Burning disc transforms NEF files into JPG

Using the Finder method to burn a disc, I find that NEF files (from Nikon D300 camera) become JPG files. Or, at least, they have a .JPG extension (yes, capitalized, as opposed to lower case for jpg files), but they seem to be about the same size as the original NEF files (i.e. they do not appear to have been compressed. How do I burn a disc and keep them as .NEF files in the burned disc?
This is the procedure I used:
1. Insert a blank DVD disc into the computer drive.
2. Click OK in dialogue box that says "Open Finder."
3. Select the NEF photos in iPhoto and drag them to the DVD icon on the desktop.
4. Open the DVD icon and click on "Burn" icon.
5. Click OK in dialogue box that says burned disc will be compatible with Windows and Mac.
Am I doing something wrong? TIA!!

Try this workflow:
1 - in iPhoto select the photos you want to burn.
2 - go to the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu.
3 - select Format = Original
4 - select Title = whatever you want, the original file name or some other name.
5 - export to a folder on the Desktop.
6 - burn that folder which will contain the original RAW files to disk in the Finder.
That should get the RAW files on the disk as you want.

  • Importing Nikon RAW .nef files into iPhoto

I am using iPhoto 8.0.3. I can import RAW .nef files from my D90 without a problem. I also scan my older slides/negs using a CoolScan V and saving those files as RAW .nef format. Problem is that iPhoto does not recognize the .nef files that are scanned. Anybody have some thoughts? I can convert the scanned files into jpg using Nikon View and then bring them in to iPhoto, but would prefer to leave them in the RAW format so I don't have replicant files all over the place.

iPhoto will only work with RAW files on this list

Unfortunately there are no Scanners on the list.

  • How do I import iPhoto raw (NEF) files into Lightroom 3.6?

how do I import iPhoto raw (NEF) files into Lightroom 3.6?

You will need an application that can convert those pcd files into one that iPhoto supports, mainly jpeg. GraphicConverter is supposed to support many, many formats and might just support the pcd. If so you could use it to convert them to jpegs.
There's an automator workflow that I've put into an application that will take many image files and convert them into jpeg with the RGB color profile. I've never tried it on the Kodak files but you can give it a try. It's called +*Convert to JPG and Embed sRGB profile*+ and can be downloaded from Toad's Cellar. Make a copy of a couple of files and see if it will work. If so then you can batch convert folders of the files at once by dragging them onto the application.
I believe GC can do batch conversions but am not familiar with the application.

  • How to export the same mb size of my cr2 files into jpg or tiff files in Lr?

How to export the same mb size of my cr2 files into jpg or tiff files in Lr?
Let's say my file size is 22mb, when i export the file to tiff or jpg, although Iam careful with the settings- file size, dimension, resolution, I can't manioukate how I want it.
With jpg I tried everything, no matter what i do or change in files size or resoltion it remains the same size- 7mb as opposed to 22..
    Please advise,
    Best wishes,
    T

I would noramlly opt for a tiff file, sending such a high res through the nest a nightmare
This is probably just an improper use of terminology, but the resolution of a JPG, DNG and TIF should all be the same.
The files differ in size, not resolution and not number of pixels.
Jpg is not that bad, but its a pitty they have to be edited under a jpg format..
Your raws are edited as raw. There is no loss of quality in the editing process. The files are then exported as JPG, which will cause a loss of quality. For just about any use, the loss of quality in the image when you export a JPG at quality level 12 is NOT noticeable. For many uses, exporting a JPG at a quality level of 8 will not be noticeable either, unless you intend to print the photo at a very large size. As twenty_one (not his real name) said, "Jpeg compression is fantastically effective".

  • Photoshop cc is turning my raw files into jpg after editing

photoshop is turning my raw files into jpg after editing with out flatten the layers instead of psd files. when I go to save they are jpg. This started 2 days ago - no problems before that

How are you doing the save?  Just choosing File - Save?
Photoshop remembers the last "master file" format you saved something in.  If the current document is capable of being saved in that format, it will default to that format for the next save.
What happens if you do the following:
    1.  Open your raw file, and edit it.
    2.  File - Save As, and in the Save as type field choose Photoshop (*.PSD;*.PDD).
    3.  Complete the save operation.
I'm betting that will result in your having saved a PSD format file.
In summary, change your habit to use File - Save As to save your master document and you can't go wrong.

  • I am having trouble exporting InDesign CS6 files into JPGs or PNGs

I am not able to complete the export of an InDesign file into JPG or PNG, it has worked fine for me in all other versions except for this one, I keep trying, it takes me all the way to the output setup dialog box and it just doesn't do anything after that. I have looked into all the folders I have to see if by any chance it was saved in a different location but basically there's no trace of anything created.
    Thanks

  • Importing .NEF files into Lightroom 4.4

    Hi All,
I am running lightroom 4.4 and camera raw 7.4.  I can't seem to import a .NEF file.  I normally shoot Canon and have no problems with the .CR2 file.  The error message I get is that "The file is not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom. (1)"    When I check for updates, it says that my software is up-to-date.  My guess is that I need to update camera raw but I don't if I can do that wit the version of lightroom that I have.  So my questions are the following:  Is there a way for me to update the camera raw version without having to upgrade from LR 4.4?  Is there another way that I can get this to work?
    Thanks
    Wesley

NOt sure which one is troubeling you.
As soon as you convert from RAW to some other file system, things are locked, so you only have the possibility to create a preset in lightroom that fits what you're expectiong to receive.
In many cases it makes more sense to shoot in jpg and get the Picture Style right in the camera, you have many options in the D810, as a D800-user I know.
The reason I upgraded to LR5 was also the change to the new D800.
You will have a better and faster workflow in LR5 with the big files and some better possibilities than in LR4 ...
The upgrade to LR5 is not as expensive as your D810 was
Many people are selling their key for less than 50$ ... I think this is quite fair and saves you a lot of time(=money) as you will be stuck in the DNG-workaroung in future for every RAW you shoot.
