Burning bluray disks on Macbook Pro 17"

I have a 1080p camcorder and I wanted to burn my movies on a bluray disc so I was just wondering is there any way to play and burn bluray discs on a mac book pro 17". I tried to find some external drives and I found this two external drives:
http://fastmac.com/blurayext
http://store.fastmac.com/productinfo.php?cPath=10_2_52&productsid=415
so I does any one know, will they work with my mid 2010 Mac book pro 17", I have both windows and Mac OS X installed on it...

Toast can be used to burn blueray disks. http://eshop.macsales.com/articles/howto-burn-bluray-toast
This external blueray burner works on mac with toast. http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MRF8BDSD12X/
fastmac should be able to tell you if their burner works with toast.
If your goal is just to play your home movies on your HD TV; I would suggest getting an apple tv instead.

  • I am trying to copy a burned cd to my macbook pro, but i can not

I am trying to copy a burned cd to my macbook pro so that i can burn my on cd. Does anyone have any advice.

You can use Disk Utility as a way to create an image of the disc to then save to your mac so you can insert another disc into the drive and burn that image to the disc.  There are many ways to do this but this site has a pretty good description on how to do this.  This is a pretty straight forward way that I use constantly to copy discs.

  • I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

    Hello all,
I'm unable to burn DVDs on my MacBook Pro 2.16 GHz, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM running 10.4.8. When I go to burn a DVD I get one of two codes 0X8002006D, 0X80020022, why is that a 3,000 CPU cant burn a DVD. My Mac is total up to date with all software and firmware. I saw in the Discussions that I'm not the first person to have this issue but I don't see an answer from Apple, I'm pretty sure it not the DVDs (Memorex DVD-R 16X) because my ****** pc can burn them and it was a 100 pack that I used about 50 from it that I burn on both Macs and the ****** PC. I also have a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 with 2.5 GB DDR SDRAM running 10.4.8 which is also unable to burn them and it also comes up with the same errors. I have not had this issue until I updated my Macs to 10.4.8, PLEASE HELP.
    Thanks,
    Coons

Yes I can play CDs and DVDs but I was not able to burn a 4.01GB folder, I have since decreased the folder size to 3.75 and was able to burn the DVD. I'm creating another just to double check, my G5 was unable to complete the task and I also gave a shot at a 2.77GB folder and it failed I also gave a 200Mb file a chance but it still did not burn. I was able to burn the same 200MB file on a CD, PLEASE I NEED HELP.

  • How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro

How do I share a hard drive with the new iMac to load a disk from macbook pro. I want to install office for Mac from a disk but dont know how to share har drive from macpro
    thanks

The new iMac's don' t have DVD drives however almost all have a disk drive. The easiest method of installing MS Office for Mac on your new iMac is to download it from Microsoft and then input the code you received when you purchased your original license. Otherwise you can use the DVD drive on your MBP to install on your iMac, that feature is called Remote Disc. Instructions for Remote Disc can be found at:http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5287

Try holding down the trackpad button while starting up the PowerBook.  Holding down mouse button during start up ejects the disc in the optical drive, so I'm guessing it would work the same with the button the the trackpad.

  • How do I burn a cd on macbook pro to play on cd player?

How do I burn a cd on macbook pro to play on cd player? Spotlight has never heard of such a thing.

I already have them in itunes and have dragged them onto a burn folder and burned the cd. But if I put the cd in a cd player I only hear a loud buzz. I have done this before but have forgotten where to find the directions -- there used to be a link you could click to burn for a cd player.

  • Can we play bluray disc on macbook pro 2011?

i am keen to know that can we play bluray movies on macbook pro??

    No.
    Different format...  http://www.blu-ray.com/info/
"While current optical disc technologies such as DVD, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD-RAM rely on a red laser to read and write data, the new format uses a blue-violet laser instead, hence the name Blu-ray."

  • Burn DVD-9 on Macbook Pro?

I have the last model of Macbook Pro (2.6 GHz Intel Core Duo) before the current unibody design, with the MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-875 drive. The DVDSP manual seems to say that I can burn DVD-9 discs with my system. Can anyone confirm this?
And if yes, can anyone recommend a reasonably priced supplier for this type of disc?

Go to System Profiler>System Hardware>Disk Burning.
    Look in DVD -Write
    If you see this - DVD-Write: -R, -R DL, -RW, +R, +R DL, +RW
Your drive supports double layer burning.
Been using Verbatim DVD+R DL inkjet printable disks for a while with no issues. I think I got them through tapeonline.com. They also stock Taiyo Yuden DVDs for a reasonable price.

Which program can i use to burn cd and dvd on my macbook pro? does toast universal?
macbook pro 2.16 2 giga ram   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Roxio Toast Titanium would be the simplest and most versatile application you could use. It is highly recommended and is also available as a Universal Binary.
Additionally you can use Disk Utility to write to CDs and DVDs.

  • Install Disk on Macbook pro

My macbook pro (running leopard) recently "locked up" and would not move past the log-in screen. I walked through many steps offered on the apple support pages, ultimately getting to the point where it was suggested I re-install using the original DVDs
I am trying that right now, but the Discs and progress have now also locked up and are not progressing.
    Any ideas appreciated

    a) Check that your ram was inserted properly. Loose ram costs lives
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303491
    b) Insert your install DVD and restart the computer - hold down the D key as it starts up and run the Apple Hardware Test (I think it's D - it says which key on the disk) and see if
    i) The test completes
ii) If there are any errors.
If the error mentions memory or ram, see if the machine will start without the offending chip.

  • Here's a cure for 'clunking' Hard Disks on MacBook Pro's..

I've had this problem with a 'clunking' (i.e. marble dropping onto a granite floor sound) coming from the hard disk area of my year old MacBook pro Core2Duo with a 120Gb Fujistu Drive. On my MBP it happened every 20 secs or so and was really annoying, in a quiet room you could here it and I was worried about the reduced lifespan on the drive. Many users have complained about this, not just MBP users but also on the Mac Mini, which I understand uses Seagate drives
There's lot of discussion on this; replacing the drive (if under Apple Warranty that is), running a utility that keeps the heads unparked by constantly writing data to the drive, or some users are told just to live with it because its normal. WRONG, HERE'S THE ANSWER THAT WORKED FOR ME!
*I downloaded a copy of the brilliant (and free!) utility: Onyx (my version 1.8.3) from www.titanium.free.fr*
It's a general 'housekeeping' MAC OS X program and I got it to do a full Permission Check; Optimize the system; clear cache on Safari, spotlight, font and kernel. Basically I set it to clear/reset everything on the download cache and temporary settings and reset the Spotlight Index also.
Since I've done this I'VE HAD NO NOISE (CLUNKS) FROM THE DRIVE.
So I guess it must have been some indexing routine that was causing the drive to go mad
    Hope it works for you:
    *Nick B, UK*

okay, good point. I'm running Tiger still..
I seen that. I believe Cocktail and Tinker Tool have been updated and should work the same.

  • How to make boot disk for MacBook Pro with Mavericks pre-installed

    Hi -
I recently bought a new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, which came pre-installed with Mavericks (10.9.0).  I want to make a bootable USB disk of the system software, and have successfly used DiskMaker X (formerly Lion DiskMaker) to make the USB boot disks for Lion and Mountain Lion.  In those cases, however, I was running earlier versions of the OSX, and downloaded the new OSX version -- Lion and Mountain Lion -- from the App Store in order to make to make the disk.  In this case, however, Mavericks was pre-installed, and I was unable to download it from the App Store (an alert said that it couldn't be installed on this computer... presumably because it was already installed).  I would apprecite any suggestions as to how I can create the boot disk without the ability to download Mavericks.  Thanks very much for any help anyone can provide.
    Shelly

Open App Store and locate the full installer download file (5.29 GBs) for 10.9.1. Download to your computer.
Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
        2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
        3. Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
    sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

  • How do I install iWork disk on MacBook Pro with Retina Display?

I have recently purchased a MacBook Pro with Retina Display and would like to install iWork on it. I do not have the device needed to use disks on this laptop as it doesn't have an optical drive. Is there any way I could download some sort of software and use a key to identify my disk? Or something along those lines because I'm sure apple would have thought that this problem would occur.
    Thanks

That's why Apple no longer sells disks. All its software is now available on the App Store. So you can either purchase/download the iWork components from there, or, if you have access to another Mac with an optical drive, share the DVD from that across the network (System Preferences - Sharing - turn CD/DVD sharing on) and install that way.
