a bootable diagnostic disk. Did you create that disk?  Be sure to purchase memory dimms from a manufacturer that will stand behind their product with a guarantee such as Crucial, Corsair or Kingston. Buy directly from the manufacturer and they will stand behind the guarantee. Be sure that all of the dimms are identical. Use CPU-Z to determine that the specifications are indeed identical.
You have some options to consider once you can stablize your PC for updating the BIOS.
Locate a hard drive and use the HP external recovery media to build a VISTA system. -- safest method
Use a VISTA repair disk and at the command prompt try executing the HP BIOS update (Admin). -- safe
Try a bootable BIOS update process as suggested at this site. --  less safe but doable

Same problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now.

  • Playlists don't work with separate audio clips

I have a timeline with 8 different clips and chapter playlists set up to play each clip individually and to play them in pairs.  This works fine.
But when I add audio to the timeline it goes wrong. I have 8 different audio clips that match up with the video clips.  If I view the timeline itself, everything is OK.  If I view the first clip's playlist (with the first audio clip) it also works OK.  But if I view any of the other playlists, the DVD (and previewer) return me back to the menu as soon as the audio track starts (this is the end action). If I delete any of the audio tracks, the playlists for those videos work fine again.
I also see similar behaviour on another timeline where a second audio clip starts midway: the chapter immediately before the new audio track is skipped in a playlist and the DVD plays the subsequent chapter (there are many chapters on that timeline).
The only solution I've come up with is to burn a DVD with no audio, rip the video, line up the audio tracks I want to use with the video, export them all in one big file and then add that single clip into Encore.  It's not really something I want to do, to be honest.
Is there any explanation for this strange behaviour, or is it another bug?
Thanks for any help or pointers towards sorting this out.

I'm with Neil on the 8 separate Timelines. There are pitfalls to grouping multiple Clips onto one Timeline, and even an Audio Unit's difference in Duration can cause issues.
If you do go with the discrete Timelines workflow, you'll just do Playlists, and not Chapter Playlists instead.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • G4 and burning .avi to DVD No Can Do HELP Before Christmas

I even made a seperate Account for burning the .avi to DVD thinking that it was using a lot of Ram and Processor and if anything came up example: Software Update, System Optimizer, any tool my Mac would give me a kernal panic and I would let my Mac run overnight so no one would try to use the Mac,
my main question is what can I do or is there anything that I can I do so I can burn .avi's to DVD using my system?

    Hi
iDVD will not work with PC-based .avi media; you would need to convert it to dv I(f that is possible) in order for iDVD to work with it.
You may want to post in the iDVD forum; I could not begin to tell you whether or what you would need to convert it, or if indeed to is possible without substantial loss of quality.
If you can open the file in iMovie, you may be able to export it to iDVD.
If you friend does exactly this, I would suggest you ask him/her the precise software/procedure being used.
"..there is also an application AVI->QuickTime that can convert AVI files to QuickTime .MooV files on the Macintosh. .." I found this HERE, doing a quick google for ".avi format"

  • Video is not sync with its audio and imported material is degraded

    I'm new to Adobe Premiere.
Problem #1: Whenever i import videos (the one i captured using windows movie maker), and i play it in the program view, the video is degraded. [I've set the program view to high].
Problem #2: The other videos I import is not in sync with its audio, the audio is super fast (sounded like chipmunks) but the video speed is normal.
The files I imported are AVI.
    I have a 1.73 Ghz processor, 20% free diskpace, i have a 1.5GB RAM, i use a laptop so i have a Mobile Intel Graphics.
What seems to be the problem? I really need help.

    1. Don't capture with WMM or convert the captured files to DV AVI type2.
    2. What codecs are used? AVI is not a codec, just a wrapper.
20% free diskspace on a laptop with limited memory and a meager CPU is asking for trouble. Invest in a good editing machine.
