Burning cds for system 7

im using a emac with osx for my main computer but have also been given an older powermac 6100/66dos compatible. i have downloaded software on the emac for the the old powermac and need to trandsfer it form one to the other on a cd as the powermac is not internet ready
so far ive used the finder in osx and toast to burn it but the powermac cant read the CD
any ideas on what i should try? thanks

Leopool,
Some have found that using CD-RW disks makes them hard for older computers to read. I use CD-R disks for most transfers.
There is a great site with a wealth of information on the care, feeding, and upgrading of the 61XX series. Anyone with a 6100 needs this site bookmarked. It's here:
PowerMac 6100 Upgrade Guide
When I found the site, I discovered that the 6100 can hold and use more RAM than the "official" 72MB maximum. My 6100/60 now has 136MB RAM aboard, along with a 4.3GB hard drive.

  • The latest version of itunes (8.0) will not burn cds for me

Ive been able to burn a few but the majority of the time Im just wasting cds. I click burn disc, insert blank disc, the mac then checks playlist. Then it says its writing playlist, but nothing happens. It sounds like the mac is working on it and when I cancel the burn it takes FOREVER for it to spit the cd back out. Can I just download the last version I had somehow? Im not liking this one.

    Hello,
It's important to keep your system software up to date. You indicated you are running 10.4.7. You need to be on 10.4.11. Go to System Preferences/Software Update and follow the instructions.
After your updates are finished, close Software Update from the Menu Bar, File/Quit. Next, run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions. Disk Utility is in your Applications/Utilities folder. Launch DU, select MactinoshHD 10.4.x in the panel on the left, then select the FirstAid tab, then click:
Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished, Quit Disk Utility. Reboot your Mac, launch iTunes and try to burn a CD.
Also, if the above does not help, try this: Quit iTunees. Locate this file: com.apple.iTunes.plist
it's here: /Users/YourName/Library/Preferences. Drag that file from the Preferences folder to your Desktop. Launch iTunes and see if you can successfully burn to a CD. If you can, drag that .plist file to the Trash, empty the Trash, and reboot. It just means your iTunes preference file was corrupted.

  • Burning CDs for purchased music

I purchased songs on iTunes, but the Mac mini machine stops me from burning a CD with that music - something about "authorization" problems.
How do I change that authorization without having to reload everything?

Make sure you are burning the CD as an audio CD (the setting is in the iTunes -> Advanced -> Burning system preference).

  • Help: iTunes won't burn cds for me

I recently got a new laptop-- a Dell Inspiron 700m (Windows XP, Service Pack 2, etc.)-- and when I try to burn a playlist in iTunes, it says that my disc burner or software are not found. I'm able to drag and drop files onto the cd icon in my computer and burn files that way, so I know the cd burner works. And I've been able to burn songs in Windows Media Player. So what's wrong with iTunes? In Properties on my hardrive, the hardware tab recognizes my CD-RW/DVD burner drive: NEC DVD+RW ND 6650A and V386 STEALTH DVD SCSI CdRom Device are listed.
Can anyone help me? Does iTunes just not work with some cd drivers? If not, then what do I do with all my iTunes songs that won't play in Windows Media Player? Are they convertible somehow, even the ones I purchased from off the iTunes music store?
I'm so frustrated! Any help out there is much appreciated.

    Hello TigerJon
I've had what appears to be the same problem as many many more people on this site, but I'm not sure if my issue is the same as yours.
For mine, the problem is Itunes hangs when I try to burn a cd.
I haven't got a complete fix, after 4 months of trying but I've got as far as I have with the help of Toonz and the people at Apple.
Now here is what I have found:
    1. The problem with my Itunes hanging at burning only happens if I have a mixed playlist that I am trying to burn. When I say mixed I mean a mix of purchased tracks and uploaded tracks from my cd collection. Just uploaded tracks work fine.
    2. If I just burn a playlist of purchased tracks it works fine too.
    3. If I don't control alt delete when it hangs, and I wait for up to 2 minutes, the burn evenutally kicks in. Don't do anything. Just leave it and see what happens. I was having to control alt delete to get out of the unresponsive Itunes, but by chance, yesterday, discovered that by leaving it it finally burnt my cd! This was a mixed cd with both purchased tracks and uploaded tracks.
Now, the people at Apple don't yet know why this is doing this. It only happens since version 6 of Itunes. This version (I think) was the first to introduce the "checkingplaylist" stage of burning and they seem to think that it might just be something to do with that.
Anyway, that all helped me. It is still frustrating to have to wait for a couple of minutes, but it's better than nothing. They are still trying to get to the bottom of this for me, too.
    I hope this helps you.
Please give me some feedback if it has, as I'd love to know that all my efforts over the last few months could help others!
    Good luck
    Jane

I updated itunes and now it will not burn CDs for me. I have no other software that would interfere with this. I attempted to uninstall and install GEARS drivers after some google searchs and it did nothing. Might not have done that right though. It says I have no drivers when i run diagnostics. Any help would be appriciated.

That is the key statement out of the whole error message you posted.
It looks like it's having trouble loading the CD/DVD drives.  Try doing a repair install as it notes there, and also check to see what other burning software you have installed on your system as some of it can conflict with iTunes.  You may need to uninstall the other CD Burning software.

  • Burned CDs won't play on portable player

My friend who has a PC has been burning CDs for me of spoken-word MP3s. They play fine on my portable CD player. Recently she gave me a USB drive with a bunch of MP3s for me to burn myself on my new MacBook Pro. The CDs I burned won't play on the CD player (but they will play in iTunes on my computer). I don't understand what's going on...can anyone help out? Thanks.

Yes, if your interest is only in burning CDs and you don't want to keep the music in iTunes, the process is pretty cumbersome. You may want to buy a disc burning application like Toast, which can burn all sorts of formats without your needing to import anything into iTunes.

  • Burning CDs from music in my PC Music Libr

I cannot figure out how to burn CDs for use in my car and home from music that I transferred to my PC Music Library. When I try to select songs from the library in the source view and drop them into the dri've for my PCs CD-burner, it says that I am not allowed to do this? Can anyone please provide some guidance?

MediaSource has a BurnCD module for some of the products. Click the button at bottom right corner of MediaSource to display a destination panel. Click the dropdown header of the destination panel to see whether a BurnCD module is available. If so, you can burn Audio CD and MP3 CD.

  • ITunes fails to burn CDs properly on PowerMac G5

My Dad is trying to burn CDs for use in his car. Unfortunately, whenever he burns a CD in his PowerMac G5, some of the tracks end up full of static or unplayable. This occurs on every CD, even ones that do not have clearly visible scratches. All of his iTunes software is up to date, although he is running Tiger.
I've tried hooking up an external CD burner to see if its the internal burner's fault, but iTunes refuses to recognize and burn cds on the external burner.
    Suggestions?

Have you checked the Preferences to make sure that iTunes is burning an Audio CD, and not a Data/MP3 disc?

  • Unable to burn CDs - unknown error 4280

I've updated to the latest verions of iTunes twice now. I can burn other CDs, but haven't been able to burn CDs for use in the car for two months. I'm really really tired of buying music I can't use. The CD will start to burn, then I get an unexplained error 4280. Or, the CD burns, but when I try to play it, I get an ERR in my CD player. Please help.

I also can not burn CDs with iTunes 5.0.1.4. I have a Dell Dimension 4400 with a NEC NR-7900A, Rev. 1.08 drive. Everytime I try to burn a CD it tries then comes back with the unknown error 4280. I tried adding the lasted firmware from Dell for this drive but it did not help.

  • Unknown Error # 4000 when i try to burn cds

When I insert a blank cd it acts like its copying, and says writing...(the name of the song). Then after about 30 seconds it says canceling disk burn and it comes up that an unknown error # 4000 occured. I've been able to burn cds for along time up until a couple of months ago. Can anyone help me?

I am having the same problem, and it is really freaking me out because over 95% of my music is saved in my iTunes Library, and all my original discs have been resold on Ebay. As you all know...once you save them in iTunes, there is no way to access the music file in the Microsoft Mediaplayer. I have tried purchasing different blank discs only to have to discard them after the attempt. Is there any way to fix this problem. Can I opt to go back to an old version of itunes? It looks like this problem has been going on for quite a few months now. How do we get Apple to address this problem. I need to have access to MY music that I purchased. This is insane!!!

I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. According to the System profiler the CD/DVD drive is a "PioneerDVD-RWDVR-112D." When I compare the information under this heading, the only unusual difference from my iMac is that the G5 reads "Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)." My iMac reads "Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)."
Under the System Preferences the options are set to "Ask what to do" when a blank CD or DVD is inserted. Music CD set to open iTunes, Picture CD set to open iPhoto, Video DVD set to open DVD player.
    Do you have any suggestions?

  • Unable to Burn CDs in iTunes for Windows: (Will not fit, but it should.)

I am attempting to fix an issue with a friend's iTunes for Windows. Although previously this computer using this media was able to burn audio CDs through iTunes, recently, an error has appeared before any burn. When loading the proper amount of time to fit on a CD, iTunes claims:

"Do you want to create multiple Audio CDs with this playlist split across them?"
"This will require more than one CD to complete."

I can't burn songs from Itunes on to a CD. I haven't tried importing a CD or DVD but I'm guessing that won't work either.

  • Error msg at launch says "Registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. ... Please reinstall iTunes."

Each time I launch iTunes (latest version) on Windows 7 (w/ latest system updates) I receive the following error msg:
"Warning! The registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.  This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software.  Please reinstall iTunes."
When I click on "OK" iTunes completes the launch process and the application functions properly.  This error msg appears without fail every time I launch the app.
I have reinstalled iTunes four times and continue to receive this message.  iTunes is set in the system Control Panel as the default program for all functions that iTunes uses.  I never burn CDs or DVDs and have never attempted to do so on this machine.  I have had iTunes on this computer since I bought it last November and never had a problem with it until 2 months ago when this message began popping up.  I did not notice any action I took that caused this, in terms of creating conflicts.
I hope someone can assist me in finding a way to stop this annoying error!  Thanks!
