Burning copies on my idle computer

After I've completed my new DVD I'll need to burn about 20 copies and I'd like to do that on my G4 (which is just sitting there waiting for something to do) so I can continue doing other work on my main computer.
Is there any reason why I shouldn't just use Toast do make the copies?
If it's better for me to burn from DVDSP, what needs to be on my G4? Do I just need to copy the VIDEO_TS folder that's created when I burn my first DVD, or do I need to copy all the assets and the DVDSP file also? Will transfering these files mean that all the links will be messed up and I'll have to re-link everything on my G4 before burning the copies?

As
Ken points out in this article, this method let's you
see what your finished DVD is really, really, REALLY
going to look like before you try burning your first
physical CD. This way the image mounts on your
desktop like the actual final product and you can
view exactly what it's going to look like after all
the encoding, etc.
I'm not sure that is fully correct. By relying on the disc image you are not testing the compatibility of the project on an actual DVD player, nor in fact testing it on several different DVD players. I have found that different players can behave differently with the same DVD.
As Ken points out, this method greatly reduces the
risk of making "coasters" when you find that your
final project isn't exactly what you'd planned.
A great advantage of using Toast is that you can reuse DVD RWs over and over again without the tedium of using Disk Utility's erase function which is so very slow. Toast offers a Quick Delete which takes less than a minute and although you can't burn the DVD again except in Toast, that is not a problem, as Toast does a good job.

  • Burning copies of authored DVD

    Hi,
I recently finished authoring a DVD and put a copy of the video and audio TS in a folder that I pulled from the DVD.
I would like to burn copies of the DVD from this folder. When I do however the DVD doens't perform from its authorship. Can anyone help?
    Thanx,
    John

Place the DVD in the drive
    Put DVD in the drive
Go to Disc Utility and select the DVD in the right side then select New Image-->Image Format CD/DVD Master
Save the image, then you will have the image to mount/burn as mentioned in the Ken Stone site article

  • How to burn copies of home movies

I am trying to burn copies of videos made in school by my daughter, but when I try to add them to iTunes they do not add to library. To work around this I drag them to my desktop, convert to folders and burn the folders into DVD, but the burned DVD has only one file for audio and one for video but does not open automatically and play when I insert it. I know if I could get them into iTunes I could burn copies, but do not know how to do this and if I cannot get them into iTunes is there a way to burn them and have them open automatically and play on the DVD player when inserted. Would very much appreciate help.

Open Preferences > CDs&DVDs and make sure you have selected open DVD player when a video DVD is inserted. I don't know what the exact criteria for a "video DVD" happens to be. Do you have a VIDEO_TS folder at the top level of the disc? Sorry, but I don't have any home movie or DVDs lying around to experiment.

Reset the SMC, as per > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Then zap the PRAM/NVRAM as per > About NVRAM and PRAM
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Turn on the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes, the lowest possible Burn speed will be a step in the direction of compatibility.
As for the Quality setting, Robert Johnson has done tests on various versions of PE and has recommend a setting of about 7.8 (IIRC). Unlike Encore, where one has many more choices, PE limits one to a Quality setting of 8. This is about equivilent to the recommend 7MB/s in Encore. Robert found that just below the 8 max. actually yielded slightly better results, than did the full 8, on his tests.
The three things that help to insure the greatest compatibility with set-top players are, and in pretty much this order:
1.) Quality media - Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Falcon (US only)
2.) Burn speed (slower is better. It might take a few minutes more, but if it works, you don't have returns or have to do it again.)
    3.) Bit-rate around 7MB/sec
Remember - no set-top player HAS to play any Burned DVD. Most do, but some just do not - only replicated, pressed discs. Also, some player are still sensitive to the -R and +R media types. This is less a problem with newer units, however it still could be an issue with many older ones.
Personally, I test a "master" on four different players, plus my computer, before I Burn a batch, or ship out any. One unit is a very high-end Marantz, another is a mid-level Marantz, one is an RCA "el cheapo" and the other is an older Pioneer. I figure if the disc plays everywhere, there is a good chance that it will play for the client - though there are still no guarantees.
    Good luck,

  • How to burn from a dvd to computer

I just want to know the steps to burn a dvd onto the computer.  I don't think I am doing it correctly.

You need a 3rd party "DVD ripper" burn DVDs onto a Mac.  Is that what you are using to burn your DVD onto your computer?  If so, read the instruction (Help) manual.
DVD ripping is kind of a sticky topic in these forums due to legal stuff (if you know what I mean).  Therefore, the only thing I can do is to suggest that do a Google search for DVD rippers, check over on MacUpdate and CNET Downloads if you are not using a ripper.
Three very simple to use rippers are Aimersoft DVD Ripper PPC, Mac DVDRipper and MacTheRipper.

  • Most Efficent way to burn copies

i am making lots of copies of amovie i made, i was wondering if its faster to burn copies directly from dvd studio pro, or to make a disk image and burn copies with the disk utility? Or if there is some other way to burn copies that is more efficent

The towers have a chip in them that controls the functions. You have a little lcd display in the front and just a couple of buttons to scroll thru the menus. I pretty much just load my master, 7 copies and hit "copy" and walk away. It's quiet and doesn't create any appreciable heat. I have 7 Panasonic Dual layer 16X burners in mine. Never done a dual layer but nice to have. You could probably find the parts on ebay or the web and build your own, but it's nice when someone does it for you, you pull it out of the box and go. As far as a seller, I can't remember who I bought it from. As with all ebay transactions, look at the feedback and stay away from people with tons of negatives. And as these are generally new, check to see if you get some kind of warranty. There are lots of different configurations available, at different price points. Using 8X media, mine will burn a 2 hour dvd copy(or 7) in about 10-12 minutes.

  • HT1473 I have a ton of songs in my itunes that were burned from cd.  My computer died so I'm using another computer.  The new computer will show all my purchased songs from Itunes, but none of the ones I previously burned from cd

I burned a ton of songs from CD to Itunes and they showed up fine in my library.  I bought a new Ipod at the same time my computer died so I'm now using a totally different computer.  I logged in to my Itunes from this computer and can see every song purchased from Itunes.  What I no longer see are the ones burned from cd.

Does this iPod have the contents of your library? If so see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device. Otherwise, depending on the nature of the failure, you may be able to extract the hard drive and recover the media from it. Or you will have to rip your CDs again.
If you'd like access to all your media on any device/computer in future you might consider purchasing a subscription to iTunes Match though personally I just maintain my own backup of my library.

  • Burning Copies

    Okay,
So I've made a iDVD from iMovies, burned it to disc. Initial encoding takes a few hours, and maybe 10 minutes to actually burn. Then it asks me to burn another copy. Said, yes, inserted blank DVD. Took only 10 minutes for it to burn a second copy.
Saved the file and closed the program.
The question is...Can I go back into the file and burn another copy and only take 10 minutes? Or do I need to encode everything all over again for a few hours to burn a third copy?
Didn't know people loved the movie, so they want more?
What is the quickest way to burn extra copies?
    Thanks,
    Adam

Does this help? (it's directly from the help menu in iDVD6).
Setting movies and slideshows to play again
You can set slideshows and movies to repeat continuously, or "loop." When a slideshow finishes, it starts over with the first slide of the slideshow. When a movie finishes, it begins again at the first scene of the movie. If the slideshow or movie includes audio, the audio also loops. Looping autoplay movies can be useful for creating self-playing presentations, such as in kiosks.
In map view you can see at a glance which items are set to loop. A circular arrow symbol appears in the bottom-right corner of the icon (shown below).
Here are some ways to turn looping on or off:
Click the movie or slideshow button on the DVD menu or the icon in map view to select it, then choose Advanced > Loop Movie or Loop Slideshow.
When looping is turned on, a checkmark appears next to the command in the menu. To turn off looping, select it again to remove the checkmark.
Double-click a slideshow to open the slideshow editor and click Settings. Select the "Loop slideshow" checkbox.
Click Menu to open the Menu pane and move the Loop Duration slider to zero to turn looping off for a background movie.
When you're viewing the DVD, press the Menu button on the DVD remote control to exit from looping.

  • Burning copies from DVD

Hi again, as a beginner, I made a tragic mistake and accidently deleted my DVD Studio Pro project!!! I had already burnt a copy to disc which all works fine but what I'm wondering now is how to make more copies of my project from that disc. Is that possible (I presume it is!) and if so, is anyone able to help me with how to do it? Thanks

Put the DVD in the player
    Open Up Disk Utilty
Create new image from the DVD in the player (make CD-R/DVD master in the selection)
After it is done mount the image via Disk Utility and Burn from there

  • Burning Copies of DVD's

    Hi All,
I have just finished building and burning the first copy of a slideshow created in DVD SP. I would like to burn a couple of additional copies, is it best to do this thru DVD SP again or in Toast? Does DVD SP go thru the whole building process each time you want to burn the DVD again?
In Toast I assume it is 'video' rather than 'data' and 'DVD-video from VIDEO_TS'
    Thanks!

  • Burned CDs only play on computer

I imported a cd,k and burned it to a blank cd, but that one won't play on any cd player, only on the computer! Is this because I foolishly upgraded to itunes 9?

  • Burned DVD is rejected by computer

    Hello,
I have searched for a couple of hours now and cannot seem to find an answer to my question. I just burned a DVD using iDVD. The process finished, however, when I re-insert the dvd into my drive it spins up, then ejects the DVD without any warning or error message. The dvd will play in any DVD player other than a computer. This does not make any sense. I have tried twice now. I'm getting tired of wasting dvd's and 4-hours worth of rendering time. Any suggestions? (by the way, I'm a client support administrator so I know basic/advanced troubleshooting...so yes I have rebooted ).

I have the same problem and there is no solution as far as I know. The issue is with G5's not being able to play the DVD disk that it created. However, you will find that your G5-created DVD disk will play on G4's and on commercial DVD players. Likewise, commercially made DVD disks, like rental movies, and also DVD's created on a G4 will play on your G5. At least they do on my G5.
If you find a solution, please be sure to post it, as there are many others with this problem.
