Burning CDs in sesions

I have an iMac with Leopard 10.5.8 and have suddenly realised I don’t know how to burn sessions on CDs. On my earlier machines, eMac and G3s I always used Toast to burn my disks which had an option for sessions. The software built into the iMac does not appear to have that option and when I go to disk utility I can’t find the way to do it.
Can anyone help - describe the process and how do you make that the default?
Will such disks be readable by others? I know that some PCs used to have trouble with
Mac disks that were in sessions.
thanks

Open Disk Utility (in the Utilities folder in the Applications folder), choose Help > Disk Utility Help, and search for “multisession.” You will find this information:
To burn to a recordable CD so you can burn to it again:
In Disk Utility, create a disk image that contains the files you want to burn to the disc. The files must be from a volume with a Mac OS Extended disk format. To check a volume’s disk format, select the disk in Disk Utility, and look at the information at the bottom of the Disk Utility window.
Select the disk image in the Disk Utility list, and then choose Images > Burn.
Select the “Leave disc appendable” checkbox. If you don’t see this option, click the triangle in the top-right corner.
Insert a blank recordable CD in the optical drive and click Burn.

When I attempt to log on to I tunes I get the following message:
"The registry settings used by the I Tunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing.
This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please re-install I Tunes."
To my knowledge no new software has been installed.  I have tried un-installing and re-installing I Tunes but I still
    get the same message.
Can anyone offer any suggestions?  Do I need to download a new driver?

I can get down as far as step 11 but it shows nothing about upper filters and when I type on "If the Upper Filters entry is missing follow these instructions" nothing happens
Do you mean you can't see the instructions on what to do if there is no UpperFilters entry?
If so, here's the relevant instructions for that step:
On the right side of the Registry Editor window, right-click the UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.
Right-click the empty white space within the right-hand portion of the Registry Editor window. From the shortcut menu, choose New > Multi-String Value.
Name this new value "UpperFilters" (without the quotes). Then, right-click the newly created UpperFilters entry and choose Modify from the shortcut menu.

Finding this Post took some time but I thought it was me talking when I read it. I was having the exact same issue. I have a G3 I've been upgrading like mad, including a Sonnet G4-500 CPU a Maxtor 60gb & 80gb HDs 1gb of RAM a new LaCie Firewire800 PCI card Graphics card etc. the latest was installing Panther 10.3.9 on the new 80gb HD and also swapping out the old CD-ROM and replacing with the (Apple standard) Pioneer DVD-RW DVR-110D combo drive in it's place. got everything up and booted and poof! no burning. Toast worked read/write no problem. iTunes could read and import no problem, but wouldn't burn a CD.
Downloaded "PatchBurn 3.1.3" installed, re-booted and all is OK in burner land again :>)
I wanted to just post my additional thanks to the lead to Patchburner, and I'm going to donate to the cause. It's worth a $20 donation just for my joy of not throwing this computer out the window!!

The answer is in the diagnostic! Go to the Toshiba site (I've been so nice and found the link for you!)
    http://www.toshiba-europe.com/storage/Index.asp?page=PFT&nav=ISH_ARC&model=SDR22 12
Try updating your drives firmware. Click 'Firware Updates' on the right hand side of this page, then follow the instructions and download the update, then install. See if that helps. Its worth updating the firmware anyway :P

Same problems here. I have 2 different computers and tries 2 different CD-Rs and I found out that it has soemthing to do with the new "Protected AAC audio file" format.
Open iTunes, click on music, on the listing side of the screen right click on name, and then click on "kind".
I bet you can't burn anything with the "Protected AAC audio file."
No solutions yet, so just don't buy anything else from iTunes for now.

  • ITunes will no longer rip or burn CDs

When I start iTunes it says "iTunes was not properly installed. If you wish to import or burn CDs, you need to reinstall iTunes."
When I try and reinstall, it says that I have a newer version and it can not complete the install.
I have been burning and importing for over a year, plus buying so I have over 1400 songs.
If i uninstall and start over I'm assuming that I will lose all my songs. don't want that!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

have all the little checkboxes to the left of your songs become unchecked?
if so, Ctrl-click on one of the boxes to do a "global recheck". do you get continuous play again?

I recently upgraded Itunes and now it says i can't burn cds from my Itunes store purchases.
Why is this please? Does this mean that I can no longer keep copies of my Itunes music on CDs to use on another system?
I would appreciate some enlightenment for this please.

The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing . This can be a result of installing other cd burning software. Please re-install itunes.
for some advanced techniques for dealling with that one, see:

but if you'd prefer to try some quicker and dirtier techniques (that don't involve a registry edit), post back and we can run through those as well.

  • Can no longer burn cds or re-install itunes

For some reason I can no longer burn a cd from Itunes. When I try to re-install itunes i get this message: 1628 failed to complete installation. I also get this message everytime Itunes starts : Warning!
The registry settings used by itunes drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing . This can be a result of installing other cd burning software. Please re-install itunes.
I am able however to import with no problems.

  • Can no longer burn CDs in iTunes

I have successfully been burning CDs in iTunes until recently. I can now no longer burn an audio CD. The CDs I am using are the same as before (CD-R, same make etc) and I am trying to burn albums purchased through iTunes. No error message comes up, it just doesn't burn. I have the latest version of iTunes loaded but can't remember when I loaded this. Perhaps my problems have occurred since then? Can anyone help?

  • I bought a used PowerMacPC G5. I can burn and read DVDs, but I can't read or burn CDs. The CDs are not even recognized. After the drive searches for a while, the CD is ejected without any error messages. The CDs work okay on my iMac.

I am running Mac OSX 10.4.11. According to the System profiler the CD/DVD drive is a "PioneerDVD-RWDVR-112D." When I compare the information under this heading, the only unusual difference from my iMac is that the G5 reads "Burn Support: Yes (Unsupported)." My iMac reads "Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipping Drive)."
Under the System Preferences the options are set to "Ask what to do" when a blank CD or DVD is inserted. Music CD set to open iTunes, Picture CD set to open iPhoto, Video DVD set to open DVD player.
    Do you have any suggestions?
    Thanks, Jack

  • ITunes 10.6 won't let me burn CDs

I get a message saying "Registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I reinstalled but still get the same message. My older version of iTunes worked fine, but I tried going back to a restore point and also tried downloading version 8.2 and that didn't help either.
Windows Vista with plenty of hard drive space and memory.

"Registry settings used by the iTunes drivers for importing and burning CDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall iTunes."
I'd start with the following document, with one modification. At step 12 after typing GEARAspiWDM press the Enter/Return key once prior to clicking OK. (Pressing Return adds a carriage return in the field and is important.)
