Burning CDs with more than 5 songs

I'm not sure when this became a problem, but I know this is a new one for me.
I've been trying to burn some CDs from a few of my playlists, and if the playlist contains more than about 5 standard length (3-4 mins) tracks, then iTunes decides that the playlist is too big to fit on one CD. Even if I allow it to burn over multiple CDs it will write 4-5 songs to the first disc, and then stop the burning process when I load a second blank disc.
So, essentially, iTunes is only happy to burn about 200Mb of a standard CD-R.
I run Vista Ultimate 32 bit on a high end machine and I've been fine burning full length CDs since my change to Vista. This is the first time I've tried burning anything since iTunes last auto-updated to ver 7.4.3.1.
Any ideas anyone?
TIA

Any ideas anyone? This is still plaguing me!

  • I have iPod shuffle 2nd gen. 1GB, how can I autofill it with more than 70 songs?

I have iPod shuffle 2nd gen. 1GB, how can I autofill it with more than 70 songs, when I used to be able to get more than l20+ songs?

Is your shuffle full after the Autofill?  Does the playlist you selected as the source have more than 70 songs?
My 2nd gen 1GB shuffle currently has 140 songs on it, almost 100% full using Autofill.  The number of songs depends on two factors.  One is the average length of the songs.  Longer songs take more space.  A 20-minute symphony takes more space than a 4-minute pop song.  The other key factor is the bit rate used for compression.
All of my songs are compressed using the AAC encoder at 256 kbps, which is Apple's current standard and the setting used for downloads from the iTunes Store.  The same songs compressed at 128 kbps AAC takes up half the space.  320 kbps MP3 would use more space per song.  If a lossless format, such as Apple Lossless or AIFF is used to encode, the sound quality is the best possibe, but the file size per song is MUCH higher.
If you think there is problem on the shuffle, you can try doing a Restore in iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings tab.  This will erase the shuffle, re-install its software, and set it to default settings. If there is data corruption on the shuffle's storage that is causing this problem, a Restore should fix it.

  • Itunes counts CDs with more than 1 artist more than 1 CD....why??

for example Talib Kweil, The Beautiful Struggle...the first 3 songs are only him but song 4 is with Faith Evans, song 5 is just him and song 6 has Mary J. on it. So songs 1-3 are grouped as 1 CD, but songs 4, 5, 6 are all grouped singly. So instead of 1 CD it is counted as 4 CDs...***...WHY???

I have the same problem. I am using the latest iTunes (7.2.0.35). However, it is not consistent.
For example, I have a couple soundtracks I re-ripped to mp3 recently and tried to "Add Folder to Library" them. The Beverly Hills Cop 2 soundtrack adds fine. However, the Beverly Hills Cop (1) soundtrack is added as 1 "CD" per song. I have the "Group Compilations as CD" set, but it still doesn't work right.
Even more confusing, when viewed by artist my "Greatest Hits" CD's are listed as CD's, but when viewed by album, they are jumbled up, one "CD" per song, with all the track 1 songs first, alphabetically ordered by artist, then the track 2, etc. It appears that iTunes orders these by "Album", "Track", and "Artist". How I WISH I could specify the order more intelligently (ie. Album, Artist, Track).
On the other hand, the City of Angels soundtrack (among others) is grouped as a CD under the Album sort, but as individual CD's under Artist. Because of this, if I want to look at (some) soundtracks as one CD, I have to do it under the Album sort, but that messes up the 10 or so "Greatest Hits" albums (see above). To see the greatest hits CD's fine, I have to do it under the Artist sort, but then many of the soundtracks are messed up.
It would be nice if iTunes had a "fall back" option of allowing the user to manually mark all the songs from a CD that are added like this (1 "CD" per song) with a "Group as Compilation" option that would "stick" in both the Artist and Album views. Especially with soundtracks. I also have three sets of "Greatest Hits of the 70's/80's" (8-9 CDs each) that combine the worst of both problems in that they show up as 1 CD/song under both the Artist and Album sorts. This did not happen when I imported them in the earlier version of iTunes!
IMO, these greatest hits CDs should be properly ordered regardless of whether viewed by Artist or Album.
When we first started using iTunes (7.1?), we did the "Add Folder to Library" with the albums (mp3 format at 128-256kbps bit rates, depending on the album) I am currently have problems with and iTunes imported them "correctly" with only a couple exceptions out of about 150 CD's. That time I just pointed iTunes to the folder I have all my ripped CD's in and it went to work.
Since that time I have re-ripped all the CD's to 320kbps (nice having an 80GB iPod! ), deleted all the old songs from iTunes (and "synced"/deleted all the songs from the iPod), "upgraded" to the latest version of iTunes (how could I possibly know this would blow up in my face like this?) and then tried adding my "ripped CD's" folder (with about 175 CD's in sub-folders) and ended up with over 750 "CD's" because of this problem. Since then I have deleted all the songs from that try and started adding folders individually, which is when I began to notice more of the particulars to this problem.
Oh, and I have not yet synced the iPod until I get this worked out (UGH! what a mess that would be to use...). Now we don't have our iPod to use (at least until we get this worked out).
Anyway, any help would be appreciated!

  • Importing CDs with more than one disc

I have used iTunes for 6 years yet it still continues to perplex me.
When I import a CD with 2 (or more) discs I add "[Disc 1] and [Disc 2] to the Album Name. e.g. Band On the Run [Disc 1], Band On The Run [Disc 2]. For 6 years when I did this iTunes created separate folders in iTunes Music (now iTunes media). So if I looked I would see within the Paul McCartney & Wings folder a folder for Band On The Run [Disc 1] and another folder for Band On The Run [Disc 2].
That is until recently. Now it will create just one folder and many times the name is not even complete. Within that one folder will be the songs from both discs. I've tried changing the name to include [Disc 1] before I import. I've tried changing the name after I import and it doesn't matter.
If I manually change the folder names within iTunes Media then the songs can't be located when I try to play them and locating them just restores the original folder name.
I wonder if this has something to do with Win 7 and libraries vs. actual files...I'm new to Win 7.
What could have changed to now cause this?

It's nothing to do with Windows 7. iTunes has it's own idea about naming files and folders from information in the tags.
If you have "Keep iTunes organised" in Preferences>>Advanced tab, iTunes will make changes, if you want to change the naming structure you need to uncheck the check box. AS you observe, iTunes will lose the track if you change the name.
AS far as I can see the current track naming arrangement is disk number-track number-track name.
iTunes isn't a very good choice of player if you care a lot about how things are named and arranged. With iTunes it's best to let it do its thing.

  • ITunes not syncing more than 1 song at a time with SLVR

I need some help with Itunes and syncing it to my son's Motorola SLVR L7. It seems that if I try to sync more than 1 song at a time, it fails out saying that it can not find file. I can sync one song at a time, but I have to disconnect and reconnect the phone each time. It would take forever to do 100 songs. Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
I also have 2 iphones, v1 and have not problems with them.
    Thanks for the help.

Yes.  Click the first track, and hold CTRL while you click additional tracks.  Then hit Delete.
(If the tracks you want to highlight are in a row, click the first, hold Shift and click the last.)

  • Cant listen to more than one song in a row with ios4

Ever since i "upgraded" to the new ios4 software i can no longer listen to more than one song in a row without it stopping by itself. if im using apps while playing music it takes me back to the home screen. If someone knows how to fix this that would be nice bc im really frustrated with it and regret getting the software.

But all of a sudden I cannot get my libraray or any playlist ti play more than one song at a time automatically. It just stops after each song.
head into your itunes main library window. are all the little boxes to the left of your tracks unchecked?
is so, hold down Ctrl and click on one of those boxes to recheck all the songs. (this may take a little time.)
do you get continuous play once all the songs are rechecked?

I used to be able to print labels for burned CDs with the cover being the playlist name and the other side the song titles...now the titles print out compacted, overlapping each other and illegible. I thought it was the printer but it happened w/1 other printer as well,  which I used before for this exact thing w/no problem.

Try cleaning the print head with rubbing alcohol wipe, then replace your print head. Keep pushing the Ok.

  • Synching with more than one computer and attempting to delete more than one

Rage is not the word. I have been having the worst time with this thing! UGH! 1st I have more than one computer that has different music on each, but this thing will only sync with 1 and delete anything from another library already added. CRAZY! Second I wanted to rip my cds to my computer without being connected to the internet and itunes won't recong the music added at a later time. I have to be connected to the internet for it to Id the music as I am ripping...CRAZY! Then I was attempting to delete the duplicated music that was not Id and it would only allow me to delete one song at a time...CRAZY! Is there a way to have this thing synch with more than 1 computer? Delete songs in a group and not everything in sight. If so how and if anyone has any remedies for the rest of this craziness I would be most appreciative. I took me forever to even figure how to get to the point to post this. I beginning to feel very sorry I bought this thing. I thought I could rip my cds, and use my work and home computers to synch with it. Please someone tell me I wasn't wrong for making this assumption. Will I be able to sych with other ipods? I bought this thing thinking I could was I wrong. I haven't even attempted that yet. I have an 80 GB ipod

"I have more than one computer that has different music on each, but this thing will only sync with 1 and delete anything from another library already added"
You can't "sync" that is automatically update an iPod from multiple libraries or computers. If you want to connect and use an iPod on more than one computer you need to change the update preference in the iPod Summary tab to "Manually manage music and videos" and click Apply.
    Using iPod with Multiple computers
    Managing content manually on iPod
"I have to be connected to the internet for it to Id the music as I am ripping"
That's correct, iTunes (and other music programs) downloads the information from an online database that contains the details of many thousands of CDs.
"Delete songs in a group and not everything in sight"
Click on the first track you want to delete in a list, hold down the shift key and click on the last one, this highlights everything in between. Press the delete key
"Will I be able to sych with other ipods?"
What do you want to sync with other iPods, iTunes? You can't sync one iPod with another, you can only update from iTunes. If you are adding a second iPod for your own use, just connect the new iPod to your computer and follow the on screen instructions. It will update from your existing library. Depending on the size of your library and the type of iPod you choose you can have it update all songs and playlists, selected playlists only or you can manage it manually. • Can more than one song be selected for slideshow on IPhoto? If so how

Am trying to put together slideshow of granddaughter's birthday party but want to use more than one song as have a lot of photos.

Thank you for sharing your expertise. I have taken that and tried to create a document on how to do this. You will see some different/additional comments. My idea is to share it with everyone once it is finalized. I am about ready to try and walk through all the steps for real but would ask you to read this over before I commit several hours more to this project. Any comments are appreciated. I am concerned about steps 9 through 13. Not sure i have it right. Any comments will be appreciated. Maury
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
How to create a Slideshow on DVD
    with music
    using iPhoto and iTunes
    as input sources
    1. Select, crop, and fix slides needed from the iPhoto library. Put them into a newly named folder. (Not a slide show.)
    2. Import this folder into iMovie using KenBurns ON.
    3. Add any necessary transitions between various segments of resulting movie.
(This should be the finished visual project. Using this write down the exact timing needed for stop/start each segment and the total length of the movie.)
    4. Go to iTunes and select various tunes/songs/music desired.
    5. Go to Amadeus and open a new file. (This single will end up the same length as the visual project).
    6. Open JACK to connect iTunes to Amadeus.
    7. Choose a tune, find the correct snippet of music and adjust to stop/start times from 3 above. Move your snippet to Amadeus. Use cross fade so one snippet will blend into the next one. Load these in the correct order of the slideshow segments.
(Note: Music purchased from the iTunes Store is "protected" in ACC and will no render into another format. This means it cannot be used in this example. A major inconvenience.)
    8. Your result will be string of snippets strung together in proper order and in total making up a single file the same length as your slideshow.
    9. Paste this new music file into the iMovie.
    10, Close iMovie.
    11. Open iDVD, select your theme and leave the menu window open.
    12. Open the iMovie project file (Control-click on it and select Show Package Contents) and navigate to the Shared Movies/iDVD folder.
    13. Drag the .mov file in there into the open iDVD window being sure not to drop it into any menu drop zones.
(You'll know if you are in a drop zone (if there are any) since a text link appears with the same name as the movie file you're dragging.)
(This allows iDVD to do the rendering thus eliminating two renderings on the same file which reduces image quality......)
14 Save the project to Disk Image instead of burning directly to disk.
    15. Open the disk image and launch DVD Player.
This will let you check out the finished project with DVD Player before committing to disk. You'll be able to check out the audio sync, typos etc.
    16. When you are ready to burn to disk use File>Disk Utility.
(See: Burning a disk image file on a CD or DVD in Mac OS X.) The first step, saving to Disk Image is the encoding process and takes the longest time. Often it will seem like it's hung on the audio encoding but let it go on and on, as it often is the longest part of the encoding process.
    17. This should be the finished product.
    18. Snail Mail DVD to adorable grandchild and wait for parents to call saying it made them both cry. (Of course, this implies you are a grandparent.)

About item 16, is there any way to tell the difference between "hung up" and "encoding" while it is going on?

  • Can't gift more than one song at a time

Does anyone know how to gift more than one song at a time (not an album, but non-contiguous songs off one or multiple albums)?
I tried adding them to my wishlist so I could add in several, but I already own several of the songs and you can't add songs you already own.
Of course, this would be resolved if they would just bring back the shopping cart, but for now, I have no idea how to accomplish what should be a very simple task.

It is, indeed, frustrating, and seems short-sighted on Apple's part. Imagine a shop owner saying, "You can buy anything you want for yourself, as many as you like, but if it's a gift, you can only buy one."
I did receive a nice response from Apple confirming that this is, in fact, impossible to accomplish:
    Dear Michael,
Welcome to iTunes Store Customer Support. I am Animesh and I will be assisting you today.
Thank you for your interest in giving an iTunes Store or App Store gift. I understand that you would like to gift multiple songs from different albums. I understand that this is important for you.
Michael, please note that you can buy a song, an album, a video, an audiobook, a TV episode or season, a movie, or an application for anyone who has a valid email address. However, there is no such option to gift multiple songs at a time from different albums. You are required to gift them individually, also the Wishlist feature is for personal usage and not gifting.
I can realize that it must be difficult for you. I have felt the same way in the past when I've found myself in similar circumstances. I have found in situations like this that voicing your opinion is a good way to get the "ball rolling".
Please know that Apple takes the feedback from our customers very seriously. This is the reason for our feedback page - to create a forum where our users can vent, praise or share whatever feelings they have to allow us to meet your needs, and grow as a company.
I took the liberty of submitting your feedback to Apple on your behalf. I would also encourage you to share this link with all of your friends and family who wish to submit the feedback, and have them all submit the same request.
Here is the link for you.

I know sometimes it feels as though submitting feedback will not yield results, so I will also invite you to check out the following link. This is a letter from Apple's CEO addressing customers who purchased an iPhone very early on at $599, then the price went down to $399 shortly after. Mr. Jobs heard our customers and Apple responded accordingly.

I hope that you will consider sharing your thoughts on the feedback page.
Michael, we very much appreciate your concerns, and if there's anything else I can do for you, just respond to this email and let me know. Thank you for supporting the iTunes Store.

  • Setting Equalizer for more than one song at a time

Is there any way to set the equalizer setting for more than one song at a time. For example, if I have a classical music album with 10 songs, can I set the equalizer for "classical" for all 10 songs at once? It's a pain to have to do it for each one individually. I tried using the "shift" key, but to no avail.
    Thanks,
    Joe The Author

highlight all the songs you want then right click and go to get info. in the options tab at the top there is an equalizer preset option.

  • When I import a cd with more than one artist iTunes separates each individual artist - how do I get it to show the album as a whole rather than individual artist?

When I import a cd with more than one artist itunes shows each artist's song separately and won't group the album as a whole - this is incredibly frustrating something that Windows media player doesn't do. Does anyone have a simple cure for this annoyance?

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.

  • How can I select more than one song from the search results?

I want to create playlists based on certain words in the song title. For example, I may want to create a playlist of all my songs with LOVE in the title.
Doing the search is easy, but I can't select more than one song at a time. Is there any way in iTunes 12 for Windows to do this? I found an answer in iTunes for Mac, and it basically says to "un-check "Search Entire Library." " but I don't see that option in iTunes for Windows.
Here is the link to that question: how can i select more than one song from drop down search bar
I hope some Windows user can help me out.

Found the "Search Entire Library" option - click on the small (VERY small for my eyesight) down arrow next to the magnifying glass. Also need to select "Filter by: Songs", and then the songs in the main window show the results.
I'm going to leave this up on the board because 1) in case someone else has this question, and 2) I don't know how to delete it anyway.

  • How can i select more than one song from drop down search bar

the drop down search bar will not allow me to select more than one song
    or
will it?  & i just can't suss out how... maybe you know?
    if so, please tell me~!!!
    thank you

hey i tried that before i posted this question... i tried all of the normal ways one would use to select more than one item...
any click of any kind at all takes you out of the search drop down & into the main itunes window... where you are deposited back into the songs alphabetically... no longer are you seeing the results of the search...
    sigh
at the risk of sounding like one of those people, the "old" itunes did not have this problem...
grrrr... it seems to be that pesky drop down menu~ if only you could see the search results in the main list as opposed to only in the drop down thing
