Burning copies from DVD
Hi again, as a beginner, I made a tragic mistake and accidently deleted my DVD Studio Pro project!!! I had already burnt a copy to disc which all works fine but what I'm wondering now is how to make more copies of my project from that disc. Is that possible (I presume it is!) and if so, is anyone able to help me with how to do it? Thanks
Put the DVD in the player
Open Up Disk Utilty
Create new image from the DVD in the player (make CD-R/DVD master in the selection)
After it is done mount the image via Disk Utility and Burn from there

I would like to burn copies of a DVD video. How should I copy the DVD onto a file before inserting a blank DVD into my optical drive?
Then you can use a aftermarket program for direct Disc Copy function or use Disk Utility to make a DMG of it then burn/restore that DMG to another disc. Do a google search for "Create DMG image from DVD disc with Disk Utility" and then "Restore DMG image to DVD disc with Disk Utility". I'm sure there will be many sites that have instructions.

Hi All,
I have just finished building and burning the first copy of a slideshow created in DVD SP. I would like to burn a couple of additional copies, is it best to do this thru DVD SP again or in Toast? Does DVD SP go thru the whole building process each time you want to burn the DVD again?
In Toast I assume it is 'video' rather than 'data' and 'DVD-video from VIDEO_TS'
Thanks!

Dual G5 Mac OS X (10.4.5)Toast, Popcorn, and the Finder all do this.
Here's some instructions:

With earlier versions of OS X, I could copy previously burned DVDs by transferring the files (AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS or whatever) from the DVD to the desktop, ejecting the original DVD, inserting a new clean DVD, dragging the files to the new disc, and clicking on BURN. Since switching to SnowLeopard, I follow the same steps but get a disc that is unreadable not only by my iMac but by the several DVD players I own. I get a variety of different error messages, e.g. "Unknown Disc" and "Disc is incompatible" and "Disc is unreadable." I can see that something is burned on the disc. Am I doing something wrong or is there some new procedure to follow?
#from Disk Utility help#
To duplicate a CD or DVD (using Disk Utility):
Insert the CD or DVD disc in the optical drive, and select it in the list at the left.
Choose File > New > “Disk Image from {disc name}.”
Type a name for the disk image.
Choose “compressed” or “read-only” from the Image Format pop-up menu.
Choose “compressed” to create a smaller disk image. Choose “read-only” to create a disk image that’s quicker to create and open.
Click Save.
After Disk Utility creates the disk image, eject the original CD or DVD.
Select the disk image in the list at the left, and choose Images > Burn.
When the Burn Disc dialog appears, insert a blank CD or DVD, and then click Burn.

But what exactly are you trying to convert within iDvd?
Tell us exactly what you did step by step and which formats you are trying to use in iDvd. -

Burning multiply copies of dvd?
I just finished burning my movie in idvd and I was wondering is it possible to make multiply copies of the dvd in idvd? or do I have to make copies from the file in idvd? Thanks!
Yes, you can make multiple DVD's without having to go through the lengthy encoding process for each one.
Save your iDVD project as a Disk Image (an option from the File menu). This will take awhile because all the encoding is done just as if you were burning a DVD. Once it done, and you have a Disk Image, you can burn as many DVD's off of that as you want without having to do the encoding again.
The way you do that is by opening the Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility window on your Mac. Drag your disk image icon into the pane on the left side of the window, if its not already there. Select the disk image icon in the pane, and then hit the Burn button in the upper left. Your Mac will prompt you to insert a DVD-R disk. Insert it and hit Close. After a few seconds, the burn button in the little drop down box will illuminate to blue. Click on it and wait while your DVD is being burned. It should take about 1/10 the time as burning the original disk image, because all of the encoding already has been done. You can burn a few disks this way and then shut down if you want and come back the next day. Open Disk Utility and start burning more disks without having to encode.
There are some nice things about disk images. First, they are stand alone and can be saved or stored independently of any of the other assets or media in your project. Secondly, they take up much less disk space than than the iMovie project itself or an archive of the iDVD project. Thirdly, you can burn at 4x or lower speed, whereas burning directly for iDVD will not let you adjust your burn speed. Fourthly, you can play back your Disk Image using the DVD player on your Mac. (Double click on your Disk Image icon, then click on DVD Player in your Applications folder.) The play back will look exactly like the play back you get from the DVD you burn. -

I use my iphone 5 to record home videos. I have an apple tv but dvd burners dont have a hdmi plug in. Any suggestions on how i can burn videos from iphone 5?
I had a av cord that plugged into the iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 but its not compatible with the 5 connector. Right now i have to email myself the videos in small segments and open and save on the iPad 2 to burn them. Is there an easier way to burn these from my iPhone 5 or through air play on apple tv?
ThanksConnect the phone by USB to the computer, import with image capture, iPhoto or whatever application you use to import movies, drop it into iTunes.

Subject : Slideshow looks bad
Hello guys
I have a project in my Final Cut just about done. I want to add my slideshow as part ofthe project and burn it to DVD. Inmy slideshow, there are some stills from the movie clips and some downloadedfrom the internet but they all look blur when playback and even worse if Iapply Ken Burn to it. Pleasesome one can tell my how to do it right or it can’t be done because thedownload quality and stills from the clip are not suitable or slideshow. Thank you
PSCThank you Ross.
The entire DVD containing Quick Time movies (Final CutExpress project) and slideshow was done in iPhoto. The Final Cut project was rendered prior to export to QT, the slideshow was sent to iDVD withoutrendering. The slideshow with most of the pictures from my still camera incombination with stills from movie clips and some downloaded from the Internet. After burning, the movie playback is perfect but the slideshow is not. The slideshow containing 3 differentkinds of pictures; those from my still camera looks OK; the stills from themovie clips and from the Internet are not. I don’t have much knowledge in this game, but I think NTSCwith frame size 720x480, and the downloaded picture Item Property shows most ofthem are between 400 to 500 x 300 to 600, may be both of them are not suitablefor TV screen while the stills from my still camera looks OK because they are2048x1536. Please enlightenme. Once again, thank you so much,I really appreciate the time you offered.

Is it possible to create DVD Templates with Motion for burning Blue Ray DVDs from Final Cut Pro X?
As far as I know, motion templates can only be used with DVD Studio Pro. FCP X only lets you add a background image to the DVD menu.

When I click on itunes, I get a message that says, "the registry settings used by the itune drivers for importing and burning cds and dvds are missing. this can result from installing other cd burning software. Reinstall itunes." I am a really inexperienced computer user. My computer is a windows 7. Would someone please walk me through this or tell me where to find information on how to do this. Thanking in advance, Laurie
Check out this Apple article -> iTunes for Windows: "Registry settings" warning when opening iTunes
The article will walk you through reinstalling iTunes and then checking for or creating device filters. Did it help? Did you run into any problems? -
I’m going to get the I Mac and since the new I Mac doesn’t have DVD drive on it I was thinking to get the Samsung SE-506AB Slim Portable Blu-ray Writer in order to burn movies from I movie do I need a special software for that since the SE-506ab comes only with windows software.. but I did check and it is compatible with apple. Can you please advise me and or let me know if I’m buying the right stuff or if there is any other blu ray that will work with the I mac as plug and play.
Thank you
HaimThis freezing reminds me of really old Macs, long ago, in the days of the old-school peripherals like SCSI drives, terminators, scanners and the like. If you had a SCSI conflict, like the wrong device ID's or something, you'd freeze up like that. Back in those days you'd call 800-SOS-APPLE (AAPL?) and they'd run you through disconnecting all your extra hardware - Jaz and Zip drives, CD burners, scanners etc and then eliminate them one by one by adding them incrementally and testing for the freeze/bomb dialog.
But, today we have Firewire and none of those ancient issues (no free lifetime tech support either). My iMac's ports are all full, and I only know which devices are connected when I have to remove something for another device. iSight, scanner, card reader, external hard drive, USB soundsticks, etc. You wouldn't happen to have any SCSI devices hooked up, would you?
Out of curiosity, have you tried a different USB/Firewire port for the hard drive? Or run the hardware test DVD that comes with your computer? This weird freezing seems to suggest a problem with the computer, RAM or network more than a device. Bad devices, in my experience, cause kernel panics, not freezing. -
Is it possible to burn a SD DVD correctly from an Encore CS6 Blu-ray project and content?
Hi all,
I shot and edited AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) square pixel video from a Sony NXCAM HXR-NX5U camcorder in Premiere CS6. I then exported the 1920x1080 edited mpeg2 blu-ray m2v file for import into Encore Cs6. Burning a blu-ray disc in Encore CS6 from this mpeg2 bluray m2v file is no problem and look great even with the default settings.
However, I also want to burn a standard DVD using the same HD Encore CS6 project without having to go back to Premiere CS6 and output a 710x480 mpeg-dvd file. I thought i could simply select the dvd format under the build tab in Encore thinking Encore would handle all the necessary conversions to burn a 720x480 DVD but the menus look jaggy and the video does not play smoothly.
Is it possible to burn a standard DVD correctly from an Encore CS6 HD project and content, or is it better to have Premiere CS6 output a 720x480 mpeg-dvd file and create a new standard 720x480 dvd Encore project instead?
Acording to Encore Help, it says "You can build the same project to DVD and Blu‑ray formats no matter which format you select in the New Project or Project Settings dialog box. Encore makes the appropriate adjustments to transcode the elements to the correct format.", but i'm not convinced Encore is doing things correctly.
Thanks.Jim,
I tried a variation on your suggestion.
I exported a new m2v file using the mpeg-dvd from Premiere CS6 as you suggested with "Use Maximum Render Quality" checked to get better scaling from HD to SD. I imported it into my Blu-ray EncoreCS6 project by using the "Replace Asset" option and changed the "Project Settings" authoring Mode to "DVD" leaving the HD menu's "Aspect Ratio" at 16:9. I then built the disc using the "Build" tab DVD format and output settings.
It worked!
The jaggies are gone (except for some motion jaggies) and the DVD plays well.
I suppose I could have done something similar within Encore but I'll test that some other time.
