Burning clips to a DVD

Hi all,
I have a sony HDR-CX7, which I import clips from to my computer.
Is it possible to burn the clips I download directly to a DVD without adding all the menus and staff?
Thanks,
Ziv

Ziv:
Create an iDVD project and add a slideshow. Then add your clips to the slideshow in the order you want them to play. iDVD 08 allows video clips to be added to slideshow and, as a bonus, scales them to the TV Safe area. You can then drag the slideshow into the left hand pane in the Map view, the pane that will auto play whatever is added to it. When the movies finish they will default to the main menu. You can select a plain theme and add a black image file as the background. Then all you would see on the menu after the clips finished is a black screen with the play button, either text or icon.
You can go one step further and have the slideshow looped so it never ends and you have to stop it manually or eject the disk to end. If you stop it manually you'll still have a menu to do to. See Karsten's site on no theme DVDs: http://karsten.schluter.googlepages.com/nothemedvd

  • I get an error code when burning a movie to DVD

I use Premiere Elements 10 in my iMac OS lion vers. 10.7.2
I have 250 Gb free on my hard disc. The movie I try to burn is between 3-4 Gb
When starting to burn my movie to a DVD the following is seen in order on the screen:
    Encoding Menu 2 of 2
    Computing Media
    Burning disks 1 of 1
and then it burns (at the end pretty quickly) to 99% and stay there.
    I get an error code:
    Internal software error: /Users/labuser/premiere/elements/molecules/pre10-bullseye/molecule-17/External/AuthorScri pt/Source/DVDCreator/FormatLib/Ma.....
When I look on the DVD, it looks like nothing has been burnt to the DVD.
    What can be wrong?

I still have trouble with burning my movies to DVD.
    Have tried the following:
Found that I had "-" in many of my file names (clips). I removed them from the file names, but this had no effect.
I moved my entire project folder to a shorter path folder. This had no effect.
I have not managed to find blank DVDs on sale here in Gothenburg, but will try to buy them online.
I have four movies that I want to burn on DVD discs.
Have succeeded in burning two of them.
I've tried to find what distinguishes between the two that are OK and the two that I have not succeeded with. They are all at about the same size, about 27-29 minutes long.
The clips are .m2ts and .mts files.
In one of the movies that are OK, all the clips are .m2ts files. In the second movie (that is OK), most of the clips are .m2ts files, but also there are .mts files.
In the other two movies that are not OK, it's a mix of .m2ts and .mts files.
When I try to burn the two movies which failed, I get the same course as I showed earlier (with an error code).
I must admit that I was wrong when I previously wrote that I could burn all the movies to my hard drive. The ones I can not burn to DVD, I can not burn to my hard drive.

  • Can not upload video clips from mini dvd

When I try to upload video clips from mini DVD recorded on Sony Handycam it stats the files are read only.  I have tried finalized and un-finalized clips.

    Thank you for the reply.
Although what I posted in my post numbered 2 is interesting and useful information in the Premiere Elements ripping of VOBs from DVD-VIDEO, it is not answering your issue regarding a "read only" issue and did not target your specific "read only" message. Sorry about that.
The VOBs are typically read only files on the disc.
I have never run into a "read only" issue with regard to the Premiere Elements 10 Windows 7 64 bit Add Media/"DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive"/Video Importer. For that matter, not with any version of Premiere Elements with this particular feature.
When are you getting this message.
    a. When you click on DVD Camcorder or PC DVD Drive after Get Media
    b. When you click on Get Media in the Video Importer or other
Do you ever get a thumbnail for the VTS_01_1.VOB in the Video Importer? Is your burner drive recognized in the Source field of the Video Importer?
If you open and explore the DVD disc, go to the VTS_01_1.VOB in the VIDEO-TS Folder, go to the VOB's properties, can you remove
the mark next to "read only" and then have the Video Importer route work for you?
Also, if you copy the  VTS_01_1.VOB from the opened DVD disc and paste it to the computer desktop and remove the "read only" marking, can you then import
the VTS_01_1.VOB into Premiere Elements with its Get Media/Files and Folders?

  • Importing clips when building DVD is taking forever

I recently got encore 2.0 as burning my films onto DVD was becoming a serious pain. I have created a 30 minute film with a total size of around 7gB.. Once I finished my project I went to build the DVD, checked the project and set it going.. only to find that 4 hrs later it hadnt got past importing the first clip. The 'data to be written' is 1.60 gB which isn't really that much. The transcoding is slow but eventually finishes, the problem occurs when the program comes to import the clip and the progress bar just keeps on filling up then starting from about half way again. I thought at first it would just take a while, but after reading the other messages 4 hours seems a bit long for a 30 minute film....
Can anyone suggest a reason why its getting stuck on importing the clip?
My computer is relatively new and highish spec.. Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz, 1 Gig of RAM, 18x Sony DVD RW drive.

    Thanks Jeff
Sorry I have not got back to you sooner, I've looked at the project and files and there isn't anything like a DivX codec, all the files were compatible with each as far as I remember, and the encore project only has the two clips and menu's created using encore. I'm not sure about the first question however its been a couple of years since I had that computer but I dont recall anything like that, I may be mistaken though, as I wasn't really aware of the specific components etc then.
I'm logged on as the administrator, its the only user account on my computer. Hope this helps in some way.

  • Am I missing something?  How do I burn an iMovie to DVD

I've spent hours importing and assembling clips in iMovie 08 and got it ready..but for the life of me, I cannot find out how to simply burn this to a DVD to go watch on television with my family. I don't want to export to youtube or my iPhone....Just a traditional DVD please...
    Anyone?

Try iMovie Help, which offers this Help Topic when I search for "iDVD":
*Creating a movie to use with iDVD, iWeb, or other Apple applications*
If you want to use of your iMovie projects in iDVD, iWeb, or another Apple application, you need to render it and send it to the Media Browser. iMovie allows you to render one or more sizes of your a movie, depending on the size of the original media used in the project.
If the larger sizes are not available, the original project media isn’t large enough to render in that size. The largest media size used in the project determines the final movie sizes you can render.
Tiny: Always 176 by 144 pixels.
Mobile: Always 480 by 272 pixels.
Medium: Varies in size from 640 by 480 pixels (standard aspect ratio) to 640 by 360 pixels (widescreen), depending on the size of the media in your project.
Large: Always 960 by 540 pixels (widescreen). No large size is rendered if your original video isn’t high definition (HD).
The dots below each device in the table of sizes indicate which movie sizes are recommended for use with that device. Hovering the pointer over the “i” next to the movie dimensions displays the following information for the rendered movies:
H.264: The standard video compression that's used in the movie.
fps: The frame rate of the movie in frames per second.
Kbps: The maximum rate at which the movie can be streamed over the internet in kilobytes per second.
MB: The size of the movie file in megabytes.
To share your project with other applications through the Media Browser:
Select it in the Project Library, and then choose Share > Media Browser.
Select the size that best matches what you’ll be using the video for. For iDVD, the Large size is best.
    Click Share.
Rendering can take up to several minutes depending on the size of your movie. It will also take longer if you render more than one movie size at once.
Open iDVD or your other application and then look for the rendered movies in the Movies window or iLife Media Browser.
For best results in iDVD, select the largest movie that’s available.
In iMovie, an icon appears next to the project’s name in the Project Library to indicate that the project has been rendered.
If you make further edits to your project in iMovie after you’ve rendered it, the title bar indicates that your project is out of date and needs to be rendered again. The old versions of the movie are deleted and replaced by new ones when you render it again.
If you want to save the previous version of your movie before you edit it, you can do so by exporting it to the Finder.:

  • How do I burn a master data dvd from HD movies uploaded from HD camcorder

I have HD movie clips in my project library.
Now, I would like to burn a master data dvd.
I find I have two options under share.
    1. export movie, creating a clip in i tunes at 960x540 ; 26.8 mb
    or
    2. export using Quicktime, creating a clip at 1920x1080 ; 553 mb
These movie clips are of my new born daughter and I would like to make a master copy that I can make dvd movies and edit any time I feel.
    Thanks.

Use Disk Utility. Drag the .img file to the left sidebar, select it and click the Burn button in the toolbar.
Or, you can click Burn in the toolbar, and then select a disk image from the dialog that appears.

  • Saving Individual Clips onto a DVD R

I am VERY new to the Mac world. From what I understand is that you can archive your videos without putting them into the iMovie Event library (so it doesnt slow down iMovie).
What I want is to have a backup copy of ALL my clips that are currently on iMovie ONTO A DVD R. Can anyone help me out on how to do this? I just want to have the video clips on a DVD R as an extra backup copy.

    Welcome to Macs!
Be sure to take advantage of all the appropriate Apple tutorials for the applications you want to use. You can find them on Apple's Support site. Search for each one, do the tutorial and you will begin to feel more comfortable using your Mac's apps.
Do you mean to have archive DVD disks to retrieve your iMovie videos when you insert the DVDs into your computer, so that you can edit them?
Or, do you mean to have a DVD of videos that will play in a set-top DVD player?
If you just want to store your videos as archives, follow the instructions in Mac Help, under 'Burning your own CDs or DVDs,' and select the topic "Burning a CD or DVD" which will tell you how to burn a back up DVD.
If you have your iMovie already in an iDVD project, but want to archive it to work on it at a later time, ot move it to another computer or drive with all its project media, follow these instructions:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/6723.html
Or, if you are completely finished with editing your iMovie and have put it into an iDVD project and either already burned a DVD disk, or are ready to, create a disk image file of your iDVD project from within iDVD. Just select "Save as disk image file" and the process will begin. It looks like the burn process and will take just as long, but the end result is a disk image file, not a burned DVD disk.
The advantages of the disk image file are that it is usually smaller than the media used in it, it is self-contained, and it can be moved to another drive or computer. It is a backup of an iDVD project, and you can burn DVD disks from it using Disk Utility, even after deleting the original projects, since, unlike iDVD, all the media is actually encoded within the disk image file itself. Saving just the dif will save drive space, since you won't need to save the original iDVD projects and all the media used in them.

  • Copying clips from personal DVDs

    Greetings,
I have a MacBook Pro and am using iDVD 6, or iMovie HD 6.03.
A friend made a couple DVDs of some footage of local mountain scenery. He would like me to splice the two together and burn them to one DVD, with some still photos as an interlude between the video clips.
The clips on one DVD are quicktime files, and I can import those. But, the other DVD has files that end in .BUP and some other strange suffixes.
Do I need some sort of DVD copying software? Is it even possible to do what I'm trying? Do I need to make a video of the DVDs playing on my television to a DV recorder, then import them?
    Any advise?
    Thanks!
    Mark in Boone

my preferred tool is the combo of Apple mpeg2 plugin (29$) + Streamclip (free)
.. buy&install the component, then launch Streamclip... it allows to select scenes (=setting in/out points) from a DVD an convert'em into dv-streams..which can be edited in iMovie...

  • I just finished creating a movie in IMovie and now want to burn it to a DVD and make it loop.  Since I just purchased this IMac it no longer comes with IDVD.  My question is how to burn and loop a dvd without IDVD.  Thanks for any help.

I just finished creating a movie using IMovie and want to burn it to a DVD and loop it.  Since I just purchased this mac it looks like they no longer include IDVD.  Is there something out there to help me do this.  I am new to MAC and any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

There is free open source software called Burn that will burn DVDs. Here is a link.
If you wish to pay for software, there are many, including TOAST TITANIUM from Roxio. Apple's retail copy of iLife 11, and Apple's Compressor.
Of these, I would say that iDVD is known for being able to create very professional looking DVDs with intros, menus, lots of interesting templates.
Toast is much simpler and the menus and templates are more plain.
Compressor is a professional tool that does a lot more than make DVDs. Don't expect much in the way of menus or templates.
Burn, I have never tried, since I have iDVD and Toast for those ocasions when I need to burn a DVD. However, since it is free, I think it is worth a try.
Each software package is a little different, but in general, in iMovie, you can use the SHARE menu to SHARE/MOVIE in Large size. Save the movie to your desktop or someplace you can easily find it. Then drag it into the tool of your choice. You can alsouse SHARE/MEDIA BROWSER/LARGE if you have iDVD or Toast.

  • How do you use disk utility to burn a bootable .iso dvd?

Anybody have a clue on how you use disk utility to burn a .iso bootable dvd disk?
I'm trying to install windows 7 rc into virtual box in OS X 10.5.7 and cannot figure out how to do this. I've already installed the windows 7 beta in virtual box and was able to make a bootable dvd disk with the .iso file on it but have no clue how I did this.
I've been searching the web but most tips are for older version of OS X.
    Thanks to anybody who answers.

It's so easy, You can just burn an .iso file using DVD Creator Std instead of Disk Utility, only 3 steps to finish bur ning your .iso files:

What app do you use to view them?

  • Can someone please tell me a simple but effective method for burning a slideshow to DVD? Now that the connection between iPhoto and iDVD no longer exists, I can't figure out a way to get there with an acceptable quality result.

Can someone please tell me a simple but effective method for burning a slideshow to DVD? Now that the connection between iPhoto and iDVD no longer exists, I can't figure out a way to get there with an acceptable quality result.

Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Software or eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
